Furniture crafting

Sen's kind of heartbroken about the furniture crafting.

He just found a home and was all psyched to make himself some furniture. Got his load of oak and headed to the craft hall and found out...big disappointment.

I assume about nobody crafts furniture?

It turns that on one side the furniture crafting is hardly developed at all, and on the other side in my opinion the furniture sold in the store is way too cheap.

The only bookcase you can craft requires ten planks of mahogany (and however much mahogany you would have to go through to get ten planks I don't even want to think about) and some platinum wire.

Maybe wire's not the best thing for making furniture, even if its platinum wire - how about just nails, they could easily be added to the tinker options in various metals starting with iron (on the other hand, iron nails ought to be what you'd really use in no matter what but no matter).

But thats the only bookcase there is to craft. On the other hand, the best bookcase you can buy was about 400 gold - so I assume its the same piece of furniture? There was also a cheaper one...

The huge, round, blue rug Sen just bought for around 150 gold looks spectacular too, fit for Blackford castle...it doesn't go with his modest cot and little chest, people are going to wonder what he is doing to be able to afford a rug like that but really it was only about 150 gold. To craft it should have required about 1000 balls of spider silk and some beautiful dyes that I dont know where we could get and years of work. It ought to have cost 1000s and 1000s and 150 gold ought to get you something that...well looks right next to that sad little cot.

These prices for furniture are way out of whack compared to the prices of other things in our world. Way too low except for the few lowest end items - the cot, a little chest, a trashcan, etc. OK they are about right but everything else should cost a lot more in the store. Which would make crafting them worthwhile too. No furniture can be made without at least a big pile of oak, if its not mahogany...but a bow made from oak costs thousands and takes one log and a piece of furniture costs a couple of hundred gold for about any piece you want.

Then crafting furniture should be made viable - it should be possible to make the simple furniture for your own house if you are a good woodworker, and it should be interesting to make better quality stuff and sell it to other players at prices that would not be undercut by that guy in the real estate office. Who should not be having the lowest prices in town.

Suggestion:

Add a lot of recipes to furniture crafting:

Simple, rustic, suitable for Sen items made of hickory (a couple of items like a hickory stool and a hickory cot only) and oak: an oak bed like the current craftable one perhaps, a chair, tables and desks, an oak bookshelf (there's not much thats easier to make than a bookshelf in the real world, right?), etc.

Medium grade, middle class furniture that most adventurers would be happy to have, made from oak with iron nails and other sundry items (cotton cloth, feathers, etc. as required): bed, tables, chests and crates, armoires, etc.

High end luxury furniture like this mahogany bookcase in the current crafting options. Tables, desks, chairs, etc. in mahogany should exist and look great too for those who want to flaunt their wealth...

And raise those prices for the store bought stuff, thats a give away!

By the way, that cot looks fanastic! Exactly what should be in Sen's room.

But nobody probably ever buys it because a real bed was only a few gold pieces more and a super deluxe bed good enough for the queen only costs a hundred or so more than that...

Oh...and why not add walnut oil (or another nut such as pecan, chestnut, etc for some of the items to raise their difficulty) to the recipes for the low end and middle class furniture? We can already craft it and that should make a nice finish to have something that looks like quality but isnt mahogany.
