NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Alternate mounts« on: December 17, 2006, 04:18:21 AM »Quote Unicorns for Druids..... I love that idea, but I'm expecting to see some posts probably regarding how Druids shouldn't be enslaving animals/magical beasts to ride them. Also how it probably interferes with their trackless step etc etc. So I doubt we will see this from an rp perspective *sigh* 2
NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Wood Foraging.« on: December 15, 2006, 03:11:33 PM »
Very well then, I shall take more advantage of the bounty of nature since it is an essentially infintisimal resource (ignoring the fact that the clounds are always covering the sky, the sun is blocked out and it is often quite dark and providing poor growing conditions for everything.)
Quote you need to take green wood and then treat it to make sturdy weapons and shields. And as Dorgonath said, to quote Tool "This is necessary...Life feeds on life", its about living in balance with nature, not trying to remove yourself from all connections with it on the offchance you might accidentally swallow a bug.If I was capable of gathering wood I would. 2 days I've been foraging for wood, about 10 attempts... no successes so far. Alright.. alright... you made your points. I don't agree with them at all, I think its adjusting druids to fit with the server as it stands, but meh. I shall gather more gems, take more plants, kill more fish, more animals knowing that its alright for druids to do so here... acting in a way I think is -very- undruid like. Quote A druid would not, for example, go and kill every boar in a particular area in one go, but he would perhaps kill one and use its resources as best he could. Sadly to get anywhere in crafting you have to do just that. Quote Druids, in my opinion, are among the most restricted classes in the game, and that's true for D&D in general. Yet in these restrictions are some very interesting possibilities for RP.No... Druids in D&D are not anywhere as restricted as they are here. Druids in D&D can wear metal armour if they follow certain faiths, they have a multitude of spells that have been removed from their spell list that clerics and mages still have. In D&D druids are -the most powerful class, here they are nowhere near. I don't want druids to be powerful, I don't -want- to be powerful. I just want to be able to make my own staff... or even better like the Katian section says: A staff is 'given' to me. As it stands its not really possible unless one is willing to spend days in the hopes of getting a bit of wood. Whatever happened t nature 'watching' over its guardians? Providing for its guardians? It doesnt. Druids are so heavily restricted that one could be a better druid (defender of nature) by playing a cleric of a nature diety. 3
NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Wood Foraging.« on: December 15, 2006, 07:50:10 AM »Quote at least in the case of druids, woodcrafting is perhaps not the best pursuit. I do not wish to sound rude or anything like that, so please tell me what -is- the best pursuit for druids? Smithing? No Wood gathering? No.. or rather very poor at it. Tailoring? If a druids can get themself to kill many animals? I suppose... Alchemy? All those plants we need to pick, all the gems we need to mine to get the dusts. Seems very destructive to me. Cooking? Killing animals for their meat, picking plants -yet- again to cook, and do the many many hours of practice to get anywhere. Scribing? Needs wood for the paper. Plants and animal products for the ink. Fishing? Killing animals... admitedly for food. Carpentry? Needs wood again. I don't think I need to go on really, its enough to make my point. Lets also remember this sentence from the Folian S'pae section: Quote Folian approves of those resourceful enough to carve – often literally – their weapons out of what nature gives them. But again, because of the very nature of the crafting system you -have- to use up a lot of resources. And when wood is hard to gather you're in trouble... Quote Followers of Katia usually use large wooden staves, which are actually strong, almost straight straight branches “given” by trees. They also often use longbows. Again its essentially saying 'be self suffient', not 'gather wood and give it to someone else to craft for you'. Quote Rely not on others for your survival. Live free. Kithairien quote. Again, self sufficiency, not 'find a crafter to make it for you'. And so... druids of those faiths are expected to be selfsufficient. And thats very hard to do when the crafting system is resource heavy and druids can only attempt to gather wood every 90 minutes with a low chance of success. 4
NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Wood Foraging.« on: December 15, 2006, 07:15:05 AM »
Well as it stands, Druids and Rangers which depend heavily on wood for their shields, staffs, arrows, bows, etc, can't craft their own as wood gathering is far too difficult for them and instead need to pay crafters to do so. How is it within the druidic tenants to trade with people who -cut- trees down for their wood?
Druids can only use wooded weapons (except scimitars and sickles) Druids can't gather wood easily at all No wood, no crafting, no crafting, no equipment Therefore we need to trade with those who defile the forest by chopping trees down to get our equipment? How is that druidic at all? I understand the rp aspects of it being harder, but I don't think its fair at all for a class that is really expected to be self sufficient to have -such- difficulty in gathering the basic raw materials to -be- self sufficient. Besides, the very nature of the crafting system forces people to consume vast amounts of resources to get anywhere in the craft. 5

A person with an axe can go up to a bunch of trees and take all the wood from the trees in about 5 minutes. Someone who has to forage gets one chance, and when you don't have spot or search as class skills that chance is 25%. Failure is a 90 minute wait untill you can try again, meanwhile the wood would have respawned again and said lumberjack is cutting wood again, and again.
I'm suggesting something like.... d20 + Druid/Ranger level against a DC of 20. Yes high level druids never fail... but they can only gather wood every 90 minutes (no matter where they go,) surely that is limiting enough? As it stands, a Druid would need to wait -6- hours to succeed in wood foraging. How many CNR respawns of Hickory, Oak, etc is that? 7
General Discussion / Re: Power builds.« on: December 15, 2006, 04:20:54 AM »Quote I am not pleased with the way this thread was brought up nor with the way the original author returned to make sniping comments at the other posters. Like I said, I am sorry I thought I could bring up a discussion about something I thought was very important for the welfare of a roleplay server.... guess not. Nor was I targetting anyone, infact all the people so far who have said they feel 'targeted' should not be as they play their clerics very well in my eyes (whether I like the character or not IC is a different matter )People should stop taking posts so personally and see what is trying to be said in them. If my post -really- bothers you then maybe it struck a chord? All I have been saying is that wizards should not be up front outfighting the warriors (there is a reason they have d4 hp and poor attack progression) and if you are with a party of good clerics it shouldnt be a dream to expect at least 'some' healing to come from them, afterall good and neutral clerics can spontaneously convert to healing spells. Yes I know the Tensers spell is a standard spell, doesn't mean it's right. I really do think the Tenser spell turns wizards into something they -shouldn't- be, frontliners. And so again, its sad when a player can't make a suggestion in a simple honest way without seeing half the playerbase get insulted and staff showing disdain of the thread. Quote This is what I do and it works well for me, you should try itThat doesnt work in my experience. People generally don't heed advice that makes them appear weaker, whatever server one plays on. 8

So essentially, anything goes if you can roleplay it. Good to know....
*plans a monk druid* I'm done here too, thank you to those who actually replied to my questions and didn't. Please understand I'm not finger pointing as such, I'm just finding it a trend that in every rp server I've come across there are people who -will- power build and do things that are not in the spirit of the server, and yet people will still defend them because of 'community'. Community is all well and good but when the server starts to comprise mostly of cleric/fighters and mages because of their known strength rather than roleplay potential? -That- is when the community should start to worry. Much the same as sub-races were locked to maintain world balance, sometimes one needs to consider locking a class that has gotten way out of hand. One roleplay server I was on had such a problem. It got so bad that eventually over 90% of the server were Werewolves/werecats/Vampire/Demons/Devils with rogue levels to max out tumble and UMD. For the sake of 'community' the staff their did nothing to curb this untill alot of the good aligned PCs actually -left- the server (me included) because they were no longer having fun when their paladins/druids/city guard were being captured/tortured/killed at least 2 times a day. So I say this. Think of the community when you make these solo capable builds. Think of the community when your once fragile mage flashes around that Tenser spell making the fighter obsolete in the party. Think of your diety when you act and cast spells. Think of the damage your powerbuilds cause to the server and the people in it, why? Because powerbuilds -do- damage a server whether people want to believe it or not. I've seen it time and time again on the many roleplay servers I've left. There's always that one Shifter/druid/monk or RDD/sorc/Paladin or Wiz/Pale/Fighter etc that makes it through the cracks under the pretence of roleplay and then does so much damage to the server. ..... ok I'm really done now *blushes* 10
General Discussion / Re: Power builds.« on: December 13, 2006, 05:18:37 PM »
Well thats unfortunate... you pick a class you should rp it. If you play a cleric then don't rp the faith, you are not a cleric but a fighter with spells.

General Discussion / Re: Power builds.« on: December 13, 2006, 03:31:05 PM »
I'd really have no trouble seeing fighter clerics if the person roleplayed a cleric. I never see clerics use their dieties name in conversation, in battle calls or anything. Generally I can never tell if someone is a cleric untill they cast their spells, and even then can never tell what faith they are. Most clerics seem to come from a general mold.

Animal Empathy = Befriending Animals. Chicken = Animal Therefore one expects that if you befriend that chicken you can take it -with- you somewhere. I would see no problems with it, but who knows what is and isnt allowed. *shrugs*

Layonara Server / Re: remember seeing something on this so not sure where to put i« on: December 12, 2006, 06:02:05 AM »Quote Weeblie - 12/12/2006 1:12 PM Actually I agree... but I won't get into that as you were obviously being sarcastic. We pay for each potion we use, we pay for each scroll we use, and have to go through great lengths to create them. To get the helm all we have to do is gather a few weapons from the -same- town or a neighbour, then there we go a very useful helm... for ever.. you cant even accidently drop it even if you wanted to. Thats essentially having 2 barkskin and 2 mage armour potions on you every time you rest!! So yea... sorry your comparison doesnt work nyah!

Layonara Server / Re: remember seeing something on this so not sure where to put i« on: December 12, 2006, 04:05:25 AM »
If other classes can get a helm that gives a spell or two from caster classes (ie barkskin and mage armour) how would fighters and such feel if we got helm that gave us weapon specialisation and weapon focus? The way I see it that helm cheapens druids at low level. Bark skin is a very important spell for druids especially at low levels and seeing all other classes wander around with bark skin up while I had use one of my few level 2 slots for it seems very unfair.

Then it would be nice if druids could exchange the helm for something they can use.

I voted incredibly good because that's how I have been treated. But I have seen and heard others treatment that I would describe as 'bad'. Differs person to person, and then again I haven't need to post a request for any sort of refund. So I suspect I've seen the light side of the whole system.

I've only ever asked for the animals to tell me where the gnolls roughly are and i get responses from them that I completely expect. For example; Stone tree refering to the tower. I never expect any detail but every little bit helps. As for conversations in animal, I keep trying to bring that up that animal speak is something simple, but to no avail... so *shrug* go with the flow. 20

Very rarely do I see any cleric of any faith do anything cleric like. Its like they are fighters with spells.
