Lament For Aylana
« on: December 02, 2007, 11:12:51 AM »
Songs of the Sea

I.

The surf is pounding on the shore;
The echo sounds within my chest
And stirs my heart from sad unrest,
To pull it towards that unseen roar

But many days have passed since I
Left ocean's bosom for the land
And left first footprints in the sand
And bid my watery home goodbye.

Still it sings to me a sorrowful tune--
Heart's mournful cry of loss and ruth,
Of bitter memories of youth
And love extinguished far too soon

I cannot escape that lonesome cry--
Fathoms from shore on foreign land
She burns within me like a brand
Her name still in my every sigh.

Aylana! Too soon bid adieu.
A thousand years would be too brief
For such a love, and such a grief;
A hundred cleaved my heart in two.

I sing Aylana's last lament
Far from my home and her cold grave
As grief breaks on me, wave by wave
Long after mourning days are spent.

So listen then, to her elegy:
The tale of young love too soon dead,
And how the tide ran crimson red
And tears filled Shindaleria's sea.
