Watch out for Wolves!

*this note is posted at about knee level*
Watch out around those outside parts of Port Hempstead by the pond, everybody! I came out there tonight and found someone's ox all bloody and fighting with a nasty big wolf! They must be coming down out of the hills 'cause they're so hungry. You all better put your oxes... (scratched out) .... your oxens ..... (scratched out).... your big cows someplace safer if you don't want them to get eaten!
Nisbet Narine
PS -- I smacked that wolf with my stick and healed up the ox, just so you know I didn't leave it bleeding there by the road!

Friends,
I will speak to the wolves. But as you suggested they are most likely hungry and simply saw a fat tasty and slow meal near the edge of the forest.
I would ask that you move your oxen away from the temptations of the hungry.

*Jacchri walks in and reads the note and then just shakes his head sadly and pens a note*
Jin
Who are we to go tell or even ask wolves what they can and must do?
If people are hungry they go out and kill deer to feed their hunger, why are wolves not allowed to do the same. The problem here is not the wolf but rather the person who left his ox unattended in danger where a wolf or for that matter any hungry person could have slaughtered it to feed himself.
Is it not bad enough that cities and towns constantly expand taking away forests, which are these wolves' homes, that we now want to go speak to wolves and tell them to stay away from cities or any forest edge close to a city just cause people are to lazy to put their oxen in a stable where it belong.
Perhaps you should rather go speak to people and leave the wolves alone.
Jacchri
*sighs as he finishes the note and walks away shaking his head and mumbling in a low voice*
"And he calls himself a protector of woods and its inhabitants, rather sound like a protector of people and their possessions to me."

A small figure steps out of a shadow near the notice postings and interrupts Jacchri's departure with a called query. "Jacchri, what do you mean?"
Blushing a bit, Bumblebee clambers atop a box at the base of the bulletin board and reads both Jin's and Jacc's replies. Looking over his shoulder to Jacchri, "Are cities not dangerous places for wolves? And wouldn't it make sense to keep both the oxen and the wolves safe?"

I'm not always comfortable with RPing on the forums but there's been a trend that way so we'll see how it goes. :-)

*Jacchri smiles when he sees Bumblebee*
Did not see you there, you should be careful, I could have stepped on you.
Indeed cities are dangerous places for wolves, but this wolf did not attack inside a city, but rather outside it near the forest edge.
Wolves will generally not enter the cities as they know the dangers that awaits them inside. But an oxen lurking near the forest edge is asking to be eaten.
So wolves generally stay out of cities but this oxen did not stay away from the forest or least the forest edge and hence was attacked. I dont see nothing wrong with that and put it down to negligence of the oxen's owner.
We all here are competing for the same space, food and survival, wolf or any animal for that matter and people. I call it a mere common respect, wolves stay out of cities, mainly due to fear and knowing bad things will happen there, so I think it is fair to expect oxen to stay in their barns or cities or else become food in the forest. And if the oxen cant think for themself, which they probably cant then it is up to their owners to think.
But alas some owner's oxen I think have more thinking ability than the owner himself.

*Pallena happens by, moves the note closer to human eye level, and scrawls on the note*
If someone is so foolish to leave their ox in the open, and the oxen is so foolish not to run when a wolf approaches, the wolf deserves a good beef dinner.
If a wolf is so foolish not to notice the stench of a stick-wielding halfling, and not strong enough to make a meal of the halfling, then it deserves to be beaten with a stick.
That is the way things work.

I was not able to find the find the wolf who the halfling spoke of. However I did find some old bones and a rotting wolf pelt. The pack that roam the forest are indeed hungry.
Those that stray from the path are fair game. The wolves will not leave the remains of a halfling behind.
I will be watching.
