General Discussion / RE: Crafting skills - help
« on: May 25, 2005, 05:02:00 PM »
um - in hlint again - noone crafting.  Not able to work out how to make a mold.  Noone to ask.  Tried outside city, not surprisingly people not interested in explaining, cos I'm bored out of my tree.

I know that the "fun" is in asking others.  But not if the others are either not there, or not interested.  I mean it's not like knowing what to do for a trade skill is going to suddenly make me rich or unbalance the game.  It would mean I could play the game, rather than wandering around scenery and badgering folk.

Please, help if you can.  Maybe start off telling me how to make an arrow?

Cos I am beginning to feel a little lonely.  *sob*

General Discussion / RE: Request for Lower Level Quests PST

Hiya,

Just read your post.  And I couldn't agree more.  I am "stuck" on level 4, unable to get more XP as quests are too hard (as you mentioned) nor kill monsters worth more than 20xp..  I can't travel far or I get splatted! or minced! or diced! or squashed!.

If you still need help and I'm online send me a tell (I'm Germaine Lorn) and I'll help, or at least die with you :p.

I'm in the UK so my late night's would be your early-mid evenings I think.  If that helps you all?

Good luck with the search.

good guys killing children?

Ah well it does happen all the time.  Good guy goes to war to save/protect family.  Along the way some "good guys" do end up killing innocents.  Old George Lucas' justification for Anakin going bad is lame, but no worse than the rest of his "plot" excuses.

That been said, I love star wars cos it is lame.

And it gives me a chance to have a ramble on a RPG forum about Staw Wars.

Thanks

I wouldn't complain about not knowing recipes!  I like finding that out.

The description of what to do is what I was after.  Thank you sooo much.

As for the lack of people crafting ..."it's true I tell ya".  Must be my graveyard shift UK times that put me on when the halls are vewy quiet (I'm hunting wabbits?)

Appreciate the help though.

ooooohhhhhhhh yes.
I am so glad I am not the only person to find spelling an issue.

I do appreciate that it is irritating in the extreme to be asked to concentrate on how thinks are written.  But as there is no body language or facial expressions to give clues to meaning all we have are the words.

If reading a post is more difficult than it was to write, then why should anyone bother?

General Discussion / RE: Rping poison
« on: May 19, 2005, 01:13:00 PM »
Interesting subject this.  Is poison evil?  Well the allies (all of them) used chemical agents in WW1 and 2, though they are recognised as fighting on the side of the good.  Vietnam - agent orange.

Having limits to poison use because of alignment seems a bit high handed.  I know I would prefer rping solutions.  For characters following dieties that do not approve - there's angering your god (not a wise move).  For knights and the like there is the lose of face and respect that would bring.  In roleplay terms other characters may not wish to associate with such types.

Their was a good point made with regards to the cultural significance of poisons.  The types and the context of their uses.  The city fathers of Hlint obviously don't dissaprove too strongly or the poison maker would be underground (thieves guild anyone?).  There would no doubt be laws for it's use.  Poisoning rats, goblins and their ilk would likely be fine.

Poisons used against citizens would likely result in a very harsh sentence or mob punishment (burn the witch).

All this has been said in the above comments really.  The confusion about poison is appropriate though.  Poisons, mental illness and witchcraft were interchangable to the general public.

I would allow poison for any character as long as they could roleplay it.  Within the game they may find their actions scrutinized by all manner of groups (all types of rogues and ne'er to well, government officials, town watch, other players including those who see poison as evil)  Having to prove their honest intentions to all and sundry and avoid the unwanted attentions of others could be a full time job.

eeek

Well I guess I might abandon crafting.  Takes too long to gather ingredients just to have them wasted multiple times in a row.

Thanks for the repies though.

Any help would be appreciated.

General Discussion / Crafting skills - help

Fishing - check.  Can do that.
All others, read the books and cards, still stuck on the actual game mechanics part.  I know I should be asking players ingame to show me.  But noone ever seems to be crafting in Hlint (and I'm too weak to go far).

Any help on any of the crafting skills would be apreciated.  :)

Not sure where to put this - assuming it's a bioware problem.

It goes like this.

Need a 16 or more to succeed.  Should fail 3 times per 1 success.  Actually fail something like 10 times or more per success.  I am aware that failures are more annoying so easy to forget successes.

So I wrote it down.

Need an 11+ to succeed.  Fail 8 times succed once.
Need a 14+. Fail 12 times and still not succeded yet.

Within the game itself this could be down to a string of bad luck.  But within the Tradeskills area this seems to be happening all the time.  Similarly with % stuff.  "25% chance should average 1 in 4 success rates.  This just doesn't happen.

Ultimately this could be an unlucky abberation on my part.  Anyone else got similiar effects?
