Server Rules / RE: Clerics, Paladins, Druids, Champions, or Monks« on: January 13, 2005, 02:42:00 PM »
Are you saying that you are going to be forcing players to use the exact colors of their characters deity and the shield pattern that goes for that deity among other things?
This all just sounds overly strict to me. It seems like you are focusing on the things that really shouldn’t matter. Each character is unique and these rules and dogmas should be guide lines for role-playing certain classes. Forcing everyone to look the same and act the same just doesn’t seem right to me. If you didn’t want clerics to use certain weapons then you should have made a rule that says clerics can only use blunt weapons and the weapon of their chosen god. Sounds lot easier then grabbing players in the middle of game and basically telling them they are wrong and have to change and that goes for anything along those lines. A lot of the handbooks rules as far as these classes you are “cracking down on” seem to have been written so that players could interpret them on their own and with in reason of course of course. Now as far as role-playing who is to really say who is right and who is wrong. Being that each player and character is different and has their own history, personalities, and goals who is to really say that one person is better then another or that some one role-plays better? I think everyone should remember that we are here to have fun and to not let the little stuff like what color armor some one is wearing or what weapon they are using turn this server into and overly strict place where you have to watch everything you say or do for fear that big brother will come crashing down on you. Thanks for reading and see you all in game.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / RE: Market Tables« on: December 25, 2004, 08:36:00 AM »
Second server I was an admin on had player vendors. What we did was have the items that each vendor had for sale listed and the actual item was stored out of game like with the bank money…to keep the lag down. So for example you walk up to Mr.Smith’s vendor and talk to it and instead of showing the items for sale it can listed them. Course if you do that you’ll need to set up a list some where of every single craftable item and what it does so people know what they are buying…that list could be set up on the forums though.
You could do that here I think…if you can figure out how. I don’t really think we should have 50 player vendors hanging around Hlint though. Maybe a maximum of 2-8 player vendors per town depending on the size of the town and the cost of each vendor could depend on the town size and location as well. Also the vendors themselves should take at least 10% of what ever the player earns from sales. Hlint, Port Hampshire, and Pranzis would be prime real-estate I think. Player vendors shouldn’t be cheap…my opinion though. Also I’d like to see the vendors spread out and look different from one another in each town. When I first got here they were all stuffed in one building and were all the same guy. Maybe they could all wear the same color tunic to say they are a player vendor. Just some ideas there. Edit: Also doing it this way will keep people from selling goods to player vendors when they shouldn't be to begin with. 3
Server Rules / RE: Polymorphed in town and/or buy/crafting« on: November 17, 2004, 09:01:00 PM »
I don’t see why the wizard has to be witless. I mean he could be a necromancer and that undead could be his personal assistant and or bodyguard to protect him from the overly righteous paladin…I think you see the point I’m trying to make there.
Each character is unique and just as that witless wizard should respect the paladins views that very same overly righteous paladin needs to respect that wizard and his view. Saying that there are situations where people are forced to not play their characters is wrong. In my opinion they choose not to and complain because it is easier then role playing an argument they might not win with said witless wizard. If both sides role play and respect each other then their really won’t be any problems and lets face it there were no problems before this and there really is no need for rules like no pets and no shape changing in towns. I think Leanthar has made the right decision. People shouldn’t be using polymorphed forms while crafting and that is where all this came from. As far as bad rp to be shape-changed or polymorphed in town. I don’t think it is at all. Let the player decide what his character would or wouldn’t do with such abilities. Besides pets and shape-changing make for some interesting and fun roleplaying for a lot of people out there. Talking it out of the towns where people meet up just takes away from the fun and weird stuff that happens. 4

I played on a server that wouldn't allow pets in towns and it took away from the role playing greatly. Turns your character pets basically into fighting machines with no real rp value. How do other characters really get to know your character and their pets if the only time they get to see them is outside town and lets face it if you are outside town then 99% of the time your gonna be killing something or getting crafting resources.
Polymorphing and shapechanging is pretty much the same way. I can understand if you don't want people using it for crafting...that's one thing I can understand and agree with, but to take away a great role playing tool like that...I mean come on. You really can't jump on shapechangers for being monsters in town when you've got orcs, half-orcs, goblins, tieflings, half-giants, ogres, drow, and dark dwarves as PCs running around these very same towns. They would scare the crap out these peasants just as much as a troll or pixie would. I honestly don't see why all the sudden you need to change the rules and I honestly don't care about the imaginary peasants...I care more about the interaction between players, the role playing, and taking away these things just hinders roleplaying in general. I say leave things the way they were and just set up a rule that says you can't use polymorphed/shapechanged forms for crafting purposes. A simple rule like that puts everyone on the same playing field as far as crafting goes and let’s face that’s what this is really about. Sorry if I sound harsh in anyway that not my intention, but I am passionate about this and really do feel that it makes more problems then it fixes and takes away from certain classes and characters roleplaying. 5
General Discussion / RE: Custom Portraits« on: November 17, 2004, 09:23:00 AM »
Not sure if this portrait is in the big portrait download Layonara has, so I'm gonna post it here for those that know my new character Arturo or for those who just hate seeing that blank default portrait.

Roleplaying / RE: Soul Stones - A request to players.« on: October 17, 2004, 09:58:00 PM »
I totally understand where she is coming from and if I was a cleric I wouldn't raise anyone at all...that's just me though. I lose enough exp dieing...rasing on top of that...ugh!
As for the soul stones, well yeah I'm sure more of us would carry them if we could afford to buy them. 2200gp might not be a lot to you, but to others it's a small fortune. I get what you are saying though.
