Rumors have begun to circulate that agents of The Silver Buckle have made inquiries into a mapping expedition of the sewer systems in Mariner's Hold, both new and old. Other unknown parties have also begun asking discreet questions.
-
Andrew and staff are told by some patrons that a gray robed fellow was seen hanging about the tavern in the busy streets and saw him discreetly inquiring into whether anyone has heard of some type of mapping expedition.
-
The staff of the Silver Buckle is alerted to let Andrew know if this fellow comes around...
-
Charlie's eyebrows shot up when he was told. Nodding briefly, "Yessir, I'll be on the watch fer em."
-
I been wandering between the stores, craft hall and the Buckle to work on some costumes ... so if I see anything, I'll give you a squeek! And he shouldn't see me, no no no ... as i wander about under cover of the invisibility spell as I do not want to become one of those "missing". But I did see a stranger in town the other day. Skinny dark skinned elf ... I avoided him, yes I did, yes yes yes. Just standing there ... watching. I gave him a wide berth. *Does a salute and wanders over to a table covered with parchment papers*.
-
*After returning from one of his famous disappearing periods, Emwonk tugs Andrew's sleeve and tries to lead him outside the Silverbuckle*
"Flow joint Emwonk, Andrew, good grounding. Flow, flow!"
-
With the world's touchiest Aeridinite, Sister Bernice, taking a rest from her work, Andrew takes some time to hunt down this grey-robed fellow. He sends a note of regret to Denock Wisefoot that the Buckle was closed the evening he dropped by and invites the man to drinks at Denock's convenience.
Andrew also alerts the entire buckle staff to be watching for a man who ignored the closed sign the same night Denock came by, one Fineas or Phineas Mulrooney. He provides a description of the older man - balding, slender, wearing reddish tights and a jacket - and asks that they warn him if they see him as he kind of, um, had to bluff his way out of admitting who he was since he had a guest there to see Sister Bernice and that required the inn be closed. He notes that Phineas claims to be Andrew Reid's biggest fan, appears unstable and fanatical, and will require careful handling.
With that, if Emwonk is willing, they flow...
-
*Emwonk waits impatiently while Andrew gives orders to the Silverbuckle staff, then tugs on the man's sleeve again to coax him outside. Once outside the Silverbuckle Emwonk leads Andrew to a spot from which can be seen the Mage's Tower of Mariner's Hold, to which he points repeatedly as he attempts to explain.*
"Unidentified entity, garbed monochromatic, querried regarding subteranean schematic acquisition joint fabrication venture flows interior specified locality. Cognate? Entity flows joint "Singular Joint Flow Collective Regarding Al'noth Improvment Repetitions", additionally Collective posesses specified locality. Cognate? Collective equals 'metallic circular conduits acquisition guides flow parameters' collective. Cognate?"
*He pauses and regards Andrew with high hopes that the man understands at least a little of what he's just said.*
-
He translates to himself but watching Emwonk's face for the hot and cold signs that he's getting it. "A person, in monochromatic - grey? a grey-robed man? - was asking about our mapping trip...he or they want to join us. He's part of the Mariner's Hold Mage's Tower...I wonder what Minu knows about them? Metallic conduits - they want to pay us to join or help them?"
-
*At first Emwonk seems pleased as Andrew translates his own words back to him, nodding as Andrew makes the connection of the grey robed man to the Mage's Tower of Mariner's Hold. As Andrew begins to speak of the group as wanting to join them, and willing to pay the Silverbuckle for help mapping the sewers Emwonk begins shaking his head to indicate that he got it all wrong.*
"Null, null. Collective requires acquire metallic circular conduits guide flow parameters. Cognate this infinitum? Motivations regarding Silverbuckle equal undefined."
*He is weakened, tired and a little crabby from the previous night's treatment with Sister Bernice, yet still he tries to maintain his patience.*
-
"They want us to pay them? They're suspicious of our motives?" He lowers his voice. "They bloody well should be, I don't intend to turn over any wholly complete version of that map, should we acquire it, to anyone but us - the city gets the sewers only. However it bears looking into..." His gaze turns from the tower to Emwonk.
-
*He sighs as he is still misunderstood and tries to explain once more*
"Singular entity requires metallic circular conduits via alternate secondary entity, subsequent acquisition metallic circular conduits secondary entity guides flow parameters singular entity. Singular entity equals...?" *the last asked as though looking for a specific word response from Andrew*
-
He rubs his face and takes another stab at translation. "...singular entity is the grey-robed man." He backs up, fiddling with his necklace, thinking aloud. "You said first...the collective - the Mage's Tower - equals True acquisition...is one where money will guide their flow parameters - they're mercenary mages?" A hopeful look at Em, this time.
-
*smiles and nods thankfully when Andrew makes the proper translation, indicating that the group at teh Mage's Tower are mercenaries*
"Emwonk null cognative regarding motivation Collective regarding Silverbuckle querry. Alternate, monochromatic garbed entity flows joint Collective, Emwonk visualed prior Sister Bernice entity flowed locality Silverbuckle."
-
"That's alright - they're mercs, so their motivation depends on who's paying them and we don't know that yet. I'll have to meet with this man...I wonder if our resident Tower Academist would be able to find out a thing or two? I'll ask her. Thanks Em." With a pause for Emwonk to say anything else on his mind, Andrew heads back to the Buckle to find Elohanna...
-
*Emwonk decides no further comment is needed and follows Andrew back into the Silverbuckle. He then heads to the nearest pile of cushions near a fireplace and curls up to rest and regain his strength.*
-
As Andrew approaches her for her help she offers to personally pay a visit to the Tower if needed, but offers what information she is able to about the Tower she may already know.
-
After a brief, whispered conference with Andrew, Charlie parks himself in a corner of the Mariners Hold Market and attempts to make contact with the shadier elements of the Hold.
-
//PM's sent...
-
Charlie sprints back to the Buckle using the back alleyway and weasels his way through his secret door after looking around carefully. Finding Andrew, he looks very excited and more than a little worried. In whispered tones, "Mister Andy..there's Raelite agents askin bout the Buckle..yerself, and the sewers."
-
"A Raelite. Stars and bloody..." After an extended tour of the most colorful Old Tilmarian curses, he rubs his thumb over his upper lip. "What I still haven't figured out is how this trip got to be so well known. I can only assume someone overheard something from the tavern. Very well, I have a valid reason for wanting to know what the sewer layout is, and as the city itself cannot provide it...thank you Charlie. Did you perchance overhear names, or can you describe them to me? Or are they simply asking for a meeting?"
Much later he asks Elohanna to please check all the wards on the Inn and contract the Tower Academy to renew or strengthen anything that requires it, and asks Paddy to do another run-through of the physical security measures.
-
Charlie scratches his head, "No names that I heard, but they was definitely dwarves but they did have robes with hoods on so I can't say what they look like exactly. Word on the street was they was from the Embassy here in the hold. Oh..they seemed ta know who all of us here in the buckle fairly well. Watcha want me ta do now, Mister Andy?"
-
*Melody pops into the Buckle and looks for Andrew. Upon seeing him, she races over a bit winded,* Sir Andrew Sir Andrew! *Yanking on his clothing as she jumps upon him* Outside! *Pointing frantically at the door* There is a human in grey robes ... watching the place ... *She quickly speaks the incantation of an invisibility spell over Andrew and her* He's been watching the front, go out back door or window .... he's in alley way across the street ... go go go.
-
He dispels the illusion, straightening his jacket and checking his hair. "Thank you Melody, but I think this needs to be dealt with directly. I doubt invisibility would fool him, he's likely got sight on. However, if you could keep an eye from some concealment? If he's paying attention to me, perhaps he won't notice you - maybe from the window here?" He motions Charlie to head out by another direction and points to his eyes and then the alley, trusting the man knows what he wants. Singing to himself a spell of legend lore, elemental protection, and his most powerful mage armor spell*, he steps out.
//*epic
-
Charlie gives a brief nod and slips out the back quickly. Glancing around, he shimmies up to the roof and creeps into an overlook position to watch Andrew's back, his bow and a few arrows laid out beside him.
-
// Very good. I want to RP this interaction IG as a little impromptu type of event. It should not be very long. I'll keep my eyes open for you guys and gals... ;)
-
*Having overheard the commotion as Melody found Andrew, Emwonk rouses himself groggilly from his rest, slipping on his best gear for sneaking around unseen and unheard, he slips out after Andrew to monitor the situation.*
-
When she is able to get Andrew to slow down she sits down and explains to him about the Tower in Mariners Hold.
Tashe,The Mage's Tower is known as "The Union of Al'Noth Practitioners" and currently maintains a register of approximately 15 full-fledged members, and double that in initiates. Their numbers fluctuate as membership is not for life and is dependent upon the paying of dues. They have experts in all specializations, but necromancers and summoners are restrained in various ways in how they can operate. They hire out their services in a plethora endeavors, and have a keen interest in the defense and politics of their host city.
They still retain a significant influence in many political circles, even though mages and practitioners of magic are regarded less highly than they were in years prior to the tsunami and Rael's gracious offers of assistance in rebuilding.
The King maintains a moderate amount of control over their activities through formal agreements in which he provides significant tax concessions to the group and allows them residence in Mariner's Hold in exchange for their services when required and a non-competition agreement where they cannot make their services available to competitors of the realm.
Their current grandmaster is Albionus Sarschesy, a human male in his late 50's who is well known for being an eloquent orator. The order is non-denominational, but usually refrains from voting to accept individuals who are devotees of evil gods. They also have rules of procedure in place to strip members of affiliation who break or circumvent by-laws."
She then again offers that if he would like she can go visit Albionus herself, there may be things she can learn and understand and if he has any questions he would like her to ask, it would be a great opportunity.
-
"Love, please do. They sound interesting and I'd like to know more - sounds like you would too. I wonder, if they turn out to be reasonable, if they'd be interested in partnering with the Tower Academy?"
-
*Melody goes where directed, her spell still on. She picks a spot where there is no background light to have her shadow giver her away, and waits, watching carefully. Looking at all details in the surrounding area of her view.*
-
Elohanna smiles at him reassuringly and nods. "I write a letter to Albionus Sarschesy, seeking a visit."
-------------------------------------
She then heads to her own desk upstairs and begins writing said letter.
"Dear Mage Albionus Sorchesy of the Union of Al'noth Practioners.
I am writing to you to request an audience at your earliest convenience. My Name is Elohanna Min A'Litae, Priestess of Aeridin, and Instructor at the Tower Academy in Port Hempstead. I pray that my Healing Light sees it into your heart to grant me this request as it is a matter of utmost importance. It is perhaps also a chance for us to build a friendship between our two institutions."
Sincerely,
Elohanna Min A'Litae
Priestess of His Healing Light
Instructor, Tower Academy, Port Hempstead
