General Discussion / RE: RP 1on1 - GRASP THIS OPPORTUNITY!« on: February 21, 2007, 01:32:03 PM »
Having played for years on a different RP PW, but being new to Layonara, I still have found these sessions to be very informative on Layo specifics. I would recommend everyone to attend and would like to thank DMs for running them as well.

General Discussion / RE: player's handbook 3.5« on: July 24, 2005, 07:50:00 AM »Quote Talan Va'lash - 7/22/2005 3:05 AM That's not entirely true. Darkfire spell comes from Magic of Faerun book as well. Only in that book it has quite a different effect. Instead of enhancing a weapon, it creates an invisible flame which the caster can use every round as a missile to make touch attacks that deal fire damage. 3

Actually a lot of spells added in NWN expansions came from Magic of Faerun, starting from simple cantrips like Electric Jolt and Acid Splash to everyone's favourites like Firebrand and Undeath to Death.

General Discussion / RE: I like to think of myself as a "Guest" here...« on: July 22, 2005, 09:54:00 AM »Quote Leanthar is very soft on the members of the community who push the boundaries and so are the GM team for the most part. Which is great for us and demonstrates their empathy and yearning to build a community that is fair and trusts one another (especially on where ideas can be shared without harassment or needless anger). They are only human, so are subject to anger as well, BUT they do a fabulous job of controling their temper when someone comes over to the "house" they built with all the time they dedicate to their "guests" and acts in a rude manner or violates the house rules. I may not have been here for long, but this is one of the first things I have noticed about this place. It is incredibly rare to see a team, which would go to the lengths that Layonara team does, to help the playerbase and treat their players with respect and fairness. Be thankful. 6

Today, while looking for the last remaining scroll, I have approached a man by the name Ozymandias. He did not give me a scroll, but he sure did have a lot of things to say, not all of them pleasant, yet he made a point. I do not agree with a lot of it, but there are still things I can learn from him so it is worth pursuing talking with him. He made me question my own goals, which was good. He told me of his own when I asked, yet there seemed to be doubt in his answer too. And for some reason he is.. bitter? I was too tired for philosophical debates so I decided against questioning it. Anyway, listening to this man may give me some ideas and he is far more experienced with magic than I.
And why does the last spell needed have to be of Necromancy school? I guess I will make myself a reputation going around and asking for it. 7

General Discussion / RE: Your opinion on "powergaming"« on: July 19, 2005, 03:28:00 AM »Quote IDii - 7/19/2005 10:23 AM There is one big disadvantage of dualweapons, that actually makes them less attractive. Sometimes you may need that extra bit of defense and to switch to using a shield and a weapon instead of two weapons. You can't really do that with a dualweapon. 9
General Discussion / RE: Tokens tokens tokens....the death ones :)« on: July 19, 2005, 02:47:00 AM »
Millana is the lucky one so far: level 7, 0 tokens, only 1 death overall. Wasn't the best decision to melee a stag beetle for a character who is mostly a wizard.

Looks like I have a goal set before me now - to learn to scribe scrolls. I need to scribe a scroll of Second Cirlce of each magic school to succeed. Just a few days ago I did not know a thing about it, but thanks to the library I found enough information to get me started. A lot of hard work, but I have to do it. I will do it. And even if I will fail the test I will at least learn something of use from it, and it is good to have a purpose anyway. Now it is time to gather more corn for the ever-hungry chickens.

General Discussion / RE: hatred« on: July 16, 2005, 02:31:00 AM »
On another note I have seen this same topic about drow come out on about every world I have played (and more than once on each of them) on and the arguments are always the same.
Personally I believe that a hatred for drow is something perfectly normal and actually is a part of their penalty for gaining much better stats. If a player picks this race, they should expect their character to be treated accordingly. 12
General Discussion / RE: hatred« on: July 16, 2005, 02:21:00 AM »Quote teefal - 7/16/2005 9:07 AM In my humble opinion, the color indicator is nothing more than a game mechanic introduced to make things easier. Not every red creature will automatically try to attack and kill you. Take deer for example. They are set to hostile faction just so that it would be easier for people who hunt them, however they do not attack first nor "look mad." 13
General Discussion / RE: How's everyone doing?« on: July 15, 2005, 01:46:00 PM »
Doing great! Not every day you learn that you are going to study for your Master's grade at the university for free because you got on the government budget group.
Also I am finally free and don't have to go back to uni until September.

It seems you just got unlucky to get to play for the first time when the server is seriously lagging. It will probably clear up when the server will be restarted. May want to try at a later time.

Yes, I think it was my first or second day here when I saw the two dragons. Was not sure if it was "normal" or not, so I just tried to stay at a distance and watch how others react. Everything seemed to be quite peaceful.

I am running on FX 5600 and the game definitely doesn't seem to look as bad as on the posted screenshot. Although it may be just the blur from the poor quality image.
If you really want to see how bad can NWN look like try running it on Celeron 433 with Riva TNT2. .. and I have played NWN using it over a year.

Admittedly I am one of those who has not RPed meeting a wemic as something unusual. Got too used to playing on another PW where wemics have become a norm and forgot it is not the case here. *slaps head* On another hand I have seen so many drow here that I am no longer sure how to react to them. On that same other world a dark-skinned elf would be kill-on-sight.

Today I was sitting on the bench near the bank in Hlint as usual reading a book. A dwarf rushed out, cursing about the bank and their taxes. Don't really remember how, but we started up a conversation. His name is Varka. A strong dwarf, and I thought a cute one in his own way. He was waving with his maul and promising to beat up the robber in the bank when he would finish his work and come out. I ended up telling him I was a wizard, but the ignorant of anything magic related dwarf didn't even know what it was. I told him it was a type of a mage, so he offered to sell me some scrolls. Then an idea hit my head. Perhaps he could help me learn to fight? I hinted to it by saying I was thinking of picking up a sword and learn to swing it. Of course as any dwarf he suggested to me to use an axe or maul instead, so I had to explain him that I wasn't that strong to use such a weapon, and he then agreed I should take a sword. I didn't even need to ask for it, as Varka offered to show me some moves himself. He was a good teacher, but I would still need a lot of practice to learn to wield a sword properly. At least I won't cut off my own hand next time I try.

General Discussion / RE: Anger...someone needs to set them straight« on: June 12, 2005, 06:02:00 AM »
Indeed. Trying to actually play it is the best option. While the rules may seem to be too harsh at first, it doesn't take long to figure out why they are here, that they actually do their job very well and achieve the desired effect. An hour was enough for me to see how much work was put into this server. It may be intimidating to a newbie at first, but I am sure the feeling will go away when I get to stay here for longer and will get to know some people. So far it seems that I may have found a new addiction here and will have to somehow split time between playing on two servers.. And I thought this would never happen again with NWN. Good job, team.
