Title: Hlint quarantined
Post by: Dorganath on December 05, 2010, 07:26:56 PM
(From this thread (http://forums.layonara.com/rumour-has/282204-attack-morakens-tower-progress.html)...)

Posted in all towns throughout Trelania and along the routes approaching Hlint...

By order of Queen Mourning of Trelania, Hlint is hereby Quarantined until further notice due to an unknown contagion or substance that has affected the populace. The Queen has granted complete authority over the quarantine to the Aeridinite Sisters of Rebirth and has tasked her own forces to enforce the Quarantine, with lethal force if necessary.

Until such time as the Quarantine has been lifted, no one shall be permitted to enter or leave the walls of Hlint without the explicit permission of the Sisters of Rebirth.

*bump*

This is still in effect.  Through an error of my own, the warnings and guards were not replaced after the last server reset, but until there is an announcement to the contrary, everyone should consider Hlint as being locked down and quarantined.

For those who do not know, this is a plot-level situation, and violation of the quarantine may come with grave consequences to your character.

Anyone who did enter Hlint during my lapse should not RP that your character(s) entered Hlint . Consider that it did not happen. If the GM team finds anyone except for (currently) the one character who should be in Hlint, there may be consequences.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding. Hopefully, this will be resolved shortly.

//I apologize as this may seem like a dumb question, but I died on one of my characters and he was bound in Hlint. Currently I'm not playing him because I just figured this meant he was stuck, but does this message mean the team would prefer I removed him and rped as him never having been there, or would they prefer I leave him there until the situation is resolved. I'm fine with either, mind you, as I have plenty of other characters to play in the meantime.

I guess the question is:

Upon hearing that Hlint was quarantined, and word likely spread around rather quickly, would your character have bound himself somewhere else for the time-being?  If not, then our preference would be that he was detained like everyone else upon appearing at the bindstone.  If he would have rebound elsewhere, then do so and RP that he was not there when he respawned after dying.  If the former, then please let us know.

P.S. It's not a dumb question. :)

//Although I know I would have rebound him as a player, Nokka's terribly low wisdom score would probably make him clueless enough not to acknowledge the reality of his own death, and so, he may not have rebound. As such, I will leave him detained. I considered removing him, but I believe this is the most realistic RP situation. Thanks again.

OK!  Thanks for letting us know.  There may be some follow-up information coming your way as a result.

This is just a reminder that the quarantine is still in effect after last night's quest.

isherwood smithson returns to the Vehl temple where he hears news of the Hlint quarantine and seeks advice on whether his healing skills might be of use?

//mechanically he is immune to disease along with other clerics. Does such immunity mean clerics can enter the town to aid matters or is the disease an abnormal or not of this plane based toxicology to which the normal immunity doesnt apply IG?

My spare underclothing is on my ox in Hlint and my colleagues at the temple are starting to chatter!

Mechanically, clerics are not immune to disease. I think you're thinking of paladins.  Just as a general reference though, that immunity applies to "normal" diseases and does not necessarily extend to diseases that may be manufactured, magically enhanced or, as you observed, potentially from somewhere not of this world.

Beyond that, it's not a matter of mechanical immunities, whether they're possessed by a character or not, but the fact that every entrance to Hlint is guarded to prevent anyone who isn't explicitly permitted by the Sisters of Rebirth from entering or leaving. The guards have their orders to not let anyone in or out, and they're authorized to use deadly force if necessary.

Does that mean Hlint is impenetrable?  No, of course not.  If you want to try to negotiate your way in, that's possible.  If you want to try to fight your way in, that's possible too.  If you want to try to find some other way in, that's also possible. In any of these cases, you need to work with us though to see where it goes.

Regarding what it is...I'm not telling. It's been called a disease, plague, toxin, poison...perhaps these are accurate and perhaps they're not, but consider this:

If whatever it is responded to things like Cure Disease and Neutralize Poison, chances are very good that Hlint wouldn't still be quarantined.

*Toranite messengers are sent from Blackford Castle to outside Hlint to see if the symptoms presented are similar to the diseases or taint related to the "disease" or "poison" of the GDC.  Whatever information retrieved is then sent back to Lady Commander Stormhaven as well as Connor Garvil.*

The dwindling community of Hlint is shaken by the discovery of a murdered man, his body left at the scene of his murder. One of the young men on the property that made the discovery properly gave the few details he had then spent the day cleaning the mess as best he could for Hlint's newest orphaned family.

....On the heels of disaster and fear comes another terrifying rumor... Women and children are beginning to go missing within the walls of Hllint. The voluntary labor force has rearranged their work schedules to split between the tasks needing to be done and rotational search parties. Even though the town is quarantined several days of searching have produced only locations where the missing are not....

......A call has gone to Blackford for a fresh group of volunteer Guard to bolster the numbers within the walls of the afflicted town...

....The somber town of the sick and dying now find themselves in the tightening grip of fear while answers are sought...

...a new contingent is sent...

...some volunteers from the exterior guard move inward to town ahead of their arrival....

...between the militia and the number of guard patroling now there is an air of almost militant rule...

...without the need for an order being issued the people begin to keep to a curfew, keeping indoors after sunset. Especially the women and children, people stick to groups of three or more most of the time...

....some days after the last discovery of missing another missing person turns  up, or rather doesn't. When Elohanna is noticed to be gone, the Sister in charge of the town quarantine turns grim and says nothing except to encourage the patrols to step up their searching...

...houses are being searched now, most of the occupants allowing the practice willingly....

Upon noticing Elohanna's disappearance, Nokka devotes more than half his time to assisting the voluntary search parties and, if the guard would have him, offers to assist their endeavors as well. He also suggests other available Voraxians help in the searches, noting that such a cowardly invasion of the domestic sphere is jes' nay roight an' spittin' on tha codes'a war, an' the'r hurtin' sick folks!

.....A week goes by and the suffering continues. Elohanna does not turn up in any form. There is some grumbling that she used her witching powers to escape the quarantine but they are quelled the moment the Sisters get wind of it. With a voracious passion, they deny any such thing would happen, defending the honor of the elven woman. Each in turn shoots back in some form at the accuser, "Perhaps you should spend less time dreaming up fantasies and more time LOOKING for the murderer!"

.....Not long after the search teams realize the absence of one of their own. The rest of his group mention an attack but they have no description to offer, only that they were there and fine one moment, the next... all was darkness. The Captain redoubles his work and cautions the people of the town to stay vigilant. As well, he makes some unshared preparations. At one point he holds conference with those on the other side of the fence, several of his guard surrounding him at a distance to keep eavesdroppers at bay.

*** BUMP ***

Everyone... Hlint is STILL quarantined.  Just because we may not have the signs and guards out front (which can happen if the server crashes) doesn't mean Hlint is open. I know of over a half-dozen characters who have violated this quarantine within the last week.

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, HLINT IS OFF LIMITS TO EVERYONE, EXCEPT FOR A SELECT FEW CHARACTERS WHO SHOULD BE THERE. ANYONE ELSE FOUND TO BE IN HLINT UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED WILL LIKEWISE BE QUARANTINED, WITH POSSIBLE CHARACTER-ALTERING CONSEQUENCES.

Please, everyone...we've asked this repeatedly.  Have some respect for what we're trying to do, and for the fact that we cannot always be immediately responsive to server resets. Both Rowana and I have had extremely full schedules over the last week. I did the last reset from work and as such I was not able to get in and set things up again. At the same time, Rowana had computer troubles and also could not set things up either.  These things happen, but the RP of the world goes on. Please keep this in mind.

The server has been reset, but the signs and guards are not up because I cannot get in-game to do so. However, Hlint is still under quarantine.

So stay out.

This means you.

And then the small town was hit by a new threat... months and months of backed up mail!  As if driven to action by the Bird Lord himself, swarms upon swarms of cawing, shrieking, flapping feathery friends descend upon the town like a legion of locusts, frantically swooping down on the poor people with adeluge of previously undeliverable letters, birthday wishes and get-well-soon cards.   Nary a statue or freshly washed wagon is left unscathed by the "gifts" left behind by the wave of postal services.

//whoohoo! time to deliver some mail. ;)

Charlie waits eagerly to get in behind the scores of mailmen, a not so fresh brace of goblin ears thrown over his back.
