General Discussion / RE: How many Dwarves...« on: August 25, 2005, 12:42:00 PM »
There's probably some hidden report page on the website that reports player information to the staff, much like the "server status" page and the "crafting rolls" page. I'd be surprised if someone didn't make one, though it might be considered private to the staff.
It'd be easy enough to make, given what I see from server status, etc. 2

wouldn't it be more RP to have PCs "hire" vendors on an hourly/daily/monthly basis?
The markup would go to the player, not the vendor, since the player is already getting charged for the vendors time. Given a limited number of booths (as stated above), there would be competition for them ... prices get higher as demand increases. I'd love to be able to outbid another player for a vendor. Offer them more money to get an existing time slot for a booth. As for storage, it'd be sweet if you could somehow link a vendor to your house storage .. assume that the vendor could go fetch an item to replenish stock. This solves the problem of using vendors as storage .. they contain nothing that's not already contained elsewhere. If a vendor gets outbid, they simply switch to another player's storage chest(s). Yes, I know, the script don't exist Spec'ing requirements for new software projects is my day job, so I tend to run the gamut.

This is very cool:
"A great black cloud, or some great shadow, seemed to encircle the world one night; this disturbance was reported from many locations around the world. Research continues on what may have caused this disturbance and why it lasted for such a short time." One of the coolest nights for us, and the first spontaneous DM appearance for us, when the Lady of the Land asked our small group to find Rhizome to warn him about Milara, just as the night became dark. And now it's in the timeline! 7

RP'ing a message spell, do people ignore one of their spell slots? (leave it blank) Do you tell only as many messages as you have slots allocated for them? I've wondered this, since in PnP, you'd have to have the message spell prepared, right?

the dragon sequence should be mentioned in the "player info" stuff, so that new people can encorporate it into their bio. I read about Blood and the continents, and encorporated them into my bio, but it was only after the bio was accepted that I learned about the dragon. I might have written the bio differently, had I known.

I like what Rehevkor said about using game mechanics to infer visual things that aren't obvious from the visuals and text.
If I see someone is transparent, I say, "You don't look so good" and we begin talking about where their grave is. If I see someone is "badly wounded", I use a potion on them, because I imagine I see bleeding and wounds that aren't really there. If I see that a monster is a PC, I infer that I notice something about them that sets them apart from NPC monsters. They have that "dragon summonee" look about them, or as Rehevkor said, they're not the usual freak job. I did this with the orc in question .. I started suspicious, then saw another player talk to him, so relaxed. I later saw him carrying on, but saw something non-threatening about the way he was doing it. Roleplaying's about more than the obvious reactions. There's also another big point no one's mentioning here too ... some might not act because they're *afraid* to, IC. Personally, the more I learn about the world, the less I'm willing to attack ANYTHING. In a place where 20 feet off the road can get a whole party killed, isn't it fitting that some of us are less brash than others? 11

This is very sad. zerpa, giddy, and me were just saying an hour or so ago that mary blood axe is one of our favorite characters. Giddy was impressed with how nice you were earlier, and stayed in game longer just because of it.
I hope our ill-fated rescue among the spiders didn't contribute to your souring of layo land. What can I say? If it'll keep Mary around, I'll charge every weapon-wielding baddy in town with a pick axe... no exceptions! 12

Mine comes from the logo of Tidepool, our photo organizing and sharing software.
By the way, I've been toying with the idea of making it easy to tag, resize, and upload Neverwinter tga files too, so you can use Tidepool for your screenshots. Wouldn't be hard, so encourage me It's java, so everyone wins. 16

*written below acacea's note*
I was there. I was suffering through another halfling bragging contest, with Acacea and another halfling boasting to each other of which of them was the true "Hero of Hlint". The orc ran into town and I pulled my swords and stood before it, then realized he was a friendly orc that I knew from the day before, who was having a bit of fun, playing tag with another. I could sense his intent was not malicious. When the halflings began talking big to the orc, threatening him, I decided it would be a fitting lesson for these two to determine which was the *real* Hero of Hlint, and as such, walked away to let the brave halflings deal with it. If they were misrepresenting their true abilities, this is their failing, not mine. Perhaps this dose of humility may soften their claims in the future. 17
General Discussion / RE: A question.« on: August 07, 2005, 09:08:00 AM »
I'm pretty sure I was there too. We were talking to Acacea and a few others, when an orc PC ran in chasing another PC. The player was yelling help and the orc was saying menancing things. My first reaction was to take out my swords and walk up to the orc. I recognized the orc PC from two nights ago, where I "eyed him suspiciously", etc, but held things in because another PC I knew recognized him and talked to him. Two nights ago, I RP'ed wanting to leave as soon as possible, not trusting him.
Last night, I walked up to him and stood ready to fight him, then from the conversation realized that it was a game of *tag*, and that the characters weren't seriously attacking each other. They were playing. Perhaps Acacea missed this. It was clear to me, so I turned to the rest of our party and said let's leave, wanting to be away from the orc and Hlint. When Acacea and the level one halfling started making a big play of taking on the orc, I thought it was both of them being overly grandiose again, as they were doing before the orc showed up (arguing between which of the two of them was the "Hero of Hlint", etc). I thought they had heard that it was a game of tag, and were RPing feeling important by "attacking" a character who wasn't really a threat. As others have said in this thread, we each have our reasons for RPing the way we do. Complaining about how other people RP isn't cool, IMO. This is supposed to be fun. Honestly, there's enough shoulding and blaming in real life. 18

Our first quest series took us all over Rilara and Dregar, and had us wondering till the end. My personal favorite moment was chatting with Victor while he was lying on the floor with a broken neck.
The fireworks at the very end were cool, as was Dorgie's Angels afterwards. |
