General Discussion / RE: Swearing/Cussing -- Whatever you may want to call it« on: September 12, 2005, 11:24:00 AM »
In total agreement with you Leanthar. I know sometimes it can be lonely in the top spot having to make calls like this and having someone telling you how wrong you are with the decision. I just think you should know how right I think you are with this one.
Your adherence to mutual respect and courtesies is the primary reason I treasure Layonara. Thanks. 2

And to help you make amends for you most reprehensible deeds, you can donate those ill gotten funds to Kane de Bohun who will dispense it to others in the form of payment for their goods and services. It will improve the economic situation of the town of Hlint thereby reducing your tantric debt and..... what? That's not a good idea?.....
Good thing I am not a paladin.... ;-) 3

Ummmmm... my little vote that I always use the recommend button makes it clear that perhaps I need to spend more time figuring out where to spend my leveling points. I figured a fighter, it was pretty straight forward.
Sigh... so much to learn, so little time to figure it all out. 4
General Discussion / RE: Weapon of Choice« on: August 29, 2005, 10:41:00 AM »
Thanks for sharing the article! I teach psychology and totally ignored the algebra. I think there was some math in there but my unconscious desire to avoid math created a blind spot... ad nauseum :-)
Actually, in the SCA I have fought many times with a greatsword (rattan) weighing in at the 9-12 pound weight. The crossguard/quillion actually accounts for a lot of the weight in the weapons we use as they are often metal. A counterweight on the butt end of the greatsword is sometimes used to get a more balanced weapon. Nice weapon when you are at your distance, but a good one handed sword/shield fighter will close the gap and keep you from being very effective with the great sword. I enjoyed the article. Thanks miltonalgebraslayer ! 5

Very wierd question. Lots of Mikes around here. Is this a real request or an attention getter?

General Discussion / RE: social proof, in hlint« on: August 08, 2005, 02:05:00 PM »
Germaine, very valid points but one area I would like to address. The solidarity only existed among those that grew up and lived in the medieval village or area. Anyone coming into a town would be considered an outsider I believe, for a long time. Even in South Georgia, I have lived in my small town since 1988 but am not really accepted. Of course, wearing armor on the weekends might have a little to do with that.. ;-)
If I understand you correctly, then the sense of community would probably make it much harder for most of us to accepted, particularly if of a different race. And if one of us were to be attacked by a monster, the community would be reluctant to move to protect us. Maybe that is why the guards and others don't rush to our aid....? ya think? 9

Teefal, that was right on target! An even being aware of the process doesn't make you immune to it.
A+ for you! MB 10
General Discussion / RE: Meaning of your forum pic?« on: August 04, 2005, 04:25:00 AM »
My forum pic is my coat of arms approved by the Society of Creative Anachronisms College of Heralds. Heraldically it is blazoned as:
"Pean, on a chief gules two pairs of annulets, each pair fretted, Or, and on a point pointed argent, a mailed fist appaumy sable. " The gauntlet represents the martial aspect, the interlocked rings represent honor/truth and courage/chivalry. The livery of my household is black and red, with the Sable Gauntlet the prominent charge. 11

*Raises Hand with embarrassed look* I have already apologized to Vyris in private and am now doing so publicly.
As a 4th level who thought he could get close to the mercs without stirring them... well, I was wrong. I thought by running through the next area fast enough, I could get them to go back. I did not expect them to follow me into town. When they did, I thought they local town guards/people would kill them. Vyris has politely informed me of the danger to other new characters, which I did not consider, and it it occurs again, I will take my licks and die. Ouch. For those whose oxen died, I have about 500 gp and will gladly give it up to pay recompense. As penance, I have been stuck in death void for the last 5 days and have been unable to find a DM online to help me. So many days with playing Layonara is pretty pricey.... :-/ Mea culpa. Apologies offered. Michael 12

Gotta get my 2 cents worth in... add me to the bandwagon! Like Cei, I have limited time but the time I spent here on Layonara has been outstanding. Even had a chance to RP with Cei a little one night.
Reef O'hagan (Resterick/Pete) deserves kudos as well for his exceptional leadership. Giving time for Newbies can be frustrating for some people after they have been here a while I suspect. Reef didn't hesitate to give a hand and some welcome advice. Thanks to all of you for doing such a great job! 13

General Discussion / RE: To everyone in the UK and especially London...« on: July 07, 2005, 06:30:00 AM »
Would like to add my concern and prayers for a country that has stood beside us for many years. My most sincere sorrow for this time but I know the unflagging spirit of our UK friends will bear them through this time.

General Discussion / RE: bard Rp poll« on: July 05, 2005, 04:41:00 AM »
Sounds like it would be a fun time listening to some of your stories! You have certainly given this much thought and consideration for others. That makes all the difference in willingness to sit and listen to a bard. Looking forward to seeing you in Layonara!

General Discussion / RE: bard Rp poll« on: June 30, 2005, 09:38:00 AM »
Unfortunately, when I come online to play it is generally time limited and working towards character progression so I have very limited time that I would be willing to expend on listening. In my real life weekend SCA activities I have spent many good hours around a fire listening to tales, songs and sipping a cold one. How about this... you talk while I am [active verb]...? Hewing off limbs while listening to your epic tale would work fine!

One humble opinion on storytellers is to try and keep stories and songs to a shorter length. Telling epic tales or singing for ten minutes without drawing breath will lose my attention. As a fighter, I prefer quick stories like:
"A feller was hauling ash in his cart on the village path the other day and was pulled over for speeding by a local sheriff. When told if he could give a good enough reason for speeding that he could avoid a ticket, the serf replied that his wife had been stolen by a sheriff two years before and he thought that she was being returned. The sheriff didn't write the ticket." Now where is that Ogre that needed slaying?....
