History
Nestled far and deep within a Forest in Layonara, existed a small Wood Elf village of about 40 clan members. The village thrived as being a waypoint for hunters to bring in their hides and meat, as well as some very good trackers for hire also resided there. Some of the village members would come and stay for a few decades or so and then eventually move on. All of the wood elves that became part of the village would inherit clan names and did not go buy their wood Elven birth names. A few members that did stay for a while eventually became known as the clan's "High Elders". The High Elders consisted of Druids who practiced the teachings and lore of Folian S'pae, their God who is known as the Prince of Wolves and the protector of their people's forests.
The village was also a garrison for a ranger company that resided and provided protection to the villagers. The ranger company was led by General "RedOak" A'nadivian. He was a strong and powerful looking Wood Elf with many a scar. His military instructions and the teachings in forest war strategies to the lesser rangers under his command has proven to save the village from Orc raids more than a once. There has even been confirmed talk of the general being so skilled with his bow that he could accurately make critical arrow shots out over a distance of 100 yards. There was a overall sense of peace around the village most of the time due to the calming aura that the High Elders possessed. The village was formed back some 300 years ago when the world was in Chaos and turmoil due to Diamonair line being overthrown. With the world thrown into anarchy a group of about 15 or so wood elves founded the village for safety from the clashes that have broke out nearby. The High Elders and the ranger company brought an inner peace to the village and everyone was at one with the forest and felt safe. One High Elders tells of many skirmishes during the years. Roaming Orc parties would periodically stumble their way into our forest and get to close to the village so that we had to initiate the battle call and drive the beasts back out of the forest. There is one battle that the High Elders speak quite frequently of...
"It was back in 1210 on a cold Autumn Dark night. A small Orc party was heading our way. Our scouts saw them coming even before they entered the forest. We sent our rangers out to intercept them before they discovered our village. One of the High Elders had a daughter, she was a young elf that had been taught the ways of nature and the animals that occupy it. With the advancing Orc horde marching their way towards our village, she vanished into the woods and was seen later riding a Wolf towards the approaching Orcs. She initiated the attack from a medow just outside our village border and her and the ranger company drove the Orc horde from the forest and the village. From that day on, she was known in the village as "Meadow's Edge". Years went by with mostly minor conflicts, but that might just be that fact that the village was so hard to find..One old villager said "Even if yer standin in de middle...ye wont even know it".
During the year of 1295 a village festival to celebrate the "Twilight Watch" General A'nadivian and his officers were enjoying the festivities, drinking, music and dancing when the High Elders and their families walked in from the night woods. The general was immediately taken by the sight of a young and beautiful woman walking in with them. His eyes were drawn to the robe she was wearing...it looked like it was made of tree bark, but had a "soft" appearance to it. The general leans over to his officer and says "Who is that vision of beauty over there", the officer replies, whispering to the general, "Sir, that's the one they call "Meadow's Edge". The general finishes his drink and stands up and walks over this lady of the forest. "Good evening my lady" *bows*, "Good evening kind Sir" ..She replies. "Care for a stroll in the night woods?" ..the general asks gingerly..."But of course general, that would be very nice" , she answers. They both walk off into the darkness together. A few decades go by and General A'nadivian and "Meadow's Edge" are seen together quite frequently and in Spring Blossum, World Tree the 17th of 1330 right before the return of Sinthar Bloodstone, they were married in a forest clearing with the whole village and the High Elder's and their animal friends were all in attendance. They would have a son in the year 1345 and the boy was named "Shadowleaf". He was given this Clan name by his parents, roughly translated to; "Shadow" for concealment and "leaf" for cover.
Shadowleaf's younger years consisted of mainly training by his parents. Mom would teach him the ways of the forests, how to befriend animals and the inner magic that some woods possess, and how to use his inner senses and be able to use some items that have been infused with magic. The general had put a bow in Shadowleaf's hands ever since he could first walk. Taught him to "aim small, miss small" while selecting his arrow shot placements, how to anticipate attacks and use his Elven reflexes and "not be there" when the attack is unleashed. When in battle, how to wait until your foe is distracted by another and make an attack when the foe is not looking. The general also knew the importance of camouflage and taught him how to use the plants and trees to stay hidden at all times weather in battle or tracking an animal, how to use and disable traps for animal trapping. Also taught the young lad to track animals and use the forest trees as a navigation tool.
One day, the general took the boy out for his first hunt. The prey they were after was a big cat that was lurking the forest edges. The general picked up the cat's tracks and proceeded in the path of its direction. The general sent his son to an old downed tree to set an ambush. As the general tried to circle around the cat, the cat heard him and came running back through the forest right towards Shadowleaf. Before Shadowleaf could knock and arrow, the cat pounced on him and got a few swats with his paws on him before an arrow from out of nowhere pierced the cat's shoulder and the cat fell over dead. The general ran to his son and grabbed him...*gasping for air* "Son are you ok?" ..., Shadowleaf grimacing in pain replies "Yes Father...its just a bad scratch". From that day forward, Shadowleaf goes by the way of "expect the unexpected" as his motto.
One damp, cold and foggy morning in the Forest, Shadowleaf finds himself foraging for berries, roots, and if lucks on his side, a nice rabbit for breakfast. As he scans the ground for edibles, the silence of the forest is shattered from the roar of an Orc attack! He secures his pack and begins to run at full tilt back to the village filled with adrenaline and anticipation. The closer he gets back to the village, the more agony he can hear coming from his fellow villagers at the hands of the Orc's axes. Upon reaching the borderlands of the village, his eyes are filled with chaos and terror. Orcs are sacking and killing all living things in their path. Shadowleaf realizing he is out in an open field, darts for the closest wood's edge and takes cover behind a tree. He knocks and arrow and flies it into an advancing Orc, reaches for another arrow, knocks it and sends it across the field to an Orc about to kill a female villager. As he goes for yet another arrow....he hears his name being called from back inside the woods. "Shadowleaf...Over here lad!", he instantly knew it was the voice of his Father. Shadowleaf runs towards the sound and sees him near a tree. He embraces him with both arms. He catches his breath and says to the General "Father....How...but how?" . The General replies, "Them beasts staged a diversion for our scouts to investigate and it created a gap in our defensive line, they stormed thru the gap and overwhelmed our forces". Shadowleaf with a look of confusion on his face says "lets regroup and fight back". The General *sighs* and says "Im sorry to say that it's too late for that now my son, orcs are already in the village and many more are right behind them...the village is lost. You must leave here immediately for your own safety" . Shadowleaf could not believe what he was hearing. He looked up at his Father trying to hold his tears back and says "Mom...what about....." . The general cuts of his son and replies "I saw your mother called to her wolf companion and rode into the forest, I'm praying that she was able to make it out in time" . "Now go my son, take this sack of coin" *hands him a small sack of coins* and use your skills that your mom and I have taught you and prosper in your life. Here is what you need to do. Travel to the edge of our Forest, it will be about 3-4 days travel by foot so be careful and stay out of sight. Once you reach the edge of the forest, you will be standing on the coastline. Head south from there and stay on the coast. About a day's travel you will see a small seaport. That seaport is run by Elves who and who make their lives at sea, they will help you for some coin. Give them the sack of coin and tell them who you are. They know of me and owe me a favor from a long time ago. They will know what continent to take you to so dont worry. Once you have arrived at your destination, seek out forest lands and our people, they will take you in as one of their own where you can live your life in peace. I love you my Son!, NOW GO!". Shadowleaf leaves his Father and heads through the forest, looking back over his shoulder ever so often to see the smoke plumes roaring towards the heavens from the fires in the village he used to call home.
After a few weeks sailing the rough seas, Shadowleaf hears "Port Hempstead...off thee port bow" from one of the Sea Elves. As the ship approaches the Port, Shadowleaf is taken by the sight of high walls and the many ships in port with activity. It is then at this point, Shadowleaf wonders what lies ahead of him behind those towering walls.....

Dead Eye, Summer Home 4, 1458
....Here I sit under the overhanging Willow trees I like to come to for some peace and quiet....My mind is still trying to gather all of what my eyes have seen and what my ears have heard... Father and Mother told me that I should someday start keeping a personal journal of my life's journeys. They said that the journal will better aid me in keeping track of my Ranger skills and as a Wood Elf,.....so I guess the time has come for me to document some of my adventures in these lands, and my individual training exercises that my Father started me on when I was a little, and I will not let him down by not following his wishes for me to become a master Ranger and protect the flora and fauna that live in and around the Forests.
Since my landing on Mistone, my life has been one full of experiences, rewards and even some hardships. I came here not knowing where or what "here" was? When the Sea Elves brought me here, I had no idea this continent even existed...? The first steps off the ship and onto land was a great relief from being at sea for weeks on end without even the sight of land. I have never been inside a city before..and it made me feel on a little on edge. Father and Mother told me stories of these "cities" that had many different kinds of folk and where trade and commerce were abundant. Feeling a little out of place, I kept to myself and began to look around the Port. The buildings and structures around Port seemed to be constructed mostly of stone which made me feel just a little better knowing that the trees in the surrounding forests were at least spared to a certain extent for construction.
I was in need of some essential supplies, so I began to find my way around Port. A sign on one of the buildings was indicating that merchants were inside selling their goods. I purchased a pack, the best leather armor I could afford, skinning knife, a wooden shield, short sword and grabbed a standard bow and a quiver full of arrows. I had just enough coins left over and picked up some rations, a water canteen and some flint and steel for starting a fire from one of the other merchants. I packed my gear in the pack and headed out the door.
Having lived my entire life deep within a Forest...I felt like I was getting a little overwhelmed by the size of the Port, its massive structures, and the amount of citizens that resided here in this Port. I then started walking around to see if I could maybe calm down myself a bit. I made my way to the front gate of the Port and headed out to explore this new area. I noticed a small pond outside the main gate and walked over and took a look to see if there were any fish to be had..I was feeling hungry at that time and did not want to use one of the rations I had just purchased. Hmmm. only carp....only good to cut up and bury it in the dirt to grow vibrant and healthy fruits and vegetables. Just then I noticed a lady approaching from the road towards me. "Hello..I have not seen you around before"...you just arrive by ship?"...the lady asked me. I greeted her and introduced myself and that I in fact had just arrived off one of the ships in Port. She asked me if I would like some help getting to know the area better? I accepted her offer. She then told me her name.... Ferrit Pandorn.
Ferrit led me out of Port and into what she told me was referred to as the Dapplegreen Outskirts. She must of known that I came from the forest..because before we got there, she told me.."I think you will like this area.."
As we entered the woods..my nerves started to settle. The animals were a pleasant sight and the quietness of the trees reminded me of home...even if just a little. We passed by an area near a cliff that had a patch of Willow trees near the edge. I come to this area frequently to rest and enjoy some quiet times... Ferrit and I said Farwell to each other and she left me to the trees and walked off heading north. I truly give her thanks for leading me to this wooded area. I felt like myself again amongst nature and its surroundings.....

Dream Dance, Autumn Twilight, 12, 1458
Thru my long travels I have seen many new lands now, not knowing truly what to expect when I had first arrived. I moved under the shadows off the trees and explored with caution. I found these lands were rich with game, that has kept my stomach full thru the long days on the trail. Their skins and pelts that I have sold have kept my needed supplies in good stock. After the kill, I myself take a moment to thank the animal for what is has provided. Father taught me that one should pray at the harvesting of the animals they stalk and hunt...the animal sacrificed its life to provide food from the meat and warmth from their skin.
Over the next few months I befriended many fellow adventurers traveling over Mistone . There were a few distant folk along the way, but most were cordial and willing to aid me with information and or guiding me to certain areas I had heard of in Layonara. I traveled with them over many miles, thru vast mountain ranges, saturated swamp lands, and some beautiful lush forests. They took me to the remote cities of Hlint and Haven...each town having its own unique purpose for being there. Hlint seems to be a way point for explorers on their travels. The Inn at the crossroads there..the "Wild Surge" I believed it's called, is rather spacious inside and is a good place to rest up with drink and some good filling food from the cook before heading out again.
I often think of home....where are my Parents?...are they still alive?...
My heart tries to search for an answer but never finds one. I can only hope that they made it out of our former village and they have found each other once again. I pray to Longstrider everyday for that... I often see them in my dreams... The dreams are usually peaceful and I wake with a smile on my face. Maybe one day I will find out the fate of my Parents..but I don't count on it and I must go on with my Father's wishes...which I intend to with extreme determination till I have achieved every last wish of his for me to achieve...
*Yawns*...
By the position of Orn and Ausir in the sky I can sense it's getting late and I will end this entry here for now till another day...

Bright Eye, Winter Snow, 16, 1458
I have been fortunate enough to have met certain folks in my travels that were in need of certain tasks and or duties that they needed to have completed for them. I accepted these tasks and have helped many in return. I was rewarded with coins that are known in these lands as "True". The duties and tasks that I did not only provided me with the much needed True for supplies and bandages.....but gave me the combat experience I so desired. With each increasing battle, I find my arrow placements were finding their mark more accurately. But the softwood bow I had purchased when I first arrived is just not what I need out here in these lands...The draw weight on that bow was just not making for good arrow penetration anymore, especially against a Giant's thick coarse skin. I must obtain a stronger stick and string...but where? I thought...
As I made my way across Mistone, I came upon a message board near one of the towns I was passing. I made my way over and my eye caught an advertisement tacked up from a local archery craftsman who was offering his services and goods... The name on the end of the advertisement was Fehriel Cailomel. I quickly scribed below his name that I wished to inquire about his crafting services. I hoped that all my hard work over the past months will now be able to provide me with the funds to purchase a new bow.
Fehriel had gotten in touch me and we arranged a meeting to discuss what type of bow I was seeking out. I indicated that I wanted a hardwood bow with good draw weight for better arrow penetration. The craftsman looked at me and said "No Problem, be ready for you soon ShadowLeaf" . After a few weeks, Fehriel sent word that my bow was ready and I could come and pick it up. I made my way to his locale and we met soon after. When he put the bow in my hands, it felt smooth and the look of it was the defining work of a quality craftsman with long years of training and skill in the art of Archery crafting. He said "Go and release a few arrows and make sure there is nothing we need to adjust for you". I took a few steps off the side, picked a small spot on a dead tree nearby and pulled back the bow. My arms strained at first due to its heavier draw weight, but I found the smoothness of the draw to compensate for it, held on a tight spot on the dead tree and released the arrow. The bow followed thru with out recoil and the arrow shot was exactly where I wanted it to go. I wanted to try its range capacity, so I looked out at about 40 -50 yards for something else. I noticed a small dead wood stump up on the edge of this rock that was about that distance. I drew the bow back and steadied my eyes on the target and let it go. I was amazed to see the arrow go sailing over the stump much higher then were my eyes were looking. At that moment I realized that the new draw weight on this bow is much different then my old bow, so I would need to practice with this bow to know its maximum range limits and be able to group my arrows shots at that distance no bigger then the size of a human fist.
I thanked Fehriel and said the bow was indeed a fine stick and string. I paid the man his well earned fee for the bow. We both said farewell and left in opposite directions. I left that evening and went to one of my secluded night time perches in Silkwood Forest, just off of Folain's Vale. I can feel Longstrider's presence around me when I sleep near there, so I tend to go there often.....
The Rangers clan that my father commanded back in my former village, crafted their bows to have a certain look to them to differentiate them between the other neighboring Ranger clans. Our clan would tightly wrap black cloth strips around the risers for added camouflage and they mounted spiked hand guards to the bows, for hooking enemies in close combat and throwing them off to the side for a counter attack. I wanted my new bow to resemble the look of theirs, so I took some time and customized my bow to have the look of my once former villages clan bows...

Winged Trade, Winter Deep, 20, 1459

I found myself following a stream near Lake Allun one afternoon. I walked just inside the wood edge along the stream to conceal my movement and started to still hunt for some dinner. My eyes caught movement off in the distance of two deer making their way thru the forest to a known night time feeding area. I felt the wind at my back, so I knew I had to get ahead of them before my scent alerted them to my presence...
I crouched low and stayed hidden behind the trees and foliage as I made my way to a possible ambush site. I eventually crossed over their path of direction and that put the wind back in my favor now. I spotted a downed tree and headed for its position. When I got to the downed tree, I got behind it, nocked an arrow and waited for the deer to pass. Their path of travel was going to put them at about 20 or so yards away from I and I sat motionless as they approached near.
I waited till the first deer went by and then focused on the trailing deer. Once the second deer gave me a quartering away shot, I drew back and let my arrow fly. At first I thought, "Did I miss"...cause I did not see an arrow sticking in the side of the deer that just ran 10 yards or so and fell dead. I got out from behind the tree and went over to examine the area where I shot the deer. I found my arrow on the ground near there, and it was wet with blood from tip to feathers, so I knew I had in fact made a good shot. I went to my animal and examined it... and said quick prayer to thank Longstrider for this animals sacrifice. I noticed an entry wound and to my surprise.. an exit wound too! My first pass thru shot, Father would of been proud of that one.
After skinning the animal and taking some meat, I noticed a small pack of wolves hanging on the edge of the forest. They were watching what I was going to do with the rest of the deer. I had originally thought I was going to butcher the entire deer and give the meat to some hungry folk, but once I saw that this pack of wolves was a family and had pups with them...I left the remaining meat for the wolves and walked away slowly. Once I was clear of the animal, the pack rushed in and began to feast on the deer. The Alpha male looked up at me and I could sense that he was thankful for what I have done for his pack.
I left there with a feeling that I had bonded with these wolves somehow and could almost understand what they were saying to one another. Now that I think of it, I have had many more animals traveling with or near me lately, and I am starting understand their vocabulary a bit even. Who knows. Maybe its mom trying to send a message to me...
I hope that one day I will know the answer to that...

World Tree, Spring Dawning 7, 1459
My combat training over the past weeks has been exhaustive! My confidence is building with each session though, and I owe it all to Father.
I can remember way back when Father first started me on his training regiments. Ever since I can remember, I was always shooting a bow...daily.
Father would set up many targets and would have me fly countless arrows at each target till I could barley bring my bow up for the next shot. He never let up on me...constantly looking for better technique and form.
One training exercise that I did like is the one where he would take cut round tree disks and roll them quickly on the ground and make me get two arrows in the disk before it toppled over flat.
It took me a while to finally master, but that exercise alone has kept some nice rabbits roasting over a flame many of nights for me.
The next 20 or so years were weekly long hours of shot practice from different angles, elevations and distance. I was now becoming one with my bow.
As my skill grew over time, I could just about hit anything within 25 yards or so with an arrow. My critical range shot ability was well past the pace of the other younger Rangers in our village.
*chuckles as he writes next sentence*
It helps when you are trained by the General himself!
Father said that I also must learn with sword and shield for the times when your enemy gets past your arrows.
There was this one day where Father had me up at dawn and we headed for one of his favorite training areas.
He handed me a shield and sword and said..."OK, Shadow. Let's see you what you can do with these" . The blade and shield felt a bit awkward in my hands but I did as my Father instructed.
I made some thrusting motions with the sword with slashing motions in between. "NO! NO! Here lad let me show you" he said to me, and began to instruct on the proper use of the blade.
He said to unleash an attack only when your opponent's counter attack is not an option, parry around your opponent, and then swiftly move your blade in to pierce a vulnerable area.
He also told me the importance of always keeping your shield up when attacking so the enemy cannot find a weak spot to strike, and to stop incoming archer shots.
We practiced for years with repetitious movements and endless drills. I finally started to learn the techniques of my Father's instructions and my melee skills had improved over the long training sessions.
I sure do miss him...
*thinks to himself*
Thank you Father, for those training lessons have saved my life more then once...

Today I trained in tracking and reconnaissance.
I left my weapons up in the tree as I did not need them for this type of training. I did take my skinning knife though, just to be able to defend myself if needed. I headed for Silkwood Forest to search for tracks..any kind really..just something I pick up and follow for this training exercise.
I came across deer tracks that seemed to be relatively fresh. I scanned the area ahead for the animal...my eyes did not pick up any movement off in the distance. I slowed my pace and started following the tracks. The trail meandered through the forest. Then the deer's stride seemed to be getting longer as if its pace had quickened for some reason. I tracked the deer's path into some thick underbrush and had to get down and crawl to stay with the tracks. I did lose the tracks a few times, but I just backtracked till I picked up the trail again.
The deer's tracks were indicating that this deer in fact had started to run. I thought, I must of not been patient enough and spooked the animal into a run. The ground around the deer's tracks told me the reason why this deer in fact started to run. Along with the single deer tracks, there were now from what I could estimate , were 4 or 5 Wolves following in pursuit. I had to slow my pace down considerably now, I was having a tough time picking out the deer tracks through the paw prints made by the wolves. Every 10 or so yards I would stop and listen...scan ahead and then continue on the trail slowly. I must of stayed on the trail for hours. The trail came to a downed tree and I hoped over it. I scanned the ground and could not make out the deer tracks anymore? I got down on my knees and studied the trail. The wolf prints were very clear, but no deer tracks? I went back to where I last confirmed the deer's tracks and that was right before the downed tree, but no tracks after the tree? I then began to scan the area around the tree off the sides. My eyes caught small hoof depressions in the ground off to the side of the original trail. I picked up the deer's tracks again, this time heading off in a different direction then the wolf prints. I believe the deer in its state of fear, ran to the downed tree trunk and bounded off to the side. This must of been just enough for the pursing wolves to lose the trail.
The deer's tracks indicated that the animal was walking at normal pace again. As I came to the edge of the Forest, I saw the deer 30 yards or so bedded down in some thick bushes for some needed rest after being chased so long by hungry wolves. OK, my tracking exercise was complete, now came reconnaissance.
I got down on my belly and low crawled to the direction of where the deer was bedded down. Inch by inch, I quietly dragged myself towards it. The deer did look my way a few times but I kept still and let the deer settle back down. I got to about 10 feet away and still I was undetected. I observed the deer for some time as I laid on the ground motionless. The deer eventually looked my way again, stood up and walked away slowly.
I felt very pleased with today's training...The deer taught me that, even when you think all is lost , you should never give up.

Bright Eye, Autumn Dark 23, 1459
*Sits high aloft in a tree nook next to the Zainge River. Pulls a quill and his brown covered book from his pack, flips a few pages and begins scribing*......
The other day I met a warrior who went by the name of Ragnar. A rugged man who said he was in need of some help. He began to tell of an area outside of Hlint called the Red Light caverns. In my recent visits to Hlint, I overheard many explorers telling long tales of these caverns, deep caves with many interlaced veins and corridors that were also guarded goblins. There was talk that these caves even held a red like haze in the air that created an evil aura to the caverns upon entering.
Ragnar said these goblins had been recently seen moving in and out of the cave entrance and he wanted to go investigate. We headed out of Hlint and made our way to the wastelands. We came up on a hill and I noticed the sparkle of a fire near an encampment back near the cliff's edge. Beside the tent there stood two goblins conversing about something. We crept up a little further and my eyes caught sight of a few other goblins patrolling the outer edge to our right side. Ragnar turned back to me and said "These are just the scouts; they need to be eliminated before they can send someone to alert others of our presence here".
Before I could concur with his statement, Ragnar was charging towards the patrol goblins with sword drawn. They noticed him advancing, and rushed to meet the intruder head on. Ragnar brought back his heavy blade and swung on the first foe with a load roar. The thick steel blade connected, sending the goblin slamming to the ground, breaking its neck in the process. The second one saw an opportunity and tried to lunge its sword at Ragnar. My arrow pierced high into its body. The goblin grasped at the arrow deeply embedded in its chest, staggered a few steps then fell dead at Ragnar's feet. The warrior turned to me and said "Well done Elf, he never even saw that arrow coming".
The other two goblins had noticed the skirmish and took counter measures. One of the greenies must of been some type of shaman because it summoned a dark wolf to fight against us. I got two arrows in the shaman before Ragnar's sword took its life away in one clean sweep, therefore dismissing the summoned Wolf. The last one knew of its coming fate and just came at Ragnar in a wild desperation attempt...
I can still hear the crack in my head today from the goblin's leg bone snapping when Ragnar severed it clean that day.
We made our way into the cold and damp cave below the cliffs. As soon as we entered the cave we were quickly met by another goblin patrol. They charged us before I could get my bow up, and I felt a cold piece of steel voilently slice deep into my arm that sent a shockwave of pain throughout my body. I turned on my attacker and swung my bow sideways at the green foe. My bow's spiked hand guard snagged the goblin in its cheek, throwing him off to the side where Ragnar was waiting having already dispatched the first few goblins. The goblin grasped at his face in pain and looked up only to see Ragnar's blood soaked blade drive deep into its chest. Ragnar noticed my right shirt sleeve was soaked with fresh blood. I cut my arm sleeve off and applied a bandage with good pressure to stop the bleeding. We looked at each other and said that we better head back for safety before going down the cave any further.
We left the cave and headed back to Hlint to rest and heal from our skirmishes with the goblins. The Wild Surge was busy that night with many a patrons. Ragnar and I sat down at a corner table, ordered some of Yastin's home made stew, ordered a few Wizard Wheat ales and began to tell our own tales of the Red Light caverns...
A place that my curiosity shall bring me again someday....

World Tree, Autumn Dark 28, 1459
*Leans against a big tree on the edge of the White Horn Forest*
Today I explored the outer edges of the White Horn Forest. I did not venture deep within today though; I just traveled here to get a look around these woods and scout for new hunting areas. I sat down at mid day to have a small meal and rest up a bit. As I was going thru my pack I heard some rustling on the forest floor beside me. My eyes tracked the movement of the leaves and out popped a little squirrel. He sat on his hind legs and let out a few chirps at me. I was surprised to see this little animal was not afraid of me and appeared to be relaxed.
I slowly went to my pack and pulled out some chestnuts that I had collected a few days ago. I threw the squirrel a nut and he immediately rushed to it, and began to work at the shell between his two little paws and teeth. Upon finishing his treat, he came in a little closer to me sniffing the air as he approached. I tossed a few more nuts near him and he consumed all of them in a few minutes. Sensing that I was of no threat to him, the squirrel came over and climbed up on my outstretched leg. He curled up and went to sleep for a while. I sat there just admiring my new furry friend. I should call him by other then just "squirrel", I thought to myself. He did seem to have a found taste for Chestnuts, so I named him "Chess".
Chess awoke on my leg some time after, sat up and stretched. He climbed back down and chirped a few barks at me. I could just barely understand what he was trying to communicate to me. He thanked me for sharing my nuts with him and that if I ever needed to send a note or letter to anyone, he could take the note and find the person with ease as he knows areas very well.
I thanked Chess and set a few more chestnuts on the ground for him and said farewell to the tiny forest animal. I left Chess to his nuts and headed out of the Forest.

She walked up over the small knoll just in front of me. My attention was instantly drawn to her aura. Her body glided over the uneven land as if without effort. Her clothing revealed her feminine petite toned body, and I noticed the faint outlines of a delicate face under her hood. I approached her as she made her way to the group I was traveling with at the time. I greeted her with a smile and introduced myself. She smiled to me and said "Good evening. My name is Feawen". "Evening, milady, I am Shadowleaf". I replied. My heart started thumping, as I was little nervous standing before such a beautiful female Elf. I kept my composure and we conversed a bit while the others in the group were busy making preparations to embark once again.
We offered that Feawen may travel with us for safety reasons and she graciously accepted. We ventured into the Black Dog Moor swamps. I overheard some of the group telling the history behind these inundated lands. They spoke of the "Dark Disaster", a magical dark burning cloud that blanketed the Forest, killing the Elves and all living plant life within, leaving an open desolate landscape.
As we moved through the swamps, I found my eyes kept glancing over to Feawen every so often, and noticed she was glancing back my way at the same time. We looked at each other; smiled and gazed into each other's eyes, if just for a moment, then moved on.
She was skilled in the arts of hand-to-hand combat. During one of our battles with the Lizard folk, Feawen engaged two simultaneously and her hand and leg strikes quickly dispatched the reptilians - impressive she was with using her body as her weapon. She could also run quite fast, and I was challenged to keep up with her at times on the dry ground of the swamps. The group proceeded with caution as we slowly moved through the soggy muck- and vine-infested swamps.
As we made our ways across the Moor, we encountered many a foe that night. Feawen also displayed great concern for others and was right there with a healing bandage for anyone who was injured during battle. She seemed to care more about others than herself - a trait not seen much these days in folk.
We traveled into the night and kept our wits afront. As we headed out from the Moors, two Lizard scouts saw us making our way across the saturated bog and we quickly had to seek cover from incoming arrows shots. The group's leaders rushed to abolish our attackers. We stopped to rest after we left the Black Dog Moors. Feawen was busy tending to wounds from the archer attacks. Andrew Reid came up to me and furtively handed me a red rose. Andrew leaned over to me and said "Give this to her, Leaf; the ladies love flowers". I had seen my father give flowers to my mother from time to time, so I knew it was a good idea. I waited for the right moment...
The group packed up their equipment and we moved out, heading West . Feawen and I took a different path, which put us alone on a trail for a few minutes. I saw my opportunity, went up and presented the rose to her accompanied with a heartfelt smile. She smiled back, sniffed the rose and thanked me for my kind gesture towards her.
We all made it back to safety that night. As the group all started to go their own separate ways to recover from this night's expedition, Feawen said she had to leave for the night as well. We smiled at each other one last time, and I leaned over, took her by the hand and whispered softly in her ear.."I do hope I see you again soon, milady". Feawen, in a low soothing voice, replied. "I hope so too Leaf".
As they departed, both of them kept looking back over their shoulders to watch as the other one faded away into the darkness of night......

*Ties note to Chess and sends him off to find Feawen and deliver his note*
Feawen...
Since we last saw each other that night in the Black Dog Moors, you have been on my mind more often than not. I was taken by your delicate manner but also that you can be brave when required.
Since my arrival to Mistone I have not met a more interesting Elf then you. I would consider it an honor milady, if you would accompany me some time to enjoy a candlelit dinner, a fine vintage and uninterrupted conversation getting to know one another... a little more quiet and personal then trying to do it while exploring with others. Then after dinner, possibly a stroll thru the woods with the moon guiding our path?....
Please write your answer below my dear, and roll it back up, tie it back to Chess. He will know where to find me...
Shadowleaf....
*Chess returns back a few days later with note. Leaf unties note and reads Feawen's reply*
"I accept"

Dream Dance, Winter Night 12, 1460
Feawen and I planned on meeting in Hlint the other night to have dinner at the Wild Surge Inn. I came through the north gate and made my way over to the three-tier fountain with a saintly archer statue as a crown. The fountain is surrounded by a lush beautiful flower bed painted with reds and soft purple hues. I thought I would choose a flower for Feawen and present it to her before our dinner.
As I approached the fountain and flower bed, I heard a faint whisper from off to my right. "Why, hello handsome". I turned to the audible and there Feawen was sitting in the garden, slightly hidden behind the thick bed of flowers.
*Leaf admires her use of camouflage and concealment at this point...smiles to her*
"Hello my dear. I almost didn't see you sitting there", I replied to her.
Feawen stood up, brushing herself off, and walked out from the flowers. We both then sat down next to the garden and began to tell each other about our own personal lives.
She started off by telling me of her mother, "Amarie Lissesul" which means "Generous Spirit". Feawen told me that she was born earlier than anticipated and her mother perished during the delivery.
*thinks to himself. "May her mother's soul rest in peace"*
She only knows of her mother through her father's words, words that he spoke of how kind and generous Amarie could be.
*Leaf takes Feawen by the hand that night to gently comfort her as she seems to be having a hard time telling the story of her mother's passing. Feawen composes herself for a second before telling Leaf of her father*
Feawen's father, "Luthien Tiwele" meaning "Wind Dancer" was a great man from what I gathered through our conversation that night. He reassured her that it was in no way her fault that her mother passed away, but that she was simply just not strong enough to survive the labor during the delivery.
Her father had the most understanding patience with her through her younger years. Luthien took Feawen with him everywhere he went. He instilled the views in her of precise and incorrect in the world.
He educated her that possessions were not necessary and all she needed was already inside of her; she just needed to unchain the potential she had from within. He instructed her to carry on till one day she discovers, her own path of enlightenment.
Through her words I learned that she never really had a home so to speak, but wandered the lands with her father around the Wolfswood Forest in Alindor. She spoke with great sincerity about how her father would tuck her in for the night. She would begin to fall asleep in his arms listening to bedtime stories of his travels in his low tender voice.
Then one day she awoke damp, with a fire barely smoldering one morning with her father gone from her side. Feawen was left outside a monastery and made the decision to not follow in her father's path. She chose a different path to follow that day. While at the monastery, Feawen tended the fields, and over the years, learned many teachings from the monks who resided at the monastery. Over time, she crafted her body and mind into well-tuned instruments. One day she finally felt like she must move on from the monastery and seek out this emergent feeling from within her.
Feawen misses her father deeply. I pray that the note she left behind at the monastery for him arrives in his hands one day. I know how much it would mean to her if they were to be reunited again.
*Feawen was almost in tears from telling the story of her parents that night. She was soothed by Leaf when he slowly lifted her chin up with a finger, waited for her eyes to raise and meet his... then whispered to her....
"Thank you for sharing that with me, I know that was hard to speak of aloud".
I then asked her if there was a meaning behind her name... "Feawen Silimaure"?
She replied. "Yes, it was name given to me by my father; it means "Freed Spirit" .
My heart felt a great deal for her then, and I wanted to take her mind away from her own sorrow. I began to tell her the story of my life...
I started from as far back as I could even remember. I informed her that I did not know exactly from whence I came from. Upon first hearing that, she thought that was a bit strange as most folk do. I told her that my parents never told me the name of the land I lived on because they both knew their son would avenge their deaths should our village ever fall, and they should happen to perish in the assault. Feawen understood why after hearing that. I told her of the fateful day that my home was invaded by the
*starts to frown and his scribing becomes large and jagged with rage* Orcs!
*stops scribing and begins to thinks to himself*
"I will have to go see if any more of the scum are back in Moraken's Abobe. I will silently sneak up behind them and feel my blade slice into their jugular area, listen to them choke on their own blood and view them as they gasp for their last breath in this world and say to the dyeing filth..... 'There! Now can not destroy any more forest villages"
*Lets his anger begin to flow away from him, knowing his parents taught him never to hate, but the eternal deep anger for Orcs grows within him with each passing day.*
I told Feawen of how the Sea Elves sailed me from my home and we were at sea for many weeks till we docked in Port Hempstead...that I must fulfill my father's wishes and one day become part of a Ranger Core dedicated to protecting the forests. She knew how serious I was about achieving that objective, from the passion with which I spoke of it that night.
*Feawen, hearing the horror of that momentous day of which he spoke, takes Leaf's hand and pulls it to her, while bringing her other hand over the the top to encompass his hand, showing compassion for him.*
Before we realized it, we had been sitting next to the garden talking for hours now. We never made it to dinner that night, but I wouldn't change that night even If could...just sitting there opening up to her, and having a feeling from inside that I felt I could tell this beautiful lady anything. I never spoke of my history to anyone before Feawen came into my life.
We both decided to go for a walk into the night. I stood and offered Feawen a hand for her to receive and stand, which she did, thanking me with a warm smile in return.
We walked around the outskirts of Hlint, with the stars as our witnesses. For the place where we were destined, we did not know nor did we even seem to care at the time. With our hands tenderly holding one another's we viewed the constellations deep in the unfathomable dark sky that night.
A night I shall never forget.

Winged Trade, Winter Night 27, 1460

I felt like taking a relaxation day, and just wanted some peace and quiet and do a little fishing for dinner. I stumbled onto a thick overgrown old path that was just west of Folian's Vale one day, I turned and headed west on the barely visible trail, I wanted to explore its destination. Perhaps, it would lead me to some secret fishing hole beyond, a place no one in Mistone has ever fished before.
As I meandered through the dense foliage, I started to hear rushing water ahead, so I knew then that the direction of the trail would lead me to water. I broke through the vines and overgrown vegetation to an area where the Ro River meets the Zainge River. The sun was bright that day and the flying insects were emerging in abundance.
The area was pristine and very remote. There were huge boulders that spilled into the oncoming currents; creating deep swirling pools behind them that I knew would hold big trout and bass, a lesson I learned from me father first hand one day as a youth.
I climbed up on large rock near where the two rivers met, keeping my profile low from being seen by wary trout. I knocked one of my arrows with a barbed broad head and attached a line to the arrow shaft. I coiled a few loops of slack line on the ground next to me, and then tied the end of the line back to my bow. I took a breath of fresh air, and began to scan the surrounding pools for rising fish.
I waited, and I waited. ........
My eyes finally caught sight off a large dark shadow, rising up for an appetizing bug that had just landed on the surface in the eddy off to my side.
I waited for the fish to turn and present me with a good side shot, and get clear of the foam that congregated at the surface from the rushing river waters.
I drew my bow and set my eyesight dead on the large unsuspecting fish, as it went for the fly on the water's surface. My three shooting fingers let loose, the slack coils of line peeled away from my feet as I sent the arrow to my prey. The line stopped dead when my ears heard a good thud sound, indicating a solid hit.
I dropped my bow in excitement and quickly bent down and grabbed the line, as it started racing away from me once again when the fish darted away in distress. When I finally got a secure hold on the line, my hands burned from line ripping through them for a few seconds from the fleeing fish. I struggled to gain ground on the fish, as it was very strong and tried to dive to the deep rocky shelter below. Thankfully, the head shot quickly took its toll, as all shots should only be taken when the outcome will be a quick, ethical and a humane harvest.
As I started to haul in my catch; the heavy dead weight on the end of the line made me grin from ear to ear. I had not yet seen the size of fish through the rivers turbulent water surface. I pulled it to the shoreline and finally viewed its mass, I was astonished! The fish was almost the length of my arm and it had to weigh close to a small pig at market scale!
I bowed my head and thanked Longstrider for this magnificent trout, quietly.
"This will feed many hungry folk and friends tonight"...I said as I gazed at the river giant now beached upon the shore.
I cleaned the fish on the bank to lighten the trip back to share in the bounty of today's catch. I had to fold the fish over and tuck its tail down inside, just to be able to fit it in my pack. I hoisted the weighted pack over my shoulders, grabbed bow and headed out of my new secret spot. A spot that I hope, I will be able to stumble onto again one day.
*Leaf thinks to himself knowing that Feawen loves to fish as much as he does*
"I wish Feawen was there to be a part of that great catch with me. I long to see her again, hoping that she is currently someplace safe and warm. I cannot wait for her to show me how to fish with a stick, line and live bait one day"

The other day, I was trying to find my secret fishing hole once again, but was unable to locate the trail's camouflaged entrance. The surrounding vegetation seemed thicker and things looked a little different to me than last time.
I eventually went back to one of the areas that I like to fish frequently. I managed to get a few trout from the Zainge River that day. As I walked the forest edge in search of other secret trails to great fishing holes, a loud roar erupted from the woods. The roar seemed to resemble that of a large bear.
The bear's roar was not one that I normally hear in the forests though, as when they battle for territory. Rather this one sounded as if the roar were one of pain. I quickly made my way in the general direction, to see if I could locate this bear.
When I started to run, I heard another pain-felt roar.
The bear was undeniably in pain and curiosity quickened my pace to seek out the reason behind the bear's outcries. I darted through the trees trying to stay on a general heading of where the roars were coming from. Then my ears began to hear dissimilar sounds. I stopped and concentrated them in the direction I was headed. Kobalds!
As I approached a small hill that I knew overlooked a deep depression beyond, my ears confirmed that kobalds were just on the other side of the hill. I quietly dropped my heavy pack and low and crawled up the hill to get a peek over the top. I winced, when I heard the bear roar in pain once again before making it to the top. Once I reached the grassy crest, my eyes witnessed three kobalds, torturing this poor defenseless bear for their utter amusement. I looked at the animal as it lay on its side in severe misery and pain.
I noticed many puncture wounds in the bear's shoulder region from the spears of the kobalds. The blood still trickled down the spear's shafts, confirming my judgment and explaining the bear's agony.
One of the kobalds turned to its pack and pulled out a rusty axe, went over to the bear, raising it over its head.
"This is going to end right here, and right now!" I said to myself as I rose to my knees to fire a shot at the threatening kobald.
My arrow pierced its wrist, wielding the axe, pinning it along with the kobald to the tree behind it. The other two looked up to me atop the hill, and rushed my position. I bounded to my feet, ripped my blades from their sheaths and taunted the bullies with a fierce battle cry.
As the two stormed up the hill, I stood still and let them to come right to me. Just before the pike men reached me with their spears, I tumbled up and over the kobalds, landing steady on my feet behind them. I quickly lowered my battle stance and came across with a sweeping arc of one of my short swords that was met with an unarmored enemy leg. The sword gashed deep into the thigh area, dismantling it into a heap of suffering.
The second one turned to me in opportunity, lunging at me with his spear. I quickly pulled back and under letting the spear closely pass over my left shoulder. I firmly brought up my other sword to knock the spear handle above me, throwing my attacker back a few feet. The enraged kobald came at me again, but this time I was anticipating the assault. When the pole was jousted at me, I side-stepped the attack and spun closer to the kobald, my blades piercing its chest upon finishing my revolution.
The first kobald, whose leg was hanging on by a cracked femur and a few strands of tendons clenched its shredded appendage, still paralyzed and howling. "You will suffer deeply for your outlandish actions today" I said with anger to the foe. I went to it and ended its screams with a quiet blade insertion to its heart.
The final kobald, still pinned to the tree, started to panic, frantically tugging at his wrist imprisonment from my precise arrow placement, making the wound drive streams of blood down its trapped arm. I slowly walked toward it and re-sheathed my blades after wiping them clean on the ground. The creature started to relax and seemed to think for a second, that I was going to let him go. *chuckles*
I bore my eyesight into the foul smelling beast for a few moments before bending and grasping its weapon. I stood back up to see the fear in the kobald's eyes return quickly.
I violently drove the spear into the kobalds right shoulder, twisting the tip to send shockwaves of pain throughout its body. I ripped the spear free from bone, then placed the spear onto its left shoulder and applied a little pressure and slowly drove the spear deeply. I then grabbed the kobald's head, as it screamed in pain, forcing him to look at the bear; I wanted it to be the last thing it would see in this world.
My final attack drove the spear hard into the tree, passing right through the heart of the kobald, killing it, as I watched the life shake from its fingers.
I turned to look upon this near death animal before me...barely breathing.
I knelt down by the bear's side and examined its puncture wounds. The bear's thick hide prevented from the spears penetrating deeply. His wounds were in need of healing ointments and a good cleansing.
I ran back to my pack and grabbed some aloe, comfey, my water canteen and some bandages. I went back to the bear and got to work tending to the animal's care. I cleansed his puncture areas with water and some clean cloths. I then smeared crushed aloe and comfey on the bandages and tied the bandages around the bear as securely as I could.
The water drops to his mouth he did so enjoy, lapping at it with fervor. I stayed with him for a while till he rolled, and struggling to come to a sitting posture.
Still weak but coherent, the bear shook its head a few times and pawed at its mouth. I tilted my head in a puzzled stare at the bear. Then I realized his wish....Food! It only took my a few seconds and I was rushing back to my pack. I came back to the bear with the few trout I had caught earlier in the day. The look in its eyes was priceless. He looked to me and formed a smile before flopping to his belly and grabbing the trout and beginning to feast.
I watched this bear consume the fish quickly. All that was left were picked skeletons, and I was amazed at how he could work out even the smallest areas of meat with his large muzzle.
Once he finished his meal, the bear lay back down for a long slumber. I sat with him and as he slept, I kept changing his bandages every so often and cleaning his wounds to prevent infection. I slept next to him through the night. I awoke to the bear still sleeping, so I went back down to the river to try to take a few more trout or bass for the bear to eat, also to fill my canteen.
I took a few bass, not as big like the trout the preceding day, but some good meaty ones. I went back to the bear and he was alarmed at first hearing me, but upon seeing it was the figure who had been aiding him, he went back to a peaceful manner.
I went to the bear and he sat before me, seemingly happy. I gave him the three chunky bass and watched him tear through them with fierceness, one after another. I cupped one of my hands and poured some water from my canteen into it for the bear to drink, letting it spill over my fingers. He approached without hesitation and began lapping the drink from my hand.
We spent the next several days together until he was fully healed and back to his old bear self again.
During that time with him, I started to understand this bear's grunts, moans and even his some of his roars. We went fishing together on The Zainge one afternoon. He waded into the shallow pools and herded the fish toward me. It was easy pickings that day. We both gorged ourselves on trout and bass around the fire that night.
We started to work in unison beginning to anticipate how the other one was going to set up, move, and ambush. We even got to know each others basic language structure over meals and our times together.
I felt like I had acquired a good friend that day.
I have been to fortunate enough to have at least an understanding of this bear's given name. One night after consuming a large deer- well mostly him-he sat back and grunted to me the name that his sow mother gave to him upon giving birth to him in their den just north of here.
The bear opened his muzzle letting out a long throaty grunt, resembling..... Grrrraaaahhhmmm .
I paused for a second, trying to gather the sound.
I said "Your name is Grom?"
He came up and gave me a big lick across the face after I asked, so I was happy I could understand him and could pronounce his name correctly.
On the last day before I left Grom, we were out walking around the Silkwood Forest looking for berries. I spotted a group of goblins making their way back to the wastelands. Grom sensed my alarmed state and looked to me with adrenaline.
"Steady, boy" I said. "Let us see where they are headed first".
We followed the goblins till they were almost back in the wastelands. Then, for whatever reason, they turned and headed in a different direction at a quicker pace now. Grom and I followed close behind. He jumped over a low lying area and landed on a downed log that made a loud snap as it broke.
The goblins heard the loud crack in the silent woods, stopped, turned, and headed straight back in our direction. We both froze in our tracks after the crack of the log through the silent forest. I heard their foot traffic coming back in our way. I told Grom to quickly hide in the bushes and wait till they passed before launching an attack. He grunted to me in agreement and leapt into the shrubbery. I tucked behind a tree and waited for the reckless to pass.
One...., Two...., the third went by and I fired an arrow into the back of its head as it dropped to the forest floor, motionless. The other two goblins turned, with both of them hurling small war hammers at me concurrently. I managed to duck under the first hammer's trajectory, but the second one flew in the same line that I chose to dodge the first one. The hammer struck the side of my head and things went blurry and dark as I dropped to my knees in complete disarray.
I heard a loud roar from in front of me; bones started snapping and goblins were crying out in terror. I still lay helpless on the ground, dazed and confused from the solid blow to my head. My ears were my only orientation at that point.
The tearing of goblin flesh and agony is all I could distinguish. I have never heard goblins cry out in agony like that before. The blurry visions of goblins being mauled and ripped to pieces is all I could gather through the melee. Once the screams of the goblins fell instantly silent, I knew Grom's long sharp teeth had driven deep into their vulnerable esophagus tissue.
I awoke from having lost consciousness during Grom's carnage on the goblin party. My eyes began to focus on Grom panting heavily over me protectively. I sat up slowly and felt his big wet tongue lap across my face over and over till I pulled away. Grom leaned his head into mine and nuzzled up to me.
"Thanks. Boy, I am glad to see you too my friend", I said to Grom.
I petted my new companion and once I got my wits about me, stood up. I leaned over and hugged Grom for his valiant effort to help me against the goblins. He leaned his head into me with great enthusiasm.
I instructed Grom that he not need travel with me continually, but rather remain and prosper in the forests until I shall have to call for his help again one day. I understood through his grunts, friendly posture, that he would be close, should I ever need him.
Grom and I have bonded as one unit, now it seems like. We both can sense the others thoughts, feelings and actions.
Most of the time Grom comes when I call to him, but, after all he is just a bear and is sometimes off raiding a beehive somewhere in search for a smackerel of honey.

*pulls pack off his shoulders, hanging it along with his bow on a tree limb. Sits next to one of his favorite trees, pulling a brown book from his pack, flipping pages to the first blank one that appears and begins to scribe*
What a trip that was! I have never had a more memorable and enjoyable time. Feawen had asked me to accompany her to her home land of Alindor. She wanted to show me all the places where she traveled with her father when she was very young, along with some of the areas she had visited while growing up.
We met outside Ft. Vehl and made our way to the docks. I offered my hand to Feawen upon boarding the ship, which she graciously accepted. It was pleasant to be able to sit and talk with her near the bow of the ship as we sailed to the land upon which she was born. Our conversations lasted late into the nights on The Sea of Scales, making each other laugh, and sharing our thoughts.
Late one afternoon, the crew made sight of Alindor off the bow and scurried to make preparations for dockage in Mariner's Hold, a main port on Alindor. As soon as we stepped foot off the ship, Feawen produced an amazing smile upon her lovely face and I knew she was thinking of her father, as the sights and sounds around Mariner's Hold started filling her eyes and ears. We took a walk around port and she showed me some areas of interest in port. Then Feawen said to me, "I have so much more to show you".
She led me out of Mariner's Hold and we walked together through some very nice wooded areas. I was enjoying the many familiar plants and animals as we casually made our way through the forest, quietly taking our time as we did. Feawen asked if I would like to see some of her favorite areas on Alindor. I accepted her offer with enthusiasm and, with our fingers becoming comfortably interlocked, we embarked on our journey.
Feawen glowed with happiness, as she suddenly remembered a special time in her life, and was eager to share it with me. I realized that each time Feawen and I were together, I discovered yet another facet in her that I adored.
We stopped to rest, ate some berries, nuts, and fish for the energy she said we would need to continue on. After our mid-day meal, Feawen needed a little time for herself, and slipped into a coma of meditation. I let her have her time and set off to take a look around the immediate area, never losing sight of her as I explored. I found some berries and other edibles. While scanning the ground, I heard some leaves rustling off to my right. A pair of minks were playing some game it seemed like, running and trying to catch the other. They seemed to be having a lot of fun, and I enjoyed watching them leaping around. I then noticed something else over by a nearby tree and thought "The little lady will like this".
I went back and sat near Fewen and prepared for our departure soon. She left her meditative state of mind when I was quietly stuffing food and items into my pack. I felt as if someone were watching me. I looked up, to see the brightest smile one could ever see. She asked if I had left during her meditation. I informed her that I did take a look around, but she need not worry, as I had kept her in sight as I did. She smiled up to me upon hearing that.
Feawen said to me, "I want to show you one of the most beautiful lakes in Alindor. It's called Lake of Glass. This lake reminds me of how peaceful and gentle you are with me Leaf".
"Show me this area of which you speak", I replied.
We gathered our things and left for Lake of Glass. A long journey it was to get there, but worth every step. A magnificent lake it was, with many white stags bounding about the hill sides. I noticed the herd bull off in the distance and the stag was a very impressive animal as he stood watching over his harem proudly, no wonder why that lake has a strong and healthy stag population,as the genes are of well stock. Feawen and I strolled around the lake. We came upon a few shallow steams and creeks, though I just carried her over, so that both of us would not have to get wet. It was getting dark so we headed to a safe spot that she knew of close by.
We arrived at a well hidden, primitive campsite. I started a fire, and unclipped my cloak for us to sit on, cushioning us from the chilly forest floor. I produced a few fillets of dried trout, with some berries, placing them on my cloak next to Feawen. She smiled up at me and said "Thank you" and began to nibble on the food. I smiled while winking back to her, taking some food for myself. I sat down next to the lovely lady while we had our meal together. She leaned her head over, laying it on my shoulder during the meal, saying that she was feeling like she could be herself around me, and that I give her a great feeling inside when I am near. I appreciated her comment and was glad that she was enjoying herself along with my company. I cleaned up after our meal, and we sat together by the fire that night, telling more stories of our histories.
I awoke sometime in the middle of the night and looked over to see Feawen was shaking a bit from the cold night air. I went to her and took off my cloak, placing it over her, tucking it inside her cloak to form a cocoon to seal her in her natural body warmth. I waited a few moments and her shaking subsided as she looked warm and content now. I went back to my tree and huddled next to it to try and escape some of the cold night breezes that were blowing through our encampment that night.
I awoke again early that morning slightly chilled, looked to Feawen still snuggled up in my cloak that I placed on her during the night. She seemed very restful and still warm, which made me feel at peace, knowing that she was no longer cold and uncomfortable. I quietly reached into my bag and pulled out the flower I found near the tree the other day, still as vibrant as that day I picked it. I tiptoed over to her. I viewed this beautiful woman sleeping peacefully on her side. I placed the flower by her, then went back to my tree and went back to sleep.
I came from dreams feeling a tickling sensation on my face. My eyes opened to see Feawen sitting next to me, smiling at me while sniffing her flower. I sat up and she gave me a warm loving hug, thanking me in the process. She loved the gift that I had secretly given her earlier that morning.
After we had something to eat and hydrated ourselves, Feawen asked me.
"Do you like to climb?" I replied "Yes I do, milady".
"Come, I will show you some of the best climbing in Alindor, but first, there is a special place I want you to see, my Leaf".
She led me off slowly, then to a full-out run, with which I actually tried to keep up at first, but her well-conditioned body and speed were so remarkable that I found myself at maximum effort.
Right before our arrival to our next destination, Feawen stopped and took my hand. She said the place we were about to enter would make me feel something special inside. I was now very curious, so we kept going quickly and then we entered the outskirts of the Wolfswood Forest, as Feawen had told me. I have traveled many forests in my lifetime, but this one had such a tranquil aura to its surroundings that I have never felt before. She led me to a few of the Wolfswood Rangers that guarded the forest, introducing us in the process. I felt a great sense of peace and belonging in this forest after meeting the rangers of Wolfswood Forest. I will indeed have to learn more about the Wolfswood Forest and these rangers that protect the forest and its borders. The rangers amiably escorted us to the forest edge; as Feawen and I thanked them for their concern.
As we left the Wolfswood Forest, I longed for the day that I should return. We headed east and after some time, we arrived in the mountains near the outskirts of Katherian. The mountain range was dark and very windy, as the air drafts rose up with extreme velocities. We ventured in and started our accent. I asked Feawen. "Does this rugged landscape have a name?"
Feawen replied back. "It is has been termed "The Path of Elemental Balance".
I asked her "Where are the ropes?"
She chuckled at me and said "We don't need ropes"
A little confused at her answer, I replied "How do we climb these mountains without ropes?"
Feawen leaned over and whispered in my ear "You will soon see, my Leaf".
I trusted her answer and heard the howling winds roaring fiercely up the cliff edge as we moved in closer. I watched Feawen get close to a cliff edge and my heart started beating a little nervously. I almost grabbed her when she was uplifted from the rocky edging, flying like a bird up toward an opening in the rock face above. She landed soundly, and motioned for me to come up and join her.
I could not believe what I had just witnessed! I then began to trust that it might just be the high velocity mountain wind currents that were causing this gift of unorthodox flight.
I stepped to the edge. I looked up to Feawen and leapt off the cliff, I felt my cloak fill, taking me up with the rising currents. I braced myself for the landing, just barely stumbling a bit as my feet met rock once again. Feawen looks to me with her beautiful smile and said "That was excellent, handsome".
"Thank you my dear". I replied
We walked around the cliff's edge cautiously. It would have been fateful should one of us happened to fall. We arrived at the next area where the wind currents were funneled into another strong updraft. This time I was relaxed in fight and landed steadily on my feet. This little lady showed no fear at all, and I was taken by her lack of apprehension as we soared over canyons and the rocky depths below.
Feawen noticed an area high above on a high peak that she wanted for us to ascend to. We made our way up to the viewpoint of which she spoke. It was so high up I could not even see where we had started.
She walked me over to the small ledge outlook and sat down in front of me looking out over the vast mountains. She turned to me, tugging at my cloak for me to join her. I sat behind her and she leaned back into my chest. Feawen walked her hand over, placing it atop mine. I affectionately grasped her delicate hand, while wrapping my arms around her, as we just sat there feeling each other's heartbeats, enjoying our time together.

There is always some surprises out in the Goblin Wastelands, and today was no exception.
I was hidden just inside the wood line near the road to Hlint, watching the hills for any goblin activity. I heard the galloping sounds of a horse quickly coming down the road. I viewed a man, pull the reigns back, bringing his mount to a descending trot before stopping out in the road. I left my position and slowly walked out from the trees, stopping just at the road's edge in front of him.
He climbed down off his horse, and said. "Greetings. Observing the hills were you".
"Yes I was, but all seems quiet today". I replied
I was admiring his mount and asked If I could approach the animal.
The man replied "Sure you can, his name is Strider".
I slowly approached the horse with a gentle hand, petting him as I did. "I am Shadowleaf", saying to the both of them.
"My name is Enzo, nice to meet you Leaf".
We stood on the road and began to talk when I realized that he was a ranger also. He then asked me. "Have you ever heard of the Wolfswood Forest, Leaf?".
I replied. "Yes I have. I recently took a trip to Alindor and visited the forest. The rangers greeted us as soon as we entered the forest. They were very considerate to me and the lady I was traveling with at the time, and offered to escort us safely through the forest. Do you have an affiliation with the rangers in the Wolfswood Forest?"
Enzo grinned at me slightly and said. "Yes, I do. I am second in command and my rank within the Wolfswood Ranger Corp. is, Commander of the Wood".
My body tightened a bit knowing that I was talking to a high ranking officer, but I became relaxed when he began to tell me the story of how the Wolfswood Rangers came to be. At one point in history, there was a dire werewolf that was devastating nearby settlements. A group of rangers set out to hunt this animal and rid the surrounding lands of this ongoing torment. After the werewolf had been eliminated, the rangers formed a fierce militia within the Wolfswood Forest dedicated to watching over the forest with great concern and defend its borders. Enzo also said that the ranger militia merely numbers a few hundred strong, because they only accept the most skilled rangers in the lands for enlistment into the corp.
I asked. "Is enlistment open to any ranger who wants join the Wolfswood Ranger Corp.?".
"Yes, enlistment is open to all, but I should inform you that there are some tough initiation challenges and quests that you must fulfill before enlistment into the ranger corp.". Enzo replied.
"No problem Sir. I do not believe I am ready for enlistment at this time. I have much training to complete yet. However, one day I will seek enlistment, you can count on that Sir". I said to Enzo with confidence.
"That is great to hear Leaf! You seem to have the drive and determination that our rangers are known for. Keep going with your training and when you feel you are ready, travel to the Wolfswood Forest and have one of the border scouts send word to me that you have arrived".
I thanked the commander for his offer, watching as he climbed back onto Strider, looking to me in the process.
"May Folian S'pae watch over you Leaf". Enzo said to me.
"May Longstrider watch over you too Sir" . I waved to Enzo, as he and Strider made haste for the Silkwood Forest.

I feel the time has come. The time for me to attempt my father's test in survival training. When I was just around 50 years old, my father sat me down and said that when I felt I was ready, I would need to test my body and mind under the most extreme conditions for a total of 7 days straight. I would have to be able to adapt and overcome hardships with minimal supplies and aid. I must learn how to push myself beyond what my mind tells me I am capable of, endure the elements and ultimately survive.
I headed to the Stormcrest shack to plan how I should accomplish this perilous training. I entered a vacant tavern with only Korim wiping down some mugs and goblets with a well used hand towel. I sat down and he poured me a stout ale. I began to tell him of my plan, asking him if he knew of a land that has a very extreme and harsh climate. He paused for moment thinking.
"I know of one such land. It has even been referred to as extreme, even that one could easily perish under such ruthless conditions for any length of time. The land you seek, Elf, is Krashin. You can sail there from Leringard, but ye might want to bring some extra clothing. The frigid cold up there is like no other. Also, the barbarian tribes that inhabit Krashin tend not to like drifters wandering near their encampments," Korim said to me.
"That sounds like just the area I need for this type of training," I replied.
I hoisted my mug of ale, gulping it down in the process and left the tavern. I headed to change the color of my cloak and armor to match the monochrome color of Krashin's snow covered lands and to gather some minor supplies for my journey.
Tonight I packed only enough food for my journey to Krashin, and brought a second canteen for the trip too. The only other equipment I am taking are my skinning knife, wood axe, bow and flint and steel. I will have to forage for all my food once I arrive at my base camp for the 7-day duration.
Tomorrow morning, I leave for Leringard.

*sends Chess with a note to find and deliver it to Feawen before leaving for Leringard*
(scribed in Elven)
My dearest Feawen,
I have come to a point in my life where I must fulfill one of my father's training lessons. I will be leaving for my expedition to Krashin's northern territories after I finish this letter to you.
I felt I should leave word with someone just in case I should not return. I must endure the elements and the glacial cold for a total of 7 days straight. I will use my thoughts of you to try to keep me warm through the long cold nights alone.
Should I happen to succumb to the harsh conditions up there and fall, I want you to continue on with your path, seeking true enlightenment and become all you desire in this world. I hope you and your father do find each other someday, I know he misses his daughter as much you miss him.
I want you to know that you have touched my heart in so many ways, that mere words cannot begin to describe my feelings for you. You are truly a lovely lady and I am honored to have had you in my life up to this point. I can only pray that I survive my training and return to view your beautiful self again. Hopefully, I should return back sometime in Autumn Dark. If Chess does not return to you soon after that time, Im afraid it means that I have fallen to Krashin's cruel environment and failed my survival training.
If this does end up taking the life force from my body, there is one thing I want to you to always remember.
I love you, Feawen Silimaure.

Night's Eye, Autumn Twilight 17, 1460

The ship I sailed on, brought me to a small port town of Krashin called Raven's Watch. I tried not to look anyone in the eye as I walked thru port and kept my identity unknown under my hood. I made my way northward toward the mountain peaks in the distance. I traveled concealed from sight along the windswept frozen hilly landscapes for many a day and night.
One evening as the sun was setting past the horizon, I noticed the faint flickers of light out on an open area down off the ridgeline I was wandering. I crept up to within eyesight of a small barbarian encampment. I nestled down onto the snow and observed the tribe from my lofted surveillance point. Some large burly men were outside an immense tent, tending a fairly large stew pot and roasting a few deer over an open fire. There were additional lesser tents spread around the encampment, with many men tying up their furs and performing other primitive duties. I saw a man rapidly advancing from a long distance across the snow toward the encampment. The man ran through the camp and into the large tent. A few minutes later, many men ran from the tent bellowing out words that stirred the entire tribe into a fierce battle-hungry clan. The tribe formed into two long lines and marched out into the icy darkness, chanting praises of battle raising their weapons high. I let the tribe completely clear the area before moving north once again.
The arctic wind near the mountains intensified, feeling like of a cold dagger piecing into my body. I wrapped around me the little extra clothing I brought and it did help some, but I was still very cold. I tried to take the least demanding trails up the mountains so I could conserve my energy, but all the trails were dicey and perfidious. I stopped behind a large snow bank to escape the biting wind for a bit and consumed the last of the food I had brought with me. I continued upward in search of a spot where I could strike camp for the next 7 days and begin my survival training. The trail started to incline severely upward, and I was having a hard time keeping my footing on the icy rocky trail. I even fell once, tumbling down the trail till a jagged rock snagged me from going over the side of cliff and plummeting to my demise. I pulled myself back up and kept going, quietly saying to myself, that I will not give in to defeat.
The night's journey up that mountain trail was a survival test in itself. The darkness brought a bone chilling wind with dense snow flurries at times. The trail disappeared under a blanket of falling snow. I lowered my head and watched every step I took with caution, hoping some type of shelter would soon appear.
By morning, I was so chilled that I could not feel my fingers or toes any longer. I had to find shelter and make a fire soon or I felt that I would perish out here. The blood in my veins was slightly warmed by the sight of a small cave entrance just above the trail ahead that was opposite from the prevailing winds.
I warily approached the cave and peered inside. The cave did not appear to be recently used by any animal or creature so I thought this might be a good place to make camp. Upon entering, I noticed a few bones near the back of the cave but they seemed very old and weathered, so I decided to stay anyway. Just to be out of the howling frigid winds made my body warmer. I did some exercises to warm me a bit before I got to work setting up camp. After getting my equipment unpacked, I grabbed my axe and went out in search of some fire wood. I found a small tree toppled over, sticking out from the snow of a recent avalanche. I dug the snow from around the tree. The cold was already taking its toll on me as I painfully chipped away at the tree, trying to gather all the pieces I could. My hands were so lethargic I was struggling just to grip the axe, with the numbness quickly turning into pain with every chop. I could not take the cold anymore and collected the wood I managed to chip away and headed back to the cave.
The feel of the flame off the tinder under the wood after striking it with my flint and steel was inspiring. The immediate warmth from the fire was soothing to my numb appendages. Sensation started to come back in my fingers and toes, though with a bit of a lasting pain. I sat by the fire and began to think "What have I done? I have just arrived here having not even started my week of survival training, and I am already feeling the effects of this brutal climate. Nevertheless, I must stay the course and endeavor to meet my objective, per my father's instructions."
The warm fire has started to ease my thoughts now and let my mind contemplate what a demanding 7 days lay ahead for me. I will rest till tommorrow morning so I can try to prepare my body. I have to just stay focused and use the skills I have learned to make it out of here alive.

Day 1
I awoke shivering and hungry this morning. The fire had lost its radiance sometime during the night, leaving me chilled to the bone. I came to my feet and began to walk around the cave. Once I felt my blood start flowing again, I did some calisthenics to warm my body. I went for one of my water canteens in my pack only to feel a freezing slush inside. Both of my canteens have burst from expansion of the water inside turning to ice and increasing past what the skins could hold. In these frigid temperatures I am now without a means to hold and store water.
I grabbed my axe and went back to the dead tree. The snow flurries from the night before made me have to dig yet again for my lumber. I was to able to hack off a few good-size pieces this time, but I began to realize that this little tree was going to have to last the entire 7 days up here, as I have not seen another seasoned piece of wood for as far as my elven eyes can penetrate across the land, just a few sparse green pine trees stand nearby. I will have to conserve my fire wood and try to make this tree last for the duration of my training.
I collected some fresh snow outside and put it into the one small cooking pot I had brought with me. I made a fire and placed two rocks next to it. I set the pot on the rocks, giving some space underneath for the air to advance flame growth. The water began to boil and I removed the pot from the fire. I let a few minutes pass before taking a few sips of the comforting hot liquid. The warmth of the fluid made me, even if only temporarily, forget about my current hunger. So I have drinking water now, but still no food.
I sit back now staring outside the cave to the snow flurries starting up once again.
*sets book down and watches the snow fall for the entire afternoon. Out of sheer boredom, he picks the book back up and starts to scribe again*
The snow outside has been falling for a while now. It is going to be hard to even locate the dead tree tomorrow.
*he views his meager wood supply, much less then the previous night's ration*
So I prepare myself for yet another cold night, as this fire will certainly fade soon to a cold char. No matter how cold I am in the morning, I must go and search for some type of food; my stomach is starting to cramp from the lack of food.
*closes his book, and throws the last large chunk of wood on the fire, saving the small twigs and branches for the fire in the morning; curls up in his cloak next to the fire and thinks of home until his eyes slowly close*

Day 2
I left the cave this morning, trying to spot any animal migrations moving near the area. I surmise that the heavy snow has kept the animals bedded down under cover somewhere and the deep snow would make searching for animal tracks impossible today. Any tracks made the night before had been erased from the snow flurries. My hunger forced me to brave the cruel elements to go and search for some type of sustenance.
I crawled through the snow up to the pine trees I had spotted the day before. I remembered when my father told me that live pine needles hold a small amount of nourishment in them. I pulled off a few handfuls of the green needles, tucking them into my pack. I noticed the tree bark around the trunk was flaking off in a small area. I used my skinning knife, and pried a few pieces of the bark off. There were a bunch of small dormant insects half burrowed into the tree. I plucked out as many as I could. My body temperature was drastically dropping below a safe level and I still needed to gather some wood for a warming fire.
The tree was hard to locate under the new accumulation of snow and I, thankfully, stumbled into it while searching. I headed back to the cave and made a small fire to prepare the edibles. My strength is becoming short-lived and even ordinary tasks are becoming an effort now. I took the pine needles, along with some fresh snow, into the cooking pot over the fire. I searched for some patience to let the water come to a boil and steep the brew for a few minutes. The hot tea felt very soothing as it ran through me. I felt an instant rejuvenation in my body after drinking the tea. I placed the tiny bugs next to the fire to cook. The crunchy little morsels were not very substantial, but at least it was something in my stomach. Even though I had something inside me, I still felt drained and unenergetic.
My body cannot bring itself to go and collect anymore more wood tonight. I will just have to make do with what I have, which probably will not last till morning. I just do not have the energy and must sleep now. With the snow flurries seeming to have subsided, I hope tomorrow's search for tracks will be more prosperous than today's.
*Lies down while gazing into the dying fire as his body shakes uncontrollably on the frosty cave floor. A slight smile forms upon his face from thoughts of someone special in his life back home.

Day 3
The snow flurries stayed away last night and there was even some sunlight penetrating the cave this morning when I finally awoke. I left the cave and surveyed the landscape. I thought if any animals traveled during the night, their tracks would still be visible today.
The snow is still deep, and my tracking was slowed considerably. I ventured farther then I had the previous days. I discovered a snow plowed trail left by a deer during the night and started following it with heightened anticipation. I stayed on the trail till my energy was almost depleted. I made the tough decision to turn back. My vitality was dwindling rapidly and I still needed to reserve some just to be able to get back to the cave.
I stopped and collected some more pine needles and a handful of grubs, then headed to the dead tree for some fire wood. The scant tree is becoming thinner with each passing day, even though I only use the wood sparingly. I struggled to haul the wood back up to the cave. My hands were shaking so bad that it took me more then a few strikes with my flint and steel to ignite today's fire. The grubs upset my stomach and I threw them back up. The tea was settling to my innards though, and I just rested for the remainder of the day trying not to let my hunger occupy my mind. Hopefully, the snow will not fall tonight and I can pick up that deer trail again tomorrow.
I am fighting with the state of my mentality now. One side of my brain tells me I should just give up, that there is no chance to survive out here. Then the other side smacks me in the face and I can almost faintly hear "doubt produces failure, confidence brings success". I search my psyche every day for strength and determination, but it is becoming a real challenge.
I know my father would never have given up and neither shall I. If my skills are not enough to lead me alive from this unforgivable climate then so be it, but failure will not come from lack of belief as I will accomplish this arduous training.

Day 4
The snow storms have held off another day. Thankfully, yesterday's trail was still visible.
After some warming tea, I left the cave and picked up the trail again, determined to follow it till I find its maker. I followed the trail over some knolls and hills for longer than I wanted, but hunger was my driving fuel. I caught the sight of antlers thrashing back and forth just above the snow line ahead. I came to a deer embedded in a snow bank, panicking, trapped in the snow. Even though my hunger was telling me to kill this easy target, I just could not bring myself to do it. I dropped to my knees beside the animal, questioning my choice. Again, my mind was torn between itself. If I harvested the animal, I could finally eat and my hunger would be gone. I watched the deer thrash about trying to free itself from its imprisonment. I made the tough decision to let him go because it would not be an ethical hunt. This deer had no chance to use its keen eyes and ears and try to evade my stalk. I could never forgive myself if I killed this animal while it was imprisoned like that. I set my bow down and dug the snow from around the deer a little. I grabbed the antlers and pulled with the little strength I could manage. The deer started to break loose and jumped from its captivity. I was lucky enough to dodge the antlers on the animal's wild exit in fear. He trotted down the knoll and stopped to look back up at me. I knew I had done the right thing, even If I should perish from hunger, I would not die with regret knowing that I killed a defenseless animal.
I slowly made the cold trip back to the cave. I was exhausted when I finally made it back. I flopped against the cave wall and tried to get some rest. I awoke around late afternoon very weak. As night approached, I was sapped to go and collect wood, and made the dangerous judgment to go without a fire tonight. The wood is almost gone and I still have 3 more days left up here.
I think l will try to sleep sitting in the corner tonight. The frigid cave floor will be just a grueling ordeal on my body.

*Wakes up with a glistening frost atop his body, he painfully sits up and is stricken by the severe arctic cold surrounding him. He stumbles back to the cave and eventually gets the fire started*
*scribing is irregular and slightly broken*
Day 5
The temperature has plummeted overnight. I went and collected as much wood as I could manage to haul back. If I did not have a fire today, I would most certainly succumb to the callous arctic conditions. My stomach is cramping pretty badly now, but if I go out in this cold to look for food, I will certainly die from exposure. The best thing for me to do is just keep this fire going and just stay here in the cave. The food will not do me any good if I am frozen dead on a mountainside somewhere. I am not sure how much longer I can survive without food though. There are not many tree grubs left to forage from the pine trees and the tea has not enough sustaining energy to make me venture away from the warmth of the fire today.
*In a slightly deranged state, he keeps the fire burning hot into the night, using most of his wood supply. He then realizes what he has done, and scolds himself for letting his feeble mind take control of his actions. *scribing is very rough with a frazzled alignment*
Day 6
All the fire wood has been depleted. If I am not able find substantial food today, I am afraid that tomorrow will never come for me. I ate the last few grubs I could collect from the pine tree. I am heading out in a last attempt to find food. I will have to suffer the biting cold temperature and keep moving till I locate some food, or perish in my endeavor.
*Says a small prayer to The Prince of Wolves for endurance and longevity before leaving the cave. Returns back a few hours later from his search, relieved and with some new-found energy*
*scribing is once again even and mostly legible *
My prayers have been answered! I was searching for tracks just over the knoll where I discovered the deer before when my eyesight caught movement of a tall man-like creature walking with a severed deer leg slung over its shoulder in the distance. I needed to get that leg from the creature but I knew a melee attack would not be wise in my fragile condition. I knew I could only manage enough strength to draw my bow only once, so my arrow placement would have to be fatal with one shot or it would be my demise. The creature never heard me close in the distance behind him, and I waited till the white hair-laden creature was a safe range from me before kneeling in the snow to knock an arrow. I had to decide which shot to take to incapacitate the foe and drop him where he stood. I decided on a direct heart shot to quickly empty the blood flow through the creature. I took a deep breath and struggled to bring the bow to full draw. I let out a quick yelp to reveal my position, turning the creature around towards me. It instantly charged me in a vicious rage. I composed myself, and bore my eyesight into its chest area. The arrow penetrated deep, with crimson blood spilling out from the wound. The creature kept running at me, until the embedded arrow finally took its toll. The beast collapsed just in front of me, exhaling its final breath of air.
I fell over in the snow and thanked Longstrider for my poise and execution of the attack. I went to claim my bounty and with a big smile, knelt down next to the recently severed fresh deer leg. Ripping my skinning knife from its sheath, I carved off a nice hunk of the still warm deer meat away and savored every bite. I sat down to my banquet, when my mind and body started to feel a sense of well-being again after consuming the fresh meat. My senses were coming back to me and I began to feel somewhat content then, knowing that my food and hunger predicaments have abated. I hoisted the deer leg over my shoulder and headed back to the cave with new-found inspiration and resilience.
Even though I have no wood to cook this deer meat, the raw flesh will give me the energy I will need for the long journey home. At mid-day tomorrow, my survival training will be complete. I shall head south for Raven's Watch to sail me back to Leringard. I just have to last through the night without a fire again, but the deer meat will alleviate some of that burden.
*After a hearty meal of deer meat, he props himself against the cave wall for the night, hoping that he will last through the cold night so that he can finally depart this merciless environment tomorrow*

*Shadowleaf's eyes peel open to the sight that morning has come. He sits up and is overcome by liberation, knowing that he has survived through the long cold night. He ponders the trials and tribulations he has overcome on his training exercise.*
*He opens his journal and begins scribing.*
Day 7
The day has finally arrived! I have survived the arduous 7 days up here and will be leaving for Raven's Watch soon. Through the course of this training, I feel that I have become stronger, both mentally and physically. I have been shown that even when you think you have nothing left to give, there is always something still left inside that will get you through your current ordeal. My only regret is that my father would never know I have passed his test in survival training.
*Stops scribing for a moment as a tear forms at the bottom of his eyelid before laying his quill back down to scribe his final words of the entry.*

*The tear falls from his eye, hitting the page as he is closing his journal*
*He starts to break camp and pack for the trip. Shadowleaf discerns by the sun's position halfway across the sky that the time to go home has finally arrived. He eats a healthy portion of deer meat before storing some in his pack for the trip home. He leaves the cave exactly how he found it the first day he discovered it 7 days prior with no evidence that anyone was ever there. He covers his tracks leaving the cave and begins his long journey south back toward Raven's Watch, traveling hard by day and night through Shivering Pass, staying in the shadows to conceal his movements. He reaches Raven's Watch and boards a ship set to sail for Leringard.
The ship approaches Leringard's inner harbor on Gateway, Autumn Dark 8. His eyes focus on the sight of his Forest Rose sitting out on the dock. She notices him waving to her from the deck and hops to her feet waving back to him with excitement. He anxiously waits for the ship's crew to throw the ropes and tie the ship off to the dock.
The gangplank drops and Shadowleaf quickly exits the ship, smiling intently as he walks up to Feawen. She hands him a red rose and says "Welcome home my Leaf, I have been waiting for your return my Love".
They embrace in a lasting affectionate hug with Shadowleaf leaning back slightly, lifting her off the dock before setting her back down and kissing her on the forehead as he does.
He looks to her saying "You are what my eyes have longed to see, but how did you know of when I would return?" .
Smiling to him, she answers, "I have been in Leringard for a few days now; I estimated your approximate return date by when Chess came to me that day with your letter and I am so delighted to see that my Leaf has returned home safe".
Shadowleaf looks to her saying "Come my Love, let me tell you of my travels up in the mountain ranges of Krashin". They leave the dock with their hands gently entangled, strolling to the nearest Inn to share a hot bowl of stew together*

I once heard that good things come in small packages. Yesterday I found out there is truth to that saying.
I was in Hlint filling my canteen at the well when this tiny lady approached me.
Looking to her I said. "Ello' little lady, how are you on this fine evening?"
"Very well, thank you sir. My name is Daniella Smallnose". She replied in kind.
"Nice to meet you miss, my name is Shadowleaf, but my friends call me "Leaf".
We conversed near the well for a few minutes becoming acquainted with one another. She then told me of her husband Dweeble and she asked me if I would travel with her to meet him. Daniella led me to the secluded area in the wastelands that travelers seem to keep the fire going for others to warm themselves and rest for a while on their journeys.
Dweeble came from around a tree, running up to us and could just not seem to stand still. The little man kept moving about in a bizarre manner from side to side in hasty manner. Damiella said to her husband "hun hun, this is Shadowleaf". He finally stopped moving and I offered my hand in friendship, with him grasping it and shaking it vigorously in a positive reception. I thought this little fellow was a bit odd, but after speaking with him, I liked his persona. Daniella mentioned that she had seen some goblins moving over on the distant hills. I told them that I could take a look from a safe distance and gather what our opposition was that night. They both agreed we me on that plan. They both then told me of their fondness of precious gems and minerals and were always looking for the sparkle in the rocks. I gathered my pack and bow from the ground and made ready for the journey with The Smallnoses both preparing themselves for any potential battles in the hills.
I informed them that I might be able to get some help to come along with us. They both nodded in acceptance to my suggestion with enthusiasm. I went over to the wood line and stood listening in the deep woods for a few seconds. I heard Dweeble lean over to his lady saying to her "Ummm..what is he doing hun hun?"
I yelled out in my native dialect, "GROM! I need your help my friend!" The Smallnoses looked at me a bit awkward as I did. Then we heard trampling through the woods with underbrush breaking and snapping as the sounds grew louder and louder. An explosion from the woods reveled Grom had come to my call.
Dweeble immediately yelled "BEAR!!!", and took off running for the hills as fast as his diminutive legs could carry him. Daniella locked still, and tried to compose her fear, standing nervously looking at me with a makeshift smile. I noticed her fear and went to show her that he is kind and gentle to my friends. "Miss Daniella, he will not harm my friends, come let me show you", I said to her. I guided Daniella over to Grom sitting a few yards away. I took her hand and gently guided it to Grom. He sniffed her hand then licked it a few times till she giggled and pulled it away slightly. She looked to me saying "He is a nice bear isn't he, I would be happy to have his company with us, but we better go find Dweeble. I think he is quite scared and could still be running and might be somewhere near Krandor by now". She looked worried, so it was time to head out.
The three of us quickly left the fire to go in search for Dweeble. We came up to one of the outlying hills, hearing an audible of, "BEAR!! BEAR!!" up on the hill top. We looked up on the hilltop to see Dweeble hiding, well, what he thought was hiding behind a tree, trembling in fear. Daniella said to him that all is ok and Grom is a friend. Dweeble was not accepting Daniella's explanation saying "No,No,No, That's not good!" and stayed behind the thin tree. Daniella went up and calmed Dweeble down saying softly to him "hun hun, It's ok, Grom is nice bear, please come meet him". Dweeble replied to Daniella "Ok hun hun, I trust your feelings but I am very nervous, don't your remember that bears eat Gnomes!" She leaned over to her Love and spoke soft whispers in his ear. Dweeble was a bit mesmerized by Daniella's speaking in that tone and relaxed as she did. He was now finally ready to meet Grom.
Grom approached and sat before him, making Dweeble freeze. Dweeble waited a few seconds before extending his hand in greeting Grom. I had told Grom after leaving the fire to be extra nice to Dweeble because he was scared and nervous from him. Grom moved his head slowly to Dweeble and gave his hand a few licks, making Dweeble withdraw his hand quickly in fear saying "See! He wants to eat me!" I replied back to Dweeble "That was just Groms way of greeting someone that he likes and that he accepts them as a friend. He means you no harm Dweeble".
He moved his hand forward to Grom once again, this time leaving it out for Grom's greeting. Grom slowly moved to nuzzle his head under Dweeble's hand. Dweeble looked to me with question with his eyes. I told him that Grom likes it when friends pet him behind his ears. Dweeble, trying to show courage in front of Mrs. Smallnose, petted Grom with a forced smile. Dweeble and Grom had a quiet moment together, while the little Daniella and I smiled to one another knowing that all was ok now with Dweeble again.
We all headed for the cave to search for gems. Those two do love their gems!
We entered a hostile environment with the goblins attacking us as soon as we entered the cave. We dispatched the foes and started our downward decent cautiously. We worked as a team that night searching for the precious stones down every corridor searching many veins. Grom and Dweeble were fighting along side one another in harmony and I even saw Grom snag a goblin by the neck before he got to Dweeble's unguarded flank during one attack. I was so proud of Grom for having protected our new friend. We did find a few of the shiny stones before exiting the cave and back to the fire for some well deserved rest and water.
We put all our coins together by the fire that each of us pulled from the fallen foes into one pile and counted them. Then we divided it amongst all of us equally while Grom rolled around in the grass in a playful manner nearby.
The Smallnoses thanked Grom and I for the help and hoped that we could travel again. Dweeble walked up to Grom and hugged him around the neck, thanking him for grabbing that goblin that was about to drive his short sword deep into his side earlier. Daniella and Dweeble waved goodbye to us and made their way towards Hlint just before nightfall.
Grom and I enjoyed some venison steaks by the fire till darkness fell and it was time to head for home.

I feel that I am finally getting the feel for two blades in my hands now. I am starting to feel the balance with both blades better, and wielding them as one weapon. I cannot even remember the last time I carried my wooden shield over my back in my adventures. The shield was providing some protection from incoming attacks, but I felt like it was restricting my strikes and counter attack moves.
I started seriously training with both blades about two months ago when one day I went and purchased a few used cloaks and some old rope and made my way to a quiet place in the forest. I tied the cloaks securely around a tree and began to practice different strikes at it with my blades. The training session was long and exhaustive, but balance started to fill my arms as I preformed different strikes, lunges, and mock counter attacks at my custom built training dummy. I trained multiple attacks from many different angles and positions for hours and hours until my arms could not even bring my blades back to parallel with the ground anymore. I sat down and grabbed my canteen for some much needed thirst reduction. I rested while eating some fruit and berries for some energy before beginning my second training session of that day.
I moved the cloak padding down on the tree to the height of average beings legs, than secured them tightly to the tree once again. I needed to gain more practice and confidence with making multiple disabling low strikes. I lowered my battle stance and started my attacks. I noticed that I was slightly faster with my right arm then my left, so I made a few adjustments in the cadence in which I wielded my short swords. I discovered that I could perform a powerful low sweeping attack if I led the attack with my left sword instead of my right. I practiced that particular move for some time until the flows of my attacks were fluent and the strikes were true and accurate.
Battle has been the best trainer yet though, whacking against a tree is good for learning and practicing new moves and attack routines, but it does not offer the element of surprise nor potential counter attacks to parry off.
I do feel that I have to purchase a real training dummy soon though; the training sessions have been taking its toll on my blades. I have to sharpen the blades after every session now with my wet stone. The cloaks offered some resistance, but my swords will weaken over time if I keep training like this.

I had talked to Enzo last Dead Eye about coming to look at some bows at his Bow shop. He told me that I could stop by anytime and see what he has to offer. I made my way to his shop this afternoon and knocked on the door. I heard approaching footsteps from inside, then an audible of "Yes, who is it?".
"Shadowleaf A'nadivian" I answered. The door creaked opened to a friendly man who introduced himself as "Thomas". Thomas invited me into the shop and said "Mr. Enzo will be with in just a moment Sir". "Thank you, Thomas", I replied in kind as Thomas then went back behind the desk to tend to some paperwork.
Enzo walked out from the back chambers and said to me "Ah Leaf, glad to see that you could come and see my Bow shop and Range".
"Shop and Range Sir?", I stressed the word "Range" with a furrowed brow at him.
Enzo pointed behind me and I turned to view in that direction. My eyes were amazed that Enzo's Bow shop included a full indoor bow range off to the side. We walked over and I viewed the large room. The shot distance the range offered was quite extended and even had closer targets to practice on.
"Very nice range you have here Sir". I said to Enzo.
"Thanks Leaf. Now, you said you wanted to look at some bows correct?" he replied.
"Yes, I would like to see what you have to offer and at what price". I answered him.
He went and opened up a few large chests that had many bows and other equipment in them. He said I should take my time and inspect all bows carefully, because I may not yet have the archery skills learned to wield some of the bows in these chests. I started to select a few bows out of the chests and drew back the strings a few times to get a feel of the limbs strength. I found one that felt comfortable and that I could manage to make a full draw on.
"May I take a few shots Sir". I asked Enzo politely.
"Be my guest Ranger". Enzo replied, motioning for me to walk to the range.
I shot a few arrows and liked the feel of the bow in my hands.
"Very fine weapon Sir, but how much would this bow sell for?" I asked.
Enzo did not know just from memory what that particular bows current price was, so we walked back over the counter and Enzo asked Thomas for some paperwork from under the counter. Enzo said to me that I could take a look around at some of his other items while he looks up the cost of the bow, so I did just that. He did have some very nice items and equipment but most I could not afford at this time. Enzo found the listing of the bow and said what the price was. I was disappointed when I knew it would take me some time to collect the needed True for the purchase of the bow and I informed Enzo of it. Enzo asked me to show him the bow I currently carry. I took the bow from around my back and laid it on the counter for him to examine. He looked it over and drew it back a few times.
"Seems like a solid stick and string you got here..., Fehriel's work?" He looked to me with question.
"Yes, the craftsmanship is that of Fehriel". I answered him.
"Maybe you do not need a new bow yet Leaf, I might have something that could transport a little more velocity behind your arrows", he informed me.
"That is all I am really looking for Sir, a little deeper penetration of my arrows from long distances" I said.
"I think I can do something for you, do you have a few minutes?" He asked me.
"Yes Sir, I am in no hurry, Ill just keep looking around your shop if you don't mind?" I said.
"Please do, It will not take long for me to add the parts" He replied.
Enzo asked Thomas to hand him some parts and tools from behind the counter. He started modifying the riser to accommodate the new parts, constantly checking the level of the riser and the mobility of the moving parts.
After a short while, Enzo said "There, that should do it".
He handed me the bow and we walked back over the range to try out the new modifications. The draw weight was heavier now but I was able to get the bow to full draw. I launched a few arrows down range and even broke the knock of one of the arrows I just recently shot. The arrows released with much more kinetic energy now and were flying with more of a flat trajectory and with improved penetration power.
I smiled to Enzo and said "Nice work Sir, I like the feel of the new parts".
"I am glad to hear that Leaf, you will notice a difference now in your shot penetrations". He replied.
We both walked back over to the counter and I paid him the cost for the new parts and thanked Enzo for the modifications to my bow and said goodbye to him and Thomas before leaving shop to head home.

The last few days have been somewhat sad for me. I had to travel to Port Hempstead recently to bid my final farewell to friend, a man by the name of Benjamin Poetr.
I had befriended Ben about a year ago and had traveled with him on a few adventures. One found memory I have of Ben is the time we headed back to Fort Wayfare after a long journey one evening. He invited me into his embedded home. We made our way over by the fire place and he plopped down into a soft chair and said that I should also rest before I headed back home.
We sat and conversed over some pie that he had graciously presented to me, talking well into the night, laughing and both enjoying each other's company. I listened to him tell some stories of his past adventures which kept my attention with him the entire time. It was starting to get late and Ben was looking tired. I had just finished my last bite of pie when I looked over to him to say thanks for the hospitality, with Ben already having drifted off into a deep slumber. I whispered "Thanks my friend", and tossed a blanket over him before I quietly left his home. I did not know that would be the last time I would see Ben alive.
I arrived in Hempstead for the service to see many of Ben's family and friends in attendance. I did not know previously that another Angel member Sonya Darsus had fallen also, and this was to be a combined farewell service. I walked past the pond to see poor Lana trying to hold back her grief the best she could as I went to her to offer my sincere condolences. She was very pleased that so many of Ben's friends had come to pay their respects for him.
Daniel strolled out from around the tent and his equanimity was not that of a man who had just lost his father. Daniel did not show any signs of sorrow in his eyes and remained strong for the other surviving Poetr kin the entire service. Bella stayed close by Daniel's side as many friends came to say sorry to him about the recent loss of his father.
A man by the name of Shiff Dragonheart addressed the crowd and said some meaningful words about his friend that day. He spoke of past adventures with Ben and all that they have been through together, the great battles and their long demanding journeys.
The service was said to be a celebration for their lives, but as I looked upon all the sorrow in others faces, mine included, it was hard to bring forth a smile at that time. Soon the conversations went silent as everyone started approaching the pyre to lay their bouquet of flowers for the fallen, with Daniel and a few others giving a few blessings afterwards. Miss Zira was having a very hard time with the loss of her friends and the tears of mourning were streaming down her face, thankfully her brother Zak was there to soothe her in her time of need.
Miss Ferrit and the Angel's Guild supplied the food and drink for the service and there was even some left over. Missus Ferrit handed me a bottle of wine when the service had ended and everyone was beginning to leave, saying "Here take this bottle of wine Leaf, I do not want to have to bring all this stuff back to the guild". Then she handed out a few more leftovers to others as they departed. The wine is a fine vintage. I am saving it for a special occasion, and I know just who I am going to share it with too.
Everyone in a sad state of mind left the area and went back to their homes for the night.
I will miss my friend Ben, he was good man.

Well, all my hard work has finally paid off. I am able to afford a room that I can store the items that I collect on my adventures and use as a future training area.
I acquired the room from a dear friend of mine. Her name is Elohanna. She is a strikingly beautiful sun elf with a smile that could part seas. Her heart is as dear as my mother's, always making sure her friends are well cared for before thinking of herself. She had informed me that one of her former tenants had left and she had a room that has become available if I needed one.
I went to her residence in Fort Llast to meet with her and view the room she had for rent. She opened the door and welcomed me into her lovely spacious home.
Elly showed me around her house so I would feel comfortable. We started in the Great room that held a large piano and some comfortable sittings for company next to a constantly crackling fireplace. A door from the room led into the dining area and kitchen. As I entered the area, the aroma that filled the air made my mouth instantly water with anticipation of what was currently in the oven. Elly smiled to me and said "I am baking some pies right now" and informed me that if I should take the room, I would be welcome to help myself to some of her meals and baked goods that she leaves out for guests and tenants from time to time. That alone made me almost take the room immediately, but I would need to see what I would be paying for on a monthly basis first before accepting her offer.
She led me upstairs and opened one of the doors. The room was plain, but that's all I was really looking for. I walked around the room examining the space and the distance between opposite walls. I looked to her and said "I will take it Milady".
She smiled and said "That is great to hear Leaf, come with me, I have some furniture in storage that I am not using and you are welcome to anything that you think might be useful to you".
"Thank you Elly" I said to her as we walked to view the furniture pieces she had in storage. There were a few large storage chests that I thought would come in handy, so I dragged them out and set them up along the walls. The room was beginning to take shape now. I will have to place a few plantings in the corners to offset the rigidity of the stone walls. The foliage should soften the appearance of the room a bit I think.
In time, this room will also become a great training aid for me. I shall purchase some training dummies and once they have been installed, it will be very beneficial for me and my blades. The room might be to short for any distance arrow shots but I can set up a target close and practice my quick release shots.
Elly handed me the room key and escorted me to the front door. I thanked her for the room along with her hospitality, saying to her that if she was ever in need of any fire wood to warm her home or some fresh venison for her table, I would be more then happy to collect them for her. Her scrumptious pies alone would keep me hauling wood there all day long if needed.
We talked briefly about our families at the front door, till I left for the night to retrieve my hidden items in the forests and bring them back for safe storage in my new room.

I had asked my Forest Rose many months ago to introduce me to the type of fishing that requires a wooden pole, line and some sort of bait. In my gratitude, I would cook her a nice dinner. I could not imagine fishing without my bow, but she said that this type of fishing was so much fun, I agreed to let her show me this new technique. Our dissimilar paths finally converged and provided us the opportunity for our fishing trip.
I purchased the items Feawen instructed to me to obtain: a fishing pole, line and some hooks. I took the next ship to Alindor to meet Feawen. She told me that there was great fishing in Stone and I was to make my way there once I landed on Alindor.
I noticed my Love strolling through the Falls Forest heading towards Stone. I sneaked up behind her before she noticed me, startling her with a playful tickle to her side which made her slightly jump.
She turned to me smiling as said "Hello, my Love, I am so glad you found me".
Taking Feawen by the hand I said "I saw you walking across the forest from a distance my sweet. From the minute I entered this forest, my heart told me you were nearby and I began to search for you. Okay, my dear, will you show me this fishing with a pole and bait".
"I will be happy to, my Leaf". She replied kindly.
We walked into Stone hand-in-hand. Stone is town mostly comprised of rock with treacherous steep cliffs with a few homes dotting the peaks. We had to cross a narrow rock bridge to reach the other side. Feawen said that this is where it got tricky, so I would need to watch my footing on the slippery narrow ledge. That ledge wasn't so bad to navigate, but now we had to climb down a moistened slippery rock face with only a few footholds to be seen. Feawen showing no fear at all, descended without hesitation. I watched her feet land safely back on flat ground again before descending myself. Once I was down, we made our way over to the water's edge.
"We have to swim over to that Island out there Love", she said to me, pointing out to a small Island.
"No problem. Can I carry your belongings for you" I asked her.
"Thank you, my Leaf. That is so sweet of you" She replied
Feawen handed me her small pack and another bag that I had not seen her carry before.
"What is in this bag?"I asked with question, holding the sack up.
"You will soon see, my Love. Please do not get that one wet, okay?" she implored.
"I promise I will not. Do be safe in the water, my Love" I reminded her protectively.
Feawen jumped in the water and quickly swam out to the small Island. I held up our backpacks and the other bag of hers before I jumped in, making sure they did not go under the water as I did. I used one arm to swim and the other to hold our gear above the waterline. It was a hard swim, but I was happy to do it for my Rose.
We both stood on the Island, soaked and dripping wet. I did not want Feawen to become ill, so I said I would get a fire going so we could dry off and get warm. She went and grabbed her bag and said that she would need a moment, before walking behind the large boulder out of my eye sight. I did not think anything of it, and went on to getting the fire started. I packed a small amount of fire wood to bring on the trip to hopefully have a shore lunch of a freshly caught fish. I quickly changed into some dry clothes that I brought with me before Feawen came back out from behind the boulder.
I was fumbling through my pack when I heard an unsure voice from behind me "I bought this just for you my Love".
As I turned around, my breath caught momentarily. There stood the most beautiful visage my eyes had ever seen. The graceful gown complemented Feawen's soft features, and she was at once delicate and regal, vulnerable, yet capable.
My gaze started low on her and rose upwards taking in every inch of her loveliness. When our eyes met, she appeared confident but a little uncertain of her new attire.
"Words cannot begin to describe your beauty", that is a stunning dress, my Love" I said to her, awestruck.
"I am glad you are fond of it, my Love. I could not decide on the right color pattern". She replied to me.
"You are quite breathtaking in that dress my dear" and walked up to give her a big reassuring hug, letting her know that I loved her outfit selection for our dinner together.
I took out the fishing pole, line and tackle. Feawen came to me and started showing me how to tie the string to the end of the pole and the hook on the end. She went to her pack and grabbed a small can with some dirt in it. A little puzzled with the dirt-filled can, I wondered what she was up to. She dug her fingers into the dirt and produced a vibrant wiggly worm.
"What is the worm for, my Love?" I asked.
She secured the worm to the hook and said for me to throw the line into the water. I did just as she instructed, throwing my line out as far as I could.
"Now we wait, my Leaf" She said.
We sat down and began to talk of past adventures. A few minutes went by and my pole started dancing in my hands slightly.
Feawen said "There, Leaf! Set the hook, my Love!"
I yanked back on the pole, but only to reveal a wet hook on the end of the line.
Feawen said to me, chucking a little as she did, "That one got away Dear. When you feel the fish tugging on the end of the line, that is when you need to jerk the pole back and set the hook okay? Here, let's get you another worm".
With another lively worm on the hook, I casted out my offering. Again, the fish took the bait - and again, and again. I looked to Feawen in frustration, saying to her "Please Love, just let me use my arrows".
She had nothing to do with my complaining and quickly baited another worm on the hook for me.
"I am not going to let you give up! Keep trying, my Leaf"
We sat back down and we continued our conversation. I feel like I can talk to Feawen about anything, whether it be happy or sad. She always uplifts my spirit when I am feeling gloomy with her reassuring words and soft touch. Each moment we share together, I feel that we become more as a whole.
I was feeling a little down that night about my training. I felt like my skills were not developing as strongly as they should be. Feawen put her arm around me and began to speak her gentle words of wisdom in my ear. She spoke the word "patience" often to me that night. After a while, I began to realize that my outlook on my training was too grand. She let me know that my training would progress as long as I kept my sessions active and often. I thanked Feawen for her guidance with a kiss to her cheek.
"LEAF!" she yelled to me, motioning to my fishing pole wildly trying to exit my hands.
I grasped the pole and yanked back with the front end of pole going straight to the water.
"You got him, Love! Now, take your time and work the fish over to the edge" Feawen said, cheering me on in the process.
I played the fish and maneuvered it to within arms reach of the ledge, then bent down to grab it by the gills. I hoisted the large fish out of the water, with Feawen jumping up and down in excitement as I did. Feawen could not contain her enthusiasm, hugging me, saying "You did it Love!"
"I could have not done it without your instructions my dear", I said to her thankfully.
I looked at the heavy fish and asked her what species it was. She said that the fish was known as a "Salmon" and they make great table fare.
"Terrific! Dinner with be ready shortly, my Love", I informed her.
Feawen went over and sat by the fire to meditate in her thoughts for a few minutes, while I went to my pack to fetch my skinning knife and get started cleaning the fish. I prepared the fish and rinsed the insides well. I cut off some thick fillets, throwing the remaining skeleton back into the water afterwards. I grabbed the salt and pepper, along with some of the herbs from my pack. I rubbed the spices and herbs on the fish diligently. I skewered the fillets through a long stick making sure they were secure as I did. I walked over to the fire having noticed that Feawen had come out of her meditative trance. The fillets let out a sizzle when I placed them over the hot flames.
Feawen moved herself closer to me and said that she appreciated all that I do for her. I said to her that I love to take care of her when I get the chance. She put her arm around me and started to rub my shoulders and neck.
"Your muscles are tense, my Love. Here, let me take that stress from you" she said.
She turned me around so my back faced her. She started rubbing my neck and shoulders with her petite but strong hands. I felt my head become heavy with relaxation and I let it fall forward to let her work out the tension in my neck. My entire body was becoming relaxed and I heard Feawen say to me "Lie back, my Love; let me relieve the pressure that flows through your body".
I leaned back into her and let the tension begin to vacate my body. She seemed to know the structure of every muscle in my neck and shoulders to which she tended, massaging each one a little bit differently. I felt like I was beginning to melt in her lap until a trail of smoke went past my eyes and filled my nose.
"O MY!"I said, and I quickly removed the fish from the fire, as it was starting to burn.
Luckily, I did not ruin our dinner. It was time for me to add my special glaze to the fillets now. I smashed up some fresh raspberries into a thick paste and rubbed it over the fillets before placing them back on the fire to finish cooking.
I extracted two plates, forks and goblets from my pack along with some fruit, berries and nuts to go with our meal. I also brought a very fine bottle of wine that I had been saving, which I received from Missus Ferrit after Ben Poetr's funeral sometime ago. I wanted this to be a very special dinner for Feawen and I, and I wanted everything to be just right. I made sure my plate presentation rivaled that of a fine Inn. The meal consisted of a raspberry glazed Salmon fillet, assorted berries, fruits, nuts with some clover leaves on the sides for added color.
I poured Feawen a goblet of the wine after handing the dinner to her. I sat by my sweet after getting my own plate of food. She leaned over and kissed me on the cheek, asking "Why do you do so much for me, my Leaf?"
"Because I want to see you happy, my Love, and to know that you are eating well and stay healthy", I replied to her.
We enjoyed our meal together by the fire, conversing about many things as we ate. I have to say that the fish was good; the small amount of char actually added some extra flavor, making it very tasty. After we finished our dinner, I asked her if she would like some dessert. Feawen's quick smile answered my question. I unwrapped a few pieces of pie I had brought - one apple and the other blueberry. I offered my Love the first choice. She chose the apple, which I was glad because I really wanted the blueberry. The pie was delicious and we consumed every last crumb. We both were stuffed and becoming slightly lethargic from all the food.
I cleared the plates and cleaned up. Feawen said that I needed to come and sit by her. She took my hand saying "I cannot thank you enough for such a lovely dinner, my Love".
"I am glad you enjoyed yourself, my Love. Seeing you content is all that I wish" I said, sated.
"When I am with you, my Leaf, I could not be more content", she said smiling to me.
We looked deeply into each other's eyes before we found our bodies slowly leaning toward each other. My heart started pounding as we moved closer. I think our eyes both closed at the same time, and then..... a magical moment happened between us. Our lips gently pressed together for a few moments.
After the kiss, we both smiled to one another almost giggling. I then felt her lean into me, pushing my torso to the ground, and finally cuddling up beside me laying her head on my chest. We were so comfortable in each other's arms that night that we ended up falling asleep together out on that Island until morning.

Father said to me one day in training, that if I ever learned to craft my own arrows it would advance me even further as an archer, saying that if I could learn to balance the arrow shafts to fit my individual shooting style, I would notice a tighter grouping in my shots. Using different combinations of lumber, feathers and ores for arrowheads, I could make a diverse selection of arrows to use in battle.
I have been a woodsman for some time now, but never thought about using some of the wood I harvest to craft my own arrows until just recently when I remembered Da's training lesson that long time ago.
I have found Hickory the easiest to work with, I can follow the grain on that wood clearly with my precision cuts, and it seems to be forgivable on my miss cuts. It did take more then a few tries at the hall to create my first useable arrow shafts. To check for the straightness of the shafts, I found that if I placed them one at a time on the table and rolled them back and forth a few times, I could tell if the wood shaft was worthy of keeping for an arrow. If I saw no oscillation as it rolled, I knew the shaft would fly true and straight, something an archer wishes for in every shot. Now that I have learned the basics of making balanced wooden shafts, I will keep working at it till I can make them without failure.
Soon, I will go in search for some ore to collect for making the arrowheads, but it can dangerous down in caves alone. I must be cautious in my explorations or seek the help of friends.

The wood working is coming along very well. I have gained knowledge of some good stands of Hickory in my travels. I am breaking fewer axes these days and my cuts are becoming less faulty with practice. There was one thing that was keeping my wood working skills from progressing though. The distance I traveled with a full pack of wood that I harvested was extended, as the only wood working house I have been able to locate is in Port Hempstead.
The journeys with just one backpack of loaded timber were gaining me little in return for so much time and effort spent traveling back and forth between Hempstead and the Hickory stands that stood far to the north. I couldn't carry anymore wood then I was already, as it would have slowed my pace of travel and that becomes dangerous and would not be wise.
I overheard, that a man outside of Port Hempstead's main gates sold pack Oxen, so I went to view the animals and inquire what his asking price was for an Oxen. A tiny man named Dornick stood standing outside the holding pen, informed me that one Oxen would cost one hundred true coins to obtain. I thought about it and that seemed like a fair asking price, with asking him in return if I may go have a closer look at the Oxen. He nodded to me and motioned for me to go take a look with a quick wave of his hand.
Most of the Oxen were just milling around, chewing on the grass below them. I noticed one Oxen keeping to himself near the fence, so I went over to the animal. The Oxen lifted its head and looked up at me, as I laid my hand on its head gently. I talked in a low toned voice to it, not knowing if it understood what I was saying. I began to rub and pet the Oxen as I quietly whispered to the animal for a few minutes. I started to sense that this animal liked me standing by his side, so I looked him in the eyes for a few seconds to confirm my assumptions. You can tell a lot about animals and even people if you look deeply into their eyes and see what lies behind them.
I knew this animal was strong and would grant me some much needed help to carry the wood I harvested. I am rather glad to lead at least one Oxen out of that pen from that dirty little man. The food and water for the Oxen seemed to have been left for days without change. I thought to myself that I would keep this Ox healthy, strong and not subject him to such unsanitary conditions. I already knew that his nutrition would have to be hearty and sustaining so I would prepare him feedbags of rolled Oats, Barley and crushed corn kernels for his diet along with many rest days just grazing in the fields to keep him healthy and happy. I will also give him fresh water daily to keep him hydrated in his endeavoring journeys with me.
I went and offered the man his True and he handed me a few lead ropes and some old packs and said that they came with the Pack Ox purchase. I securely lashed the packs on the Ox and led him away back to Hlint. I wanted to see if he had the endurance for the long lumber collecting journeys back and forth between Hempstead and the outskirts of Hlint. The Oxen never slowed me down once, except to stop occasionally for some feed and water, but keeping him happy and healthy is important to me.
I wanted to name this Oxen something other then just Oxen, so I thought of names for days. Then, it came to me. This Oxen, will be doing lots of hauling for me. I thought the name "Duey" appropriately fit him...and he seems to like his new name now.

World Tree, Summer Run 21, 1463

Krandor is small peaceful town with a gentle shore breeze always present. I like to visit from time to time, as I can make a quick stop there for some rest and supplies, as Duey and I travel back and forth between Port Hempstead and Hlint.
As I walked the main road in Krandor, I noticed many announcements tacked to boards in town. The announcements read that Krandor was building a hospital to provide healing and safe house for those who would be in need of such care. The hospital plans to also conduct research into poisons, diseases, illnesses and conditions in order to provide cures and better treatments, while promoting works of beauty and music as healing of the spirit. The hospital will build wards for the sick along with two operating theatres for extreme measures. One wing will have also have a guild section, library and dormitory for young healers and musicians to stay while they offer their healings and blessings to the sick and wounded.
The announcements only had one name associated with it, Galathea Arnaduillae. The hospital will be privately funded by this lady and other charity donations. She extended her gratitude to all who could offer anything to benefit the hospital and was currently seeking stewards of the hospital. I thought to myself that the hospital could gain from a different form of healing not widely known, and went to seek out this woman to inform her of my thoughts.
I noticed a man who sketching some rough drawings near the proposed construction site. I asked him if he knew of a lady by the name of Galathea Arnaduillae. He said that he did in fact know her, but she was currently away from Krandor on business. I went and sat by the shore's edge, pulled out a piece of parchment and my quill from my pack and began scribing a letter to Miss Galathea, telling her of my thoughts after reading the hospital's construction announcement. While I was scribing that letter I had a vision come to me, which I included in the letter.
Galathea,
I always try to help a sick or injured animal if I happen to come upon one. I also know that "healing" does not only come from rest,
medicines, songs and blessings but can also come from the soothing nature of petting a soft furry animal.
I have seen this calming effect first hand on the sick and elderly in my travels.
I would be willing to bring a few of my animal friends to the hospital every so often, and take them to the sick people
in the wards to have some quiet healing time just relaxing while petting and interacting with my friends.
The only compensation that I would require for my time, would be that if I ever do find a sick or injured animal,
I would be allowed to bring it to the hospital to be healed and rest till it was back to full strength.
If I see that the animals are providing some healing to the admitted patients, I would ask the hospital in time build a small separate
wing for the sick and hurt animals of Mistone. I would be willing to supply most of the wood and other building supplies needed for the
addition also if needed.
Not many folks seem to care about the domesticated animals on Mistone and I would like to change that and educate them
that animals need someone to look out for them and try to spot their diseases in their early
stages before it spreads throughout the lands of Mistone potentially polluting the food and water sources.
Shadowleaf A'nadivian
I went and handed the sealed letter to the man who was now walking around, surveying the proposed hospital site while sketching out some plans. I asked him to give the letter to Miss Arnaduillae as soon as she returned from her business affairs.
I received a reply from Galathea the other day, thanking me for my interest in becoming a steward of the hospital and she looked forward to sitting down with me and listen to my ideas for the hospital's future animal shelter expansion.
I know it will require a vast amount of construction materials and take many many long hard hours to construct the shelter, but someone has to stand up for the ones who cannot speak on their own behalf, and I will be the one to do so.
I felt a strong surge in motivation to start making my vision come true for my furry friends that day, and led Duey back in the direction of Hlint to begin in making this dream become a reality.

I was walking through the Stormcrest Crossroads on my way to the Dapplegreen forests recently, when I noticed an unfamiliar Elf practicing archery on the local target. I approached from off to the side and stood watching him for a while. His posture was good, and his follow through was fluent and steady. This Elf definitely had some archery training in his past by the sight of his grouping downrange at the target.
Then he noticed me standing there and said "Irrace".
"Irrace, that was some nice shooting there friend, have you been practicing with a bow and arrow long?". I asked him.
"I have been training a while, not long though. I do love archery and plan to further my skills as an archer in the future". He informed me.
"Glad to hear this friend, my name is "Shadowleaf", but you can just call me "Leaf". I said to him.
"Nice to meet you Leaf, I am Sehky"
"Well met Sehky. May I practice with you?" I asked him.
"That would be great Leaf, I have been searching for someone to practice with, as I have just made camp near the Crossroads a short while ago. How often you come to the Crossroads?"He asked me.
"My travels take me through here quite frequently Sehky. I enjoy the tranquility in the Crossroads, plus it is a great place to hear a story from time to time next to the campfire over there under that big tree". I informed him.
"I have heard that Leaf, and hope to hear one myself someday. You may shoot first my friend" . He offered kindly.
"Thank you". I said.
We went and stood near the shack entrance about 30 yards from the archery target near the water's edge. I set my stance and let go a long cleansing breath, brought my bow up and steadied my aim, focusing my gaze, and let my arrow fly downrange to the target. The arrow struck just outside the inner circle, which I was somewhat pleased with.
"Nice shot" Sehky said to me.
"Always room form improvement though, my friend". As I looked back to him, saying, while knocking another arrow. I focused my stare and concentrated on the center of the circle and let the air go from my lungs to steady my aim. I released my shot with the arrow cutting inside the small circle this time, about a clenched fist distance from my first shot. My next few shots littered target around the arrow just inside circle, with half landing in the center.
"Very nice grouping Leaf!" Sehky said to me.
"Thanks my friend, now it is your turn". I said to him.
I walked from my position, offering it to Sehky. He took his stance and focused on the target down range, coming to full draw. His first shot, grazed the fletching on one my arrows on the target.
I snickered to him saying, "I suppose you meant to do that?"
He chuckled back to me replying, "Actually, I was aiming for the knock, but I missed".
Sehky started plugging arrows into the target one after another. His poise in his follow-through does not make his arrows wobble through the air in flight, as quickly shows in most non experienced archers. When the arrow wobbles through the air, the penetration power is lost on impact, which can create lengthy, drawn out battles. Sehky's arrows flew with a flat trajectory, which keeps his shots flying straight to its intended target led directly from his eyes. All of his shots landed well within the area of a small creature's chest area, which proved his training in archery.
"I like your technique Sehky, you see your shots, and do not simply just "aim" for them like most do. You view the shot from finish to end, even before your fingers have let go. We think alike I see, that is good". I said to him.
"Thanks Leaf, and Yes, I do believe we think and view archery alike" He replied.
We went and sat by the fire to replenish our fluids and consume a few berries before going back to training. I suggested that I would like to train in some extreme shot angles and we walked to a drastic angle to the target's face, almost standing on the bridge. This angle made the targets actual face area the length the size of a loaf of bread. I told Sehky that I was instructed by my father, that a true archer has to be confident in any shot that is presented to him.
We both made attempts at the tiny target area with a fair to hit ratio, with both of us practicing into the darkness and launching arrows to a barely noticeable target. We agreed to stop that night, when we started hearing our arrows skipping over the water past the archery target in darkness.
I needed to get back north for the night, with Sehky and I saying our farewells and making plans for future training sessions together. I usually do not trust most upon meeting them at first, but Sehky seems like a good Elf and our friendship will grow with time I believe. It will be nice to have an archery training partner now.

I have been thinking about my parents and home quite often lately. I had managed to block out the sorrow for a few years, but I find my mind torn over not knowing the fate of Ma' and Da'. I am starting to fear that I may never find the answer, as I do not even know which land I sailed from and where do I even begin to search?
*sighs* I must remain hopeful that someday, somehow, I will learn of the land I sailed from and the outcome of the Orc attack on my village. My heart tells me that my parents still exist, but with each passing year that feeling slightly fades from me. I must not let the unknown consume my thoughts and take over my well-being and I must remain mentally strong.
Feawen has been helping me get through my rough days with her reassuring words of hope. She is the only person that is able to calm me down and teach me patience, something I was having a hard time achieving on my own. Without her, I probably would have gone mad from the unknown by now.
I would be so happy if Ma' and Da' were able to meet my Beloved someday, I know they would love her as much as I. I guess only time will tell if that is even a possibility.

Sehky and I planned to meet outside the tavern at the Stormcrest Crossroads for practice. I arrived, noticing my friend slumped over on the bench looking fatigued. I went to him and asked what was wrong. He looked up to me and said
"Leaf, you are a welcome sight. I was just chased from Dapplegreen by a roaming patrol of goblins! I managed to give them the slip, but they were not far behind me when I ran from the forest. We better keep our guards up, my friend." He informed me.
Before I could question him about his recent encounter, a pack of goblins burst through the tree line and rushed our position. I did not have time to pull my bow from around my back, so my hands quickly unsheathed my blades. Sehky had already landed an arrow into the first attacker before it reached me, and I ended its life with a swift thrust of my blades to the chest region. Sehky and I fought off the remaining foes until we were the only ones left standing.
We composed ourselves after the skirmish and decided that we needed to investigate where the patrol had ventured from. After gathering our equipment and weapons, we headed for Dapplegreen. When we cleared the tower, Sehky and I spotted a few scouts on the hill scanning for movement through the forest. I secretively made my way closer to them so I could get a head count. I looked back over to Sehky, now hidden behind a tree, and put up three fingers to him, and he nodded in confirmation. I informed him of my intentions by gesturing with hand signals to him, letting him know that my plan was to take up position to the right of the scouts and when I initiate the attack, he should launch a crossfire assault from his position. Our attack was well-executed and none of the goblins left Dapplegreen alive.
We walked up and searched the bodies for some type of clue as to why the goblins were oddly present in Dapplegreen, but no such clue was found. I noticed that the ground just before the hill into the deep woods, displayed signs of a recent struggle. I moved close to the ground to examine the area for tracks and other signs while Sehky kept watch for wandering scouts and patrols. From what I could determine, there were about four to five sets of goblin tracks, along with an outline of something that had been dragged off into the woods. The fresh blood stains around the surrounding area were not a good sign.
"We must follow these tracks and find out what happened here, Sehky" I said.
"Yes, we must my friend, but let us travel close together in case the goblins have staged an ambush for unsuspecting adventurers" he replied.
"A fine idea Sehky. Let us proceed east, and move into the deep woods with caution not to alert any to our presence"
We moved through the woods at a snail's pace while I followed the tracks. The brush became very thick and impenetrable in some places and the tracks were becoming broken and hard to follow. I, unfortunately, lost the tracks in the wild underbrush even after many attempts to pick up the trail up again. Sehky and I continued through the forest to see if we could discover anything that would lead us to some answers about the blood-soaked ground at the wood's edge. We came to a secluded grove and stopped at the foliage transition line to scan the grove ahead. We moved along the stream while keeping out of sight. Sehky noticed a lone scout up ahead on the edge of a plateau. He crept up to a large tree no more then 20 yards from the scout without being detected. I made my way around the surrounding rocks and crawled up behind a large boulder down in front of the goblin. I looked back to Sehky to see him going to full draw and launching an arrow into the neck of the scout, sending the goblin toppling to the ground. Sehky hand-gestured to me that the scout had spotted our positions and was about to engage.
Since we had no idea what awaited us beyond on the plateau, we pulled back to the edge of the grove to regroup and devise a strategy. My ears detected the faint sounds of singing coming from back inside the deep woods. Sehky and I quickly made our way toward the sounds and noticed Andrew strolling through the woods, humming a melody. We were pleased to meet up with a friend, and I quickly told him of the recent events that led Sehky and I into this part of the deep woods. Andrew willingly offered to help us investigate the goblin disturbance and all of us headed back toward the grove. The three of us made our way to the bottom of the hill where Sehky and I had fallen back before. The first scout that Sehky had previously had taken out had now been discovered and additional scouts now occupied the border of the plateau in a heightened state of alert.
We held steady in our positions and remained motionless for some time until the scouts cleared the area. The goblins eventually left the area and as the time came for us to move up, we quickly ran to our next hiding spots. We poked our heads just above the crest of the plateau and noticed an unattended encampment with a large piece of meat still roasting over the fire. The area seemed clear and the scouts were nowhere to be seen, but we spread out to make sure of our assumptions and approached the encampment with caution. A few scouts returned back to the encampment without knowing of our presence and were quickly cut down upon entering.
Andrew and I secured the perimeter while Sehky went to search the tent. Sehky found some tattered clothes with blood stains throughout the garments. I inspected the roasting meat. The meat emitted an odor that almost made my stomach turn and was unfamiliar to me. I looked to Andrew and Sehky and they both had the same look on their faces. Andrew then said
"This meat did not come from an animal or beast...it is of human origin"
We heard the snap of a twig in the woods behind us and quickly turned around to view a woman staggering from the woods without much constitution left in her. We went and helped her over, and Andrew remained with her to steady her in her weakened state. She said her name was Mary and that she had managed to escape her recent imprisonment. We listened to her explain that she and her brother were captured by a goblin patrol in Dapplegreen near the tower. Her brother was dreadfully beaten and bloodied by the patrol and dragged off into the woods, and she was led away after her wrists were lashed together with some rope.
Andrew, Sehky and I looked to each other now knowing what was currently cooking over the fire and tried to distract Mary from the large piece of putrid charred meat. She started looking at the large roast with question, so Sehky and I stood in front of the meat, trying to block her view of it. It was too late, though. She suddenly realized that the large roast resembled a human torso and broke down into tears. Andrew quickly pulled her into his shoulder so she could release her shock and sorrow. The poor lady wept for some time knowing that her brother was dead.
We said that we would be happy to escort her safely from the grove. She kindly accepted our offer while wiping the tears from her eyes. Mary said that she had an Aunt Vehl who lived in Port Hempstead and that she would be most thankful if we could escort her to her house. Sehky took the lead and scouted our path ahead. Andrew helped Mary down the hill while I kept watch behind us as we made our way out of the grove and back through the woods toward Dapplegreen.
We arrived back in Hempstead and walked Mary to Aunt Vehl's house. Mary thanked all of us for our valor in guiding her out of harm's way and entered the house. Andrew, Sehky and I were also given something special by her Aunt Vehl for our chivalrous deeds that night.
I did not feel right about accepting any compensation for escorting a distressed lady back home safely, though; that is something I would just do by instinct.

Dregar has some very nice streams and lakes throughout its lands. When I first traveled to that Island with Feawen some time ago, she brought me to Corax Lake, her favorite lake on Dregar. After she showed me around the lake and the inner island, I looked to her and said.
"This lake would make a nice setting for a picnic someday, wouldn't you agree, my Love?"
Smiling to me, she replied. "That is lovely idea, my Leaf". We both were excited about returning back to Dregar again for our picnic with Corax Lake as our dining atmosphere.
Our paths and training have kept us apart more than we like, but when we are finally able to return to each other, our bond grows stronger each time we do. I had not seem my Forest Rose in some time since we left Dregar that day, so I sent Chess off with a letter to deliver to her. The letter asked for Feawen to meet me in Corax Lake for that picnic we had planned. Chess returned back, plump and happy, with 'Wen's acceptance to my invitation.
I arrived at Corax Lake sometime mid-morning and the clouds were already forming a thick layer in the sky. I prayed that it would not rain on that day, I do not mind the rain, but it does not make for a pleasant picnic by the shore. My eyes caught sight of my Love sitting peacefully, looking out onto the lake. I made my way down the embankment and quietly walked up and sat down behind 'Wen. I noticed that she was wearing another exquisite dress. The dress was white with red flares surrounding the bottom of the garment. She always loves to dress up for our special times together, which I have come to adore because the garments she selects are very elegant and they make me very special knowing that I have such a lovely woman who feels so much for me in her heart.
She came out of her meditative state and I leaned in from behind her and whispered in her ear.
"Hello beautiful, I hope you have not been waiting long".
She turned around, throwing her arms around my shoulders, hugging tightly and saying
"I am so happy to see you my Love, it has been to long since we were together".
"Yes it has angel, my arms have longed for you," I quietly replied to her.
I think we sat next to the lake for many minutes before our loving embrace parted. She started telling me of her recent adventures with Daniel and Amgine while I started extracting our picnic fare from my pack. I threw down my cloak and started laying out various fruits, nuts and berries, along with two good sized fresh bass fillets from the fish that I caught that morning and had already cooked up before I traveled to Dregar.
After our lunch, I told 'Wen that I had written something special for her. I informed her that I was a little reluctant to present it to her because I had never written a song before. Well, it started out as a poem and then I found myself humming some melodies as I was halfway through the writing. The more I wrote down, the more melodies came to me until, eventually, it flowed into the resemblance of song. I told her that I titled it "Heavens Sent". 'Wen was very anxious to hear my song to her and she quickly made me feel confident enough to sing it to her.
I leaned in close to her ear and began to bring forth a soft, soothing Elven melody from my voice, varying the tones to a relaxing, flowing cadence as the lyrics gentle came in a low singing voice:
She is the one, my guiding sun..........
Always showing the way, helping me never to falter or stray.
She is the one...my guiding sun..........
What have I done to be sent an angel from the heavens above, this angel that tells me I am her Love..........
She is the one...my guiding sun..........
She lays in my arms under the stars at night, embracing me till dawn's morning light.
She is the one...my guiding sun. ..........
I find my heart content when my angel is near, the thought of her spirit away from me I have come to fear..........
She is the one...my guiding sun. ..........
The path we follow I desire, our passion burns, I can feel the fire.
She is the one...my guiding sun..........
I shall fight for my Forest Rose even if I shall have nothing left, and protect my Beloved until...
My last.......Dying........Breath.................................
After the melodies faded from my lips, she leaned in and kissed me saying,
"I love you, Shadowleaf; thank you. That was very beautiful, my Love, and I know it came from your heart".
I stood up and offered my Love a hand for her to take and stand. She took my hand and stood as I asked her, "May I have this dance my angel?" smiling to her as I did. "I would love to dance, my Love". I pulled her close to me and she laid her head on my shoulder, as I hummed melodies of the song into her ear. We danced slowly in each other's arms, both very content and did not wish to be anywhere else in Layonara at that moment in time.
The rain fell on and off for most of the afternoon, but we did not care, as our times together are always special regardless of the weather. Even though my angel is strong and her body can deflect arrows and attacks, her immune system is quickly compromised by precipitation, it seems. My poor Love started sneezing, she told me that she was not feeling too well. As always, 'Wen thinks I worry over her too much and did not want me to go through any trouble, but I just cannot bear the sight of my Love ill, hurt, or even sad.
I felt her forehead and warmth filled my hand. "That's it, I am taking you back to Mistone. I need to tend to your care until you are better my sweet, and I am not taking no for an answer, either."
She smiled up at me and nodded in acceptance, before sneezing again. I cleaned up our picnic remains and took 'Wen by the hand and we headed for Prantz for a quick portal back to Mistone. After arriving back in Ft. Wayfare, I led my beloved to our quiet place in the forest to tend to her care. She sat down and I got a fire started, then I drew a dry cloak from my pack to drape around her shoulders.
I sat next to her and began to briskly rub her shoulders and arms to send her inner chills away. My love was completely sapped of all energy and leaned her head on my shoulder saying to me, "Thank you, my Love; I am glad you are with me," and gently kissed my cheek before she curled up in my lap. I adjusted the cloak so it covered her petite body and brushed her silky hair back from her face so I could watch my Love drift off into a deep restful sleep. I tended the fire through the night so the campsite would stay warm, which eventually made the chills leave my Love's body. 'Wen's fever climbed slightly during the night, so I poured some cool water from my canteen over a clean cloth, wrung it out and placed it over her forehead. The damp cloth brought her fever down, and her temperature stayed normal through the night. I am so glad I remembered that trick my mother used on me when I had a fever when I was a child.
Morning arrived, and 'Wen slept in while I went off and gathered some berries and fresh water for my angel in case she might be hungry or thirsty when she awoke. I came back to camp with 'Wen sitting up and in a deep state of meditation. After a few minutes had passed, she came out of her trance like state and said to me
"I was worried when I awoke this morning and I was not in your arms, my Love".
"I went to get you some fruit and other edibles in case you might be hungry", I replied.
She hugged me saying "I never feel the same unless I am around you, my Leaf. I feel my home is wherever you are, my Beloved".
I warmly replied, "Our home is just being together, my Forest Rose. Though many miles may separate our bodies at times, our hearts are always bound together as one by the love we share".

Dream Dance, Summer End 13, 1465
I purchased a training dummy and installed it in my room a few months back. I believe my strikes are becoming less telegraphed now, and the enemy cannot follow my sword movements as effortlessly anymore. I moved one of the storage chests in my room over to clear the area around the dummy and still have just enough room for close archery practice. I have been practicing on regular basis, and it is starting to show in the field. The balance of my blades has finally come to me, with both swords attacking in harmony.
Lately, I have been practicing quick switching of my weapons during combat, shifting from bow to blades as fast as possible. I have learned in battle that if I can get a few arrows into the enemy as it advances my position, I am already at a slight advantage.
My practice routine consists of standing in the far corner of my room facing in the opposite direction of the target with bow in hand. I quickly spin around and fire two shots on target, then fling my bow over my back and unsheathe my blades, trying to rapidly achieve this action in one fluent motion. I repeat this drill every Dead Eye, and plan to continue on that schedule.
My speed is getting better with the training, but I still think I can squeeze just a few extra shots out with some dedicated practice.

I took a rest from training today and Grom and I went fishing in the Ro River. We made our way through Silkwood and as we approached the river, my eyes noticed something camouflaged underneath some brush nearby. I walked over to it with Grom in tow. As I leaned over to examine the mysterious pile of decayed foliage, Grom went to inspect what I was inquisitively looking at and I motioned for him to stay back. I realized that was lying underneath the foliage was some sort of trap.
I walked around the obscured trap, examining it from all angles. I carefully pulled the brush off that was camouflaging it, until the trap was fully exposed. The trap seemed to appear to be old and forgotten. I grabbed a stick and unknowingly set the trap off with a loud "SNAP"! Grom jumped back a few steps and looked to me in question. I motioned to him that all was ok and for him to stand his ground. I picked up the trap and tucked it into my pack to take a better look at later when I was back at my tree.
Grom and I had a great day fishing as we usually do. After our shore dinner and bellies full, we headed back for the night. Once back at my tree and with Grom drifting off to sleep on the ground below me, I began to examine the trap in great detail, covering every angle and working part on the snare trap. I worked the trigger a few times and began to understand how the trap's trigger mechanism could be set and activated. The trap was old though, and the hinges were rusty. I spent the night looking over the trap and learning its working parts the best I could.
Mid-morning came and I was still up in my tree fiddling with this trap. There really was not much to the trap, just some carved wood, forged parts, springs and a few wires. All of those resources could be crafted with some practice and in time I could eventually learn how to craft my own traps. I will begin to gather the supplies needed to start training in how to craft these traps and perhaps other types as well , but first I must get some sleep.
These traps will not be used for animal harvesting though as that is not a quick and ethical way to harvest an animal... but should be helpful for keeping defense perimeters in check and aiding in ambush sites.

*Leaf re-arranges some equipment and items in one of his storage chests in his room when he finds his lost journal, buried under some other books inside one of the chests. He pulls it out and blows the dust off of it saying, "There it is...and all this time I thought I had lost it". He sits down and flips to his last entry in the journal, gasping upon viewing the date. He clears a space on the floor next to his storage chest and sits down to scribe some of his thoughts about the years past.
Dead Eye, Summer Home 4, 1468

I am not sure even where to start, as my last entry was over three years ago....
Well, for starters, my arrow craftsmanship has excelled these past few years and I have mastered the grain of the oak hardwood. My arrows are much more durable then before, and can withstand penetrating the thick skins of the Giants and Trolls that roam these lands.
I have been learning the basics of Alchemy and have been making Fire and Acid flasks on a regular basis and storing them for future use. I have actually used a few of the flasks to create minor traps. Trap crafting has been a real challenge as there are many components and materials used to create them. These traps have helped with set ambush points and using them to slow down the enemies advancement through geographical funnel points. I shall continue trying new materials and components and work at creating different types of traps in the future to aid myself and my friends on our adventures.
I have met so many new people over these past years and have been enjoying their company also. You can gain some good knowledge by just listening to others and how they view the world through their own eyes. Some things are good...some things are bad, I just choose which I see as good and walk that path. My skills as an archer are becoming known, and I have been receiving invitations to join friends on their adventures more often lately. Although my friends know that I would help them if they ever needed it without having to be compensated, I am always included in the take on any treasure or coins that the group had gathered.
My Beloved and I have been able to see each other from time to time to share a meal, have some quiet moments together or just take a long walk together holding hands through the forests. I never feel quite the same unless Feawen is within my eyesight. She and I both lead very busy lives and are always constantly on the go but we always make time to come back to each other for a long visit and catch up on each other's lives. I have thought about this for over a year now and think I finally have the confidence built up inside me. I am about to send Chess off to find my Forest Rose and invite her back to Mistone, saying that I have something very important to discuss with her and request her presence when she is available.
There is also something else that has been on my mind for many years now and I just cannot seem to control it anymore. I still have no idea which Island I sailed from to Mistone. I regret staying below deck for most of the trip now, if only I would just read the name on the ship after we docked and I walked onto the docks in Hempstead, I would have some clue to start with...but alas, I have nothing to go on. I did overhear some talks from the sailor elves as I was below deck, but did not pay much attention to them and just huddled up near a crate most of the time in a state of shock.
Feawen gave me a terrific idea one day. She said that I should start at the same location where I started my new life as I left the ship that day. 'Wen told me that I cannot force the issue as that will just my mind into turmoil, but I should just keep my ears open and hope that someday something will turn up. I appreciated her wise thoughts and thanked her with a soft kiss in the process.
Ok, I need to keep my journal in my pack so it will not get lost again.

*Feawen returns to Mistone and meets up with Leaf under their favorite tree in Dapplegreen. They sit down next to each other with Leaf looking into his beloved's eyes and begins to tell her of his feelings*
"I am joyful that you have returned my Love, as my note indicated, I have something very important to discuss with you"
*Feawen looks to Leaf with a slightly worried look on her face*
" Feawen, you and I have been together for a many years now. We have laughed together, cried together and shared our most tender moments with one another. Our relationship is one of distance and we do not always have the opportunities to be with each other as often as we like, but the strength of our bond keeps us together. I have given many long nights thought over something that has been going through my mind as of late. I have decided that I should have a wife and family someday. I want someone to be the mother to my children and be my side through the good times and bad. I have found that certain lady my Love, and she just so happens to be close by, would you like to see her?"
*Feawen starts to look slightly angry and sad, and stands saying to Leaf* "I am not sure I want to see this women" and placed her hands on her hips with a hurtful look in her eyes. Leaf takes her hand and has her sit back down next to him and says to her*
"Yes, this lady is even close by. So, would you like to see her?"
*Feawen's lips start to just quiver and she musters a sad voice that said "I guess so....".
*Leaf reaches behind him and pulls a small mirror from his pack and places it in her hands. Feawen looks into the mirror almost in tears and wonders what does this mean. Leaf says to her "There she is, the lady I wish to be my wife and the mother of my children someday". Leaf then takes her hand and offically askes her*
"Will you marry me Feawen Silimaure?"
*Feawen throws her arms around Leaf and breaks down crying for a few seconds, then looks back up to him and says*
"I would be honored to become Mrs. Shadowleaf A'nadivian my Love".
*Leaf smiles brightly to her and they both lean in for a long passionate kiss. After the kiss, they both decide to go and let their friends know of the great news!*

*After a long and joyful wedding day celebrating with their friends into the evening, Leaf leads his wife to a secluded spot deep within a forest. When they arrive, Feawen notices a mutli-layered bed of soft fern leaves that is encircled by long stemmed red roses. As the night moons drift across the sky, Leaf wakes and sits up quietly staring at his beloved sleeping contently next to him. He gently moves her hair away from her face so he can see her better, before pulling out his journal and beginning to scribe down the day's events*
Today I became the happiest Elf in Layonara. I was wed to my Forest Rose, Feawen Silimaure, who has now become Feawen A'nadivian. *smiles brightly after scribing that*
We both did not want a huge and elaborate ceremony that the humans include when one of their kin gets married, but rather we just wanted a quaint gathering of our close friends to share our special day with us. Feawen had picked the area for us to be wed shortly after I proposed to her in Dapplegreen.
We sailed from Hempstead with Feawen leading me to Folian's Temple in the Forest of the Fog on Dregar. I have never been to Longstrider's Temple before, and upon arriving, I instantly knew that was the place that Feawen chose as the location for us to be wed. I informed her that time that I loved her choice to have the ceremony there in those tranquil surroundings which created a pleasant atmosphere for our wedding and out guests. We walked around the temple a few times and we both decided exactly where we would stand to say our vows. Once we had all of our ideas written down, we left Dregar and sailed back to Mistone to start the preparations for our wedding.
Feawen and I both asked the High Protector, Daniel Benjamin Poetr, to preside over the ceremony, not just because he is a noble clergyman, but also a dear friend to Feawen and I. Daniel was very pleased that we had asked him to perform the ceremony and was happy to do it for us. Feawen sketched out some announcements in her delicate calligraphy, and I traveled around most of Mistone, tacking up the announcements to various city and town public boards, hoping our friends that we have not seen in some time would spot them. We thought we started planning early enough, but the time quickly caught up to us. It was only a few days ago that Miss Elly was helping me rearrange some furniture and set up tables and chairs in her house so we could have a small reception there afterwards. I had been hunting and fishing many of the days prior to the ceremony. We had plenty of fresh fish and steaks for our friends. A good friend, Alazira, was nice enough to offer us some of her own wine from her wine cellar in her house to use at the reception as her gift to Feawen and I.
I went and had a tailor custom fit me for my wedding day suit that I purchased. That poor man, I must have had him change the inseam twenty or so times before I felt it was the right fit. After all, this was going to be my one and only wedding..I wanted everything to be perfect. A few weeks ago I had asked Sehky if he would stand with me and be there for support. Sehky was delighted that I asked him and he was quick to see if there was anything else he could do for Feawen and I.
I made my way to Folian's Temple early today to double check everything and so I could rehearse my vows to my Love a couple more times before I say them to her face to face. I found a quiet place close by and went over my vows making sure I pronounced the words properly and fluently. I arrived back to the Temple to see the High Protector extracting his book and some ceremonial cloths from his pack near where Feawen and I would stand and be wed. I turned around and noticed Valancia motioning to me that Feawen was ready to enter. Daniel looked to me and said "Its time Leaf".
I turned to look back and my eyes were met with a vision of loveliness. Val walked right behind Feawen not letting her gown drag on the ground. Feawens eyes locked onto mine as I quickly greeted her with a warming smile. My heart started pounding through my suit so loud I thought everyone was hearing it at the time. I quickly glanced outward to see Andrew start playing a soft elegant timely melody as Feawen came closer to me and the Protector. She walked to me and stood by my side. Val quickly arranged Feawen's long dress neatly off to the side before the ceremony commenced. We looked to each other and it was almost as if the world had stopped and there was no one else around for a few seconds but her and I. Then the Protector cleared his throat and said that the ceremony was about to begin and spoke of why Feawen and I have come together on this day to become one. He looked to me and said that it was custom for the man to give his vows first. I gently took both of Feawen's hands with mine and brought them up in front of me to indicate that two halves are becoming one entity. I took a deep cleansing breath and recited my vows to my Love........
From the moment my eyes first saw you that day in the Moors, without having even met you, I knew that you would become a special part of my life. It has been 10 years since that day and here we are my Love, standing before friends as our hearts become one.
Feawen Silimaure, I have and always will love you like no other. You are my inspiration, my guiding light and my heaven sent angel. Since you entered my life, I have come to know and understand the meaning of true love, when you care for your companion more than you do for your own self.
When we are together, we show our love, share our thoughts, ideas, secrets, and we have deep compassion for one another. I vow to keep these things always present in our lives and to keep communications between us ongoing at all times. There is nothing that I wish not to share with you my Love.
When we are apart, we both know deep down inside that the other one is always with us in spirit. I have come to realize that you and I were destined to come together for a reason. I have come to understand this as us being each other's soul mate. I vow to always cherish you and our internal bond together till the day comes when I will take my last breath in this world.
It has become my natural instinct to watch over and protect you from harm's way 'Wen. This is something I feel very strong about my Love, the sight of you ill, hurt or even sick makes my body feel the same effects.
I am glad that you have trained your body well enough to take care of yourself when I am not with you, but know this, I will always watch over and protect my Forest Rose, even if it means that I shall have to sacrifice my own life to save yours.
There has never been another lady who makes me feel so special on the inside as well as the outside. Since you became a part of my life 'Wen, I have never had other feelings for another lady, like the feelings I have for you. I vow to never abandon you or have other special relations with another woman. Not just because it is the considerate thing to do, but just because I have no desire to be with anyone else, I have you, and you are everything in a lady I ever dreamed for.
My most beautiful Feawen, I stand before you here today still sometimes wondering what have I done to be so blessed to have you in my life. My mother always said to me when I was a young Elf, "Good things come to those who wait my little Leaf".
10 years ago my wait ended as our hearts came together and now they become unified by the powers granted in the High Protector. Looking into the future, I see us growing together with love, honesty, empathy, and the gods willing, a family of our own someday.
I pulled her hands up to me and kissed them gently as I had finished my vows.
My beloved was flowing with tears of joy after my vows reached her ears. She gathered herself and with a sincere look to me recited her vows.
My Love, My Windblown Leaf, My Midnight Dream. You came to me a apart of our destiny blown to me by winds of fate neither of us expected. You came to me to make me whole again. I think of our endless possibilities when I gaze into your eyes.
I think of the love of a creator placing the finishing touches on a amazing work of art, and you are that final touch who I treasure each moment with and cherish endlessly. Each moment you show me more and give me insight to a world I never knew before.
Today before our friends, I promise you that I will always love you. That I will always remain faithful and true to you. That I will always support you, that I will tend you when you are sick or just because I know you enjoy it so much.
I will always be patient and understanding. I will always be here for you and love you with a resolve that will never waver. I promise to be here to kiss away each tear.
I promise that you My Windblown Leaf, to always be true and share with you all of my fears, all of my dreams and to listen always and support you in everything we do. I promise as long as you will have Me ShadowLeaf A'nadivian!
My heart was taken by the strong and thoughtful sayings Feawen had spoken about me. I wanted to kiss her deeply right then and there, but I controlled myself and let the ceremony continue. We lowered our heads as Daniel blessed us and our unification. Daniel's prayers and blessings were warmly felt by both 'Wen and I. Daniel said that we may now kiss and seal this marriage with love and trust. Our kiss seemed to launch dancing lights around us with our friends standing and clapping as the High Protector presented us to the congregation, Mr. and Mrs. A'nadivian.
Our friends all came up and congratulated us and offered their best to us as we begin our eternal bond together. Andrew started playing a soft waltz in the background. I gently took my wife's hand and led her to the dance area. Andrew looked at me and as if we were almost in unison, his bow cascaded across the strings to bring forth a vibrant and bounding melody off his violin, I led my love around the dance floor twisting and turning her around as we briskly moved over the ground. Friends started clapping along with Andrew's song, happiness was all around. I even saw Sehky and Val dancing a few times together.
We danced to many of Andrew's songs tonight and neither Feawen nor I wanted the night to end, but we both were getting very tired from a long day. We went and hugged and thanked all of our friends for attending our special day before they headed back to their own homes. After everyone left, I led her to this spot.
Now, here I am...Shadowleaf A'nadivian. *looks down to Feawen and pulls the cloak blanket up on her shoulders as she pleasantly dreams by his side*

I am exhausted and thankful I will have some time to sleep on this lengthy voyage after I finish scribing this entry. That was a grueling hunt and the journey to Leringard was long and eventful I must say. I was just about to leave the White Horn Forest when I was attacked by giant spiders and a fire beetle. I knew I was outnumbered and needed some help or the outcome of that encounter might not of worked in my favor. I ran around the corner near a cave entrance and came upon a black bear foraging for some food. The bear was startled by my sudden appearance but I managed to quickly make him realize I meant him no harm. The spiders rounded the corner and I unsheathed my blades and prepared for battle. The bear kept the beetle occupied as spider legs began to be severed from my whirling blades. The bear took a deep laceration from the beetle and staggered in pain. I knew I had to end that skirmish fast and help the bear. The points of my swords found their marks and ended the existence of the insect horde. I went to the black bear and dressed his wound and made sure the bleeding stopped before I left him to fully recover on his own before vacating the area.
Some of my friends said that marriage changes a person in a way. I would say that is true statement to a certain extent. I am finding myself doing things for two elves now instead of just one, but I enjoy being able to take care of my angel. Feawen and I have been able to spend more time together lately which has been nice, but still....our times away from each other are dismal and hard to bear. I guess that was what my friends meant, you feel hollow when your beloved is not by your side. I have come to adore the expression on 'Wen's face when I offer her a rose. She can say many words to me just through the look in her eyes.
I remember a few months back when we were just walking together outside Ft. Wayfare when she pulled her hand from mine and playfully jabbed my side saying "Your It!" and quickly ran off ahead of me. She is so fast!! I ran as fast as I could but only got to within a few strides of her, and I am sure she was not even running her best either. She finally let me catch up to her and tag her back, while smirking and saying to me "O Love...,you caught me again". The childish games we play with each other keeps us young and spirited. We have such a great relationship together and we are truly blessed that we can even make the small things in life feel special.
I think it's time for just the two of us to take some time away from training and the rigors of everyday life and travel to some peaceful lands in search for new streams and lakes to fish along with some peace and quiet for a while. I know Grom will want to accompany us, he has become so protective of Feawen. *chuckles a bit* I wonder who he gets that from.

The other day after our morning meal, Wen' said she wasn't feeling well and had to excuse herself for a few minutes. She told me that she had been having some stomach pains the last few days and usually when the sun appears on the horizon at day break. Feawen is not one to complain about minor issues or discomfort, but I was noticing her grimace often and place her hand on her stomach from time to time. I asked her if she knew what was making her feel this way. She looked at me with that heavenly smile of hers and denied that anything was wrong and stated that she was just fine.
I could tell that she was just trying to be strong for me and not make me worry as I do, but it was to no avail, I decided to forgo my training and duties for the day and take Wen' to Port Hempstead to have her examined by a healer. The journey took most of the day to arrive and the sun was just starting to fall in the sky. I sensed that my Love was becoming a little worried herself by the way she was firmly clenching my hand as we walked through port. I was not sure if there was anyone available who could examine Feawen at that hour of the day, so we went to the Angels Guild to see if any members were there and who might know of someone local who could help. The guild hall was silent without a soul around. We heard the door open behind us, and we turned to greet Daniel Benjamin Poetr who was arriving to the guild to attend to some business matters.
Daniel quickly sensed our anxiety and asked what was troubling us. I informed the Protector that Feawen had been feeling ill the past few days and we have come to port seeking someone could understand why and how to help her with the ailing morning occurrences. Daniel asked Wen' to go and sit on the bench so he could examine her vital signs and overall well being.
The Protector placed his hand on her forehead for a few moments before he displayed a slightly puzzled look in his eyes. I promptly questioned the expression in his eyes and at that point I became very worried. He reassured me that Feawen's vital signs were strong but that he detected multiple heartbeats. Feawen and I looked to each other as our smiles began to grow. I asked Daniel to please confirm what he sensed inside Feawen's body. He smiled back to us and said that he was certain that he detected two heartbeats and even a faint third heartbeat as well. Wen' and I were beside ourselves, knowing that we have been blessed with a magnificent "gift" or.. "gifts" according to the Protector.
Feawen was tearing up with joy, and I was so excited that I took two steps back and did a standing back flip right there in the guild, and let out a loud cheer in the process. I went over and hugged my Forest Rose and savored the moment knowing that we were going to become parents, teachers, play mates and role models in a couple of years. Daniel put his hands on our shoulders and said that our lives were going to change, but for the better, and we shall experience the meaning of "Love" from a totally different perspective once the children are born. He sent us off with the Dragon's blessings and said that if there was ever a time that we were worried over Feawen's delicate condition, we could always travel to Wayfare to see him for an examination. We both hugged and thanked the Protector for his insight, wisdom and friendship. Wen' and I left the guild hall and started our walk back towards home.
Wen' and I talked about many different ideas on our way back home that night. Through the entire walk we started making some plans for a few things to get ready before the children even arrive. We are a little frightened for the upcoming responsibilities we will have with the children, but delighted to be able to raise and love our own little ones. We both accept the challenge and know that we will be loving, protective, fun parents as they grow over the years.
There is much to prepare and I must get started accomplishing those tasks immediately, the children will be here before we know it.

*After many grueling hours in the Toranite temple in Ft. Llast, Leaf leaves his family in the gentle care of the sisters and walks back to his room. He enters his room and falls into his chair from sheer exhaustion. He finds just enough energy to open his journal and dip the quill into the ink vial sitting on the desk*
This morning I was returning back to my room with a basket full of fresh berries for breakfast. I found Feawen curled up on the floor, whimpering and holding her midsection. I dropped the basket, quickly ran over to her side and fearfully asked. "What is wrong, Love?!" She cried out "O Leaf! It hurts so much!"
I picked her up and carried her over to the Toranite temple to have one of the healers assess Feawen's condition and our babies growing inside of her. We were shown to a small room and informed that Minda would be in shortly to see 'Wen. Feawen laid on the bed still holding her midsection in pain, but she was able to control it with some rhythmic breathing exercises she had recently learned from Elohanna. Elly has been such a great help to us during the pregnancy and she always made sure that Feawen had plenty of wholesome and healthy foods to eat during her delicate condition. She is not just my landlady; Elly is a good friend.
Minda entered the room and greeted us. My nerves felt relaxed as she explained some things that she was doing while examining Feawen. I noticed Minda's alarmed reaction as she brought her hand and placed it on Feawen's rounded belly. She excused herself from our room and said that she would be back in a few moments. I leaned in to Feawen and told her that everything was going to be alright and she need not worry, but I could tell by the fear in her eyes that she was very afraid for our babies, just as I was.
Minda came back in our room with two ladies following in behind her. She introduced the Aeridinite sisters to Feawen and me. Lynall and Andrathalia were two very warm young ladies who seemed very concerned with Feawen's condition. Minda went to 'Wen's bedside and spoke softly to her. "Please listen to me dear. Your babies are not going to wait any longer, they are going to arrive very shortly".
Feawen looked to me with tears building in her eyes after Minda's statement. Minda sent off Lynall to quickly prepare a birthing room. I clenched my beloved's hand and knelt down to her side. She gripped my hand in return and whispered to me "O, my Love...I am so frightened". My heart started trembling as I was beginning to comprehend exactly what was about to happen. I didn't truly understand why the babies were coming so soon. We were informed that it would take two years for the children to fully develop inside of Feawen. It has not been the full two years yet, but Minda confirmed, with another check of Feawen's abdomen, that our babies were indeed on their way.
I am so glad that I took the minute to send word off to Daniel when we were waiting for Minda to arrive. He arrived just before we were getting ready to move Feawen to the birthing room. I was very thankful that the Protector was close by Ft. Llast at the time and was able to be present with us in our time of need. Lynall quickly walked back in and started to gather some extra sheets and blankets before we left the room. We followed Minda and the two sisters as they led Feawen to a secluded room with a very large bed.
The sisters prepared Feawen and instructed me to get into the bed behind her and support her head and back during the delivery. Daniel asked Minda where his services would best be utilized. She informed the Protector that his blessings should only be minimally used, as the children are not strong enough to accept such blessings this early in life and blessings on Feawen should only be used sparingly until after the children have been delivered.
Feawen let out a painful scream and Minda said.."Alright dear, it's time to breathe, relax and focus now, I want to you to push". My hand felt a crushing grip as the pain started to increase substantially in my beloved. After what seemed like an eternity, I watched Minda pull our very minuscule, frail child from 'Wen and out from behind the sheet that was blocking our view. She quickly handed the boy over to a waiting Daniel. Daniel looked to me and asked if the boy has a given name yet? I was overwhelmed at the first sight of my tiny son and informed the Protector that his name is "Orion", but I wondered why Orion's breathing seemed very labored and there was no audible cry in his lungs. Minda looked to Orion for a split second and then went back to her position in front of Feawen. Daniel turned his back to us and I overheard him ask Minda very quietly why the boy was not crying. Minda whispered back to the Protector that the boy was not "whole" in terms of organ development and sadly will not survive. I was crushed at hearing Minda speak those fateful words about my son.
Another loud scream from Feawen broke the brief silence in the room. This scream was worse than before and I have never seen my beloved in such pain. It was breaking my heart. I wanted to be able to take some of the agony away that her body was enduring, but I could merely only be there for her with my reassuring words and loving support. I saw Minda motion for Andrathalia to come by her side. Feawen was crying and her body started shaking. I started to rub her lower back in hopes of easing some of her pain, but it did not have much effect. Minda said that the next child was much larger than the first one and she needed to be strong. Feawen's screams were growing louder and louder as the next child started to appear. Then I felt my beloved's body start to become relaxed and the pain had seemed to subside in her.
Feawen's grip on my hand let loose and her body was very still for a few moments. I was starting to panic and felt my blood race through my body. Then I noticed a slight golden aura to Feawen that I have never noticed before. I looked up and saw Minda was now standing with her head down and she too had this same golden aura surrounding her then it gradually disappeared. Minda went down, made some movements with her hands and arms and brought the second child into the world. I heard Lynall gasp when the child was out far enough to be seen. I could not see the full view of the child from behind the sheet that was draped over Feawen's legs and kept focused on Feawen at the time. Lynall's eyes grew wide as Minda handed her the contorted bundled up child. Lynall quickly went over to the dresser and set the bundle on top of it. Again, there was no crying or even any movement this time, just a disturbing stillness to the child.
I became very worried as Feawen was still not coherent. I grabbed a small cloth and dabbed her head to keep the perspiration from running into her eyes while Minda tended to Feawen below. Both Lynall and Andrathalia were huddled over the bundled child on the dresser and speaking in a very low tone to one another. They turned around and looked to me and asked if this boy had a name. I managed to get out.. "Hunter". Daniel held Orion in his arms and paced the room as Minda kept her attention on Feawen.
Fewen's body suddenly jerked and the grip on my hand was strong once again. She let out loud whimper and then settled back into my chest and was once again aware of her surroundings and what was happening. I whispered to her that I was very proud of her and that it was almost over. I grabbed a cup of water off the bedside table and offerered 'Wen a sip. Another contraction came to pass and in Feawen's agony, she knocked the cup of water out of my hand and all the way to the other side of the room. I calmed her and brushed the hair back from her face as Minda looked at Feawen and said "We are almost done dear, just one more push and it should be all over".
Feawen let out her final scream and the sisters looked to me and smiled as Minda delivered our final child. This time there was loud crying and the child had good movement. Daniel yelled out "It's a Girl!!". Minda handed the very tiny baby girl to the sisters. The sisters quickly wiped her off and swaddled her up in a soft warm blanket. Minda smiled to Feawen and me and said "Mr. and Mrs. A'nadivian, you have a very beautiful daughter. Has she been granted a name yet?" We both answered Minda's question in unison...."Rose" is how to pronounce her name in common, but she will be referred to in our native language..."Melaa".
Minda handed Melaa over to Feawen and I for bonding. We both could not believe the little lady who was cooing before our eyes and seemed very content being held by her mother and father. Her body is very minute and she has the most precious little fingers and toes that we ever had seen. Minda and the Aerindinite sisters remarked over Melaa's natural beauty even for an elf. She has a lot of her mother in her already.
I slid out from behind my beloved to let Mom and daughter have a moment together while I went to talk with Minda. I asked Minda to step outside the room for a moment so I could speak with her. The two sisters tended to Feawen and baby Melaa. I asked Minda about Orion. She informed me that he was just not developed enough for his body to survive being outside of Feawen's womb and she was very sorry to say that he perished a little while ago in Daniels' arms. Daniel said that he did go in peace. My heart shattered and I needed a second to regain my composure. Then I reluctantly asked about Hunter. She lowered her voice and informed me that he had many differences in his body structure that were so severe that he did not even survive the birth and was "stillborn" as she put it me.
I was not looking forward to going back into the room to inform Feawen that we lost Orion and...Hunter. Minda laid a hand on my shoulder and said "Mr. A'nadivian, during the delivery of the second child, Lady Feawen was in an incoherent state and she does not even know there was actually three children birthed. Your wife needs you now; please go be with her and let us take care of the rest for you . Dont worry, we will take very good care of them and make all the necessary arrangements". I indicated a few necessary and heartfelt wishes to Minda about what I would like to have done with Orion and Hunter's burial plots before she left my side.
I walked back into the room to see Feawen resting in a deep meditative state, with Lynall wrapping up Melaa after her first feeding of mother's milk. Lynall brought Melaa over to me and I kissed her tiny head and whispered to her "Your mommy and daddy are very happy you have arrived and we cannot wait to show you the world. But rest now, little one, eat well and gain strength. I love you Melaa".
Minda walked back into the room and said that Melaa and mom would have to stay at the temple for further observation until little Melaa has gained some strength with weight gain and Feawen has had ample time to fully recover. I asked her to please watch over my two ladies; they are all I have and I will do anything for them.
I thanked Minda and the two sisters for all that they had done for Feawen and me before they left and tended to matters at hand. I went and sat down on the bed next to my beloved, who seemed much better now, resting peacefully. I looked at her lovely face and broke down in tears. I gently brushed my hand over her cheek and just sat there fighting back the tears for the next for a few minutes before finally saying. "When you wake, I have some very sad news to share with you. Rest now, my Love."

It has almost been a full year since Melaa was born. Both of my ladies were released from the Temple after two months had passed since the birth of our little Love. During their recovery period, I went and purchased some furniture that would make my room more of a "home" for my family instead of just a storage room. I asked Elly if would be alright if I had a bathtub and a large bed brought up to my room. She did not hesitate in letting me do so and she even offered us some of her own children's baby clothing that she had saved over the years instead of us having to go and purchase new clothes for Melaa. Melaa is still very petite and she does not yet fit into most of her clothes, but she is gaining weight with each passing month and keeping Feawen occupied with her extended feedings.
Melaa has been such a blessing that has come into our lives I cannot even convey our feelings on this parchment. She makes Feawen and me admire her determination in wanting to do something if she really puts her mind to it. The other day while Feawen was out for a walk, I told Melaa that she had to wait until daddy could get the toy off the shelf for her. As I went back to mounting some new feathers on some arrows, my ears overheard the stool being pushed over to the desk. When I turned around Melaa had climbed onto that stool and started climbing onto the desk to try to get the toy on the shelf above. I quickly ran over and grabbed her before she had lost her balance and came tumbling down to the floor. She loves to climb the furniture and we have to watch her constantly these days. A few weeks ago, Elly was watching Melaa for us so Feawen and I could go and collect some food and purchase some much needed supplies. When we returned back home, Elly had a smirk on her face and said to us, "You have quite the energetic and dexterous little lady. I only turned my back for a second and she had already scaled halfway up one of my food shelves."
Melaa is just starting to understand the basic composition of our language. Feawen and I try to exclusively use our native language around Melaa so in her early years she will understand the many different pronunciations that are a part of the elven tongue. She will also be taught common, as it is needed in today's society for business and commerce. As she blossoms, if she shows that her intellect can handle additional languages, then even greater. She is starting to speak elven well enough for us to be able to understand her current needs and her pronunciation is not bad.
I think it is time I finish this entry and take my ladies for a stroll along the Zainge. There is a pleasant breeze today and the fresh air will do us some good. This will be good opportunity for another nature lesson for Melaa as well.

*Leaf watches Feawen giving Melaa a bath before bedtime as they relax after a festive day with family and friends*
Today was Melaa's first birthday. My beloved is getting our little angel ready for bed and for her daddy to read her a story.
I had asked Elly if we could have a small celebration at the house for Melaa's first year of childhood. She told me that she would love to make dinner for us and she would also bake Melaa's favorite pie....blueberry. Melaa loves blueberries and we would have to give credit to Elly for that...whenever Melaa knows that "Gammie Elly" will be watching her for the day, she knows that Elly will take her blueberry picking. Its Melaa and Elly's special thing they do together and Melaa loves spending time with Elly.
I mentioned to Elly that I would also like to invite a few friends of ours to join us in the celebration. I invited Andrew, which of course Elly was happy to hear, as well as Sehky and his new companion...Breanna. I wanted to invite the Protector, but I had recently learned that he is away tending to important matters on Dregar. Elly said that for that number of guests, we should have a large roast, baked assorted root vegetables, fresh bread and mixed juices for dinner. I awoke before dawn's light and headed out into the dark forest. I was back at the house before midday with a deer that I had harvested early this morning. After a short rest, I was moving some furniture around in the living room while Feawen, Melaa and Elly were busy in the kitchen talking and preparing the feast.
Andrew arrived and was greeted at the door by Elly with a heartfelt hug. She led him into the living room. Andrew noticed Feawen and Melaa sitting on the floor playing with some toys. Melaa was a little intimidated by Andrew's towering height. Melaa climbed into Feawen's lap, not understanding who this tall man was. Melaa looked up to Andrew and watched him lower himself down to her eye level and smile warmly to her. Feawen told Melaa that Andrew is a friend and that humans are much larger than us but she need not fear him. Andrew then reached into his red coat and pulled out a small wooden object and said to Melaa "I understand that today is your birthday little one. I would like to give this to you as a gift" . He offered Melaa a carved hickory slide whistle. Melaa was a little apprehensive to take it at first, but after she heard mommy say that it is ok to take it, she did. Andrew showed her how to work the slide and how to make sounds from it. Melaa worked the slide and liked the sounds it produced.
There was a knock at the door. Sehky and Breanna had arrived and I led them into the living room for some refreshments before dinner was served. Introductions were made and everyone was socializing and admiring little Melaa playing with her toys. We sat around the living room conversing as Elly and Feawen finished preparing our meal in the kitchen. I informed our friends of the frightening and heartbreaking events that happened a year ago on this day at the Temple. After hearing what we went through, especially 'Wen, they tenderly offered their sincere condolences for our loss.
When a mouth watering aroma flowed out from the kitchen, we knew that dinner was ready. The table was set and the banquet was presented. The roast was cooked to perfection, the vegetables well seasoned and the bread fresh and hot out of the oven. I let 'Wen eat first while I helped Melaa with her dinner. Melaa is starting to like whole foods more and more, but she still likes her partial feedings from mom. Feawen and I both agree to have Melaa consume mother's milk for as long as she is inclined to latch on. We have been informed by many others that there is no other food that can match the nutritional value of mother's milk, and we want what's best for our little Love.
Once everyone was finished with dinner, I cleared the table and did a few dishes as our friends headed back into the living room for pie and Melaa's gifts. Melaa sat in Feawen's lap while I went and brought out a few wrapped packages and set them on the floor near 'Wen and Melaa. Melaa climbed down out of 'Wen's lap and toddled over to her gifts. I told her that the gift on top was from Gammie Elly. Melaa ripped the wrapping from the gift and held up many colorful, petite baby girl outfits. Elly said that she noticed that Melaa would be needing some new clothes soon and she custom made the garments to fit Melaa's tiny frame. The next package was from Sehky and Breanna. A long oddly shaped package that was thin on the bottom and bulky on top. Melaa tore the wrapping off and held out a hobby horse. She loved the toy and I went and showed her how to play "horsey" with it. Everyone starting chuckling at my display on the hobby horse, but Melaa's laughter was well worth my slight embarrassment. The next gift was from 'Wen. It was a leather bound book that Melaa can use to savor tokens of remembrance as she blossoms into a fine elven woman over the years. On the first page, Feawen placed a freshly picked pressed red rose, symbolizing the simple things in life we should cherish. The last gift was from me. For the past few months I have been hand carving small wooden animals for Melaa's present. She opened the gift and pulled out individual carvings of a Deer, Bear, Squirrel, Rabbit, Boar and a Falcon. Melaa loved the animal toys and they will also be good objects for her to learn from as well as play with. I will continue to carve additional animals for her so she learn all the animals that inhabit the world and have fun while doing it.
After we had pie and tea, Andrew asked if he might play a children's song on "Bella", his violin, for Melaa. I was hoping that Andrew would play for Melaa, as I know she likes to hear sounds of music and Andrew's are some of the best around. Andrew got up from the couch next to Elly and walked to the center of the room, gave a warm smile down to Melaa in front of him and brought Bella up to his chin and began to play for her.
Little girl, little girl, where's your cat today?
My cat is out a' mousin' and so she's gone away
Little girl, little girl, where's your goat today?
My goat has gone a' grazing, in the barnyard hay
Little girl, little girl, where's your cow today?
My cow is home a' milkin' for our curds and whey
Little girl, little girl, where's your hen today?
My hen is gone a' layin' making eggs for our buffet
Little girl, little girl, where's your pa today?
My pa is gone a' fishin' catching dinner in the bay
Little girl, little girl, where's your ma today?
Ma is gone a' gardenin' picking flowers for a bouquet
Little girl, little girl, where are you today?
I'm gone a' singin' waiting for someone to play!"
Half way through Andrew's song, Melaa stood and started clapping her hands and moving her body back and forth to the sounds coming from Bella and Andrew's voice. Feawen looked to me and smiled proudly. Breanna got up from her seat next to Sehky and went and held Melaa's hands and danced with her. The expression on Melaa's face was priceless and 'Wen and I were very touched as we watched our baby girl trying to keep her balance while dancing with Breanna. Andrew played a few songs till darkness started to develop outdoors.
Feawen and I were cleaning up, when Elly said she had an announcement to make. She informed us that her and Andrew were going into business together on Alindor and she would have to put the house up for sale soon. We learned that they have purchased a large vacant Inn in Mariner's Hold. Andrew will be the keeper and Elly will be in charge of the kitchen and be the head chef at the "Silver Buckle", the name they have chosen for their new establishment. As much as it pains us to see Elly leave Ft. Llast, we know it is what she desires and it will be a good investment for her. We certainly wish her and Andrew the best, even though Melaa will miss not seeing Elly every day. After her announcement, Sehky inquisitively asked her what price the house would go for on the market. Elly told him that she has not put a set price on the house yet, but if he is interested they can discuss details when she does come to a price.
Once everyone left, we asked Elly to watch Melaa for us so 'Wen and me could go visit the boy's burial sites and place some flowers on their graves. It is still very hard even today, Feawen broke down into tears and fell to her knees, sobbing at the graves. I tried to be strong for my wife but the sadness is still with me each and every day. We walked back to the house firmly holding each other's hand, very thankful that we have been blessed with Melaa.

*After a long day of packing and moving boxes into storage, Leaf and family finally settle in for the night. Feawen rocks with Melaa in her lap as Leaf sits across from them in his chair. With an anticipated quiet evening ahead of them, he takes the time to update his neglected memoirs*
It has been a very hectic last 3 years.....
Melaa keeps Feawen and I moving from sun up to sun down most days. She use to stay close by our legs and remained shy until just about this time last year. Then one day she seemed to blossom into a vibrant, speedy little girl. Melaa has always loved to climb just about anything she possibly could since she could walk. The other day I caught her trying to scramble up a tree without the usual safety rope we have when we practice climbing. She is becoming fearless of heights these days, which makes Feawen and I toss and turn with worry at night just thinking about it. Her eyes are as sharp as a Falcon's as well. She can spot movement from good distances and I can't even get much past Melaa's eyesight, which has led to Da' sharing many evening snacks with her lately.
Her archery lessons are coming along very well. Her current lesson is learning to steady the bow out in front of her for a count of 15 seconds. She keeps asking me "When shoot Da'..,when shoot?". I feel once she has learned the proper stance, poise and posture holding the curved stick, then I will attach the silk string to her bow and teach her how they both interact together as one weapon.
Feawen is teaching Melaa our language as well as Common. Feawen has this way with Melaa and other children as well that is hard to describe. Children seem to approach 'Wen without hesitation or fear. I believe they can sense her inner goodness and they are drawn to it like a newborn baby deer is to its mother. Melaa likes to know where Mom is at all times and often goes and looks for her in other rooms when she has left the room for any length period of time.
When I watch mother and daughter together I become overwhelmed with joy as I look upon the two lovely ladies that have become my life. Melaa is a very happy young elf who loves to dance, play and learn. She loves to go downstairs and play the piano too...or at least attempt to play it. Melaa will be upset when the movers of Elly's come to collect the large musical piece and transport it to Alindor and eventually, the Silver Buckle. If in a few years Melaa still continues to show signs of interest in the piano, I might hire Andrew to give her some lessons. I remember when Andrew gave Melaa her first instrument, a slide whistle for her very first birthday. She still plays that instrument today and even though she has had no formal training with its use, her sound output is not bad.., well, most of the time. I think she will like "Mr. Andrew" teaching her a musical instrument, this time the large piece with many thin white colored planks of wood that she loves to push with her fingers.
This past year, my time has been mostly spent in Krandor, at the hospital. The K.A.R.T upkeep has been quite demanding, especially with the aid for Hlint. I pray to Longstrider that a cure for the contagion plaguing Hlint will cease and exist and the serpents of the sky will be driven off, never to return.
When Moraken's Tower first came under attack from the Green Dragon Cult, some thought it was just an isolated attack. Then when a group of travelers and merchants were attacked by the Cult forces traveling the main highway between Karst and Krandor, the towns folk of Karst, Krandor and even as far inland as Ft. Llast and beyond began to worry gravely for their own safety and of their homes and lands. I feared for my family's safety after that event. It was described as a vicious attack from a blue and silver dragon that descended down on the travelers, then many Myr'Drachs followed, shredding the few remaining survivors after the brutal first attack from the mighty dragon. One of the few survivors from that attack claims that from his hidden location in the trees, he witnessed the Cult force consume all the dead bodies on the ground before they took flight once again. It has been almost two years since the first attack from the Cult and yet we still wonder if or when the next attack will be and where.
I am so glad that Feawen and I took the time to mark out hidden trails leading to various secluded rendezvous points deep in the forests for her and Melaa to meet me in case of an emergency. 'Wen keeps Melaa close by her side these days in case they should suddenly have to leave Ft. Llast at a moment's notice.
Many brave friends have stepped forth and offered their aid to help miss Elly and the Aeridinite Sisters of Rebirth in any way they could from outside Hlint's gates. I recently traveled with Andrew to the outskirts of Black Castle to locate a certain box that was supposed to of arrived in Hlint on a resupply caravan. The contents within contained something that sister Moonriver said might lend some comfort and healing to those quarantined inside. We did manage to locate the box and deliver it to sister Moonriver. Elly talked with Andrew and I threw the gates that night after we returned with the box. Elly is maintaining, but from the tone in her voice I could sense that the long hours were starting to take its toll on her body. She is devoted to helping those in need and hopefully to bring Hlint's suffering to an end. She said that all the sisters are exhausted, but stand proud and continue tending to the suffering. I left Hlint that night hoping that maybe whatever was in that box would lead an answer to perhaps finding a cure.
Elly went to Hlint sometime ago to join her Sisters of the Rebirth and bring healing to those in need. When I first traveled to Hlint with K.A.R.T. after the first reports of the attacks on Moraken's Tower, my eyes were devastated by the carnage that the Cult force could unleash on such well seasoned warriors. Soldiers twice my size lay on the ground almost severed in half while others lay screaming with severely burned appendages. Even the poor children were not spared in the least. I wept inside from the sight my eyes saw that day. I continued guiding the team up the road passing by all the wounded, burned and recently deceased to reach the drop off point just outside the gate. The smell of death permeated the air. I regained my composure and got to work handing out the jugs of fresh water, clean bandages, food rations and the other supplies.
The Queen of Trelania declared Hlint in a state of emergency and quarantined the entire town within it pallaside surroundings after the first attacks. The Fifth Queens Guard regiment have been stationed outside the town's gates and are ordered to use deadly force on anyone trying to enter or exit without permission. I fear that if they don't find a cure for the contagion soon, this epidemic could spread outward and contaminate surrounding lands, and If the Dragon Cult cannot be stopped, what will be the fate of Mistone, or all the lands of Layonara even...
When I was last in Krandor checking on available K.A.R.T supplies, I noticed miss Galathea explaining in great detail on how she wanted a certain archway to look to a few workman. I walked down to her and the hired dwarven masons where I was greeted with a smile from her. Galathea said that she wanted to speak with me briefly in the guild hall. We went there and sat in the lounge area of the guild. She began to speak of the last hospital board meeting and what was discussed. Galathea has come under a calling from the Deep Mother and must relinquish her duties to the Krandor hospital and needed someone else to take over the duties and keep things moving forward in research. My name was mentioned by the board members as a potential head master candidate should I choose to take on such a responsibility. The head master is one who would preserve the Oath and keep the hospital growing in advancement in cures for Illness, diseases and poison research. To lead the stewards and staff so they can offer healing and care to those in need. To build the hospital within and offer a hands on learning environment for our youth to learn from master healers, surgeons and physicians so that one day they can take over and provide care for those in need as well.
As I sat there and listened to Galathea explain the details, I started thinking of Melaa growing up inside the hospital and the learning environment that would surround her. By the time Galathea was finished with her offer to me, my decision had already been made. I felt a keenness build inside me when I stood up from that chair. A new found passion that I knew I must fulfill and continue from that day forward. Also, I could not afford to not give Melaa this chance to learn and mature from so many intelligent teachers. Feawen literally jumped into my arms when I got home that night and told her the good news, then Melaa came running in for her usual hug and kiss from Da', wanting to know why mommy was very happy.
As the family sat down to dinner that night, I informed them of all the details about the meeting I had with miss Gala and the great offer and responsibility that I have accepted. Melaa doesn't really understand it totally yet, other then she knows that Mommy, Da' and she are soon moving to a place called..."Crayondore" as she makes it sound sometimes. Melaa is excited but seemingly sad that she is leaving her home that she has known since birth. There is still a great amount of paper work to be completed, orientation protocols to learn and other incidental tasks that will need to happen before I will take over the administration duties of the hospital and the family moves to Krandor.
Feawen has been my driving force with this endeavor ever since I informed her of it. *He looks over to Feawen and Melaa asleep in the rocking chair* I was having second thoughts and lack of doubt about taking on such a large responsibility like running a hospital, but my beloved was right by my side with her gentle reassuring touch and words of wisdom to give me the confidence that I needed to cancel any doubt of the challenges that lie ahead in the future. I do not know what my life would be like without my Forest Rose.
I have another busy day ahead of me tomorrow and I need to end this entry and get my ladies tucked warmly into bed for the night...

*Shadowleaf stands in the "quiet room" at the house in Krandor and unpacks a box of books. He finds his journal at the bottom of the box and sits down on the floor to scribe some thoughts and to take a break from moving boxes and furniture all day. Leaf knows that Feawen is busy in the back room clearing out some storage crates and preparing our new pantry with little Melaa right by her side, helping mom with her rearrangement of the kitchen area. He opens his journal, flips to the next clean page and scribes down a few thoughts*
The many long trips from Ft. Llast are almost finished now, might be able to get the last of our stuff in more trip. The final paper work came through from the hospital's board of directors and I am now the official head master of the Krandor Hospital. Even though my recent nights have been long behind a desk cluttered with piles of paper work, I feel a sense of gratitude each day I walk the streets of Krandor, knowing that I was given an opportunity from Miss Gala to continue a much needed service, not just to the town of Krandor, but to all who are in need of such services the hospital can offer and provide.
I learned from my father a long time ago, that on the battlefield, field medics are just as valuable as a towering front line soldier. I know that many field medics have perished in the war across the lands as well. Those vital pieces on the battlefield will need to replenished as soon as possible. I am thinking that perhaps the hospital could become a modified learning institution for individuals that are willing to become a fully trained and qualified field medic bearing the seal of the Krandor Hospital. They could be called to aid the allied forces on the battlefront and replace those units that are in need of additional medics. I will propose that idea at the next Stewards meeting.
I will have to check my upcoming meeting schedule and make the time to schedule a sit down meeting with the stewards of the hospital and see what they think would be best plans of actions for the future endeavors of the hospital and the research foundation. I am so lucky that I became head master of the hospital at a time with a division of stewards that are not only very beneficial to the Hospital and what it stands for, but they are also a team of key advisors to the future growth and prosperity of the hospital. I will enjoy working with them side by side as my colleagues. After all that is currently going on in the world, I am not sure who has made it through and survived the outbreak of war and still alive today. I need to send word to all the Stewards and inform them that an Stewards meeting will be scheduled for them to attend. Hopefully all the birds I send out with info will reach their targets alive and well.
The family loves the new house and they are both adjusting well. Melaa has a large room now with ample space to grow and is excited about the freedom of the house and the running areas that it provides. The indoor Archery range that I have set up has intrigued Melaa, and she keeps asking me to attach the string to her bow, but I think another year of learning the proper stance and follow though will make her a stronger and more precise archer in the future...
*Leaf then hears a knock at the front door. He gets up and goes to see who it could be. Upon opening the door, he looks to down to a little girl standing on the doorstep and she looks up to him saying*
"Hello Sir..my name is Nikki and I live just over there a ways and I was wondering if that little girl that I have seen around lately lives here?. If so, could she perhaps come out and play with me?"
*Leaf is taken by the child's good manners and replies to her with a gentle voice*
"Why Hello Nikki, I am Mr. A'nadivian, that little girl you have seen is my daughter, Melaa. Hold her one second, I will see if she is still in the back helping her mother."
*Leaf turns around and calls out toward the back of the house*
"Melaa, you have a visitor, come her Love..."
*After a few seconds a little 6 year old elven girl appears skipping from the back with mom in tow and begins to talk to the girl*
"Hiya..I've seen you running around town, Im Melaa and these are my parents"
*Melaa motions to Leaf and Feawen standing behind her and then returns back to ask her new friend a question*
"Wanna go climb that big Willow Tree out front with me?"
*Nikki replies that she thinks that sounds like fun idea!*
*Melaa turns to her parents and asks them if it is ok for her to go outside for a while and play with Nikki*
*Leaf and Feawen look to each other with a slight concern having just moved to a new town, but they know that their little angel needs to have some fun and find some new friends in Krandor. Leaf kneels down to both the little girl's heights and instructs them to stay in the front area of the house so he can keep an eye on them and don't wonder off. He finishes with telling the girls to have fun and to be careful while climbing that tree*
*They both watch Melaa as she runs out the house, giggling along with her new friend. Leaf and Feawen are very happy that Melaa has found a new friend in Krandor and the both of them go back to unpacking and setting up their new home.*

*Leaf works in his office late into the evening, processing a few work orders before heading home for the night. He arrives to a dim and quiet house with Feawen and Melaa already tucked in their beds. He sits near the fire place and enjoys it's radiating warmth. As the fire crackles and pops, he takes some time to update his memoirs*
The hospital has been quite demanding and we have had a few setbacks since I took over as head master, especially last year when we had that unfortunate incident. It was on the 3rd of Summer Home, 1479. I was at the hospital, meeting with some of the stewards to discuss some new protocols I wanted to propose. Our talks were interrupted by the entrance of an Az'attan dark elf named Xilaorn who claimed she was not like her evil underworld kin. She spoke about wanting to help others, which was not perceived as a true statement by a few and some even questioned her true motive and why she really had walked into the hospital. She seemed a little uneasy with some of the questions regarding her Az'attan faith, and she said that she had to leave but would return back to the hospital shortly. We all looked to each other with puzzling facial expressions. Ygraine sensed something odd and quickly shifted to strengthen her awareness of her surroundings.
There was an eerie silence for a few moments until we heard the door start to open once again. Thinking the worst, Andrew let out a deafening yell to stun what we thought at the time was the dark elf returning. At the instance of Andrew's yell, we all heard a loud scream come from outside the hospital. We exited out the front door and were met to a sight of a lady and a small boy, prone and lifeless at our feet. I knelt down to the boy, only to find no pulse flowing through his veins. I glanced over to Feawen who was already assessing the lady's vitals with a sorrowful look in her eyes, she simply looked to me and shook her head "No". Andrew was devastated and fell to his knees in disbelief realizing what he had done. In all of my years knowing him, I never seen him look so shocked before. I knew he was completely devastated inside knowing that the gift of his voice had killed an innocent mother and child by accident.
We rushed the mother and boy into hospital to see if we could help them. Their life forces had completely left their bodies and we had no one in our immediate company with any skills at raising the deceased. I remembered about the House of Healing in Krandor and the competent clerics who resided there. Andrew and I quickly ran across town to the house to see if we could obtain a cleric to raise the mother and her boy. Andrew said that he was more than willing to make a healthy contribution to the cleric's choosing if he would help us. We led the cleric back to the hospital and both the mother and boy were raised back from the dead that night. The incident left some bad opinions toward Andrew and the hospital, even after a year and half later, some towns folk still grumble at the hospital when they pass by. The investigation is still ongoing and Captain Damiene has now even requested a written declaration from Andrew about the incident. I believe only time will fully heal what has been done in the eyes of the citizens of Krandor.
Feawen and I are still rearranging rooms and moving things around. We have discussed our options, and I believe we are going to have some major renovations done to the house. Currently, the house is much too big for just Feawen, Melaa and I. I have drawn up some rough sketches of how I would like the interior of house to be reconstructed. The sketches include two separate private living quarters that can be potentially rented out. Feawen has also mentioned some different things she would like done with the kitchen as well.
Melaa launched her first arrow about two months ago when I took the family out for a walk in the woods. The past three years of her practicing the proper stance, humane ethics and learning the characteristics of arrow flight without the string being attached to her bow has proven to be very beneficial in her archery training. She does not rush her shots and understands that by employing a set routine each time she shoots, her arrow grouping will be much more consistent. She loves archery and I made a promise to her a while ago that we would go and shoot bow at least once a week. I even bought Feawen a crossbow so she could join us and we have now made it a family affair. 'Wen is not one for mechanical weapons, but she likes our little contests to see who can pierce the smallest piece of fruit first.
Melaa is really showing an interest in music now, especially the piano. Even as a baby, she loved to climb onto Elly's piano back at the house in Ft. Llast and push the little white keys to hear the sounds. She is starting to also like the sounds of the mandolin and pan flute as well. I have bought a used grand piano from a man in Krandor and Melaa sometimes sits at it and pretends to play for hours. Feawen and I have decided to start Melaa's formal lessons in the piano. We were a little apprehensive in asking Andrew to teach her the piano knowing how busy he is with his new establishment in Mariner's Hold, but once he learned that Melaa was interested in the piano, he said he would make the time to be her piano mentor. Feawen is still home schooling her in the basics and our languages. Melaa always strives to do her best and not make any mistakes in her work which makes mom and dad feel proud. She is becoming a common sight at the hospital these days. She has made friends with most of the staff and loves to run down the long corridors.
One day as I was walking back to my office and I noticed her peeking through a door to one of the empty operating theaters. She asked me if we could go inside and look around. She was fascinated by all the different surgical instruments and the many shapes they came in as well. She started asking me about each instrument in great detail. I was slightly embarrassed when I could not even name half of the instruments on the shelf. I showed her where a patient lays to be operated on and some of the various ointments and potions used during surgery. I have asked Clasina, one of the hospital's surgical nurses, to accompany Melaa in the operating theater someday and show her all the different items of an operating theater, something I know Melaa will truly find enlightening.
