Chasing Shadows

I was doing my normal thing hanging out in town hiding, listening and watching. I find so many things of interest and people often talk louder than they should. I guess the hardest part of a secret is not talking about it. I actually spent some time around the entrance to Port Hempstead today I have been hearing rumors of Drow and others of the forbidden races sneaking in. Well I know about one or two Drow in fact I helped them sneak in but that's another story with my own interests in mind. It was late at night and I was just outside the gates when I spotted a Shadow creeping up behind me, I followed it around back of the walls and it just looked at me all I could do was stare at it. Between that and an odd note I picked up I get the feeling that I'm being watched, strange concept if I may add as one person watches someone there is another watching him, it is very likely that the chain of watchers goes on and on until there is one high above the rest unseen and unwatched. That is who I would like to be however I suppose I have a long way to go before I can even consider the position.

 [INDENT]Shadowdancer, it implies that one can become one with the shadows often considered dancing with them. I have often thought about it and when I was younger I talked to one and I was amazed by their skill. The Shadow I was not too fond of mostly in part because I thought he was going to eat me but I soon got over that. Anyway it is time I put some real effort into learning these arts, however I won't take to petty street crimes and the sorts to gain the eye of the Thief's guild as they are the most likely group to have Shadowdancers in their ranks. I will find my own way about this one that I can condone to. I'm not giving up my soul to the Shadows either; they are to be my tools nothing more. [/INDENT]//OOC: even though I am always sneaking about hiding and in a shadow or two watching people I have not really written much about it I have all the feats and skills to go SD on my 10th level and I have like 200k xp to get before that, so I'm going to try and write more about the efforts for you guys. Also I'm going to hold off on the request untill I get closer to my 10th level and have a chance to talk to some IC people that could directly effect the future of my char. so it best I wait and come to a conclusion there first. in the end I want to go SD it's just the means to do it may change.

[INDENT]I look at a shadow and I try to imagine what it would be like to move it, to collect it and bend it to my will. I've met people who say if you hide and sneak around a lot you'll develop the skill, I laughed it isn't so simple. I must understand the mechanics of the ability and learn the trick, not everyone has the ability even I may not, I hope I do it's something that's been a goal of mine for some time now. I've seen a Shadow fiend I starred at it and as it vanished I didn't blink hoping to see what the trick was. They have a power though not something elves or humans or any normal person would have. I'd imagine a fish never had to learn to swim being born in the water and all; same for the Shadow fiends being born from the shadow they just have the instinct of it. So I'll have to learn that instinct learn how to swim in the shadows which is very different from just being in the Shadow when I hide now I mean anyone can be in a shadow or a lake but not everyone can swim in it or move in them. I need a new perspective to my methods; it would be outstanding if I had a teacher. *smiles to himself* I like to learn things on my own but hells if it would speed up the process I'm all for saving time as well.[/INDENT]
 
 
 [INDENT]I went to a Crypt the other day, Storans or something like that , I had to pick some locks they was pretty well made I had to really concentrate to get them unlocked it was all and all great practice. Further in we was attacked by some Shadow fiends I gaped, I'm glad I had something covering my face because I'm sure the group I was with would have noticed my instant interest to them and it's not good for them to see my mouth drop haha I'm not too good at bluffing which is why I always mingle the truth and let them create their own lies holding back information is easy and it's easier to keep track of then 50 lies to 20 people. Anyway I was intrigued by them how they moved how they seemed to vanish then appear and how I had the damnedest time trying to hit them. I did learn one limitation though, they have to let go of the shadows they control to strike, that's when they are visible and easily seen to hit, it's one of their weaknesses and will be one of mine when the time comes.[/INDENT]
 
 
 [INDENT]I'm currently in my new home her in Laringard, I've been staying at inns for awhile now and I'm right sick of it. I can afford a better lifestyle now so I will do just that. The Inn is well built and has a good look to it. The owner is named Kali I met her once she probably won't remember because I had a mask on but one of the reasons I came here is because I have a feeling a lot of interesting things happen here. It was when I went here with Sil'via and her 50 boyfriends to try and learn more about her shade possession issue, and a wizard teleported in and started telling us some things, in the end I kept a close eye on Kali she definitely is into more than just making pie's . I'm looking around the city maybe I can get some leads to any of my current mysteries or maybe just end up reading books near the fire can never tell with me but for now I'm off to take a bath, been too long since I've been in a clean establishment.[/INDENT]

[INDENT]I got a bird today, from someone I met on Dregar, he needed my help in Storans crypt some doors unlocked and traps unset. I made my way there we discussed some things then proceeded to enter the place. The locks have gotten easier now and I can handle most of the traps as well. I am still studying the inhabitants of the crypts trying to learn their secrets and still trying to land a solid hit on them. They are not all too bright, once they get set on someone they keep at it even if it's futile. I'd of either run off to hide or went for the weakest one first. I'm considering trying to capture one. I wonder how I'd go about that, maybe if I surrounded it by light leaving it no shadows to run to. Haha maybe not I'll have to read up on these creatures and find more about them I may be at my limits and I think it's time I start outsourcing. I'll start asking around, guess I'll have to empty my coin pouch a little as well information these days don't come cheap.[/INDENT]

Her skin is surprisingly fair for the hint of wild elven features that are revealed, her eyes are pale*

[INDENT]It's been a while now since meeting that woman Shadowdancer, she gave me a few tips on how to exercise my control on the shadows and I have been doing just that every day. I think I can feel the difference now when I duck into a dark corner or behind a tree it's like the Shadow is taking me in and accepting me as before I felt as though I was forcing my way into them. Even on roads I can see them all around me like they are calling out to me sometimes I think they lean towards me trying to touch me trying to protect me. [/INDENT]
 
 [INDENT]I sometimes follow people listening to them watching them not out of some stalking thing but completly random just to test myself to train myself to move not only within the cover of shadows but out of plain sight behind rocks, trees, out of their cone of vision dodging back and forth. I admit I've gotten pretty good at it and even had people looking for me in the middle of the road thinking I left at least until I taped them on the shoulder from behind them. Something I learned the hard way shadows don't make sounds but things in them do hehe spent a night nursing a bleeding skull being careless with a twig. I am well cautious of my surroundings now and even keener on my footing keeping off the things that go "snap" or "creek" a lesson hard learned but well taught as my father would say. [/INDENT]
 
 [INDENT]I continue to do her exercises, and wait. She told me she'll find me when I have improved to her satisfaction. This leads me to believe I'm being watched and I know she is able to do just so, unseen unheard, I've felt like taking a day off from the training but fearing her unnoticed gaze I dare not, this is my chance one I may never get again I won't screw it up.[/INDENT]

[INDENT] Red, blue, white, green, and many more colors of magicical lights swirl and wrap around something unseen, slowly as the shape begins to form the lights begin reinforcing the shape until the object forms into a man. The magic begins to unwrap and the colors fade away leaving only the colors that make up the clothing and parts of Jaigan Drakand. Counting each of his fingers arms, legs and some other parts he considers important he stretches outs some before walking out of the portal landing area in Fort Wayfare.
 
 "Greetings Sir. What do you have for me?, *a halfling calls out lacking any sort of interest  as though she just wanted to get the question out of the way.*
"Oh, nothing today Kitkit, I've only the clothes on my back"
*with a frown and a glare she replies*
"You never have anything, I think you just be hating my shop, I do."

 With a smile Jaigan insists he will have something interesting next time he is by and takes a drink of water before heading to the south gate towards Hempstead.
 
"Iracce anirama."
*looking around for the speaker of the greeting in his native tongue he replies to the familiar voice*
"Lae E laaa aey'ela oeylw sa ilvilel"
Jaigan see's the speaker as she pulls her hood down slightly shielding herself from the sunlight given off a chuckle quietly in a low voice, but soft then replying in common to his comment
"It wasn't hard"
*grining slightly Jaigan looks up at the sun*
"I don't tend to make myself hard to find in the blazing sun"
*A brief smile passes her lips beneath the shadows of her hood before she responds*
"Perhaps you need more practice then."
A few moments later as they exchange greetings Lalaith glances at the sky, as if the sun were bothering her.
"Perhaps a walk?" *as she gestures to the gate while smiling in a peculiar manner*

 After awhile the two came to a well shaded area surrounded by trees

 "Better the trees at least give some comfort by their shadows."
*with a slight grin Jaigan take another sip of water* "take it you don't get much sun?"
*shaking her head, she does not answer*
"I prefer the moonlight myself, *Jaigan adds in*

 Looking more relaxed and comfortable she tells Jaigan the sun has its place, smiling slightly and how she does not regret the day the shadows took over the Layonara skies catching herself she abruptly states that she is not here to talk about her and asks Jaigan in a more serious tone.

 "You still look to the shadows?" *watching Jaigan carefully waiting for his answer*
 "Yes, *he replies*
 
 For the next few hours Jaigan talks about how he has practiced her exercises as instructed, that he has acquired a sixth sense sort of thing for finding the right places and knowing where they are without needing to stop and look. He explained how he feels welcomed within the shade of things and as if they were reaching out to him wherever he walked. She was most pleased that Jaigan had done all the exercises she had asked of him, much more so then her last student who she had often caught distracted and not focusing on his training.
 
 The Training they held this day though was not about hiding, Jaigan had explained to her how though he was hiding perfectly he was still discovered within the protection of the shadows because of his careless footing on things that go *snap* and *creek* as he rubbed his head she gave an amused laugh and decided the lessons today would be all about awareness and moving silently. After several attempts to silently sneak up to her she showed Jaigan a book, as he read the words under the title of One with the Land he suddenly felt much more aware. Giving another go at sneaking up on her he finally succeeded a surprise as much to herself as his own.
   
 Nearing the end of the training he asks her if there is anything else he can do that can exercise the ability to help awaken it fully. She begins to tell him that there are quicker ways that she has heard of.  But they are not the best... nor a route she would recommend. After a moment of considering she said there are places on Layonara where the ties to the shadows are known to be strong Alindor's is one, the old elven ruins known as The Broken halls is another further explaining that In Alindor the shadows speak, whispers can be heard from the depths and at the ruins, the link to the shadows has grown strong over the years and you will see many shadows that can better awaken the ability. And with that she said her farewell and vanished into the night.
