Wht to do if the server crashes.

Since the recent changes we've lost some of the stability that we've come to expect on the west server especially. Heres what you should do if and when it goes down again.


1) Go give your significant other a kiss and ask them how their day is going.
2) Hug any children that may be nearby.
3) Play with or pet your dog/cat/goldfish.
4) Make preparations for a nice dinner, get that steak in some marinade and toss a salad.
5) Call your parents/children
6) Take a shower, you know you need one.
7) Catch up on your e-mails.
Make a sandwich and a cup of tea.
9) Vaccume the carpet.
10)Take the trash out.
11)Feed the goldfish.
12)Start a load of laundry
13)Pay your bills
14)Order pizza
15)Load and start the diswasher

One thing you SHOULD NOT do, is sit and wait for the game status to show as online and immediately jump on the server when it shows up.

It takes several minutes for the module to load completely, and the longer we wait to log back in the better off everyone will be, because then chances are we won't crash again because theres 20 people logged on 5 minutes after the server loads up.

15 minutes, 15 people or until the ping time is stable for at least a minute and a half instead of jumping from 80 to 140...whichever comes *last*...something along those lines, I think.

I think it's a given that everybody has been guilty of rushing the server at least once.  To me, the reason for it is understandable.  I mean, Layo is awesome and we all can't wait to just get back in there and start smiting again.

The server, however magical it's contents may be though, is still just a computer.  It doesn't understand all that complex emotional stuff like your party being in the middle of a spawn and you have to get back there to save your buds.

So the next time you go to hit 'Connect' after a crash, think about all the items you have.  Think about the time it took to get what you have.  Think that they might be gone if a double crash occurs.  Think about the fact that you probably don't have screenshots of your complete inventory every time it changes.  Think about the greivance forum process...

Basically, just think...

I agree with everything Vyris says here but I have to add two words to this item on the list.  I would change it to this:

2) Hug any *of your* children that may be nearby.

Randomly hugging *any* children that might be nearby could really get you into trouble.

16) Brush up on your "art" collection.
17) Actually post in your developemnt thread (GASP!).
18) Plan on moving to Dregar. Permanently.
19) Advance your plots for conquering the world.
20) Chug more caffiene; staying up through the night to play NWN takes some guts. And some (legal) chemical help.
21) Eat something. That odd feeling in your stomach? That's the feeling that reminds you you've forgone eating for near-on 36 hours, because you've been too busy questing.
22) Sleep. Really, the hallucinations are getting bad, now.
23) Watch Salad Fingers, or Scrotum the Puppy. Feed the hallucinations for the next sleepless Layo binge.
24) CHICKEN RUN. Head to Popeye's. That nausea isn't telling you not to eat - quite the opposite.
25) Perhaps consider Voltrex...
26) Make inane lists like this one, that are designed to fry the brains of small children.
27) Munch on the fried brains of small children.
28) Add some salt to those brains, and garlic to taste. After all, bland brains are no good.
29) WOW THE SERVER'S BACK UP RUSHRUSHRUSHRUSH
30) Cry that the server crashed again.
31) Try not to rush it next time.

There is no stability loss. Just do not rush the server. Only so much even an awesome team/coder can do with nwn networking code.

Alright, I amend my post, the servers have been up for days at a time, it's true, I just mean that once they go down the rushing makes them keep going down.
