Title: Which Classes are LEAST represented in Layonara?
Post by: Phlynn on January 02, 2010, 01:43:37 AM
I'm doing A LOT of reading and thinking and pondering, and well, I got to wondering, what classes are OVER exposed in-game, that is, which are just so abundant that they're tripping all over themselves?  And I guess my follow up question would be, what classes are UNDER used?

I'm not saying that I'll make my character choice selection based exclusively on this factor, but I've generally been of the opinion that its better to be unique than to just be a random face in the crowd...

...unless, of course, I'm picking pockets...and then I WANT to be just a face in the crowd. :D

Thanks in advance for any replies,
~Phlynn

My hip reaction.

Almost all classes have multi-classed so it is hard to say exactly.

A lot of people like to multi-class with rogue for all the benefits, such as sneak attack and evasion.

Rangers are used to multi-class for Arcane Archers and ambidexterity.

Fighter class for all the feats and then to Weapon Master. They are a dime a dozen.

Fighting clerics and bards are fairly common.

 Underused - Paladins

Overused - Wizards, Sorcerers and Weapon Masters.

I recommend you view the server status  (http://forums.layonara.com/nwn-server-status)when there are a lot of people logged on (about 20-30 people) to get a good idea of what is going on.

Under used : Pure classes , with the exception of wiz/sorc/cleric.

Abundant : multi-classed and wiz/sorc/cleric.

Look for any post on differences between classes and you'll find out why things are as they are .

Mistone Alliance Scout. I have never seen one.

I personally would love to see someone make an Orc Bard. That combo is definitely not well represented.

Weapon Masters are a dime a dozen? Really? Seems like I'm the only one on when I am on. Maybe 1 or 2 more...sorry twidget. Just not agreeing with you there. :\

Not many of us pure Dwarven bards about as its a bit hard as a bard when your key stat is Cha and you lose it as a dwarf at the start.

Not sure ive even seen another. there must be a few out there though

I have to agree with twidget here, it seems to be that sometimes a bit like the rogue class when some people will just ask for levels to multiclass in it for the benefits (ie sneak attack).
There are also tons of fighters, wizards and fighter/rogues... blah blah blah.
Also there are a lot of multiclass rangers (mainly ranger/rogue...), the character I play is one in a handful of the pure rangers out there, I've only known a few others, though I sort of prefer that theres less of them because I feel more unique then.
Pure Bards are always rare and never seen a red dragon disciple I dont think.

Oh and Masterjack, I think if I remember correctly that Mixafix has a character with Mistone Alliance Scout levels? Correct me if I'm wrong :)
But you're right that is one of the classes you almost never see.

I don't know what quite constitutes "a dime a dozen", but these are the names of the Weapon Masters that I recollect as being "current":

[INDENT][LORE]Kyle Pandorn[/LORE]
[LORE]Davidoff Dumas[/LORE]
[LORE]Portlie Dumas[/LORE]
[LORE]Sasha Tomyris[/LORE]
[LORE]Tyra Dragonheart[/LORE]
[LORE]Kurn Blackwater[/LORE]
[LORE]Shiff Dragonheart[/LORE]
[LORE]Steel[/LORE]
[LORE]Fehriel Cailomel[/LORE]
[LORE]Rottie[/LORE]
[LORE]Kromlek StormAxe[/LORE]
[LORE]Darktanyin Dumas[/LORE]
[LORE]G'ork[/LORE]
[LORE]Lillian Dartforth[/LORE]
[LORE]Annwyl Cadi[/LORE]
[LORE]Bartholomew Fallowfield[/LORE]
[LORE]Justice[/LORE]
[LORE]Jehoram[/LORE]
[LORE]Zakariem[/LORE]
[LORE]Shamur Reatur[/LORE]
[LORE]Vrebel[/LORE][/INDENT]

(If I am correct)  honorable mention to [LORE]Barion Firesteed[/LORE] as being the most proficient (highest level) Weapon Master ever, with Sasha Tomyris being the current highest ranking Weapon Master.

Underused: Only what Kenderfriend said and maybe some of the harder prc's to get.

Abundent: Fighter, weapon master, wizard/sorcerer, rogue (multiclassing with non-prc class), and shadowdancer is now becoming quite popular because CDQ's aren't required anymore.

I appreciate all the input, and hope I didn't ruffle any feathers with this.

I've decided on a Pure Paladin...that should cover at least two areas of underuse by my count. ;)

Thanks again, folks.

Welcome to the Ranks of the paladins, Phlynn.  the Toranites will welcome you with open arms if you choose to play a paladin of Toran.  (if not, we still think Rofireinites are... eh... they're okay ;)  and Vorax, well, they're still our battle brothers.)

It's a good solid class, and always a challenge for rp.  Well worth it though.

Surprisingly enough, I've chosen Toran as Falkwyn's (my character) Diety of choice. 8)

Not really all that surprising ;)  However, if you need any help with anything please do not hesitate to ask me or Lance Stargazer.  Also, once your character is approved be sure to request for membership into the Toran forum and we'll get you approved asap.  Look forward to travelling with you.  Toranites are a good bunch of people and a very good group of rpers.

And what... Chaynce can't help instruct him in the ways of Toran?

Hmmm?

Oh and welcome!
