Title: Multiclassing Paladins, Druids & Monks
Post by: lonnarin on April 05, 2010, 08:28:05 PM
Quick question here.  If a druid, monk or paladin decide to take a class but maintains their oaths, can they keep the old benefits of their class?  To list some examples, if a Paladin of Vorax decides to start taking Weaponmaster of the axe or Dwarven Defender levels, would Vorax deny him his holy smite?  Given the faith, those classes almost seem to have a synergy with their codes.  If a Monk decides to stay unarmored and unarmed, could they branch out into something like shadowdancing and still get to use their heal abilities & stunning strikes?  A Paladin of Lucinda discovering his innate talent at sorcery, Would Lucinda ignore him and make his become a fighter rebuild?  How about if a druid decides to learn ranger skills and become more adept at stealthing through the woods and tracking things in wolf form?

I know that a CDQ is required to return to the class for more levels, but until then, are all their former class abilities & spells restricted?

There is a certain amount of taking things on a case by case basis, but in general if you multiclass away from paladin or druid you lose the benefits of those classes, since ICly you receive powers as a matter of active connection to deity/nature, and taking another class is moving away from that.

Monks, on the other hand, generally keep their powers, since going in another direction doesn't "undo" previous training.

There are a few unresolved issues or RP exceptions, but that's generally how it works.

One exception certainly might be Paladin -> Cleric, since you're in no way departing from the faith.

As ycleption said, however, it's very case-by-case.

Or Paladin -> Champion; -> Wizard (if you're a Lucindite); -> Druid to ranger; Paladin to Sacred Fist...  *shrugs*

Any of those sound legit?

These depend on case by case situation. Deity and RP weigh in heavily and we can give no cut and dried answer for generalities.

As there is no Champion of Lucinda, the first one's out, at least.
