new death system idea

a while back, I was on a server that automatically gave you a DT if your character died, but was not raised ( ie, you respauned) .  I wonder if this might not work on Layo as well?  with the ability to use raise dead scrolls and clerics, it seems like it has some potiential.  at the same time, if the manufacture of soul stones can be wrencehd from the temples, it could give an added boost to the Layo economy, through the sale of stones and scrolls.  just a thought for discussion. :)

Not sure any change would be practical but something along those lines where dieties and temples play a part sounds interesting. Not sure about the raise dead part always working - have visions of poor cleric characters being woken up...interrupted...dragged around the world ..to fix other peoples deaths etc  ;)

Is very similar to what you are suggesting, and much later it was stated that anything which does not have a risk of an SS loss at death would require existing lore to change, which would not be done lightly.

In this system loss of a soul strand becomes a conscious decision. The character having to pay a toll to the soul mother to return to the plane of the living. There is the hope that they will be raised before a respawn is forced. There are some really good systems for moving corpses and raising the dead on other NWN servers. This system could be used for Layo 2.

From the long post, reposted as it tends to get loss.  Your idea is pretty similar to the stragen suggestion.

I feel selfishly obligated to point out that I hammered out the details of the corpse-carry system. :)
