Anyway, you request a reason why they're not allowed in the city, here it is:
The Port Hempstead Dockworkers guild consists mostly of your standard human. Half giants or half orcs with their strength and size are a threat to the livelihood of the regular human dockworker, so they're barred from the city after successful lobbying and bribing of the PHDG led to this rule implementation by the Port Hempstead authorities. This conforms to my impressions of Port Hempstead from my first visit in a long time. Between the sign outside and the statuary dedicated to the heroes who defended the city from drow, dwarf and goblin assaults, it was simple to conclude that the city is strongly bigoted... perhaps understandably so, but bigoted nonetheless. Just posting because these cues were entirely legible to my noobish eye and did not seem contrived. Hempstead comes off as a militaristic, xenophobic city.

Thanks jrizz - When you say there's a goblin build, do you mean the entry for the goblin subrace on the lore pages? I was asking about the model/skin I suppose. The goblin PC I saw a few years back was hit with /SetAppearance.
Point taken about goblins in the HPs. I'll think of something else for the background.

I'm actually glad you mentioned this, because I was wondering if the PC in question ought to be played as though he were... 35 years older? This would place him in his 80s. His hair be grey and he be a codger anyway, so old beyond old is not beyond imagining. I am thinking about new backstory that would fill in all this missing time. Thanks for the bump! R I understand that aging has been discussed else and nothing decisive was agreed upon, but you might wanna have an excuse why your character has been gone and returns now, hardly aged, after 49 years and 9 days (layonara time). I imagine that some of the people that he used to known must've aged quite a bit and the world is very different from back then (with the major events and all that). Just a heads up, as I imagine it could lead to some weird situations if you don't readily have an excuse

Another Mac here and I haven't had problems on this or other servers, or with any of hte .hak files for this or other servers, at least that I can perceive/understand...

Somewhere along the line I had to be taken by the hand on another server and shown (it was great RP--I recommend anyone to work it out like that IG), and I'm still not sure I have it right.
If you cast the same spell as an opposing mage, on the opposing mage, their spell will be cancelled. There are other spells that also counter, light vs. dark, slow vs. haste, etc. Then the dispelling spells are universal counters. I think that's the way this works...I use a track pad when I play NWN and its really difficult to accomplish, but I think that's the theory.
I didn't realize there was a setting where you'd sit there and automatically counterspell wherever possible. I'll have to try that out!

Greetings folks,
I wanted to post a character idea so that the DM team could warn me away from it if its lame or overdone. I also need some specific advice.
What I have in mind is a goblin ranger. I know there have been a few on the server already. A goblin sociopath who hunts other goblins is the basic concept - some sort of deviant personality who just isn't fit to remain among goblin-kind. He won't exactly be fit to be around any but the most accepting types, really.
Here are my questions:
1. Does this concept make the DMs groan?
2. With the goblin ear, how would the words "goblin killer" or "goblin who is sent away" be spelled? I want that to be this characters name (that's right, I'm making a goblin named goblin). I can also make up something that sounds good and say its goblin slang.
3. I've seen PCs with the goblin monster skin applied to them on Layonara. Does Layonara ever use the halfing body with an ugly little head on it, so that the model can show different armor, cloaks, helmets, etc.? Or is a goblin PC just going to run around naked all his life?
4. I think goblins must be CN unless they are a spellcaster, or take Az'atta for their god. I'm not sure a ranger counts as a spellcaster, and I as thinking more of a distant worship of Katia.
If my new gobbo must be CN, that means I need to get my one other PC on the server up to level 10 before I can create and play this character?
5. For goblin territories, I was thinking he would come from the Hammerbound peaks, but I don't know a specific tribe to mention. I'm thinking he's a goblin from the mountains who hunts goblins from the lowlands. Should I be more specific about this? (Perhaps I can learn some specifics while I level my one PC up to 10?)
I realize that, early on at least, he won't be hunting any goblins. Gobbos are just too tough!

Greetings all - I'm so pleased that Layonara, unlike a lot of other NWN RP servers, will not delete characters from the vault no matter how long they have been idle.
I'm trying to get back into Layonara with Abraham Salt, the character I created when first playing on Layonara 3 years ago, and to catch up and get the lay of the land once more.
I think the maps have changed a little bit, and there has clearly been a lot of history. It isn't obvious from the forums how to get current on events in-game without a lot of skimming. Any threads I should be especially mindful of, or forums that announce major events, especially regarding Aragen's worship?
