All I gotta say is drow stink!  I used to play my character as hating drow, but then I kept getting harassed by the 5 other players keeping the drow company saying, 'You shouldn't judge,' blah, blah blah.  So now I just ignore drow with Waha.

Well, no, a player should not be penalized because he/she was able to check the calander more than someone else, but there is really no reason that Bob the Cleric need to go on 8 quests a month either.

Why should the rest of us that have other obligations be penalized for not being able to access to the calendar is my question?

Anyway I don't sign up for a quest unless I know I'll be able to make it anyway, which means within the next week, not 3 or 4 weeks away.  I mean I just looked at NEXT month's calendar and the quests are already filling up.  With the player base expanding the way it is, perhaps a limit on quests per month is the way to go.

Exactly.  I don't get a chance to watch the calendar and see when new things pop up.  By the time I look at them, there are 15 people already signed up.  I do agree players should have the responsibility of saying, 'Hey, I've been on a couple quests this week, I should let someone else get the chance.'

Another idea...  get rid of the quest calendar entirely...  Have the GM pick out a group of players that are already out together and hook them in, or hook a couple players in town.  It'll encourage players to form groups instead of soloing on the chance a GM will pick your group, and allow players that like to hang out and be social in town a chance to catch up on XP to those people that are always out monster hunting.

Well I don't know the situation well anymore, but back when I was GMing, a solution was having 2 GMs helping each other.  It doesn't help lag, but it does help keep the players involved.  There were a couple of times when I saw a group getting too large that I volunteered to drop out and helped the GM instead of playing.  I also know it helped having another GM around to help you out so you don't have to bounce back and forth all the time.  *shrugs*  Its always gonna be a problem with a great place that keeps expanding like Layonara.  You'll never have enough GMs to keep up with the player base.

THIRD ENTRY

"This place is either hell, or I'm the walking dead."

"In the past several weeks I've been getting adjusted to my new home on the surface.  I've gotten used to the light, so I don't have to squint all the time to see when I'm outside during the day.  Hlint is an interesting place, very diversified.  I have seen many Drow (Maybe some sort of mass exodus?), but few Svirfneblin, probably a good thing, as I don't think I could handle a confrontation with my kin just yet."

"It seems many people have the dream with the big lizard.  Seems that's a dragon and he's called many of us here to help save the world from someone called Blood.  Like I care?  The world's done little enough for me.  Anyway, seems dragons have started coming back to the world.  Some people took it into their heads that it would be a good idea to find one of these dragons to ask it for help or something.  Well I don't particularly care about that one way or another, but I figured it'd be a good way to learn the lay of the land and increase my number of contacts here on the surface, so I tagged along when invited.  Let's just say it was a VERY painful experience.  First off, we kept getting jumped.  I nearly died a couple of times.  I'd wait until the monster was occupied then attack it, but it turned on me nearly immediately every time.  We got into a little groove then and managed to make our way into some mountains...  Well things immediately went from bad to worse.  We crawled through an opening and everything was extremely dark, even darker than the underdark.  We cautiously ventured forth and was jumped by something...  Before I knew it, half the party was done and bleeding...  Well I surely am not a healer so I figured it'd be best to hightail it out of there.  I was the only one able to make it back out of the mountains, but I, being unused to the undergrowth of the forest, made a bit too much noise in the forest and some 'satyrs' (They look a bit like a man with the legs of an animal) heard me and apparently killed me."

"Everything was dark.  Then I woke up in Hlint again (I wonder what it is about this place?), and everyone from the party was there again.  Being gluttons for punishment we collected some more meat for the grinder and headed up again.  I found my grave on the way up, man that's weird.  Well we crawled through again, and there was a disorganized rush to the exit almost as soon as we encountered the enemy...  It was at that point where everything went dark again for some reason...  I think it was my body rebelling against the unnatural state of undeath I'm in.  Anyway when I could see again there was a swath of death to the crawlway and that same creature that killed everyone before was near it...  I tried to sneak past but it saw me and I died again..."

"I just woke up in Hlint again, so I decided to write in my journal and find some less dangerous pursuit."

Just for Fun / RE: Time travil..
« on: July 03, 2005, 01:58:00 PM »
:)  Time travel...  Interesting subject.  Possible?  Maybe.  There's just too much variability in the theoretical process.  Maybe we have had visitors already and they've been integrated into our history...  Or stopping something from happening.  Or maybe our history is already full of 'best case scenarios'...  Maybe no matter what happened, Hitler was the most favorable outcome for someone to lead Germany...

I personally think time travel is possible, but no one would possibly want to mess up history that much...  The so called 'butterfly effect'.

Gah, my brain hurts thinking about it.

General Discussion / RE: Ranger Questions
« on: June 28, 2005, 12:46:00 PM »
I'll answer, but obviously I can be wrong.  For the animal companion, you need to be level 6 ranger to get it, so whenever that would be (assuming your leveling as evenly as possible that would be lvl 11 yes).  As for 'requiring' a CDQ, I assume its no(could be wrong but I don't think every ranger has run a CDQ to use their companion), but you could always request one if you wanted.  Again not a GM so I could be wrong.

Layonara Server / RE: Layonara Project Team Applications
« on: June 28, 2005, 08:54:00 AM »
I'd like to help out now that I'm getting some free time again.

I've done a little playing with scripting and editting but nothing in depth.  I've done area building and some of the city home interiors here on V2 are my work.  I'm willing to help out where ever I'd be needed or paired up as necessary.

SECOND ENTRY

“Odd things have happened since last I wrote.”

“I had a very odd dream; a giant lizard told me I’m going to save the world… kind of ironic.  I woke and opened my eyes, only to shut them immediately.  All I could see was bright light.  I cautiously squinted, it took me several painful minutes to finally adjust to the light, but eventually I could make out shapes and objects.  Somehow I was alive and on the surface.”

“This Hlint is a very strange place.  There are so many people that seem to tolerate everyone except me.  Drow and dwarves standing side by side, yet few people wish to talk to me still.  Several people were nice enough to introduce themselves, but not all.  Some were just rude, most just seemed to ignore me.  I found a few people willing to offer me gold to do odd jobs for them, so I accepted their offers.  I need to survive somehow now that I have no home.”

General Discussion / RE: Can't connect to master server?
« on: June 27, 2005, 08:36:00 AM »
It was actually the firewall causing the problem.  Even after I disabled it it seemed to be restricting NWN so I went in and found out how to grant access to specific applications.  Seems to be working now.

Well I found you don't actually have to click on it...  Just be close.  So orientate yourself perpendicular to the loom or whatever and right click through the radial menu to the crafting icon.  Worked for me at least once.

Yeah, that's what I usually do too...  But this is different, it says can't connect to master server and not can't connect to gamespy.  Nothing is showing up.  It won't even let me direct connect.  *sighs*  I just got home so I'm gonna sleep on it and hopefully time will fix it.
