Well, I guess it had to happen. I have been coming and going for so long without staying put too long that she would eventually move on without me. I can't blame her. I just hope that she's happy now, wherever she is. It hurts like hell, but I'm the only one to blame. Even her scent is gone from home and from the shop.
Nothing much to keep me here, if not for the shop and the remaining pack.
*He takes a good look around the nearly empty house and stashes his journal in his bag. He makes his way out of the once bustling family home, filled with memories, but empty of its souls now that Talia and Liliah have moved on.*

I lay in the grass, ready to pounce on my prey, a lone boar. Unaware of my presence, I await the right moment, and it comes. My animal friend jumps into action and catches the prey with ease. Tonight I feast once again. Hunting is becoming increasingly easier, especially with my animal companion; our intuitive communication seems to grow stronger by the day. And truth be told, it seems that it is all I know how to do, all I remember of who I am.
I don’t know where I come from or how I came to be. All I remember is waking up one night under the moon in the middle of a grove, being licked by my animal friend, a brown bear. At first, I was scared, and it looked at me patiently. It’s almost as if I could read his mind, but not so, not exactly. I could sense his emotions and intentions, as if I could almost read his mind. I don’t recall how I ended up in the field, in my skivvies. No weapons, no food, no nothing, but he was there. I was messed up, bloodied. I remember thinking when I woke up and saw him that he had mauled me and was about to eat me up, but instead, I could see, no feel, no malice in him, but he was bleeding from his side. As I looked around, I could see nothing but a bit of red in the grass here and there. There had been a battle. Was I in it? How did I end up almost in my birth suit? Was I mugged? Who was I?
I felt pity for it, as it was in pain, even though it stood there by me like a guard of sorts. As I reached to examine his wound, I felt a tingle throughout my essence; I felt like I could hear and feel every leaf falling, every grass blade dancing in the wind, every branch swaying. And as I touched him, there was a glow for a moment, and his wound was almost completely healed. I was stunned, but he just looked at me, a bit innocently, dumb, could I even say, and he licked me again. I just felt that he was grateful for what I had done, even though I’m not sure how I did it. All I remember is wanting to make him feel better as I felt sad for his pain, which I was able to feel. I felt connected to him somehow, as if it was a part of me, and that part was hurting. And so I tried again, but failed. I had to put myself in the exact same state of mind and connection with everything surrounding me before I could do it again. And his wound was now completely healed. This is how it all started. This is how I understood I had a connection to nature that went beyond mere appreciation. I could feel nature —its essence, its power, its life.
I could feel how hungry I was!
And with that, that marvellous beast just stood up on his four legs and ran in the forest. I stood up, painfully, and I was hurt. But I moved in the direction my new companion had gone. And before I could even reach the wooden parts of where he had disappeared, he came back with a branch full of fruit. We both ate until we couldn’t eat anymore. And I fell asleep leaning on his side. When I woke up, I felt the pain in my body again. I tried to use the newfound powers I had, but couldn’t. I don’t know why exactly. But as I looked around, I somehow knew which plants were good for me and which were not. Somehow, I knew which to use to make a salve that would dull the pain. And I did… I dulled the pain, alright.. I dulled my tongue trying to chew the plants into a paste… Next time... use a rock-and-water, dummy! But I managed to do what I set out to do, and I felt better. And so we moved. It took a few days to get to a town, and when we lay at the edge of the forest looking at it, I felt dread. I did not like the look, smell, sound, or aura of the place. It’s not that I sensed anything particularly evil about it, but I felt like it wasn’t natural. At the same time, though, I needed help with my wounds. Even though I dulled the pain, I was still hurt, and the best place I thought would be there.
As I entered the town, people looked at me and laughed. Here I was, a taller-than-most platinum blonde guy, in his skivvies, patched up with dried-up salves, and being followed by a brown bear. I could feel the tension, so did my companion, and without even speaking, we just understood each other, and he went back to the woods. I looked for a temple, but all I could find in this small town was a shrine. As I entered it, I was greeted by the halflings there. I could understand them, but when I tried to respond to them, I couldn’t. I just could not speak a word. I opened my mouth and tried to make sounds, but I could not form words -nothing coherent. It’s as if I was never able to speak, I was mute. Somehow, we managed to communicate through rudimentary gestures, and, well, it was also obvious why I was there. They tended to me and gave me some basic necessities, and when I was ready to go, they graciously shooed me away. I found out from the town crier, who yells too much, that I was in a little town called Center. And well, this is how, for the past few days, my companion and I have decided to stick around this little town and learn to work together more, and how our hunting skills have been improving. I do have to say that even if I don’t recall who I am.. Nature and its vastness are calling me to explore it. So we will venture out soon and see what these lands are all about.

Does Light effects from items or the Light spell have any adverse effect on Ranger HIPS?
No, not anymore, it used to do that with the old script, but as far as I've seen it doesn't affect it any longer (Feh has a permanent green light on his dual blade and he is still able to use hips), remember last time we went to fight in the GF you asked Feh to show himself, I was armed at that moment so I had a light source.

I've tried it a few times with Gumbo with no buffs and he always gets noticed. He has better luck in the same areas when he buffs up his hide and ms. But the unbuffed hips should ( if working) give the same or better results. IMO its bugged.
Would depend on your score. Hips is dependent on the hide score, the higher you have it and the better it will be, also dependent on where you are doing it. In a city or in a building, it won't work.

Orth has indeed modified the feat. It is no longer the layo custom script. It is an adapted version of the shadow dancer script. It will indeed work only in wilderness, but I think it also works underground (cave and such) haven't tested it thoroughly underground.
Instead of taking a second of complete inaction to activate, it activates exactly like it would for the shadow dancer, and with that you can use it in combat too.
