    Can anyone help me?
    « on: July 16, 2006, 12:07:07 PM »
I'm trying to find information on opening a buisness. I need some information as to about how much it will cost to buy a property, what must be done to obtain this property as well as any paper work needed (if any, like permits and such) to run the buisness. Can i open it by myself or can it be just myself and one other partner? Any other info as to what would need to be done as well as what is the requirments to run such a buisness would be appreciated. This would not be your normal buisness, like everyone else would run, but rather something completly different, unless someone has done it already. If any gm's would like more info on my plans for this buisness as well as more details i'd be glad to fill them in. But i'd like to keep the buisness intentions someone top secret from other player, only so that the idea would not be stolen. Thank you for the help and the time it takes you to read this.

Well, while I'm not a GM, I believe properties start around 30k gold.. but very few remain on the West server.  In addition, I believe you have to establish a character firmly in-game before you can establish any kind of "business", whatever its nature.

In addition, given the severe housing shortage on the West server, your clientele would be.. rather limited.  The population on Central and East tends to be somewhat sparser than West, so if you were setting up a business that needed an extensive customer flow, you'd be in some trouble.

Opening a business sounds like opening a guild almost.  At least it does to me.  There are some well established guidelines for this.  Please refer to the LORE link below to get some insight.  Ultimately, the approval of these comes from Leanthar himself.

edit: On the otherhand, if you'd like to sell wares you craft, player to player, there is no formalisms to go through for that.  Feel free to craft and sell

Pretty much what they said is correct.
You can have a "business" without any sort of actual storefront, house or guild hall.  Most crafters are in some way salespeople as well.
People have run businesses out of player housing, which has been mentioned is in extremely limited supply, especially on West. I think the cheapest house available is something like 45,000 or 50,000 GPs (I could actually look, but I'm too lazy right now). Housing on central starts at something like 100,000 or more. There is no player housing on East whatsoever.
You can start a guild, as has been mentioned, but you must abide by the rules and qualifications of guilds in the game. With enough money, your guild can establish a guild hall, which will generally cost somewhere between 500,000GP and 1,000,000GP. Only one guild has established a dedicated storefront in-game, and that was the Orc Bashers, and that was only after something like a RL year of being an active and stable guild, and I'm not sure how much it cost.
      I hope that helps.
