*Katrien sees the auction notice and fumes. She can be heard saying to those gathered around the notice board. *
There is a craftsman that would place an ecomony that is already teetering on the edge of chaos even closer to the edge. Has he not pride in his skills? Has he no dignity in the wood or the creatures that guarded it with their very lives? Here offered for a pitance of coins that any junior adventured could collect inside a month with dedication , is the pinnacle of bow construction.
It is craftsmen such as this that will be the downfall of all craftsman. He must truely have fallen on hard times or had a few too many blows to the head.
*she writes with a firm and angered hand at the bottom*
Sir I will purchase the bow for what it is worth, which at my last look thru Master Enzo's shoppe was 60,000 coins.
If times are so hard for you that you are forced to sell treasures such as these for a pitance than seek me as I have the names of several charities that may be able to get you on your feet and perhaps some contacts with guilds that will appreciate the skill it takes to make such a weapon . Items such as these rarely appear more than once every few years on the open market.
While I appreciate your generosity to your patron deity, I am not entirely sure the Prince of Wolves would be so calvalier about such a magical and revered tree and the animals that depend on and protect it treated in such a manner.

*replies to the note*
If you have not noticed, the market for this precious wood is not there which means one of several things:
- Everyone already has a yew longbow
- No one wants a yew longbow
- Everyone is making their own -- note three auctions for branches
Thus the economy is forever changing as stocks shift hands. What is in need one day is not always in need the next.
The product is only worth what people will pay for it. It is such with collectable items. The value fluctuates with the desire for someone to own it.
A million dollar painting is not worth a million dollars if no one will buy it. This is called deflation.
The tree possesses no magics. It is the property of the wood that gives it it's strength. The Longstrider would be most please to see that there is a desire for his gifts. Not in the coin itself.

Due to how this auction has turned out and the emphasis being placed on a monetary value vice a person desiring to purchase a weapon, this auction is now null. I fear that Folian will be disappointed that his gift will not be used.
I do recall a person going through a temple market place turning over cages and letting out “bought sacrifices” because it was tainted with money and the greed of others.
The bow will given back to the Longstrider.

*Daeron notices the latest post and mutters to himself after which he adds a note*
An auction is an auction and a reserve price a reserve price. Im my opinion, only on agreement of both parties could the auctioneering party have had the right to withdraw it when there was a bid meeting the requirements. If such behaviour is tolerated it could lead to auctions being cancelled, because the person selling might feel he might earn a bit more by waiting.
I do hope this last descision was made with the approval of Katrien Hommel.
Sincerely,

* Lilly adds an anonymous note under his *
Auctions can be ended at any time and bids cancelled by the auctioning party.
Nothing forces anyone to sell even if a reserve price is met.
No approval from the buyer is required. Welcome to a free economy. Look
at what emeralds sell for... 5 times their actual worth. Balk about that.

"...because the person selling might feel he might earn a bit more by waiting."
I fail to follow your logic. It is my item, my auction, and I reserve the right to cancel the auction and/or any other transaction until the coins have been exchanged or a contract signed (hand shakes are accepted). In addition, the last bid was way over the reserve price and doubled that of the only other bid so how would I be making more money? The auction had already expired so no other bids would be accepted.
I am exercising my right as a merchant to decline sales to unworthy patrons.
"...nor will I sell the item if I am not happy with both the price and the buyer."

Oh no way, what temple was that in and why didn't I hear about it! Though really, you'd think that any temple with sacrifices that need to be caged wouldn't overly care if someone was greedy about them, since it'd have to be someone creepy to do it in the first place... I mean I doubt Corath cares if someone profited from a dead slave or cow, eh? Eh? And Toran certainly doesn't want them period! Actually now that I think about it, that was a pretty weird comment in general... Ah well, this way it isn't sold for a pittance and she doesn't spend a lot of her money to prevent it...case closed, right!
She scratches her head at the whole progression of the auction and then just shrugs after making that small addendum, attributing it to the weather...

I have to admit that the auction went sour. If someone disagreed with the price a simple bid would have sufficed. Why add all the drama?

*Daeron sees the note and shrugs, adding a final note*
As usual people take things entirely out of context. The line
"...because the person selling might feel he might earn a bit more by waiting."
was not targeted at you, but a general warning of what in my eyes could happen if this becomes common practice. And the fact someone else DID include the option to decline, doesn't change the fact that you didn't.
As for the drama, this is not targeted at you as I said before. If this feels like a personal attack, I apologize.
I will refrain any further from responding to other arguments made, since I see no good in turning this into a public debate in which some people hide behind anonymity. If people feel the need to discuss this, they are welcome to seek me out in person.
