I really liked that site....a book after my own heart.

It reminded me of my evolution from "Mr. non-involved" to "Copycat" to eventually a Mad Gamer....
Although with the lack of face to face games and more computer games my old habits come back up.  I have really had to keep focused here, I hope to get back into RP shape in another month.
You need people to truly have good time.

****Red Monkey Storytime!****

In the distant past..a good friend of mine (and still is) was running a system based off of Chaosium called "Real life RP"  Basically it was a method for the group to evaluate each other to put your life into stats and skills.  That in itself was a riot but we still played after that process was done.  Mind you these were people I respected for various reasons and fought with on the field for a few years.  Not the SCA but the bruising and fun and actual history was there.

So the GM has a scenario based on the "Stairway to Time" where 20th century mooks (us) get thrown, with the building we are in currently, into lordy knows what. (Brick two family two story)  The house was owned by a friend named Dave who got a kick from playing but didn't feel right about playing this game, so he watched. Since he was easily amused he always got his money's worth.
So after a horrible storm we find ourselves in the middle of a battle over a large keep, the assault just started and we appeared snugged up next to the keep...After snagged some binocs we figure we are somewhere in northern england or scotland.

So...the group is looking for weapondry in the house...because we are going to get hit..no doubt about it.  Plenty of actual hand weapons around thanks to our hobbies....but I head down to the basement and tell the GM I'm looking for Dave's rifle.

Que?   Everyone stops...looks at Dave and looks at me.
Dave rolls his eyes and reminds everyone he does hunt with his brother....HAH!
So the acknowledged wacko of the group is now armed with a .223 rifle with a very nice scope and TWO full boxes of ammo.
An argument ensues...we discuss who has the marksmanship medals from the service....I win.

*cutting past the middle because it doesn't matter right now although it was a dangerous and fun ride*

Skipping forward we find Dr Stupid (RL Physicist) unable to walk due to a black powder gun wound from the Scots (A strange alternate religious war at the time of the Scots war) but making improved gunpowder for the owner of the keep.  Dan the ranger man (Chem engineer who is now a park ranger) helping the doctor and other very bad technological things and myself....the mouth and now assumed to be strange scottish hermit come to topple the C of E.

I'm in the tower window..lounging with my rifle...using the Tesco binocs to scout the land...and our exbuddy..I will call him DAVEII.... having refused to join us due to a question regarding his faith at the gate (A misunderstanding he realized far too late. But we were being ourselves.) is seen with the ENEMY chief on a far ridge.

I know DAVEII....he actually constructed a small seige engine...he is a carpenter....bad, very bad.

By this point the group has actually learned things about each other...basically good.
Except for me, they learned I was a PR monster and loyal to a fault....you are with us or against us at the time. I'm much better now of course.

So while they are working...they hear me swear...put the rifle up to my shoulder, brace, pause and fire off 3 rounds.

*Switch to the ridge*  DAVEII is taking with the commander/chief guy, never told us about what.  He hears the shot and gets worried....he tells the chief they should move.  The chief knowing the firearms of his time treats him like a child saying there is no way a madman could hit us from that distance....DAVEII says you don't know this madman.
The chief sprouts a rose in his chest and falls down shocked.
DAVEII begins swearing and falls forward to hunker down.

(Important note:  Given the simplicity of the system and the chaos that could unsue..the GM witnessed all rolls..period.  We all did, made things easier)

Dave says out loud...at least I saved my skin, stupid savages don't listen.
*I roll a crit* Pretty much what I needed.
Dave gets hit lengthwise and has his squidgy bits blown out..killing him..I let out a Whoop.

The room goes quiet...to my friends credit, the guys in the tower with me ask what happened and I tell them I spotted some Scots on the ridge, nuff said.
DAVEII just stares at me...cigarette hanging from his lip...shocked.

You shot me.

I had too, you were with the enemy.

You SHOT me!

Dave...you were up to no good.

YOU SHOT ME!

Dave dave dave...*getting up to get something...anything in the kitchen*

The rest of the game when well...the other figured out what happened and never gave me any trouble for some reason.  I defended them in the face of gawdawful scenarios..a good time was held by all and Dave...the watcher nearly hemorraged twice due to our antics.

But I must say...I was never given any hassle regarding in-character actions after that.

Go figure.

Epilogue....DAVEII took about 5 years to stop mentioning that.  You'd think I shot him or something.

I dig it.  Uncle Figgy's advice is sound.  I'm recommending this site to a few friends now.

The Soulmother has tried very hard, but Weston just doesn't seem to realize she's there.

People who remind me of Weston:

Inspector Gadget

Inspector Clusoe

Mr. Magoo

Baron Munchousen

Don Quixote

Me
