Trade and Market Hall / Re: Gems for sale.

Sorry.  Can't do that unless you know somewhere a bit safer than the haven mines or someone who can help.  The coal.  I'll see what I can do about that.

* Bayard stops to look at the sign.  Thinking to himself, "I may finally be able to help others, much like the nameless elf who saved me all those years ago." He pens his name on the sign. *

Shiff, I would be proud to serve in such an organization.  Bayard Dawson.

Perhaps one could RP the last death in this way:  When the Soul Mother took my last strand, she showed me a premonition of my own final ending, my own death.  The player could then make up the rest of their "road" so to speak.

It would make for interesting development of the character from the point where the last strand is lost forward as the character, recognizing their own mortality, makes plans for death.

Development Related Topics (DRT) / Re: Left handed players
« on: June 02, 2008, 01:37:26 PM »
I realize I am way behind on this response.  I am left handed.  I play guitar right handed and do pretty much everything else left handed.  Oddly, I throw a Frisbee right-handed...

Anyway, I read this article that said 22% of the population carries the gene which allows them to potentially be left handed.  Of those, it's 50-50 who actually turns out to be left handed.  So, at birth, 11% of the population turns out to be left-handed.

But, then I read another article that said at age 40, only 8.5% of the population is left handed.  The article said that it was likely due to learned behavior.

My theory is that left-handed people die in stupid accidents as we try to live in a right-handed world.  I made it to forty, but personally have nearly killed myself attempting to use a right handed chainsaw and nearly chopped off a few fingers with a right handed hedge clipper...

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hello!

It has been nearly a month since I posted my last note.  My character has progressed nicely to level 6 and I have thoroughly enjoyed playing on the server and interacting with the other members of the community.  Even the more mundane parts of the game (i.e., gathering corn) are enjoyable.  The roleplay is some of the best I have ever engaged in.

I have learned a lot and, recently, for the first time, I met a character newer than my own in game!  For the first time, I was able to pass on some of the help you've all given me (nearly got killed doin' it, but hey...).

My son also has a character in game and he and I have gone on adventures together and enjoyed the time we spent playing together.

So, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for a lot of enjoyment and a really good time.  I am looking forward now to getting involved in some of the more significant plots and storylines of the Layonara world.  I think I will be ready and at the appropriate level in the near future.

Arkolio's map looks a lot better than mine!  I'll probably wind up buying one of his.

Thank you all!  I was finally able to get in game the other night.  I must thank Tegan and Riven for showing me around Hempstead and helping me get equipped and engaging in a little roleplay with me.  It was enjoyable.

It was very refreshing to play where the other players are honestly interested in helping you out and making sure you have a good time and can become a productive player.  I'll be back on very soon!

Go to Amazon.com.  You can buy the Diamond version of NWN used for probably about $15 or so...

Rumour Has It / Fiery Statues in Port Hemp Fields
« on: July 01, 2008, 10:08:49 PM »
* Bayard is walking back toward Hemp with some corn gathered near the Ire Mountains.  He spots a flaming statue in front of one of the structures there. *  I wonder what that statue is indicating, he thinks to himself.  I don't know, but I don't think it is something good.  * He draws up his hood to protect him from the rain and heads off toward the Scamp's Mug for a drink and hot meal. *

Ask A Gamemaster / Map
« on: April 26, 2008, 09:36:56 AM »
Hello, I am wondering what the community thinks of this.  I am relatively new to the game and spend time in the Port Hemp area and wandering around on Mistone.  Some of you might see me IG as Bayard Dawson.

Anyway, I grew tired of getting lost and / or killed so often and decided to draw a map.  It is basically a hand drawn set of boxes with connections between the boxes to the adjacent areas.  I drew it on graph paper.

So the question: The map is actually pretty good and I think it might be a commercial in game opportunity to sell it somehow or make it available to others.  But, something about it feels like it might not be in keeping with the spirit of the game.  Can someone provide some guidance?

I see it working as me placing a post on the forums and then meeting up in game with someone.  The negotiated fee is paid, I give them a trinket and then they can download it from some forum someplace.  I guess it would be all on the honor system, but my experience so far is that people are pretty honorable.

Thoughts?

Introduce Yourself / Hello!
« on: April 15, 2008, 02:35:14 PM »
Hello all,

I am just getting started in the Layonara world.  I must say that my first character submission was just completely "mailed in."  Darkstorme kicked it back and at that moment I realized that this was going to be good.  If the price of entry is simply some extra time spent learning about the Layonara world to produce a character bio that makes sense, then people who aren't really looking for some good RP are not going to bother.

I read much more and came up with a good backstory which was accepted.  I just got on in Port Hempstead the other night.  I need to get moving and check it out.

My son (age 11) also submitted a character and he is excited because his was approved also.  I liked the fact that he spent time reading the LORE and coming up with a creative bio and backstory.  Hey, reading is learning, right?  Anytime a kid doesn't know he's being educated, well, that's the best education there is.

Anyway, he and I are looking forward to meeting up in game and adventuring.

Now, my one question:  I am a human Ranger (Bayard Dawson).  When I got into the game, my bow was gone from my inventory.  The arrows and the flail are there, but what's a ranger without his bow?  So, my question is, where can I go in Port Hempstead to buy a new bow or how can I get my missing one back?  Thanks!!!

Tony.
