    appearance

    Noob question follows:

How can I change my appearance?  The best I have managed to do is purchase some studded leather and dye it.  Mind you, I can only dye SOME of that studded leather.  I have done every search I can think of to find clues on how to customize my appearance after initial creation, but the only stuff I have turned up seems to be related to local characters rather than characters stored in a persistant world.  I'd really like the ability to have, for example, red boots, blue pants, and a green top with yellow trim.  I'd like to try on a top with puffy sleeves or go sleeveless.  Is there a way to accomplish this through crafting?

    A related question:

I completed Johan's quest and got a cloak.  I equipped it, and see its benefits, but my appearance didn't change a lick.  Nope, no cloak, just my ugly partially dyed studded leather shirt.  Is this an invisible cloak? Is there something I have to do to make it show up?

I'm still pretty new to both Layonara and NWN. Sorry for the noob questions.

You can change your cloths appearance in the crafting house(north-east in Hlint). Up in the north-west corner of the crafting house it's 4 different items that can change your cloths. Click on one of them (the loom if you want to change the leather armor) and then it will start a dialog and you can chose how your armor should look like.
You can change all colors of your armor, the metal merchant, tailor merchant and leather merchant sell all different colors that can change your armor. The metal merchant sell color for the metal on your armor, the tailor for the cloth and the lather merchant sell for the leather on your armor.

You have to add the cloak when you change your armor whit the loom. I think it's neck or robe you should chose in the dialog for that. It also cost one gold for everytime you want to change your armor and you use the armor and weapoin crafting skill to see if you make it. The more you want to change the harder it will get to change it.

I hope you understood anything of what I wrote, I hardly did myself

Basically the appearance of your character is formed by what kind of armor and helmet you're wearing and what you have in your hands. Stuff like boots, cloaks, rings, etc you find in game don't effect your character's appearance. Just the armor and helmet do.

You can change the appearances on those quite a bit. Well the armor more... It's possible to change any part. And you can add stuff like quivers of arrows and cloaks to your back by editing the armor neck parts, and more stuff by adding robes and belt parts and so on.

But to edit your armor appearance, you have to go to a craft hall (One in Hlint eastside being the closest probably) and look at the customization devices (located in the northwestern corner in the Hlint crafthouse). Then go near those devices and either click the correct one (armor one for armor, tailoring one for clothing, fletcher's table for bows, etc) or just go to the Special Abilities section of your character's radial menu and choose Crafting skills and that brings up the same menu as clicking on the devices.

Changing appearances is dependant on your craft armor and craft weapons skills but you don't really need to invest those in order to change appearances. You'll just end up failing a bit more and that takes a bit of gold as changing item appearances isn't free. But it's pretty cheap overall... It's also a good idea to change just one part of the armor at once, the skill check will be easier then... and you won't miss so much work if you fail. Once you have changed the looks on your armor, you can go buy dyes and use those on it.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Just something I saw the other day.
Is it suppose to get more expensive and difficult to change an armor's appearance as you trying to change a higher level armor.
I could easily change a black armor with a roll of 8 and it cost like 10gold. When trying to change a panther leather armor it now cost 85gold and need a roll of 16.
This was not multiple change. Just changing the torso or body.
Doing the custom the other day cost me like 600 gold because a failed the 16 roll 5 times.
        Any comments?

Yup the better the armor the higher the DC *shrugs* Plus I noticed that the torso has the highest DC of all the parts.
But I don't remember changing the color costing me anything.

The best way I found to change the appearance is to buy a bunch of crafting kits, just in case, do one part at a time until I change it all the way I want then do the color.

Yep, that is how it should work, more advanced armours cost more to modify to represent the complexity of their creations and the expensive items it cost to make them.
