Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Question about Wemics
« on: February 03, 2025, 12:26:47 PM »
"Druids may use any natural weapon that comes from nature and is not processed. Examples include staves, clubs, branches, whips that are not made of metal, sickles since their blades are sharpened stone. They may not use weapons that are not natural or that have been processed or refined except for the following allowance.  NWN Note: Mechanically, stone weapons (such as stone bullets for slings) do not exist in-game (IG), the lone exception being a stone dagger. However, the use of metal sickles and sling bullets is allowed, with the caveat that the weapon in question is role-played as being made of stone. Otherwise, the only metal weapon a druid would use is a scimitar, as noted below.
In part of keeping the balance of nature the hierarchy realizes that a druid may need to fight creatures that are resistant to their normal blunt style weapons. As such the hierarchy has determined that the use of a scimitar should be allowed for the protection of a druid. This is the only processed and refined weapon that is allowed to be used by a druid."

You can take the martial proficency as Milty noted but you must curb its use to bow and not a compound or "enhanced" bow.  The shortbow is something a Wemic might use but not a long bow.  Weapons are restricted to sickle and scimitar.  This restriction applied to axes and picks but skinning knives and gem chisels are marked Druid.

The feat is not 'given' in game by a GM, it is something you pick at level up when offered

Character Submissions / Re: Revial of Jacee
« on: September 08, 2024, 09:53:15 PM »
Jacee dropped from the adventuring community when her good friend Katrien was left as a single mother .  She hung up her sword and armor for a time to help raise the child and work with Foundation behind the scenes.  When Lisse' was a teenager she met and married a merchant from Fort Llast.  He was a widower with children from his previous relationship.  She was quite content to mother and raise them but the youngest has been out of the nest for almost 5 years and her husband recently passed leaving her alone in a big house.  She had aided the militia from Fort Llast from time to time training new recruits but has been well out of practice, hence restarting her at level 1 again.

She gains no advantage from the business connections or wealth of her late spouse and his backstory is open to GM machinations should the team so desire.

Marcus,
I don’t know how you endured your years in the militia.  These endless mind numbing drills are killing me.  Every night I climb in my hammock and swear I’m going to wake in Center. Up and down the rigging, hauling endless lengths of rope and then there is the sparring.  At least training dummies don’t hit back by the goddess; it jars the shoulder.
We’re still a few weeks out from Audria and things have been quiet.  No pirates, no flaming beings, not that I expected those , I mean , hello water and wooden ships.  They could hire mercenaries though.
I was a teenager the last time I made such a long voyage.  That was a while ago.  The days are spent getting my fighting skills up to par with the rest of the crew.  The captain has given up trying to get me to use a large blade but she thinks I show promise with daggers and shortswords. She’s been showing me how to fight more effectively.  It's not pretty, showy or dancing but its quick strikes aimed at major blood vessels and tendons.  She says that being a smaller female has its advantages and unless they have plate armor over the important bits I can always find a way to disable a foe.
The evenings, when I can stay awake , I’ve been learning new songs from the crew. Many of the tasks aboard involve the rigging of the sails and ropes.  The men like to sing to keep everyone’s actions in time and the lyrics they come up with are very inventive.  I think you’ll like them but best keep little Kyle ears covered. The crew is also from so many different parts of the world and their stories could keep me entertained for days on end.  Don’t get me started with the card and dice games.
Hugs to Maddie , I have to get this to the captain before she sends the raven without it.

Lisse’

ps
I think I might have spotted a sea elf in the waves watching the ship.  I hope that means Shinney is watching over us.

note left on the table of the Foundation’s relief kitchen

Mary,
Workmen will be coming to repair the practice dummies in the training yard.  Charlee , need I say more.
If you could air the spare room in the town house, it would be appreciated.  Auntie Jacee might be coming to stay for a while.  Won’t that be fun?  I might be away for a while.  I’ll try and bring you something from port and maybe some fresh fish
Hugs

Katelyn,

I can’t believe you did that to Thomas.  Serves him right for all the pranks he’s played on us over the years.  I wish I had been there to see him running from the house when that giant spider crawled onto his bed.  I know how much he hates them.  I hope you did something nice for the lady that charmed it and led it into his bedroom.
I’ll be sailing to Audria soon with one of Mother’s shipments as both her liaison and part of the guards.  I’m not sure we’ll get too much trouble as we’re not sending the large ship, just one of the faster mid sized ones.  That means less crew for protection but we should get there in about half the time depending on the seas.
Remember when we used to race to the top of the rigging?  Seems like forever ago.  You went and got married and started a family.  I’m still here helping Mary in the kitchens and yelling at warehouse workers though I have started wandering a bit more.   I’ve been gathering some songs from Dregar and Belinara.  I’ve been as far as the new city of Fireoz, but I can’t say I was impressed with it.  Far too staid and gloomy for my liking.  I hear the lands around it have fire giants and there is a large area of very powerful undead.   Mother has been there with a new mage friend but there is no way I am stepping foot in that direction anytime soon.  I do good to keep the lizardmen around Hlint at bay.

I’ll be doing drills with the crew while I am aboard so I can make myself useful. Scurrying up ropes with a dagger between your teeth is harder than it looks. I’ve Mother’s old Songstress rapier to practise with too.  I just need Thomas’s head and an apple.
I’d bring the children back something from Audria but with the city under siege I don’t think they’ll be much for sale.  I’ll see what I can find.
My best to Thomas and the children.  I miss our chats Katelyn . Promise I will pop by next time I am close.   Can you do me a favour and go around to Auntie Jacee’s house and check in on her?  I worry she’s lonely now with the house empty.  Take one of the babies, you know how much she loves babies.

Hugs

Auntie Jacee,

Just a quick note to let you know you’re in my thoughts.   So much has changed in the past few months it feels like a wind elemental is running the show.  I’m still working in the foundation but Mother, as you know, is back on the trail of adventure and spends much of her time in that pursuit, leaving me to oversee the warehouse.  Not that this place needs much of me. Mother has an excellent staff and heavens forbid that any of them should ever leave us.  Mary alone is a force of Katia in the kitchens.  How she manages to feed so many needly with what we have amazes me.  She just brushes it off and reminds me she cooked at her grandmother’s side during the darkness when there really was next to nothing.
The kitchen larder is full to bursting as Auntie Anna and Uncle Conner sent in a wagon of extras from their farm.   With all out extras going to Audria, it really helps
How are you making out?  I hope those children of yours come to visit far more often than I do.  It must be lonely in that big house all alone.   Uncle Edward has been gone for almost three years now.  You are still young enough to get out and do things.  I hate the idea of you being there by yourself.   You know there is always room for you here in Port Hempshire.  It would sort of be like old times to have you back.   You and Mary could wile your days away in the kitchens or you could keep those dock workers in line.   I could sure use your help with my training with the sword.   Things are not quite the same as when you adventured across the lands.   When the dragon stopped calling the numbers risking the stones dropped and I fear only a handful of us are left.   I now must venture alone most of the time.  I need to get better with my sword so I have put my lore and musical training on hold until I get more proficient.  You were quite the swordswoman in your day.   How about you come spend some time with us and teach me?   Old Bill the man at arms is good but with trouble seeming to brew in Dregar he’s occupied training militia and with the city.

Please consider my request.
Love and Hugs

Character Submissions / Revial of Jacee
« on: August 26, 2024, 11:06:55 AM »
Orginal Bio

Full Name:  Jacee
Age: 36
Class(es): Fighter
Race: Human
Subrace: Aasimar
Alignment: NG
Deity:
Domains (if cleric):
Short Bio/Description:

Before you stands a woman.  Defiant is the word that best describes her.  She has a physique that is well above average, especially given her age. Her close cropped hair is so blonde it is almost white.  Her eyes are the color of emeralds and when her gaze turns upon you; your insides squirm as if she can see your darkest secret.  They are a mother’s eyes.

This is Jacee. No surname is necessary or wanted.  It is obvious from her bearing that she is not of common birth. She is indeed the daughter of a minor noble; a man noble in title only, not in deed; a man driven to subjugate those weaker than he. Jacee’s mother, Novais, was said to be her image, as each of that female line has been for unnumbered generations. It is whispered Novais was a bride of force rather than willing and that she died under suspicious circumstances when Jacee was but a baby.  Her brothers are her father’s get on a series of other willing and unwilling brides. She was bartered to her husband in exchange for lands and trade agreements.  His taunting and ridicule about her unusual looks has hardened her soul. She has seen injustice done at the hand of her father, brothers and husband. She has done her duty as daughter, sister, and wife.

Now is her time.  In secret she has trained with the blade of her husband. She has bribed the family weapons master to tutor her in the ways of the sword.   It has taken all her courage to break with her family and leave their cruelty behind.  She seeks to somehow balance the scales of her life.  She was raised to believe that the strong rightfully dominated the weak because they could.  Her inner voice has told her this is wrong.  She knows she has a calling to be different, she is unsure what that calling is and if at her age, it may be too late.

(I’m not sure at this time how this character will progress. She may stay a pure fighter, or she may find she has a religious calling for paladin or cleric. Again, which god she would follow is not clear at this time, I suspect Toran or Vorax.  I will re submit at that time if it occurs.)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had her deleted back when we were only allowed 6 and I needed space for a quest only character (CiCI)
Now that the limit has been upped I have a hankering to play her again
I would of course start her from 1 again and if necc write an appropriate backstory to cover her absence from the adventuring world but not Layonara proper
Is this possible?

Charlee waves to the clerk as she drags in more bags

Riven contracted me for topaz, sapphire and fireopals.  Filled his quota for all them.  Brought 100 topaz, 10 fire opals, 10 sapphires and put them in his crate over there  ( 100 @ 100ea [10,000] + 20 @ 250ea [5000]= 15000 true he ows me.  He can find me or leave it with you, I don't care either way

Lia was worried the coal I put in the store chests might get snapped up by some other crafters so I brought her a crate of her own and a crate of glass to go with it.  I put another 37 glass in the storeroom.  She can leave the payment with you for me to pick up later or seek me out.  (37@50ea [1850] + 37@97ea [3589] = 5439.

You can add the crate of glass to my store credit  [7050 previous + 3589new = 10539]

Charlee pops in with a few large sacks over her back

Drop off for Lia  Places 57 Raw Topaz,59 raw sapphires and 99 Raw Fire Opals in her crate   That should keep her a bit

I also mined a bit of Platinium and Coal whilie I was cutting gems.  22 bars and 53 coal lumps placed into to stock.  Might as well start me a tab since I have a feeling I'll be doing more mining for them.

(22 x 200/ea ingot of Plat  + 53  x 50ea lump  = 7050 credit)

Aunt Anna and Uncle Connor

Thank you ever so much for your most recent delivery of fruits and vegetables from the farm.   Mary was over the moon to have such nice things for her kitchen and it will be much appreciated by the families she serves from that kitchen.   The fruit has been set aside to dry for the next shipment we need to send.   If there is anything left to preserve from the fresh veggies, which I highly doubt, Mary will be right on it.
I’m sorry I was not here to accept the delivery myself and the fellows in the warehouse didn’t tell me who brought it.  I’ve been out and about lately having gotten a bit of the wandering fever.  I thought I had hung up my sword for good when my mother did , but then she started training again and working with the men at arms.   She would come home with tales of her travels in the Deep and with the things she’d find along the way. She spends less time with her music and more with her weapons these days.
I have to confess that I too have been conflicted with my studies of Heartsong.  What comes naturally to Mother does not come to me.   I can sing and play, I’ve no problems with that but finding my calling in the Harmony is eluding me.
Uncle Jharl used to talk of their being those in the northern tribes that could tell tales like we sing songs.  The tales were told so expertly that they seem to come to life in the minds of those listening and the weaver of the tale being able to affect the minds of their audience without even singing a note.  He also told myths of singers with quite fantastical skills.  I’m not sure if they were to entertain me or inspire me but now that I am unhappy with my lot as a merchant and diplomat’s daughter, I can’t help but wonder what kind of truth lay behind those myths.   Truth beyond the skaldic traditions and my ability to sing a momentary storm of ice over an area.
I’ve decided that if I am to search for truth I need to be able to defend myself better.  Slipping on a shroud of invisibility is no longer enough.  I’m getting more proficient with a short sword and have taken up the bow.  I doubt I will even be as good with a bow as my mother, but I think my heritage as an elf makes it easier for me to draw.
I’ve also been working with our man at arms but I have gained the companionship of several adventures as well.  There are far fewer now than there used to be, which is also why I feel I must set aside my pursuits of music in favour of the sword for a while.
You and Uncle Connor have always encouraged me to be who I am and to not be ashamed or try to hide my dark elf heritage.  I can’t help but think that maybe that is why I am struggling; because I am different.   Maybe this fabled council was right and I am destined to be a curse?  I’m not sure if I should attempt to seek Olist Orbin or whatever that city was called or if I should seek help on the elven island?   Help from the very elven council that wanted me put to death or locked away?   Please don’t mention this to Mother.  It’s not something I want to share with her just yet.
Maybe the next time I pass through Krandor I will find you or Uncle home and we can share a nice cuppa and watch the children play.

Fond regards

Lisse

Character Submissions / Re-submission Lisse Hommell for fighter levels
« on: August 23, 2024, 07:03:17 PM »
Orginal Bio

Character Name: Lisse’ Hommel
Race: Half-elf
Age: 17
Class: Bard 15 (apply later for Skald 5)
Alignment: NG
*on the steps of the Hlint courthouse is gathered a group of young people. The perpetual grayness that mars the skies does not seem to be a damper on the festivities that are occurring this day. It is clear to any that observe closely that this is a wedding party. Flowers laced with silk ribbons thread through the bride’s hair as the early winter winds brush past and rustle the heavy brocade satin of her gown. Tiny flakes of snow settle on the jet black hair of the groom and melt to leave tiny shiny spots on the fine leather and jersey of his officer’s dress uniform. At the side of the groom stands a young woman. Her smile announces her obvious pleasure at the union and the affection in her eyes for the young man is clearly that of a sisterly nature. Her dark auburn hair is a striking contrast to the pale, almost grey tone to her skin. But the color her skin lacks is more than made up for by the vibrancy of her emerald eyes and rosy cheeks and lips. The tinkle of her laughter lingers around the couple as she breaks into song. A practiced and promising voice it is that sings the couple to an uncertain but loving future. The party makes it way along the avenues of Hlint to the doorstep of a modest working class home. Here they enter and the sounds of the celebration last well into the night and early morning. With the coming of the dawn, people slowly and sleepily emerge to find their way home. Careful they are to travel in groups as the desperate nature of the times still finds those bold enough to waylay the unwary even within the town.
The singer makes her way to up the stairs of a large home and places her key in the lock to enter. She shrugs off her well made and heavy woolen cloak onto a chair and lets the snow melt from it, the water contained in one place. She quietly makes her way down the hallway into a grand room lined with bookcases and in the corner an ever roaring fire. A small smile crinkles her eyes as she slides gracefully into a chair beside a carved table. She does not appear sleepy as she opens a forest green leather bound book and begins to write.*
Well, it is done. The last of Ellen and Nathan’s brood are married off and their legacy will continue. Even in these dark times it is possible to find something to smile about. They are my family yet sometimes I am left to wonder what family means and really who mine actually is. I know who my mother is; I have never known my father. My mother has no true sisters and brothers, but I am not lacking for aunts and uncles. Ellen was my wet nurse when mother was unable. She is sort of my mother as she stepped in to care for me often when mother would be away on business. Jacee is mothers best friend and an always a watchful eye over me. She smiles little but when she does it lights her face. The years I think have softened my stern auntie for now her bark is much softer. Then again perhaps it is me who has changed.
As for fatherly figures I have an armful. Nathan has ever present been there for me. I can remember the sting of his hand on my backside for the childish pranks Ethan and I were constantly playing. I think he considers me as much his as his seven own. Handsome Jharl still designs to sing to me and I very much enjoy the strength and passion in his music. Mother’s music is powerful as well, but Jharl’s is different. It is something I wish he would teach me, but he will not go against mother’s words and her constant nattering about how Sound creates. Mikey has been gone for almost a year. I miss his half giant ways and I sure miss the rides on top of his shoulders. His strength and poise have inspired me that even though I am tainted I can perhaps achieve something in this world. That being different is not always bad and I have to believe in myself.
iUncle Connor, like mother is rarely around these days. Where mother is wound up in guild business, Uncle Connor is wound in church business. His devotion to Lucinda is admirable and though we have a small shrine to the Lady of Spells in mother’s study, I really cannot say I have the same devotions to her. There are so many other ways of thinking and so many others ways of doing out there to explore that I cannot give myself over to one deity I think. Mother calls Ilsararins daydreaming fools, and having heard tales of some of them I have to tend to agree, but I do think they have lovely songs and art to their credit. Some of the Lucindite festivals I have attended were marvelously fun, but at some deep level I have to agree with mother that the average Lucindite cleric has the decorum of a fishmonger. No offense I hope to the fishmongers. The ones that mother chose for my lessons were quite level headed, but then, she chose them. She also chose my tutors in Elven and my tutors in art and literature as well as the master in charge of my numbers.
The Az’attan priestess that she chose for me was the best though. I liked Ewamy for her stories of the Underdark as well as her knowledge of the songs and such. Mother was able to teach me the language but Ewamy made it come alive. There is a part of me that yearns to travel there, to see my father’s home but that part is also scared. I have heard the stories, listened to my mother cry, seen the anger and felt the shame of my father. I do not wish that which is in me somewhere to rise to the surface. The vileness of my ancestors sickens yet fascinates me. At times a rage reddens my eyes and coldness grips my heart that I cannot explain. These thoughts I have shared with none save Jacee. Her reaction was not what I had thought. Given her hate for my father I expected anger from her. She merely took my hand and told me that it was to be expected, but I must learn to channel those feeling into the right avenues of power. The strong have a responsibility to protect those weaker than them, not an advantage to control them. She said I must learn to understand these feelings and then use them wisely. Jacee always says the oddest things. I detest when she turns those eyes of hers on me. I think she is at times looking for Menvis in my soul. She has yet to frown when doing so I don’t think she has ever found him, but the Gods it makes me squirm.
Mother and I have been at odds lately. She seems preoccupied with business in Port Hampshire and across the sea in Dregar. She says the Dragoncalled are no more. She was haunted by dreams of dragons. She still tosses in her sleep at times and I have seen her drawings of the metallic dragons she told me of. I long to see these things for myself, but I fear them also. I think the time has come for me to take that step out on my own, to be the person I am inside and not be afraid. Caro has asked me to stay with her while her husband is out on patrol. I think it would be a good time to leave Mother to her life and spread my own wings. Perhaps with me gone from the house she will feel less obligated to be a mother and more to be a woman. It has been years since that distinguished man in the red and black robes visited the house. She should get on with her life just as I need to get on with mine.
*she closes her book and takes a look around the room before heading upstairs. In a comfortable room she removes a small satchel and places a few pieces of clothing, some songbooks, scrolls and trinkets. She removes a well worn but cared for hickory bow from the wall and places it beside the satchel. Then she snakes a hand under the bed to pull out a carefully wrapped morning star with a shiny copper shield. Adding them to the pile, she neatly stacks them by the bedroom door before sitting on the edge of the bed. Framed on the bedside table is a painting of a large black panther. She takes the frame in her hand and sadly looks at the picture, tracing the powerful but kindly features with a finger before curling up with it and drifting off to sleep*
/// Lisse’ will have a starting Intelligence of 14(+2) to qualify for both the elven and Drow languages having been tutored extensively in both since a young child. I understand that Skald will not be approved on creation and I will keep a character development journal and reapply for it at a later date

If she had a CDJ, I can't seem to find it so I will be starting a new one.   Submitting for fighter levels (5 or 6 - five taken consecutively, we'll see about more as she delvelps)   Skald is not out of the realm of possibility but with Jharl not playing she'd have to find a new mentor as the GM pool for CDQ is thin.  Will apply again if she goes that route.
