I am just curious......
Since the releaase of NWN some 7 years now, there has many upon many, add-ons, new tilesets, scripts, tweeks, custom HAK and TLK files created amonst many others that has teansformed NWN to IMO the single best "replay" game ever created.. BUT, why has there been no new character "voices" created? IMO the "voice set" is a very big thing when trying to portray your character. Sure, I have seen mods have added voice sets from "monsters" and other creatures in NWN, but not much for voices. I think there was a few extra ones added back in SOU and HOD but not many.
Im thinking it has something to actually do with a persons voice being recorded and all, but it just seems odd that in 7 years of expansion packs, add-ons, updates, etc... there would be more voices to choose from.
Just me "voicing" my thoughts..
really would like to know others thoughts on this?

I think the reason is because NWN is not really capable of making use of new voice sets like it is capable of using haks and such. Now, there is a file that lets you use the native voice sets that NPCs in the NWN game itself use, but new voice sets tend to mean over writing an existing set in place of the new set.
But then again I've never tried to MAKE a new voice set, and it would prolly require some software I don't have to do, anyway. So.... I doono!

sorry shiff, but that's not quite right.
NWN is very much capable of using new voice sets, but then you have to make sure that every one has the same voice set else they will hear nothing. I worked with a coding team about two years and a half ago as they were lunching their own world. And one of the things we were doing beside me making music, was to redo complete sets of voice overs, both for npcs and for pcs. It was a huge undertaking and needed some extensive knowledge of the engine itself as there was a need to recode some of the engine usage in regards to sound. Since I was not one of the coders (quite frankly i understand the codes, but can't write or think in it) I was not part of the team that implemented what was done.
You can of course go the easy route and just make your own voice set and override an existing one. But once again, you'll have to distribute the voice over to every one, and you'll have to make sure to use a voice set that makes actual sense, else you might end up with a fat dwarf speaking pixie.

thanks ShiffDrgnhrt for the reply. I know its not an easy task to implement into game, I just find it odd i guess that this is really the only thing that hasnt changed much over the years..
So adding NPC voice sets, you have to overwrite existing other files?...Im not a scripter so I have no idea.. It did add a different touch to character creation which was neat.

Place these two files downloadable from here (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Portraits.Detail&id=5031) to your NWN's override directory.
The directory is under the folder you chose to install NWN into.
The default would be C:\\Bioware\\NeverwinterNights or something equal

What chazzler is proposing to you will unlock the voice sets of the npcs use in the single campaigns. Some of them are not complete though, but it's still fun to have more choice.
