Been spending quite a bit of time at the arena training on the dummies. I finally feel like I'm making some progress. I must be, when Tyra showed up she said I was getting better. She tried to use some metaphor about digging to get me to understand something, but I didn't get it. Luckily her demonstration was easy to understand, and I feel what she was talking about will help me close up any opening that remains when I strike. I'll have to keep practicing with this method until it becomes second nature, that's when I'll see some real results.

I was tired of banging on rocks and metal and felt like banging some dummies for a good workout. I've been tightening up my form, trying to rid myself of the opening Tyra mentioned a while back. I'm getting better but I feel I still need work.

After I got my hands on some True, I bought myself a hammer and started banging on some of the copper I've been collecting. Its a tough trade, I had a hard time even making a few daggers. I can see its going to be a long hard road to craft the weapon I desire, but I'll just have to walk it.

Went on another mining expedition by myself. I can't get much done the way I am right now, I need to make some money for supplies and one of those pack animals. Succeeded in smelting a decent bit of copper. From what I've read I'll need to gather more information before I try to make a halberd, but I'd like to start working on making edges so I may start on some smaller weapons before moving to the larger halberd. For that purpose I made some small molds I intend to use for daggers. To do that I'll have to make some money first though... Ah well, I'll worry about that in the morning, off to bed with me.

I've been spending my time in the mines lately trying to collect ore for smelting. I've had limited success, but I think I'm making improvement.
Today I ran into Tyra who was headed out to do a bit of mining herself, so I accompanied her. Actually my last pick broke and I was out of money, so I went for some exercise really, she did the mining. Once we loaded up her Ox we headed back to town and she allowed me to smelt the copper for practice. After we had everything smelted she tried to forge some weapons, though didn't have much luck, she said I was making her nervous and not to watch despite the fact I was supposed to be learning. She managed a few darts, and asked me if I knew how to make a mold. I had read up on it, but wasn't familiar with the process so she took me down to a field with a river running through it where I labored with a shovel digging up clay. After we took all we could hold we returned to Hlint once again and she watched over me as I tried to make some molds. She scolded me for making large molds only, saying I should start smaller to practice. I'm not up for that though, I just want to make a halberd. I suppose if its that hard I'll try something smaller. Too bushed for now though, time to retire. 8

I set out today to try and find out more about how to craft my own blade, luckily I ran into Argos. He said someone he knew had told him about a cave where I might find copper, and that he would help me find it; certainly I owe him a debt for this. We encountered another man with a complicated name who I called Kor who joined us. His skill with the axe is unmatched. We stopped in at Hlint for some supplies and met up with a young lady that Kor knew named Lily, though I also called her that for short, I forget her full name. We all left Hlint and traveled to a forest nearby... eesh I'm bad with names, I remember how to get there anyway. Argos had a good map and after some searching about we found the cave. Inside we found more than just copper, kobolds, goblins, and some other brutes were in there, as well as a gigantic slimy thing. Kor, Argos, and I were more than a match for these creatures however, especially with the help we received from Lily, who gave us... well, she gave us her god's blessing, so bad with names... At any rate, with their help I got some copper.
When we got back to town, Argos demonstrated, to the best of his abilities, how to smelt the copper into ingots. He left afterward and I'm just too tired to fuss with this right now, I'm going to sleep. 9

I was on my way to Hlint and found my good friend Zahid camping near there. After some idle chit chat he told me that the goblins in the area grow too fast for their living space and had to be balanced. Always up for some exercise I offered to join him. We made our way to their cave, which was basked in red light. When we got there we found quite a tough fight, the goblins clearly had other plans than being balanced. At first I thought they gave us quarter, and so perhaps we should do the same to them, but something else crossed my mind. They had only lured us into a trap and were buying time before their friends snuck around behind us to seal us in. After a lot of trouble, and quite a bit of bloodshed, we made it out of the cave with some help from some of Zahid's animal companions. It was quite dangerous , and I certainly learned not to underestimate the little heathens despite their small stature; they were down right vicious.
After we were back at camp I offered thanks to Zahid and Vagabond, for whom had it not been for, I would probably had not made it out of there alive. Zahid responded by telling me to save my thanks for our animal friends, and so I called out to the forest thanking them. After I finished cleaning up Vagabond, and honing his blade, I turned in, exhausted from the nights events. 10

After some training with the dummies, I decided I would try to alter my halberd and try to make it more balanced. After some tinkering around I came up with a design that felt quite good. I've been training with it for a while now, and it seems to be easier to wield than ever before. This halberd, which I've aptly named Vagabond since I purchased it's services from a weapons dealer, has been serving me quite well. However, I fear it may be soon time to find a sturdier weapon. I may take up hammer myself and forge my own blade, it is my lifeblood after all, perhaps I should take an even greater interest in it.

I was on my way to the pond outside Port Hempstead, thinking I would train my reflexes with some bow fishing; when I got there however there were a few people sitting around and talking, enjoying the lake. I didn't want to disturb the scene so I didn't fish, just said hi and sat down close by to relax. I gathered they were heading north, to the mountains. When they were ready to leave they asked me if I'd like to join them. I had never been up that way so I said sure and introduced myself. Knowing the dangers of the road I prepared and donned my armor, and kept my halberd at the ready.
The journey was actually quite pleasant, I got to talk to the others a bit on the way there. Samneem.... Sam was quite friendly and witty, and quick to launch some magic at a foe. Bella was friendly but seemed more quiet, she wore bandages on her face which I think may cover a wound that goes deeper than the flesh. Argos, a capable warrior I had fought alongside before, at that ring incident in Hempstead; and Abigail, our guide, who's name I caught in conversation, though I don't remember her introducing herself. I could tell she had seen a lot and she had the air of a confident warrior about her. This pleasant journey quickly turned into an intense workout when we reached the foot of the mountain. I could not navigate the terrain in my armor and had to remove it. Then came the cold... I was ill prepared for a journey like this, I was freezing in the clothing I had brought with me. Surely I will purchase some warmer gear in case I ever find myself back there. Though there were some formidable opponents, Ogres as well as these other large white bipedal creatures; we were well protected by our guide, it seemed my greatest enemies on this venture were the elements. Finally we reached a Dwarven stronghold, though I forget the name of it. It was a bit awkward to be gawked at so much, and it was slightly unnerving not to be able to understand what people are saying around you; our guide spoke the language though, and took us deep inside to a most spectacular sight, an underground waterfall. It was absolutely beautiful, and we stayed there for quite some time. Well rested we set out to head back south. Out of the deep caves of the Dwarven stronghold and through the treacherous icy wasteland. Although our journey had been a relatively safe one thus far, it was not to last. Argos fell to one of the large white creatures, I tried my best to get the beast off of him but could do nothing while it pummeled him. I wish I could have done more, and this event made me reflect on myself a bit. I kept my halberd close, as I now realized my halberd was roughly equivalent to my life, as well as the lives of others. Had I been more dedicated in my training, Argos may not have been bested that day. I must strive to perfect my art with the halberd, and train doubly hard to do so. We made it the rest of the way without incidence and met up with Argos, who had been spared judgment this day, in Fort Vehl. After relaxing and having a bit of intellectual discourse the others wanted to set out again, but I was tired and bid my farewells to the group. Though I was tired my feet carried me straight over to the arena, where I began practicing on a dummy. My form, footwork, endurance, it was all spot on, I must find a way to improve my fighting though. Perhaps a way to channel my energy through my weapon, using it as an extension of my own body... 12

It has been a while since I last made an entry, I have been very busy.
Before leaving for my hometown, I decided I would check out the arena and get some more training in. While I was practicing with one of the dummies there, a woman found me. A rather brash woman in fact, though she was well seasoned in combat, and quite knowledgeable. We talked for a while, she was surprised that I took such delight in the halberd, it seemed to me that she thought the weapon was a mere novelty. She tried the halberd herself however, and gave me credit for being able to wield something like it so effectively. She also offered a tip to help close up some holes in my offense. My attacks were too ambitious, leaving me open when they would be dodged. She offered me the chance to spar with her and I graciously accepted. I knew she was much stronger than me, and the difference in our skill seemed far too great, but I did manage to land a blow. I thanked her for the lesson and we parted ways, she didn't even introduce herself. After telling the story around the Harpy, I learned her name was Tyra, but could not find out much else about her. The next day I caught a boat to Port Hempstead. While gathering more information about the Kobold problem, I met up with another who was concerned about it, Aarcus Seraphim. We set out together to see what we could do about it. We held our own in the Kobold encampment, but it was difficult, and when we went up against their leader, we would have surely perished had it not been for a passing druid by the name of Zahid Al Safi. He just happened to be in the area answering what he referred to as natures call. The Kobold's numbers had been growing too rapidly as of late, and they threatened what Zahid called, "The Balance." It seemed like quite a few were interested in the problem the Kobolds were causing, because I met another person, Layl, a master with the bow. With their help we bested the Kobold leader and thought we had restored some order. Layl went on her way, and Aarcus, Zahid, and I were chatting about how it would be nice if we could reason with the Kobolds and have peace, when all of a sudden a voice called out to us. It was raspy, and said if we wanted peace, then we must give the farmland to the Dirty Claws, I can only assume that was their tribes name. We beckoned to the speaker to come out, but he said he had some magic dust that made him invisible. When we argued that his demands we unreasonable he said he didn't care and shouted his demands again, though it sounded as though he retreated back into the encampment. Aarcus would spill no more blood this day, but Zahid and I decided we could not let this instigator go free. We pushed into the encampment once more. We killed many kobolds that day, however I know not if we dealt a death blow to the speaker from earlier. A while later while I was in Port Hempstead I found a small crowd gathering around a young girl and decided I would see what was going on. Apparently she had lost a ring that was an important family heirloom to a sewer grate. The family plead with the crowd to please look for the ring. I decided I would help, despite my wish to never return to that dank hole. The sewers had become over-run with some very deadly creatures, they were now match for our numbers though. We fought all the way down to where the pipe clogger had made his camp from the last time I had been there. After we secured the room, someone noticed something that seemed wholly out of place, a painting. It wasn't a remarkable piece of work or anything, but it held a secret, I found a large hole hidden behind it when I was examining it. One by one we crawled through to a cavernous area, and on the other side we found something even more unbelievable, a family. They were in bad shape; emaciated, and one boy was deathly ill. I was concerned and wanted to help them immediately, but others in the group had other things on their minds and began questioning this poor family about the whereabouts of the ring. The head of this "household" had actually found it, and was planning to bring his family out of poverty by pawning it off. I saw no problem with this, a ring is just a ring, that girl had lost it, and it would do much more good for these people. Others wouldn't have it though, they wanted the ring returned to the rightful owners, but rather than take it by force an agreeable plan was made. We would help this poor family to the surface and allow them to take the reward for finding the ring. Pleased with the turn of events I was ready to clear a path. We fought our way back up and everything turned out fine, I was happy to help out a family in such a grave situation. My skill with the halberd has increased dramatically since my last entry, and while I was down in that sewer battling my heart out I had a moment of genius; I thought of a way to make an attack on multiple opponents who were surrounding me without compromising my defense. I've decided that I'll experiment with this technique in live combat. 14

I plunged into the depths of the crypts with my trusty halberd. The beasts here, while abominations of nature, were quick to fall to my blade. The skeletons were quite soft targets, many of which crumbled to pieces with just one blow. I made short work of them on the first floor and decided to try my luck deeper inside.
Downstairs I found some very hardy beasts indeed, much more well suited for improving my skill than those on the first floor. These walking bags of rotten flesh didn't fall nearly as easily as their weakling kin upstairs, and I learned much in the ways of battle with them. Pleased with my efforts so far I pushed deeper still until I came to a large room with a small contingent of the rotting heathens. I quickly dispatched them, creating a choke point at the entrance which allowed me to efficiently kill them one or two at a time. When I entered the room I saw another shape in the distance, it was dark, but I knew he was trouble. He hadn't noticed me so I made some battle preparations and then engaged him. The battle was hard, and long, what felt like an eternity. I was pretty evenly matched with this fiend, and by the time it was all over I felt half dead. Luckily my training held out, as did my Halberd. This beast yielded an item that seemed to match the description of what Friar was looking for. Satisfied with the days work I made my leave of the crypts and spoke with Friar, showing him the item I'd obtained. It was indeed the mummy's dust he was looking for, and he paid me handsomely for it. I thanked him and went to rest up at the Harpy. While I was enjoying a drink I overheard a conversation between a couple of other people, apparently they're having a problem with some Kobolds in Port Hempstead. Perhaps I should make a journey back to my hometown, they may need my assistance there. 15

I arrived in Fort Vehl today. Not being familiar with the town I tried talking to some of the locals. They're not too friendly in these parts, and it seems like the town lacks order, even the watch didn't seem too friendly. Still, I did meet a couple of people, one with a rather unsavory request by the name of Marrent Aylomen. He's a scholar studying medicine, a way to cure people without magic apparently. At any rate, he wanted me to rob some graves for him, something about needing to study the body in more detail. I told him I would take no part in such a thing, and that those laid to rest should be allowed to do so in peace.
I also met another fishy character, though he was not such a bad guy, Friar, the town's undertaker. He told me there were some "issues" with the dead in the crypt being quite animated for their state of being. I wanted to see what he meant, and he warned me to be careful in there and also that if I came across any mummy's dust that he would pay well for it. Or rather, he will act as an intermediary for someone else who is paying well for it. Either way I'd like to check out these crypts. 16

What an addictive form of mental stimulation...I ended up blowing quite a bit of money. I wonder if I can get a boat to Fort Vehl from here, there may be some work, and I could use the money now... I'll have to make my visits to this city seldom, or I may end up broke far too often.

I made my way to Fort Llast, the trip was long and only a bit dangerous, but the scenery was nice. The rolling farmland and deep forests of Mistone are quite a beauty to behold. Fort Llast was a relatively small settlement, I first stopped into the merchant's hall for a look around, but found nothing of interest really. The weapon merchant had a nice Halberd, but the craftmanship and durability didn't seem any better than that of my own so I moved on. I looked around the town and ran into one of the guards and started chatting him up. Lieutenant Jursen was his name, he had recently been promoted he was telling me. He was a good man, asked me what I was doing in town and I told him I was traveling to see the world. He must have been a little suspicious of my answer because he told me not to start any trouble, I put his worries at ease by telling him I used to be a member of the watch in Port Hempstead. At that he gave a wry smile and said, "Well that goes double then," and laughed boisterously. I returned the smile and chuckled along with him. Then he asked me if I'd mind helping him with something, to which I asked what the task was. Jursen proceeded to tell me he needed someone to get some weapons for the trainees, he said I'd be paid for my effort. I had some True on me from my wretched endeavor in Hempstead, and so I accepted. He told me the first item he needed and I went to get it. When I reported back to him he gave me some True for it and told me what else he needed. We repeated this process several times and some of the weaponry he was asking for was quite pricey, valued higher than what he was paying. I stuck to the task however, and in the end he made good and I came out with more coin than I had started with. Not a bad deal at all for a days work.
I camped outside the gates that night and enjoyed a brilliantly starry night to myself. I pondered where I would head to next and remembered a game of wits called Creatures, that they play in Leringard, that sounded quite interesting. Eager to see some more of Mistone's countryside, I set out the next day with a quick farewell to Lieutenant Jursen. 18

I've decided to keep a journal of my travels, something I can look back and reflect upon, and to keep me company on the lonesome road. Oddly enough, my first entry comes sooner than expected. I was going around Port Hempstead saying my goodbyes to everyone, when the usually antisocial sewer-keeper, Martha, started chatting me up about a problem she was having. Apparently something was living down in the sewers causing problems for her by clogging some waterways. I'd been in the sewers a few times on various dispatches from the watch, I can't imagine what would want to live down in that cesspit. I told her I would investigate, geared up, and ventured down there.
The stink was just as bad as I remembered it, like festering carrion in the hot summer heat. The rats were huge down there, like nothing you'd see on the surface, and vicious, but no match for my hally. In one room I saw a human shaped figure and called out to it through the darkness, it turned fast and made a bee line for me. This man was a ferocious fighter, it was clear he intended to kill me, so I had to go all out and use lethal force. When the battle was over I examined his corpse to find he was a sort of fish-man. I wonder, could these be the Sahaugin I hear about from the travelers at the taverns. I had no idea such a creature was roaming just below my feet in Port Hempstead. I was exhausted from the ordeal and decided to make my way back out. Having explored the whole of the first floor to the sewers I decided I would have to advance deeper into this maze of tunnels. The next day I made another attempt, and forged on into the depths. Yesterday I had never been so deep in those sewers, today I was even farther. I was concerned a bit for my well being, the air was thick with stink and it was hard to breath, each fight left me tired and winded. A new menace waited me in these depths as well, some rather large spiders. Their poison weakened me considerably, and I had to withdraw. Today was the day, I just had to get to the bottom of this, I was tired of spending my days in a foul, vomit inducing mire. More ready for the challenges that awaited me I set off to vanquish whatever awaited me. I came to a door on the second level of this dank, damp hell that was locked. Great, I thought to myself, I'm no locksmith. Frustrated and losing patience I smashed the door open, the ruckus I caused attracted the attention of a couple fish-men who darted in my direction, with several rat pets in tow. They had to have been pets, they cared not for the blood of the fish-men, only mine. I almost panicked seeing the small army in the dark running at me, but my martial training was greater. I thanked the gods for that meddlesome door, stepped back, and forced them to funnel in at me so I'd only have to fight a couple at once. It was a tough battle, but in the end it was them on the floor and not I. Cripes, one of these rats was as big as a dog. I took a charm from a large fish-man as a trophy of my battle and continued on, hoping most of the danger was behind me at this point. I couldn't find any clogs, but I wasn't a sewer worker. I made my way back up and recanted my story to Martha, who seemed utterly bored by it. When I showed her the fish-man's charm she snatched it from my hand, said good job, tossed a small coin purse at me, and told me to be on my way. Interesting character that Martha. I was glad to be rid of that sewer and decided I'd hit the road the very next day for some much needed fresh air. I hear there may be work in Fort Llast, perhaps I'll head there.
