Here is a good spot to start (http://lore.layonara.com/StartHere)... it may also help to look at some character bio's that have already been approved (http://forums.layonara.com/recent-approvals/) to get an idea of what they are looking for. :)
 
Once your character is approved and your in game feel free to to send tells if you have any questions or just want someone to show you around a bit. Most are more than happy to help out .  

A big storm just hit one of the major area's. So be ready for things to be a little crazy. :)
