Paladin warhorse - Lucinda - suggestion
« on: June 02, 2006, 07:27:49 AM »
Since the paladin warhorse requires 14 paladin levels and the chance of Storold even coming close to that is very slim I would like to suggest a change for the multiclassed Lucindite paladins. Since the church have a nifty rank system it would be great if the paladins who are multiclassing, not the ones who don't because they have plenty of time to train their horses while the mage/paladins tend to focus more on magic, could get a warhorse when they attained a specific rank.
To make this change fair for everyone I would suggest that it should be given somewhere around Threadborn - Dawnwoven - Nightwoven(The highest rank that a paladin will ever be considered inside the church even though you can get a higher one). These ranks are really high and shouldn't to my knowledge be easy to attain so the only change here is that instead of not being able to get a warhorse before level 30+, if you're part of one of the chapters and try to focus on the mage part of you character, the warhorse could be gained around level 20-30 depending on you progress in the church.

I believe the Paladin's Warhorse is a symbol of devotion. They are, if I was told correctly, more powerful than the horses you can buy. There is nothing stopping you from getting a brown or black horse in two more levels though.

This was already addressed - the Lucindite sorc/wiz paladin and the Toranite Champion warhorse request.  Leanthar has stated that you must have 14 paladin lvls - pure paladin lvls to get a warhorse. For everything else including the diety champions you'll have to settle for the brown/black horses.

I first read this thread and thought someone was going to request rideable golems instead of horses of Lucindian Paladins. *sighs*

Now you've done it ZV. Let's just hope Lunchbox doesn't catch this thread. ;)

Oh, man, I was so hoping for that, too; I was more thinking along the lines of elementals or something, though.

*Goes off to write something up for his PnP campaign. Mmmm, Red Wizards of Thay.*

My plan b is also just to buy a normal horse and then rp it was given to Storold by the church. But if the paladin warhorse is about devotion it shouldn't be the way it is right now, because paladin levels != devotion, at least if the other levels are related to the position as a paladin. And the way I read the champions description they would be even more devoted to Vorax or Toran that a normal paladin is. My suggestion is that the paladin warhorse system is about how long time you spend training your horse rather than how devoted you are to the church(edit: As it stands now).

I think the system right now do make sense.

If paladin warhorses are well trained "normal" horses, all classes should be able to do the same. Nothing says that paladins are a better horse trainers than "normal" fighters or, say, druids. Besides, why wouldn't one be able to buy an "already trained" warhorse instead?

As now, paladin warhorses seems to be more or less a gift from the church/their deities (that's how I understood it). A higher level paladin might not necessary mean that he's more devoted than a lower level one, but he do get more attention from his deity (more spells/favour). Hence the reason why he get the warhorse and not the lower level paladin.

Only my thoughts on this topic... :)

Edit: Only counting "pure" paladin levels here.

First let me say I understand where you're coming from. Lucindite paladins are an odd bunch because not only may they freely multiclass between paladin and wizard but they're actually encouraged to do so. However, having said that, this isn't going to happen.
Paladin warhorses are granted by game mechanics via an automatic script. There's no way to guage devotion or rank or any other such metric without creating a new system to handle those contingencies.
The level requirements for paladin warhorses will stay as they are. Multi-classed paladins will need to reach 14 paladin levels before receiving a warhorse. Sorry.

It wasn't a big problem for me just a small suggestion. But since Storold wont get 14 paladin levels can I then buy a regular horse and claim that the church gave it to him, because I really don't like the idea of having him spend 18.000gp on a horse IC.

@Weeblie - according to the PnP system, Paladin Warhorses are granted familiarlike abilities in terms of INT scores and so forth.  It's not a matter of training, but some sort of channeling of the force of the paladin's diety of choice.

Ah! Close to what I thought then... Good to know! ;)
