Disease Outbreak at Palden Lake!
« on: November 27, 2009, 05:21:17 PM »
Travelers in the area of Palden Lake are warned that the area is currently afflicted by several strange diseases, apparently carried by mosquitoes and other insects from nearby infected Karst. Travelers are cautioned to be careful when passing through the entire region of Palden Lake, to watch for deranged and diseased animals, and to avoid drinking the lake water, which is no longer safe to drink.

Druid Trouble Tempest has been given the responsibility of overseeing the area. He is now druid of Palden Lake, and can be seen assessing the problem and making plans with fellow druids.

Those passing through the area notice that clouds of mosquitoes hang in the air, that the lake water is cloudy and murky, and that many of the animals have become deranged or sickly. It is becoming a far too frequent sight to stumble across the corpse or gasping body of an animal, lying in its own bile as it heaves its last few breaths.

[INDENT]Traveling along the Unicorn through the Whitehorn and towards Leringard, she confers with a few friends in the forest and lingers in the area of the lake, shielded from bites both physically and magically (including her feet, to her dismay). Unable to aid the mostly familiar druids in larger matters, she settles for helping them work in magic and song where needed, and picks her way among the diseased that are farthest from death to sing healing and removal of disease from them, and otherwise puts herself in their employ. Rarely affected by diseases but still able to carry them, she has herself checked for it whenever needed by anyone capable.

She also acts as a runner when needed, where animals and treewalking will not serve to pass messages, passing freely through the forest among both beasts and natural obstacles. She delays her return to Leringard for as long as she can be even remotely useful to anyone that works to prevent anything spreading downriver and thus into the forest.

Providing they're willing, Trouble organises Acacea and Zahid and any other who appear to lend their support, to build a temporary dam at the mouth of Palden lake, for the moment slowing or stopping the flow of the diseased water down the Unicorn River, offering his whole hearted thanks for their aid before he's even aware of how long they remain at the task.

Once complete, the sad task begins of seeking out and finding all the diseased people and animals in the area, and offering aid. For the most, unfortunate people caught in the area and catching any of the various diseases in the air are healed as best able and escorted to Beiran or the closest settlement.
Animals suffering are quickly gathered together and cured or healed as best is able, and kept in one of the rare, least effected area's of the lake, some small fences are even quickly erected to keep them from straying back into tainted lands.

The work is constant, grueling and exhausting... the task itself seemingly neverending. But had any passed the area during this, they would possibly remark on the mood of the druids and those that worked at the task, surprised at the light heartedness and half-decent spirits of those that continued to work until ready to drop.
Whether this is due to Trouble's constant joke telling and good natured teasing of those he works with, or Acacea's calming and peaceful songs and amusing antics, or both, is uncertain.

*Keppli skips out of whitehorn forest after visiting her old home humming then skids to a stop as she sees a suffering boar lying on the grass.
She sniffles dismayed and after a few moments dashes down the pathway sensing something's wrong. Upon seeing Trouble and Acacea she shouts and waves to them. She looks to the dam and then hefts up a huge rock, which looks way too big for her. Waddling towards them she places it in the mud wall. Plopping down on the ground and despite being exhausted, she chuckles scratching her head and looks up:
"So what can I do to help out?"

Zahid helps to build the dam by casting Vine Mine to block up, and slow, the flow of the river. While the spell lasts he runs and gathers fallen branches, twigs, and clay to help build a sturdier, albeit temporary, structure. He keeps steady concentration, calling upon his different forms and spells (namely: Bull's Strength and Owl's Wisdom).

Like many of the druids, he appears to be in a lighthearted mood, yet he, himself, would show it in a very small way. Maybe a smile. Anyone that talks to him would notice that when he is most tired, or most focused, he refers to himself as "this one" and the third person.

During those moments when the druids are focused on treating the diseased animals, Zahid uses Remove Disease in combination with the curative spells, bandages, and potions he has in his pack. For more unruly, even rabid, patients, Zahid uses Charm Animal or Person, or in the most extreme cases, Dominate Animal, to get close enough to treat them.

He looks for a pack of wolves he knows that live in the area, reasoning that it's likely they've become diseased from eating diseased prey, or from one of the many other sick sources by the lake. He finds some of the wolves, eventually, and begins the work of removing the disease he detects on them.

He works tirelessly, perhaps more than he should, before resting and starting again.

If he has the chance, he approaches trouble. "These mosquitoes cannot be aiding our situation here, and they are far too legion to cure each and every one. As long as they remain, I fear that our work with the sick will be one step forward and two steps back. What would you have us do?"

//For anyone who wishes to RP the diseased area, I will be staying mostly in the Palden Lake area when I play Zahid. Feel free to send tells or what-have-you.

*An elven woman surveys the scene with a heavy heart, as she makes her to way to where Trouble is, she takes stock on the situation and where she can help the most. Once at Trouble's side she lays her hand on his shoulder to get his attention.*

*saluting him with two fingers as he does to her*

I come with a couple of bags full of bandages, medicine, potions and the blessings of Aragen.

Word tells of a large operation about to get underway in the Palden lake area to clean and cleanse the land of the disease and contagion that's plagued it since the Tsunami's.

Druids, nature-inclinded individuals and some odd assortment of characters can been seen gathered in locations of the Lake, mainly by the side of the main road which passes through, where a few small tents have been hastily erected.
Within one sits a small table, dragged from who knows where, with a large map of the surrounding area of Palden lake. Trouble hunches over said desk, squeezing tightly a red rubber ball in his hand as he glances around at everyone and makes little marks and notations on the map, seemingly handing certain people certain areas of the lake.

" Right... Holly and... er... Acacea, if you take this section here. Kepp and Zahid.. if you take this here... me and Ell will take all this section here... and ... " he goes on and on, occassionaly rubbing his temples and squeezing the ball as though the thought of it is actually hurting him.
Eventually, he stands up straight and bounces the ball off the soft, muddy floor with some finality and pockets it, looking around at everyone.

" Right folks... first part.. you know what to do. Cover your area as best you can, find any animal or creature thats diseased, and try your best to cure it. Don't take no risks. Some things may be too gone for us to help... its sad but thats the way it is. Lets just try and save or help what we can. Forget about trying to lead them off somewhere safe... just find... cure... and move on to the next.
Once you covered yer area... come back here an we'll start right onta the next bit. Got it?"

Secretly praying for no unexpected questions he may not be able to answer, Trouble squeezes the ball in his pocket as though for silent guidance and picks up his pack and readies to go.

Zahid looks to the other manager in his region and smiles, holding out his hand. If Keppli takes it, Zahid swings his arm around and touches Keppli's shoulder, looking into her eyes.

"I am Zahid Al Safi. It is good of you to do this work. We will get much done, and more if we work together. Acknowledge the individuality of leaves, but work to keep the same growth alive. This is the wisdom of the Oak. Come. Let us bring balance back to the land."

With that Zahid starts on his area.

*she has obviously been about the forest nearby as well as the lake, covered in mud and as usual, with leaves strewn through her hair, and bandages close at hand for injured animals and such. She gives a bright smile to Zahid, and despite her muddy hand she goes shakes his. You can tell by her expression that she's friendly and willing to work together even with someone she doesnt know.

"Hullo ther mister Zahid. I'm Keppli, tracker of Whitehorn!
*she grins pointing to the forest nearby as they make their way to their 'area'.*
Let's do our best ta make things right again!"
