General Discussion / Re: Monster Races

Right, so the only way for a monstrous race to have good alignment is through rp, just like evil in V2. Thanks for your answers.

General Discussion / Re: Stormcrest dart contest rules
« on: April 13, 2007, 02:32:54 PM »
Just one thing. I think that having better than average darts (iron and forth) shouldn't give a bonus, since those darts in game offer a bonus do to hitting harder/flying faster, and therefore penetrate defenses (armor or dodging) more easily. They don't make the atacker hit more accurately, and therefore shouldn't help in this game, in my opinion.

Also I agree that Dex/Wis bonus should be applied. Although this makes it much harder for lower levels, it isn't as rough as applying atack bonus, but still favours those who have better aim.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Shield Bash
« on: April 12, 2007, 02:33:38 PM »
The Shield was supposed to be used for two weapon fighting, yes, unless you used the shield without a weapon, but that was its intent all along: to use a weapon in the off hand which would not be as strong as another (you have to spend one feat to use it, you could use it to use a kukri (for the small shield) or a bastard sword (for the large shield) with the exotic weapon proficiency), but that would offer some defense.OR for Rofirein clerics, who could show how the best atack is a good defense (using it one handed) OR for someone who liked doing it :). It would not grant two weapon fightning feats: if you wished to do two weapon fighting, you would have to spend the normal feats to do so. It was just a sugestion that I thout I could give seeing as it came to my mind while making a new character.

Anyway, I can perfectly understand that everyone is busy with v3, but if anyone manages to find some time, I would be greatfull. Thanks.

Development Journals and Discussion / Re: Goronil's old book
« on: March 30, 2007, 03:22:58 PM »
Quite an interesting day today. First of all, I have the joined the 16th Skirmisher Patrol of Wayfare. Our first "training" mission didn't go well at all. First the captain didn't quite seem to love me (tall folk, what can you do), and then, we were briefed of what was happening. The nomads of Ill, a group of folks who were slaves of a vampire clan, now free, were being pursued by giants. The captain's plan was for us to divide into three different groups: one to track the giants, the other to defend the supply line, and the last one to protect and take the nomads to someplace else. The third group was being led by the captain. Guess which one failed it's job? Yes, the captain's. Clearly he didn't like me bacause he lacked the... well, I shouldn't say bad of him... he died protecting the nomads. So, aniway, the captain was also to lure the giants into a place where tey could be ambushed. He didn't, of course, so we waited, and waited... and more giants came around, yet they seemed not to atack. I believe they where attempting to surround us, but we dissobeyed (I personaly thouth we should have stayed... I was wrong for the first time in some time). We fought lots of giants, and eventually we found that all the nomads and the captain had been slain. The giants appeared to be searching for something... what,we don't know yet. They probably had help: there were traces of magic, and they were stronger than usuall. Aniway, we returned to out base with nothing. Cortaresh did some scouting duty, as he was able to fly, but nothing more...

I helped that strange goblin, Shak... he was dying right in front of town. At least he was a reminder that we should always carry potions. I do start to believe that the goblin wants peace, but it will not be easy: his overlord doesn't seem to share his ideas, neither do the rest of the goblins, or the tall folk for that matter. Aniway, I finnaly got to talk to Ozymandias about the Dragons. Here's what I found.

  Dragons
Dragons can be divided into two species:

Noble Dragons are the ones they they talk about in legends and so... They are huge, and often very cunning. They can be futher devided into Chromatic and Metalic Dragons, being the first evil and the second good. They were the ones who created the mortal races, along with a race of fey known as T'oleflor. These races were their servants, and they were used as pawns in the fight against each other (I assume Chromatic versus Chromatic or Chromatic versus Metalic, but maybe Metalic versus Metalic aswell), especially in the First War. As an apart, the Dragons ruled 90% of the world until Blood. People were not very happy do to the constant struggles, and apparently they were not well treated subjects. I wonder if that is true even to Metalic Dragons? Aniway, among what they created, there were the...

Lesser Dragons: Fairy Dragons, Pseudodragons, Kobolds, Wyverns and Drakes. They are less powerfull and inteligent, and are more likely to serve. Still, they are quite dangerous, and many live in the Dragon Isles, even though the Noble no longuer do.

I asked specifically about Fairy Dragons, to know a bit more about Cortaresh. They are tricksters, the jesters of the old Dragon Courts. They live near lakes, and like to do pratical jokes. They usually keep to themselves, and have no real society. They live around one thousand years... well, longer than me for sure. They are usually lifelong friends, and, like apples.

Finnaly, I asked about Sorcerers and Dragons.

Apparently, in most cases, there is no similarity. Even so, sometimes sorcerers come from half dragons. Maybe I am a lucky one... but probably not. Aniway, some Sorcerers make pacts with Dragons, thus becoming Dragon Disciples. Oddly, this connection is Divine, rather then arcane in nature. The power comes through the Avatar of a God, and as such a Dragon God is needed. This is when things get bad. Rofirein is an hermit, with no Disciples.... we have Pyrthecon, whose avatar is Fisterion. Aniway, doing a pact with an evil being is nothing I would like to do, but... the fact is, I am really fascinated. But no, I can never do it. There is one option... well, very far, but it might work. Besides trying to convince Rofirein to accept me (hmm... unlikly), there were, in the past, Gold and Silver Dragon Disciples. Their secrets are lost, and I would need a God still, but... but, there are Dragons comming. Ozymandias said only the evil ones were but... there might still be hope. Aniway, the research is far from over, may things can still be found, and I hope I will find them.

The group soon showed signs of not being well managed: there were, I think, 3 different groups together, and one of them refused to hear what we had to say. I personally didn't trust them much, as did most of the others in the original party which had the key. We split up, and decided to go to Spellguard, to find the history of the artifact, and how to destroy it. Unfortunently, to get there, we had to go the same way the others deed. We did not get to arrive. We got ambushed by a drow mage which slew many of us (I had the sense to stay well behind an angry drow), but fortunently the keys were still safe, and we managed to kill her. Almoust imediatly after, we saw one of the creators of the artifact, which was batling one of the evil mage's aprentice. We were summoned to the top of a volcanoe, as the aprentice had some of the dust. The creator insited on the keys being throwns to it. Again they didn't listen: it was all an ilusion, we would leave it soon enough. Fortunently, one of the key bearers only did the foolish act late, I managed to convince her not to do it earlier. So we slew the mage, and are now waiting for a new course of action.

Recently, I had a new experience with "dragons", if you could call him that. A drake not larger then me, yet deadly enough to almoust kill a group of 6 trained adventurers. I am becoming fascinated by them, I will have to ask Ozymandias the bard more about them.

Long time sinse I've written anything in this book, so I think I will do a summary of everything that has happened. We managed to find the one behind all the rat mess in an ruined outpost near Stone: a gnome who entered a cave in search for jewels, and came out with the rats behind him. He had a circle near him, which had only enough magic to take one of us, and a human got in and disssapeared. We were allready one member short, since one of us turned into a ratman, and atacked me! Fortunently, brave Cortaresh was there and cast a confusion spell on him, and he fled. He has some usefull and relatively powerfull spells... an invisibility that doesn't wear off on atacks and that ray, and I am sure that he will learn more. Maybe dragons have more than phisical power alone? I am curious about them, and will continue investigating. So, we found the cave and fought all the rat things until we found a human, the noble we were trying to find, in the other side of the circle. He aided us in closing the circle(he was a mage), but unfortunently, the price to pay was the gems... shiny gems. But, at least we ended up saving the day,  I guess.

The cloud in the sky, created when Blood was defeated, is dissapearing, and dragons are comming... a great chance to meet them. Anyway, until I do meet them, I will surely have many more adventures. The one that seems to be the most important now is the one regarding a magic dust. It all started with a gambler who lost a very valuable key. Or party decided to steal from him... not very smart since he was a mage.We managed to flee, but he later caught us again, and sent us to an illusory ocean and later a cave. I felt it was real... At least the mage made me realise the power of ilusions, and I have learned a new spell: phanthasmal killer. Quite usefull, since it kills instatnly and painlessly, which is also good, inspite most creatures hardly deserving any. I am also starting to use many invisibilities: an excelent spell for most situations, combat or otherwise. Anyway, we got away from the wizard and by later returning to his house, we found out that he planed on conquering something with the dust... which could be found with the key. He was also planing on getting some red rum, which would make people follow him.So, we stoped the rum from getting into the cities, and got together with other groups that were following the same lead...

Fixed Bugs / Re: Champion of Toran requirements
« on: March 26, 2007, 04:08:04 AM »
You need weapon focus in the deity's favourite weapon in order to qualify for champion of that deity. I think that in nwn the prestige class was simply champion of Torm with a changed name, and as such you can have weapon focus in any weapon.

I called a meeting. Unfortunently, it went nowhere. Nothing was decided, except that we didn't have enough power to do anything it seems. About Prantz I mean. I don't even know what happened to the people that were to be executed, as I had to prepare to the ceremony... I had the honor of being one of the candidates to be a Champion of Toran. I hope that I can become one so that I can better serve my Lord. If I am not, then I trust his wisdom, that I am not yet prepared.

Nothing particullary interesting the last days. I've donated 12000 gold pieces to Prantz, and then I saw in a post that Pratz doesn't need help. I hope I get my gold back, as I want to donate it to the church. I've started crafting weapons, and as i did with the armor, those I make that are not for miself will be donated to Lord Toran.

General Discussion / RE: My/our contribute ion to Layonara future
« on: August 30, 2006, 03:14:52 PM »
My opinion:
 Yes
 Partly no
 Yes, yes and yes

 Starting with the drow/aasimar/tiefling

Many characters dislike/hate the drow and roleplay it accordingly. In fact, most do, or at least those I saw. Although the character dislikes the drow, he/she has rp reasons not to atack them, including:
 - The drow appears to be stronger, so atacking would be suicide.
 - The drow is relatively near a town. If people thout he was evil/menace, he would have allready been dealt with.
 - The drow is IN a town. For a lawfull character atacking him would be agains their principles.
 - The person is open-minded. Non-human races, who might have also suffered some discrimination, want to give the drow a chance to prove himself. This is the case of one of my characters.
 - The person has seen other members of that race or an other race whose vast majority is evil being good.

These are just a few who came to my mind. Each character probably has it's own set of reasons.

As for the planetouched races, yes, celestials and fiends have other things to do then mixing with mortals, but consider these:
 - The outsider blood runs thru many generations. A single union between a human and an outsider will create a half-fiend/celestial. But consider that that being has two chilren, and they both have two more... We allready have 5 people with celestial blood, and we are considering only 2 children for each .
 - Celestials sometimes fall in love with mortals who show particular devotion to good. Consider a celestial who disguises himself as a mortal to search for evil in a human society, or a paladin who travels to the celestial realms in some quest. Celestials have feelings, and such as a human might mate with an elf, a celestial might mate with a human.
 - Half-Fiends are more powerfull then fiends. As such, the later may force themselves on mortals to create a weapon of war.

As for angels and devils walking among us, remember that aasimars and tieflings aren't that different from humans. Tieflings may have more dificulty hiding their heritage, since they sometimes have horns or tails. However, must try to hide it, so most people do not know they are dealing with a planetouched. As for Aasimars, the color of their eyes might give it away, but again not all have a different eye color. Also, remember that this is a fantasy world and non-human races are fairly common, even in a low-magic world. And not all characters feel honoured to meet someone who is partly angel: some might have pity, others might find them disgusting, and others might hate them, do to their heritage.

As for the xp penalties... they are really big. Especially if you do mroe adventuring the questing, you will feel its weight. My main character is an Aasimar. Although lately I was able to go to a lot more quests, I wasn't able before, and although I did a lot of adventuring, people who played +/- the same time as leveled a lot faster. Consider a human cleric and an aasimar cleric in the same ecl. The Aasimar would match the saving throws with his bonus, would have a higher DC for his spells, the turning would be +/- equal, and he would have some resistances, but would have less hp, atack and spell duration/damage. Essencially, they are balanced.

For mages, well, I think that specialists could perhaps have some more advantages in the spell school they choose, such as having improved invisibility with the original duration, perhaps with penalties in other areas, but that they should have the option of being generalist. Aniway, my only spellcaster is still level 6 so don't know much about changed spells.

Finally, I think languages are fine as they are as long as they are well explained in character submissions. After all, that's one of the advantages of having high int.

 Hope it helped.

Layonara Server / RE: Quest GM Applications are now open!
« on: August 27, 2006, 01:59:04 AM »
• List any DM/GM experience that you have and when the last time you performed this function.

I am usually the DM for my D&D group, which we have been playing for 2 years or so, although I started DMing only an year ago.

• Have you GM’d using NwN? If so please list for what world(s)/module(s) and for how long.

No, only used the DM client once or twice to try it but Layo is the first world in which I would like to be GM.

• Describe why you want to be a GM in Layonara.

First, I like being a DM in pen&paper, but we are unable to gather often and the players often disrupt the game with lots of coments that have nothing to do with the game and an adventure often does not end. Since layo has a great comunity of roleplayers, and we do not have to gather in RL to play, those problems can be solved.

I am also curious about how it is to be a GM in nwn, especially in a world that was well structured as layo and offers the players the chance to change the world online (even if in a small scale). Being the one who helps the players achieve that sure promisses to be fun, and especially become amazed as the players find new solutions to the problems I place in front of them. That's my second reason.

Finally, I believe that as a GM I can help the community better than as a player

• Describe what Quest GM’ing means to you in Layonara. What do you think will be the outcome if you are chosen to be on the team?

I belive I somewhat answered the first question before: it means helping the community become even better and doing something I like to in a great comunity. As for the second question. I hope I can give the players diferent quests, as every GM has his/her special "flavour" and I hope to make more weekend quests in BST, which seem to be relatively few in number.

• How long have you been a member of Layonara? You need to have been active in the community for at least four months.

I have played layonara for an year and a month or two.

• Do you wish to be a part time or full time Quest GM?

Part time. Unfortunently, unless my school schedule gets better this year I will only be able to play at every weekend, and although running a quest at every weekend is assured, it will only cover 10 hours ( assuming 2:30 per quest ). Perhaps I may also play during wednesdays and Fridays, at the evening.

Today, while meditating in Lorindar about the fall of Pranzis, a guard came and asked for help. He had seen Drows and Demons in the Forest of Mists. A group of adventurers was also there, and quite an experienced group, and I went with them to investigate. It was the first time I was fighting demons ( with the exception of the bebilith while I was searching for my celestial ancestor) and I learned the hard way that some succubus have a powerfull death aura from which I am only protected after casting all my spells ( at that particular moment Aura of Glory had allready faded from me). I learned a lot about fighting Demons from the other members, and we killed many of those foul beasts. The flag I got at Pranzis was invaluable, as it made more resistant to all the poisons and other atacks, althou I am less protected agains phisical atacks do to the shield I am not able to wear. Apparently, the Demons were searching for a plane-touched metal in a nearby cave. We were not able to find neither the drow master or the demon master, but we know that they lie somewhere under the ocean... The cave was unstable and eventually we were unable to find an exit. We had to swim, and fortunently no one got drowned. We will have to continue searching another day, but before we have to find a way to not drown in the ocean...

I am writting again after being abscent for two years. I had to leave for some time, to make sure I was worthy to become a champion of my Lord, to better serve him. Now The final battle came, and so I returned to try to do my duty again.
Today I went to Dregar for the first time. Bloodstone's forcescame to take Pranzis, taking advantage of the disorder in the throne. I sailed to Hurm, and from there Iwent to the East.I only knew that Lorindar ( the meeting place) was Southeast, and I wasgetting lost whenI saw a group. Theyhelped me find the way to the city, and thanks to them I was able to fight inthe battle. I met many people, some great adventurers, all who had answered the call. We were devided in four groups, and I was place in a hold group ( the alternatives were a scouting group and areserve group). My task was to help hold the West gate.It wasn't easy, as waves after waves of blood's forces came to take the city, and the soldiers and citizens were demoralized. I died and lost yet another part of my soul to the soul mother, but at least I did so while defending Pranzis and Lord Toran's temple. After some fighting, I went to the east gate, who had allready fallen to the hands of the enemy. I helped reloading the Balista and later I fired one. Pyyran taught me how to use them, and so I taught other volunteers there how to use the other two when Pyyran left. We held the gate for a long time, until the market fell and we were flanked. I tried to help the others at the market, and although we did manage to kill many of them, we were overwhelmed. Atacked from both sides, and by a very powerfull succubus, I fell again. We were not able to hold the city, and now only the citatel remains unnocupied. We did the best we could, and Bloodstone's forces suffered many casualties. But we *will* take Pranzis back, I am certain. And now I must rest, as we fought for three days and I am tired.

Today I went to the Sielwood witche's house to try to find my celestial ancestor. I told her the whole story, for I trus that if she spies on Blood's forces, she must be a good person. Anyway, I do not believe that the information will cause harm to anyone. My celestial ancestor apparently is in a pocket plane, which will make him harder to find. The witch believes that the undead are related to my ancestor somehow, andI promissed her that I would tell her my progress. The undead appeared again, but this time, a celestial avenger came to fight them. Finaly, he was able to tell me before vanishing :" The undead...of course, the undead!". I belive that if I find the source of the undead, I will find my ancestor, or at least clues to his location. I've posted a request for information in Lord Toran's temple in Llast. I hope that someone answers. If no one does, I will have to find followers of Aeridrin and ask them, as the witch told me that they should know. Well, it is late, and I shall sleep by the camp tonight.

Some important things have happened the last few months but have been not recorded do to having few time. However, now I am finally writting them up. The first was Taislin's trial and my attenpt to redeem him. The opposition at the trial was quite strong. However, he was only sent for prision for 60 days. I suppose it was fair, since he was judged by a cleric of Rofiren. I spoke to Taislin for some hours, and he began to understand that living an honest life was rewarding. I think he is getting better, since he refused to escape when Zanirth opened the cell's door. He decided to be a merchant, and sold me some molds at a price higher then the market price, but I thout it would be fair. Besides, it would just be better to convince him to stop stealing. I've also donated some Full Plates and Large Iron Shields for the church, to help future clerics and paladins.  Taislin Woolhands, however, managed to get all the clerics of pyrothecon's ally (mist) after him after having spit on her temple in front of many clerics. The act itself wasn't bad, but he should have been invisible before doing it. I will do what I can to protect him, but I doubt I can do much against a whole church. Hopefully, Taislin has the aid of someother good people. If he has not, I can attempt to help him solve the situation peacefully. He got himself some disguises, but I doubt that they will keep him safe.  My quest to find my Celestial roots is finally progressing. Many celestial entities have appeared fighting undead that seem to appear everywhere I go. When I help them, they say only: " Be carefull with the path you follow..." before vanishing. A celestial eagle also spoke about "A danger from beyond this plane...". I know not about this danger, nor about a strange ray that stuck me right before I was going to Sielwood to find the portal to Celestia, that is guarded by Ireth's daughter (Aarna) who hopefully will let me enter the celestial realms (Ireth told me she would talk to her daughter), and the information related to the portal was given by Ozymandias.I've spoken to the cleric of Aeridrin I helped many years ago. Unfortunently, he does not know anything about the portal that exists under Sielwood.I then went to the temple in Llast with Taislin, and I was told that I needed to get 3 gold nuggets so the cleric could create an amulet that would make me detect my celestial ancestor. Barion told me that gold could be found in a bandit cave in Rilara.
Some days later, I was able to, along with a group of friends, make it to the bandit caves and get some gold. It wasn't easy, thou, as we had a large resistance. Things are getting worse now, as the undead stoped appearing to give place to Bebiliths. I feel that soon I will be rewarded for my services, which will be crucial to survive these kind of threats. Taislin made me stronger and more dexterous, so I was able to create 2 gold ingots, which the cleric, along with a bit of my blood and hair, turned into the amulet. Now, I must find the Sielwood witch, who may help me find my celestial ancestor by scrying Celestia.Three questions remain thou, and I hope I may find the answer to them soon. Who sent that holy ray while I was in Hlint? And who is the enemy that seeks me? And, more important, why?
I also realized a few days ago that I need to get in contact with the other menbers of the church again. Ireth explained me why she disliked Toranites, why was her daughter so special and why Remiel is now an ex High Justiciar. I wonder how someone as Remiel rised in the church, and how close can a corrupt be without being noticed. Well, this ends this part of the journal. I hope I am up to the chalenges ahead, and that Lord Toran guides my mind and sword arm, as always.
