*Cristov sits under a tree outside the town of Krandor and wipes the sweat from his brow.  He is caked with the dust of long travel and his eyes aren't as bright as they used to be.  He sighs and pulls out his Journal*

It has been a long time since I've written.  I've wandered far and wide throughout the land.  I even set out to see for a while and found myself in a town Mariner's something or other.  It was too expensive there, but I managed to get a job hunting bugbears.  I had no idea what a bugbear was until they made quick work of me dog and almost of me self.  I sailed back towards Vehl and wandered off into a town high up on a cliff.  I found no one there but there was smoke coming from the chimneys.  I was enjoying the cozy scenery when I was attacked by a mountain cat right there in the middle of town.  That was another bad sign.  I met a man named iradril.  He took me to Hlint and introduced me to some people there.  This made it easier to find work.  I've made and spent what to me was a fortune and I'm now reduced to delivering packages for the post master of Krandor.  Hopefully soon my luck will change.  Though I enjoy the solitude of the woods, I find there is more adventure about if you travel with likeminded individuals.  Very Well.  Time to find a bath.

*Tucks his journal in his bag, rises slowly and heads into the city

*walking into the bar is Cristov McFerlan....he no longer apears pale and beaten...He orders a drink and buys rounds for the strangers sitting next to him*

"That's a lot of coin there stranger" the bartender says.

Well...I waited and no one came so I went after the beast me self.

"Come to think of it...you're looking a might better" the bartender replies.

Ay...and I've got the coin to prove it.

*Cristov laughs and buys another drink.  He is satisfied now that he's slain Zaleem of the Gloom Wood*

*Cristov is sitting in the temple in Fort Vehl.  His discouragement is overwhelming as he lifts his head from his hands and begins to write*

Spent a few weeks clearing the crypts.  A few times I came to that foul mummy but arrows though they struck true did not seem to phase him.  I still needed cash and was able to sell the bone from the skeletons to a pawn broker for some trues.  This kept me in food and drink and got me a place to stay.  When I least expected it I bumped into a man named marcus evidently doing the same as I.  He was a good hand with a sword.  His sword by the way was a fine piece of metal, so fine that it shone a bright steely blue even in the dark of the crypt.  The going was much easier with the two of us.  I hung back with my bow and took down the zombies from afar while marcus went through and cleaned up when they got to close.  Needless to say I was able to get the dust for that creepy fella but now I've had enough of the city.  I decided to head into the forest to see what adventures might find me.

The hills outside of Vhel are enhabited by some very large cougars.  A few of whom I enlisted into my service.  Others I skinned to see if I could bring in a few more trues.  I came across a mercernarie camp and they let me rest and gave me some work.  Twice I snuck into the woods only to be over run by large swarming crews of zombies, two demon felines and a overgrown skeleton.  Though I enjoy the solitude of the forest I may not be able to make this one on me own.

*Cristov finishes writing and flops his head back into his hands.*

*Cristov, leaning against a tree, pulls out the notes he keeps on a rolled skin and begins to write*

Rolled out of bed this morning and realized the 200 from Martha wouldn't keep me going to long if I was gonna stay here in the city.  So, I took out to look for more work.  Trent, who was supposed to be guarding something but was mostly wandering about...I can imagine that's what all guards do, wandering about and growing fat while those under their care are killed...I digress.  Yes, well he, asked me to clean up a small kobold camp outside of town.  Now big deal I thought so I went sneaking on in and I stayed to the higher ground.  I got one before he even saw me but then it was on.  A little one ran up to me swinging, maybe it was a kitchen knife, and I shot him right in the throat.  The group was too small to be anything more than a forward post so I crept back untill I saw an inner guard standing by an old hut.  It was all going good till one of the little creeps summoned a magic bird which took a liking to chasing me down.  Couldn't hit it so I ran.

On my way into town after evading my new friends...I ran into a hard looking man said his name was Timulty Keel.  Told him about me problems and he came with me to take a look.

We got back into the camp all right, cause I'd slain the outpost and were creeping back towards the hut when we bump into this wizard looking fellow said he'd allready solved the problem.  I was pretty disapointed until he gave me the stick I was sent to get and off I went to give his regards to Trent.  Got a nice bag out of it too...it's a bit fancy though...going to have to figure out how to use it.

Anyhow Mister Timulty was kind enough to show me the way to Fort Vehl.  Told me to look for the undertaker...he might have some excitement for me.  So I did just that.  Creepy little man if I ever saw one.  Wants some mummy dust and I don't want to know why.

It was getting late, but I wanted to scout out the job before I started in the morning.  I took a look and got ambushed by some skeletons with battle axes.  On a side note...we should stop burrying people with weapons if this is going to continue to be a problem.  Anyhow...snuck back out of there and now...it's about time to hit the sack...

Oh looked at a sundial today...it seemes to be Junae 20, 1433...

*Cristov rolls the skin, stretches and heads off into the woods to make a cold camp*

Wild Surge Inn / For those who seek adventure

*A pale ranger stumbles into the inn.  He is covered in recent wounds and so close to death that he collapses as soon as he is through the door.  Recovering himself he slips into the chair offered him by a stranger and begins to speak*

My name is Cristov McFerlan...(he pauses for breath).  I come straight from the woods to the North East of Fort Vehl.  In my wanderings I was hired to complete a task of vengance.  But, (breathing heavily) Me stealth is not enough.  All at once I was surrounded, zombies by the hundreds, humungous overgrown skeleton beasts, and these two large devil cats from hell.  I fired arrow after arrow but it was no use.  It was too much.

*His head drops to the table weary from so much speaking.  Suddenly he rises exherting all his strength as he slams his fist to the table*

Who will go with me!  I must reclaim my honor.  We'll split the loot straight down the middle!

*the ranger again slumps in his chair*

I'll wait at the One Eyed Harpy in Fort Vehl for any who seek an adventure.  Send a messenger as I may be out tending to my wounds.

Development Journals and Discussion / The Tale of Cristov McFerlan

*Sitting on a bench in front of one of Port Hemptstead's many fountains, Cristov sits down exhausted.  His brow is covered in sweat and his clothes still carry the dust of the road.  Cristov rummages through his gear and pulls out a large animal skin neatly rolled up like a scroll.  He finds a pen, unrolls the scroll, and begins to write...*

Day 1

Port Hempstead is not the place I pictured from Grizz's stories.  It's to big and cold and there's too many people for my liking.  Much rather be out in the forest.  Oh well...I decided to stick it out and wandered for awhile.  There are a few friendly people here but they seem busy so I keep to myself.  Not to many people here willing to give work to a traveling ranger so until I met sewer lady I kept myself alive hunting in the woods and pilfering plants from the neighboring farms.  Anyways...back to the point...the sewer lady.  I think that her name was Martha...something like that asked me to unclog something or other.  Needing something to do I said all right, but it was much more than I bargained for.  First off there were these giant sewer rats.  One or two was no big deal but these buggers swarmed 5 or 6 strong.  I soon learned to talk to them and was able to enlist a few rat soldiers to my own defense.  Wandering about in those awful sewers I soon found the problem.  There were these hideous frog men, who were none to friendly either.  We had a few quick fire fights as they were armed with cross bows and were decent shots.  I lost a lot of blood and had to retreat, I am slightly ashamed to say, multiple times.  But I said I would finish and I did and I finally got the bugger that was clogging the pipes.  Still not sure why he was doing it but I reported back to Martha and got paid just the same.  And now, as for me...a drink, a bath, a nap.

*Cristov rolls up his journal...tucks it back in his pack...and heads for the inn for a well deserved rest and a well needed bath*
