The Diary of Aewyre Thoryn
« on: July 10, 2005, 02:28:00 PM »
Day 1

Hoping this will enhance my memory, I will start writing a diary. In these days, I have raided the Ogres in Haven three times, the Goblins at Hlint twice, and the Kobolds at Lake Alon so many times that I cannot count them. I acquired a lot of knowledge on these races' anatomy and behaviour, which I plan on recording at a temple of my lord Aragen. I have initiated myself in the arts of Tailoring and Tinkering, although I have found no one in need of my wares, and as such my business isn't going well. I am already a good Creatures player, though I need some specific cards for my deck to be optimized. I have opted by a strategy based on flexibility: I have card combinations for a lot of situations. My magical researches didn't stay behind, though, and I already have acess to the third circle of spells. I have though decided not to rely so much on my staff magic, and have been working on trying to cast my spells without it. It is not so hard, though it strains my physical strength. But I must do it in order to severe my ties with the Order of the Nine Staves, and as such become free of any obligations (for the moment, at least). I have gathered a small collection of scrolls, but am low on gold, which I find very hard to get. I have been listening to conversations in Elven, Dwarven, and Halfling, trying to learn them. I was marveled at how they were varied: for example, Dwarven has about triple the words we have for all things related to stone, Elven is musical and pleasing to the hearing, and Halfling is very similar to common in its structure. I will continue studying these languages. I have made sure that people know me as Monhaggen Frohg, because later it may have some usefulness. My search for a master wizard in need of an apprentice is not going well, but I believe it will be useful to improve my magic.

Day 2
I was pretty shocked when I discovered that "bye" in dwarven was "poo". Nonetheless, i will continue trying to learn it. It seems that nobody has the fireball scroll I need, but my products have been selling well. I bought a smoke pipe, a leaf press, and herb pouch, but I can't find the herbs for it. In regards to my search for a mentor, I was told to look for either Nex Wintergaard or Malandaar Sagebrook. I met today my second Wemic; the first one was blind and didn't speak common, and this one only says "Lion man, eat". The first is called Tai'Shar and the second Jautaza, and they are both very scared of arcane magic. I have been dying a lot of times these days, which has put my soul in a tornado; I will be less active so that I can meditate on death.

Day 3
I have noticed that there are a lot of new people to the city. I have been asked to give them a tour on Hlint and surroundings. I have also introduced many to a craft or another, and I myself have been improving in Tinkering. I also decided to practice other crafts, at least the ones that don't require cumbersome and difficult-to-use tools, like weaponsmithing. I do plan on finding a way of doing them other than training with weapons enough. Also, my bank account is growing very slowly; I only have about 700 gp in it. I have been counseled to raid the crypts to get money, but it is near impossible for me to survive the lower levels without knowing Fireball or Lightning Bolt, as the zombies and ghouls are too tough to go down with only Burning Hands. My magic has not improved, and as such my goals are not near completion. I have decided that when I acquire enough power, I will create a wizardry school, both for apprentices with no magical power before entering and for ones that want to improve their talents. I also would like to research on being able to get more than one familiar, as I do not want Guonnaen to die so many times protecting me; he would be more able to survive with some help. Nothing else of interest happened today.

Day 4
The only interesting thing that happened today was that I finnaly found a master wizard willing to let me be her apprentice. She said I would have to pass 5 tests, and the first one is to investigate on, my specialty being Divination, why I couldn't cast Illusion spells.

Day 5
Today I payed some money to get wood, and then I went to the craft house to make some sawdust, which after that I used to try to make raw parchment. I didn't make even one, and as such, I cannot begin to write scrolls.

Day 6
I decided to research if it is possible to become a generalist mage, as I noticed that not being able to wield Illusion spells makes me a lot weaker than my peers. My non-magical stealth skills aren't enough to skip unwanted fights. I believe this would be a wise move, as I keep being killed over and over, not being able to make myself invisible, or make myself ghostly with the Ghostly Visage spell. The torment my soul is enduring is near-unbearable, as even the kobolds at lake Alon manage to defeat me, which renders me unable to gather a lot of sand, to make glass, to give to Gloin, to get a Fireball scroll. I still have 39 ingots left to make, but it is difficult when I can get sand from only one place in the entire margins of the lake. I am very disappointed with myself to have chosen to specialize when I was young and unwise, as it has been a terrible time for my soul. Meanwhile, my tailoring business is going well, people like my creations. I will make an effort not to forget Tailoring while I practise other crafts.
