Summoned creatures not giving xp
« on: June 28, 2006, 07:13:15 AM »
In one of the older Bioware updats, not sure which one, they changed things so that also summoned enenmy creatures provide xp.

Not sure since when, perhaps the last update, but they don't give any xp anymore.

Is this something Layo has changed or is it a result of the latest Bioware update?

I've never seen summons providing XP, and I've played only 1.65 and later (relative latecomer to NWN).

According to D&D rules summons should not give XP as the xp of the controller (boss creature or whatever) has his summons power (spell power) figured in to his XP reward. Sort of hard to do in an online world with particular limitations but I tend to agree with that thinking. The change happened with Bioware (not us) but it is one I tend to agree with, at least I am pretty sure it was not a Layonara change though not 100% positive.

I can understand the logic behind that. I'm mostly wondering at this point whether summoned creatures ever did. And yes, considering they're just a product of a spell, not providing xp is pretty logical.

I think the difference in which summons give XP is based on the type of summons and how
the caster summoned it.  I think the gate spell always gives XP if you kill the creature since
it remains around after the caster dies.

For example, if a shaman summons a baalor (using gate) and you kill it - it will give XP.  If a
slaad summons a red slaad and you kill it - it will not give you XP.
