An ornate scroll written in elaborate calligraphy - Mei

Mei's original Bio

It has been two tenday since my arrival to Hlint, and I have already learned so much.  The ways and culture of the people here are much different than what I am used to.  Not in a bad way, just.. different.  There has been a number of times where I have felt uncomfortable, but I am learning to adapt I suppose.  I have enjoyed my stay so far at the Wild Surge Inn, although it is quite loud and raucous.  Sometimes it is so loud, I have trouble concentrating on my daily meditation.   I will have to learn to strengthen the focus of my concentration.  I have made a lot of friends already, kind-hearted individuals who are strong of spirit and body.  However, I must constantly remind myself that I am not here to make friends.  I must keep focused on my training.  I am only here to grow stronger, and improve my swordsmanship.  My brother's katana is a constant painful reminder that I must press on.  I have recently had the katana inlaid with iron by a skilled blacksmith named Argos.  The craftsmanship is excellent and I am eager to test the blade.  If the strength of the katana is as keen as it looks, then I will most likely hire Argos again to inlay my other katana with iron as well.  Regarding my training, I have learned many things.  I have been focusing on my mobility by fighting goblins and kobolds.  Fighting so many of the ugly creatures at once has shown me the importance of movement and positioning in battle.  I am confident of my defense now as I move around a fight.  I continue to grow stronger everyday, but I am not close to my goal.  In fact, I know in my heart that I have a long journey ahead of me.

As my stay here in Hlint continues, I find myself becoming more comfortable with my suroundings and my new friends.  However, my meditations of recent have been quite troublesome.  I have not had the clarity, nor the feeling of serenity after my meditations as I have in the past.  Is it a lack of focus? or perhaps the focus was not in the right direction?  I believe the answer can be found in the latter.  I have noticed that my strikes in battle are not as swift as I like, my katana not as sharp as I had hoped.  I feel as though I have been going about my training the wrong way.  I must meditate on this further.

After a prolongued session of fasting and meditation, I have decided to begin my training anew.  I will go back and relearn the basics, slowly..  carefully..  and without mistakes.  If I want to become the best swordsman in Roldem, and perhaps all of Layonara..  I must do this right.  I will follow my heart and my spirit, and hopefully my katana will join me if they are willing.  I must stay patient - I am eager to improve, however, I cannot cut any corners ..  take any shortcuts.

Tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I will put aside my equipment and my katana.  I will carry only my training leathers and katana and I will start from the beginning.  Only when I am satisfied with my skill in basic swordsplay will I rejoin with my more familiar equipment.  I hope this is the right decision..  no, I know this is the right decision.
