Angela__: Think of it this way, would you rather have Hardy with you where you can watch him, or unattended?
Argali__: Argali prefers him locked up.
Angela__: *nods* Indeed, but that is not possible.
Argali__: *shakes her head* Argali does not trravel with the dogs. *folds her arms*
Alantha_: Oh, for crying out loud...
Sasha___: Tur our' ziazha azpour'k urk'ahth ar k'ath zhurhnt, Azhkazna?
________{ Do you care about others in this world, Argali? }
Sasha___: Azha k'ao rurk lurha alrhurhkazrk k'azr ur'h 'azkhat urwa 'azhthazk'?
________{ Are they not more important than our hatred of Hardragh? }
Argali__: Azhkazna ziazhath waurh lazro k'arkth. 'urrur'h 'ak' azlurrkthk k'al.
________{ Argali cares for many things. Honour high amongst them. }
Argali__: Awa Azhkazna khazganth zhak' 'al, th'a ziurrturrath zh'azk 'a turath.
________{ If Argali travels with him, she condones what he does. }
Alantha_: Damnable dwarf... Someone make her mad and make a run for it.
Argali__: Then go. Bewarre the fleas you catch frrom lying down with the dogs.
Sallaron: Argali... *sighs* Look... they're going... regardless of who you want or don't want to go...
Sallaron: ... and basically... I don't think you "want" for the people you despise to be the ones to go and claim victory... and have them said that...
Sallaron: That... Argali... was perhaps... too scared... to go.
Sallaron: Just... just go... and show them how its bloody done... what honour is. And deal with this when we get back.
Argali__: *takes a Defender's "immoveable" stance unconsciously*
Sallaron: Deal?
Argali__: *digs her heels in*
Sasha___: Waak'k zhak' la Thathkah... k'aha ath 'urrur'h ar k'azk... k'aha ath 'urrur'h ar ur'h ziaz'tha.
________{ Fight with me Sister... there is honour in that... there is honour in our cause. }
Argali__: *folded arms*
Sallaron: *sighs* Fine. And let all know from their own mouths... when the time came to actually bloody do something... the ones with all that dishonour went and fought...
Sallaron: Whilst the great dwarf Argali sat around a campfire and ate apples.
Argali__: *just frowns at Sallaron's remark*
Sallaron: Frown all ya want... but thats whats gonna happen. A poor excuse.
Alantha_: What the blazers is keeping you?
Alantha_: There are dark elves to kill on the way.
Angela__: *pokes Sall* Let it go.
Sallaron: Nothing now... I'm done. *turns and heads off, giving Argali one more pleading look*
Angela__: It's clear that the dog got more guts then any dwarf.
Alantha_: So will you move it? You are letting Sasha down over a dog?
Argali__: *grits jaw*
Alantha_: *shrugs* fine so be it, are you still joining Sasha?
Argali__: Argali iz not the one letting anyone down.
Alantha_: Sure is if you ask me, but ask Sasha instead.
Angela__: Sasha, we can't wait all day for you
Sallaron: *calls back just before he leaves town* C'mon you lot... leave her if she's that determined to do nothing!
Angela__: Argali must make up her own mind.
Sasha___: No... I'm coming.
Sasha___: I hope you make the right decision, Argali.

// The Spirit of the North: Departure
//
//  This is the first time Argali has seen to Abiorn since Seek & Secure,
// and the first real opportunity she has had to speak with Steel.
// The setting is Leringard docks as the group gathers...
//

Abiorn: Hallo hallo hallo!
Steel : *sniffs* What's this... a crowd in my city in the middle of the night.
Abiorn: Greetings aye aye and around and all.
Argali: *on hearing Abiorn, turns around*
Steel : *looks from person to person, nodding to those he knows, surveying those he doesn't*
Argali: *her brow creases in a heavy frown*
Steel : *rubs the back of his masked helm*
Abiorn: *raises a brow to Argali* Something amiss, Madam dwarf?
Steel : *clears his throat*
Argali: *to Abiorn* You arre not making the death magic if you arre not getting yourr way, no?
Abiorn: It all depends on whether or not a close friend of mine forces my hand in a rather selfish and unexplained way. *raises a brow to Steel with a fickle grin*
Argali: Mmm... *eyes Steel pointedly*
Argali: Killing the memberrs of the grroup does not make forr the good jourrney, no?
Steel : *looks from Abiorn to Argali and back, his mask hiding all expression*
Abiorn: You do know those wrinkles stick if you frown too often, don't you? *points to her forehead*
Argali: She has much to be concerrned about. *pointedly, to Abiorn*
Steel : They had fair warning, Argali. Several warnings.
Argali: Death was harrdly the appropriate response.
Abiorn: *sighs* Are you seriously going to press this old issue Argali? After all the words spoken, all the explanations and concessions and agreements amongst those actually involved... you maintain your righteous concern and accusation?
Argali: And in the end, you *indicates Steel* did what they werre going to do.
Steel : But this is a new day, and a new adventure, and one that does not deal with dire threats, but the spirit of knowledge and exploration! We await a ship to take us into the unknown.
Abiorn: *waves his hand dismissively to Argali* They attacked first... and three times.
Steel : Timing, dear dwarf... timing.
Argali: Zo, the killing the grroup was forr nothing, in the end.
Argali: *to Abiorrn* They harrdly "attacked".
Abiorn: I've made my concessions. Some listen, some do not. Leave it at that.
Argali: Do you pay them the wereguild forr slaying them? *to Abiorn*
Abiorn: *tilts head* I'm afraid I missed a zzzz in those words Argali and I am not translating your dwarven.
Argali: The werreguild iz the boon, the compenzation forr killing them.
Abiorn: *blinks a few times* I'm still yet at a loss.
Argali: When you murrder zomeone, do you not think the recompense iz due? *to Abiorn*
Abiorn: Ah good, then gold is owed to Steel as well.
Argali: Steel was not slain.
Abiorn: Nor were you, but you seem to be quite the lawdealer in these times, don't you.
Abiorn: Does this city have you under contract for such duty?
Argali: Zomeone has to make the morral stand. *pointedly*
Argali: Lest we arre all nothing morre than brrigands and merrcenaries.
Steel : *to Tim* Argali is deciding whether she will be able to tolerate the company on a long voyage into the unknown.
Abiorn: *holds a finger to his lips and points it to Argali, then turns*
Steel : Let her work it out. She will make her decision, and we will move on.
Argali: Perrhaps it iz zomething forr you to be conziderring. *to Abiorn*
Abiorn: I appreciate your concern on the issue Argali, and I will give it due thought.
Abiorn: *nods once to her*
Argali: *tilts her head in acknowledgment*
Steel : *glances at Abiorn*

// The Spirit of the North: Departure
//
// Later, as the ship makes its journey northwards...
//

Steel : *places both hands on the railing*
Steel : You should not have called him out in front of everyone, Argali.
Argali: *returns a dubious look to Steel* Why? Iz he ashamed of what he does?
Steel : He has no reason to be. He trusted me, and made decisions based on that trust. He did not kill without warning. He was not unprovoked.
Argali: Killing was hardly the appropriate response, no?
Argali: The magickerrs have the other means, no?
Steel : *looks out over the ocean*
Steel : You can disagree with his decision.
Steel : But calling him out in front of a crowd does little to prove your rightness, more to damage it.
Argali: *purses her lips at Steel's remark*
Argali: Rightness iz not changed by wherre it iz called.
Steel : *watches the creature, swaying with the motion of the boat*
Abiorn: **Sits down leaning on the railing. He mutters a word just as he closes his eyes and plops invisibly on the floor**
Steel : And for that very reason you should not have called him out in the crowd, Argali.
Argali: If you arre not prroud of what you do, you should not do it, no?
Steel : *turns to look at Argali*
Argali: *looks to Steel*
Steel : Abiorn is not the same as I, he questions and frets and hurts, still unsure of his place. I am a killer, yet I am not proud or ashamed of who I am. It is my place, my calling. It needs to be done.
Steel : So call me a murderer all you like. But Abiorn is not.
Steel : Push him, and he may become one.
Argali: *frowns* We arre marrked by ourr own actions.
Argali: Therre iz no escaping that.
Steel : Indeed we are. The blood on your axe and my sword are the same.
Argali: Zometimes we have to be challenged by otherrs to know who we really arre.
Steel : We give fair warning to those that attack our home shores, but should they come, we kill them.
Steel : I disagree with your actions in Leringard, yet I would not care, save that the gnome has been a friend and boon against a common enemy.
Argali: Argali disagrreed with you risking the second razing of Lerringarrd to satisfy yourr own need forr revenge.
Steel : *looks back out over the ocean*
Argali: And that iz what caused zis prroblem to begin with, no?
Steel : .... I have not begun to take my revenge.... think what you will, but my actions were not as selfish as you may wish to believe.
Argali: If Lerringarrd had been razed again... that would have been quite zelfish, no?
Steel : Remember this, stout dwarf, that the day the White froze my city's harbors, I mourned, and it was by my own hands that it was rebuilt, down to the very planks of wood and nails that hold them in place.
Argali: Indeed. She does not underrstand why you would risk losing it again.
Steel : And remember that when the day comes that the dragons consider attacking my city again, they will remember my oath to make their wretched lives miserable, and they will have the proof to know that I can and will act upon my word.
Argali: You know Argali's axe will be with you should they do zo.
Steel : Call me selfish, call me the murderer I am, and I will not disagree. But I did, and do, what had to be done.
Argali: *purses her lips at Steel's remark* What ended up happening was what Sasha and the carrpenterr werre trrying to do. Except they ended up being killed forr it.
Steel : I'd kill Sallaron the Coward again myself. I mourn over Sasha's pain.
Argali: Well... that was beforre his verry bad choice.
Argali: *looks up to see Abiorn*
Abiorn: Shall I leave Argali?
Argali: *shakes her head to Abiorn's question*

//
// Spirit of the North: At Her Mercy
//
// Amidst the high storm, below desks, Abiorn broaches Argali's treatment
// of Ami...
//
Abiorn: Hallo hallo, Argali, aye.
Argali: *makes a nod to Abiorn*
Abiorn: *returns the nod amiably*
Abiorn: What think you, hmm?
Abiorn: Being a lawgiver and such.
Argali: Lawgiverr? Orr making the moral stand?
Abiorn: *tilts head*
Abiorn: Well... you have arrested those you'd been commanded to, no?
Argali: Arrested? You arre referring to those she apprehended?
Abiorn: If by "she", you mean "you", and not "she", then aye, she being I would assume as such.
Abiorn: *catches Steel's glance with a grin the returns to silent but moving lips*
Argali: *frowns a little then continue to talk softly to Abiorn*
Steel : *grips the table, hoping it's bolted to the floor*
Argali: The dog G'orrk and the dog Harrdragh and the dog Tobias attack Masterr Kobal.
Abiorn: *swallows hard*
Argali: Masterr Fenrrir tries to capturre the dog G'ork when he shows his face at the meeting with the Fisterrion dog.
Abiorn: Ah... aye, so I have heard. And for that I am unimpressed. Though, Kobal is often quite narrowsighted... like a hole in the ground towards something his lord said he should grab at... in that manner. But aye, for that I am unimpressed.
Argali: Apparently the dog G'ork has the long history of doing the bad things.
Steel : *finding a new handhold on the table, Steel looks to Argali a moment*
Argali: Zo, the Ami, who it zeems has the verry bad taste in the men, comes to his aid.
Abiorn: Aye... I am skeptical of him. But, of Ami I speak. She is a beautiful fool at heart. I would ask that you not arrest her again, or sit on her for that matter.
Steel : *then steals a peek at Abiorn*
Abiorn: Like children, there are those we must deal with softly.
Argali: Zo, she has the loyalty, but it iz misplaced.
Abiorn: Who is to judge the whims of another's heart.
Argali: However, she enables the dog G'ork's escape, zo zis iz why she was apprehended.
Abiorn: *sighs, somewhat helplessly and beaten*
Abiorn: I can not argue that, Argali. I merely ask to take care in your dealings with her, aye?
Abiorn: We choose sides, and one must stand accountable if they are of any worth... but many take time finding direction in their worth.
Argali: She iz verry careless in herr dealings.
Abiorn: If one presses them harshly in their ignorance, then that ignorance leads them oppositionally in a direction they will likely not recover from.
Argali: Argali sets the example. They can see, and follow, orr not.
Argali: What morre iz to be done?
Abiorn: If it is not the Soul Mother's grasp you offer around one's neck with finality, it is an enemy you make if you ignore the softer touch that is ever present.
Steel : *interjects, rubbing his chin* You're a softer gnome than you look, Abiorn. But then again... "Children are meant to be taught, not killed."
Abiorn: Indeed, Steel.
Steel : And poor elves take centuries to become adults, it seems.
Argali: Elves... *rolls her eyes*
Steel : *chuckles*
Argali: Eitherr they arre too childish, orr too arrogant. Wherre iz the wisdom of the ages?
Abiorn: Let us look at this with a relative stance. I could encircle Argali in an illusion that would leave her writhing dead on the floor in seconds. And I mean that not out of threat, I mean it out of fact. Likewise, while I sleep Steel could thrust a blade through my chest. It is this I speak of. We are not beasts of finality unless pressed to where we break. And it is our own...
Abiorn: temperance... which leads us to how we must resolve differences.
Abiorn: If we are not to snap our fingers and have each problem disappear... then we must deal with them smartly.
Abiorn: Such is for me, such is for you, Argali.
Argali: If you do zomething bad, you should bearr the consequences, no?
Abiorn: So, in the case of a relatively innocent yet dangerous elf, who acts out of love, the answer is temperance.
Argali: Perrhaps herr time on the gaol gives herr the time to think on herr actions.
Abiorn: Tell me Argali, if a dwarven youngling throws a rock and it hits me squarely in the head... should I respond as though it were an Arc Giant?
Steel : Consequences... or punishment... there is a difference there, it seems to me.
Abiorn: Were I a black wizard, I'd simply slay it's entire family and allude all future threat.
Argali: *arches a brow to Abiorn* The comparison iz not appropriate.
Abiorn: But corathite mages we are not.
Steel : Though I admit... I'm more likely to cut a throat than capture someone... *rubs the back of his helm* ... maybe I shouldn't be speaking in this conversation... *coughs*
Abiorn: An exaggeration I admit, but you do see sense in this, aye?
Argali: Argali has not responded out of proportion.
Abiorn: *takes a half breath and pauses in thought*
Argali: In fact, she iz morre than reasonable.
Steel : I'm confused... Are you suggesting Ami's incarceration was out of proportion for her "crime"?
Abiorn: I suggest that you do not jail the family of a villain to get at a villain.
Abiorn: For you will quickly find how far that family extends.
Argali: She aided and abeited the escape of the felon. Forr zis therre iz the consequence.
Steel : Ah, I see, Abiorn.
Argali: Herr shorrt stay in the gaol was in response to that.
Argali: If she iz zuch a child, she needs to learn the actions have the consequences.
Abiorn: *frowns and takes a full breath*
Steel : Jail's the lesson, hmm? *seems to be speaking to himself, pondering*
Abiorn: Well, let me counter that Argali. You act under the banner of one god. Were I to act under the banner of another, perhaps in a way that demanded retribution of friends and those I loved... would you deem my action out of proportion if I left the jail she was contained in as rubble on the ground as I fled with her?
Abiorn: Innocent guards of one banner under that rubble?
Argali: Now you arre talking of revenge, Misterr Abiorn.
Steel : *tapping his chin*
Abiorn: No, I am speaking of freeing those I love as family.
Abiorn: Do not confuse revenge, law, and matters of protection all as one.
Argali: But you arre not accepting the punishment of yourr family for theirr actions. Zis iz revenge.
Abiorn: If a man who owns a keep has his laws and names his villains, and the wife of a villain happens to be my sister, and the wife does naught but to conceal their fleeing husband... and she is thereby arrested as bait... Should I not then question the word of this "man with a keep and jail"?
Argali: Iz not "naught".
Abiorn: Then tell me of her offense, for I will admit my ignorance.
Abiorn: Name the magic, name the means.
Abiorn: And moreover, name against whom and under what circumstance.
Argali: The Ami was locked up forr the verry shorrt time. Argali has spent longerr time on watch than zis.
Steel : Abiorn... Be at peace, gnome. I've not seen you so worked up in a long time. Argali upholds the law. You and I... we .. *glances at Argali*... we don't view the law in the same way.
Argali: The "law" iz merrely the way to behave to otherrs.
Steel : If you say so, Argali.
Argali: Do not be hurting, nor taking. Help if you can.
Argali: Zome people arre thinking they want to do what they want to do, with no regarrd forr the otherrs.
Argali: Zis iz what the "Law" iz trrying to redirect.
Steel : Someone has to be allowed to do the hurting, Argali... or else there would be no one to enforce the law. But then, who decides who is worthy to enforce the law?
Steel : It has long been curious to me that those that uphold the law must continuously break it.
Argali: The worrthy one iz the one that obeys the law, no?
Steel : Wrong.
Abiorn: *smiles faintly*
Argali: *arches a dubious brow at Steel and looks away*
Steel : Putting someone in jail, whipping them, that is hurting them, yes?
Steel : Yet it is lawful to do so? By the same law that says "do not hurt others"?
Argali: *holds up her hand* Do not be calling Argali "wrong".
Abiorn: Rael has laws.
Steel : *takes a breath* Forgive me. We have differing... views... I do not intend to insult you.
Argali: *gives a scowling look at the mention of Rael*
Abiorn: *notes her scowl and nods once simply* And so you see the many angles of good.
Steel : I only mean to help you understand that the "laws" by which Abiorn follows with regard to those he calls his own... Ami... are not the laws by which you, and many others, abide.
Argali: *then she make a slight grin* Then, the bad people circumvent the idea of the law forr theirr own ends, no?
Abiorn: So would say Rael.
Abiorn: He brings law, he brings much order.
Steel : We all have our own... ends. Suffice it to say, I'd rather be at your end than Rael's, Argali.
Abiorn: Why not support his command of jailing?
Argali: Of courrse. People arre always thinking they arre the right.
Abiorn: And yourself being one exception.
Argali: Everryone does what everyone does in the belief they arre right, no?
Abiorn: *laughs loudly*
Abiorn: What is it you guide yourself by, Argali? An old tome?
Argali: *makes a grin at Abiorn's laughter*
Steel : I like old tomes.
Argali: *nods to Abiorn* The kin have learnt the thing orr two overr the ages, no?
Abiorn: Have they really?
Argali: *gives Abiorn a strange look*
Abiorn: You speak as though your conscience is dictated by something infalliably written.
Argali: *makes a slight grin*
Argali: She does herr best.
Abiorn: I am no exception, for if I'd ever thought I was most often wrong in my moral compass, I'd likely throw myself from a large cliff... in the Deep perhaps. I do believe I am often right in my actions, though sometimes they are more delicate then that.
Argali: *listens as Abiorn speaks*
Abiorn: My conscience dictates that a friend attacked warrants attack in turn for example. And in this comes a tricky balance, for I wholeheartedly accept my fault in method.
Argali: Zis iz the trrick, no? When they arre attacked, and when they arre brrought to account forr theirr actions.
Abiorn: Ah, but think of your own woes with me. You speak of potential honor in my reaction, but a poor path chosen. I say the same to you.
Argali: *makes a knowing grin to Abiorn*
Abiorn: And all that said... I was still not there. And as such I can not speak to any one woman or man or dwarve's or gnome's intent.
Steel : ... And there's a reason why I didn't stick around that day...
Abiorn: Though I can say that those that respond to what they know, who they know, and who they trust in these lands... they act with varying temperance. And that is something that only the very wise can maintain in all actions.
Abiorn: Keeping mind to, that is.

//
// Something that didn't get a chance to be answered in the above
// conversation (not all points got addressed; hard to keep up sometimes),
// while Abiorn ascribes to Argali the epithet of "lawgiver", this is not
// something that is intrinsic to her. For Argali, it is a matter of honour and
// behaving well, rather than following a (rigid) dogma of "Law".
//
Steel : The captain sure puts a lot of faith in his crew.
Steel : Letting them weather the storm without him. Not many captains I've seen do such.
Argali: Therre iz harrdly anything to be done when in zuch a storrm, no?
Steel : Plenty to be done, just that none of it may work... *chuckles*
Abiorn: Hmmhmm, indeed.
Steel : But it is a trick of knowing when to bring up the sails and when to bring them down, when to fight the current and when to go with it.
Steel : Usually the captain makes those calls... he must really believe his first mate can do the work.
Steel : That, or he doesn't mind crashing.
Abiorn: Aye, unless he is near a drunken retirement of sorts, perhaps?
Argali: *to Steel* Orr perrhaps the vain hope that you arre doing zomething that affects the outcome. *grins*
Steel : In which case, we're going to become very cold, very fast.
Abiorn: "Let the youngsters show what I've taught them" sort of thing, perhaps?
Steel : *nods to both Argali and Abiorn in turn* Something like that.

//
Argali: *murmurs a simple dwarven sea shanty* Zha'ha tururlat... zha'ha tururlat... zha'ha tururlat, zha'ha tururlat!
______{ *murmurs a simple dwarven sea shanty* We're doomed... we're doomed... we're doomed, we're doomed! }

// Fenrir WLQD - Deep Tidings (First Session)
//
// Post session dramatics for Argali.
//

The alabaster giants turned and made their way out of the hall of King Rory Rockfist. Argali watched them intently as they left, her jaw still clenched.

The attention of those assembled now returned to the ambassadors standing to the side of King Rory. The ambassadors of Ulgrid, of Norand, and of Rael.

Argali's eyes burned her hatred into the Rael ambassador again, the tension returned to her fist and then her arm, her body trembling ever so slightly. Fortunately, though, it was not for long, as it appeared all had been said. Each of the ambassadors paid their respects to King Rory and took their leave, except the Rael ambassador, whom just turned and walked out of the hall.

Balkan announced to the assembled group that the audience was over. As they paid their respects, King Rory motioned Fenrir over for a few private words. A few of the others sought out each other out to continue the conversation they had started before the meeting.

Argali seethed where she stood. Barely she kept herself in check, but as each moment passed, the broiling anger threatened to break through.

She remembered the actions of the hero of Bloody Gate in another time. He had disappeared into a side room as want was needed. She took the path as best she remembered it, and found herself in a small storage room.

The door slammed loudly behind her.

"ARRGHHH!" she bellowed as loudly as she could, her voice rising as her exultation released the pressure from within.

She king-hit the table in front of her with all her strength and her frustration. Fortunately, the table was solidly made.

Expecting release by such violent expression, instead her anger took her. She slammed her head into the top of the table. The burning inside her seemed placated by the sensation of pain from without.

Bang, bang, bang, the table sounded each time.

She slumped down onto the hard stone floor, blood running from the crown of her nose.

"King Rory Rockfist, you take such liberties with Argali's loyalty.

"To ask her such a thing..."

The tears welled up in her eyes, and she sat there in wretched silence. Eventually, she allowed herself to cry. Two pillars of her character, her fierce loyalty to her kin and her hatred of their enemies, had always worked in unison to provide her with such strength. Now they had been in conflict, and had threaten to tear at her from within.

"Kramir..." she whispered.

// Winds of War
//
// Caerwyn and Argali find their careful work to attempt an unlikely alliance
// against a common scourge trampled by old prejudices, leading Argali to
// clash with Sasha.
//

Caerwyn: The orcs I've spoken with are not the bloodthirsty types you've been led to believe, I'm guessing.
Caerwyn: They're families. *sighs* They have their kids and oldsters with them...
__Sasha: So?
Caerwyn: They seem to just want to be left alone by Rael. *spits to the side*
__Sasha: What about the claims of them raiding the farmsteads?
Caerwyn: Have you seen any evidence of them attacking people? Or is that just what you've been told?
__Sasha: What did they tell you?
Caerwyn: I saw a Prantz supply train loosely guarded but with a dwarven ambushing force close to hand...
Caerwyn: These orcs are being baited in my view.
Caerwyn: I didn't have to do much convincing of the orcs to leave it alone.
Caerwyn: This is a trap within a trap.
__Sasha: Orcs are creatures of chaos... They pray on settled folk the world over.
Caerwyn: I'm thinking this is all an excuse to move Prantz forces into the area and keep them here.
Caerwyn: I've seen over 150, not counting those here.
__Sasha: Our orders stand we eliminate the orcs. Those of you not willing to do so are welcome to wait with the ship.

Caerwyn: You don't think it's worth a talk first? With the ones I spoke to?
__Sasha: We are here with a job to do, Caerwyn.
_Argali: Zha turr'k zhurhg waurh k'a Turk wahurl Rhhazrkj. *to Sasha*
_______{ We don't work for the Dog from Prantz. *to Sasha* }
Caerwyn: A job set by whom? Rael's people? This is a terrible mistake.

__Sasha: I see them.
__Sasha: Ready!
_Argali: Hold! *calls to the orcs*
__Sasha: ATTACK!
_Argali: *frowns*
Caerwyn: Leave them!
_______: *the orcs are dispatched in short order*
__Sasha: Everyone okay? Good... Lets push forward.
Caerwyn: Dear gods! And you call the orcs blood thirsty. *spits*
__Sasha: This is war, Caerwyn.
_Argali: K'a zhazh ath zhak' Hazan.
_______{ The war is with Rael. }
Caerwyn: And you're fighting on the wrong side, in my view. *to Sasha*
__Sasha: That's your opinion, Caerywn. But there is more at stake here than you think.
_Argali: Our' azha laththark k'a rhurark, thathkah. *to Sasha*
_______{ You are missing the point, sister. *to Sasha* }
__Sasha: Rur... A turrk k'arg A azl.
_______{ No... I don't think I am. }
_Argali: K'azk zhazthr'k az k'athkaurr.
_______{ That wasn't a question. }

Caerwyn: I managed to convince them to leave the beacon towers alone...
Caerwyn: Though, if they'll still hold to that after this slaughter, is anyone's guess now!
Caerwyn: There is! And it's Rael's doing as far as I can tell.
__Sasha: Caerwyn... Stop making accusations.
Caerwyn: What better for his purposes than an all out war so close to Lor?!
_Argali: Ziazahzhor thrhaazgth k'a kh'k'. *to Sasha*
_______{ Caerwyn speaks the truth. *to Sasha* }
Caerwyn: SPEAK WITH THEM BEFORE KILLING ANY MORE!
_Argali: *nods at Caerwyn's words*
__Sasha: Since when is Caerwyn in charge? *said very quietly*
Caerwyn: When I told them of your presence, they dispersed... These were stragglers.
__Sasha: Turr'k nak our'h 'azkhat waurh Hazan zinur't zh'azk zha azha turark 'aha, thathkah.
_______{ Don't let your hatred for Rael cloud what we are doing here, sister. }
_Argali: Poazhazha our' tur rurk thnarh our' razig k'hur'k' Hazan'th naazth', thathkah.
_______{ Beware you do not slip you neck through Rael's leash, sister. }
__Sasha: A'nn rhhakart A tatr'k 'aazh k'azk.
_______{ I'll pretend I didn't hear that. }
_Argali: Turr'k. Ak zhazth kururt aztgazia.

//  Do Dragons Weep Part 2
//
//  Having only three of the four keys required to open the portal,
//  Argali tries to pretend to the gate keeper that she has the fourth.
//
//  The descriptive text is Nova's, the emotes Argali's actions.
//  The actions outside the dreaming and dice rolls have been omitted.
//  Only minimal massaging for presentation.
//
//  Argali's own [POST=1703633]narration[/POST] of what happened.
//

As Argali places her hand on the orb, she falls to the floor in a trance like state like the others.

In your mind is a grey haze. Memories ebb and flow toward your spot of consciousness as you walk a path in the mist. The sensations are not entirely unpleasant, nor are they painful. As you walk along, faces of those important to you seem to linger longer. Perhaps mentors, siblings, parents or the like.

The memory image you have of Sasha walks beside you as you see a great silver dragon ahead. It says nothing. There is no verbal or mental communication, 'it' being both the memory and the dragon image.

*Argali smiles to Sasha as though she is actually there*

As you move closer you see the dragon is extending a clawed hand toward you, palm up.

*Argali looks briefly to the dragon before recollecting Acacea's instructions. She thinks deeply/focuses her thoughts on a sliver key.*

The fog/mist rolls in to cover the path to the dragon, but you do not awake. The image of Sasha stays at your side but pain begins to throb in your temples. Your physical body breathes faster.

*Argali rubs at her temples*

Something from outside the dream blows the misted path clear, the dragon still standing there expectantly. The pain in your head eases somewhat.

*Argali stands straight once more, and takes a step closer to the dragon. She focuses on her memories of Acacea and all the keys that adorn Acacea. She once again thinks deeply of a silver key...*

You suddenly feel a constriction in your physical breathing. A glimmer of a silver key, like a ghostly image but nothing substantial and the expression of the dragon is not amused.

*Argali turns to look to Sasha briefly*

Your breathing of the physical self becomes painful, as if suffocating. Sasha mouths one word. "Honor", or something like it.

*Argali straightens up once again, and takes a step or two closer to the dragon. She reaches out with her hand, sliding it onto the dragon's expectant claw. She opens her hand (while touching the dragon's) as though dropping something into the palm of the dragon, and whispers "honour".*

The claws of the dragon grip around your hand.

*Argali looks a little concerned as her right hand is engulfed by the huge claw, then looks up to the dragon*

You loose feeling in the hand; a blast of intense pain, then nothing.

*Argali looks up to the dragon, trying to see his head past his huge closed claw*

You sense something changed...

*At the end of the dragons claw, she (tries to) speak* "Rofirein's son, do you not hear her?"

No real sounds come from your mouth. The grip is still on your hand, it is still numb. The dragon's attention however does look down the path and not at you.

*Argali follows the dragon's gaze down the path*

The parting mists reveal Jennara walking toward you, just her and something in her hand.

*Argali looks somewhat relieved to see the Commander approach, though not entirely sure Jennara isn't some sort of phantasm*

Jennara stands beside you.

*Argali looks sheepishly to Jennara, with her hand stuck in the dragons claw*

The force on your hand lessens as the dragon releases its grip.

*Argali withdraws her hand from the dragon's embrace*

A burst of pain at the release. In your dream the hand looks normal but you cannot move it. The crystal (if apparent on Jennara) disappears.

*Argali looks quizzically at Jennara's gift to the dragon, and tries to make out the word Jennara mouthed*

Jennara stands beside you, as does Sasha. The key is in the hand of the dragon.

*Argali looks closer to see the color of the key*

The dragon fades and time seems to speed up. You get the sense of passage of ages. Sasha ages in front of your eyes, as does Jennara.

*Argali looks quite concerned until she realises what might be taking place*

They become old, enfeebled until at last death takes them.

*Argali has long accepted that she would out live her human friends, and is a little relived that Sasha lived to old age rather than dying on the battlefield, apart from the slight shock of seeing her actually age. In the moment, she probably includes Jennara in that, not having much idea how old halflings live to.*

Her right hand is now lifeless and partly transformed into something.

Argali's Hand
« Reply #11 on: October 04, 2010, 05:09:01 AM »
// The "something" Argali's hand has changed into:

Quote from: minerva
Visual : The hand is a silvery black skintone mottled color from finger tips (nails are silvery) to the carple joint (wrist). There is no distinct demarkation of normal vs abnormal tissue (ie a line), rather it blends into the arm.

 Feeling. There is no pain but random tingling does occur from elbow to fingers. There is no sense of sensation (tactile) but if she were to hold it over a flame it would feel heat and eventually the burn. The appendage is cooler than a healthy hand but but not cold. It would be susceptable to tissue damage from temp extremes and RP would be hyper sensation at extremes.

 Movement is very limited, the wrist does not bend well. I can be bent into a normal range of motion (ie the appendage is mallable like stiff clay or molten metal). The fingers can manually be bent to hold something but are not under the control of her nervous system.

 Until we are out of the bubble there is little need for regular RP of the hand. If those involved want to PM me plans /rp etc I will fill them in.

 Minerva

This is why Argali has currently changed to using her (one-handed) battleaxe and shield. She is fighting left-handed (axe in left hand, shield strapped onto her right arm), despite what the graphics depict in-game; she is ambidextrous. //

Argali's Tirade
« Reply #12 on: October 04, 2010, 05:37:43 AM »
//
//  Argali was not pleased by the development,
//  and perhaps feeling a touch betrayed...
//
//  Filtered for side conversations and trimmed for length.
//

_Argali: *begins to stir, her eyes perhaps glassed over by a few tears*
Iellwen: Argali? *staring at her*
Jennara: *wipes her face*
_Argali: *sits up, and wipes her eyes, perhaps with a slight smile on her face until...*
Caerwyn: Stay still, Argali.
_Argali: *until she looks down at her hand!*
Jilsepo: *winces*
_Argali: OH!
Jennara: *frowns*
_Argali: OHHH!!! *almost bellows*
Jennara: *quiet voice* Myhha.  Myhha.  Myhha.
_Argali: *her eyes flash back to the silver dragon statue*
_Argali: OIII!!! *her voice rings in dwarven indignation*
_Daniel: *moves closer reaching for Argali's silvered hand*
_Argali: *she tries to move her hand, eyeing the silver dragon statue* What have you done? *she cries, fully expecting a response*
_Argali: *focuses on trying to make her hand respond*
_Daniel: *hesitates waiting for Argali to stop struggling* If I could just...
Jilsepo: *looks from Jennara to Argali*
Jennara: *takes a deep breath* I don't know what happened. The dragon was holding her hand, but it let go.
_Daniel: *notes her anger and lowers the wand, looking a touch petulant* I am only trying to help you, Defender.
_Argali: *turns to look to Jennara*
Jennara: *quiet voice* Myhha.
_Argali: *her anger still quiet evident* +What+ key did you give the dragon?
Jennara: The one from... him. *points left*
_Argali: The black key?
Jennara: *nods*
_Argali: *frowns, still nursing her hand*
_Argali: Was that wise?
Jennara: *quiet voice* I don't know.
_Daniel: You were... you were failing, Defender. The commander saved your life, I suspect.
_Argali: Black key? Zilverr drragon? *almost impatiently*
_Argali: *briefly flashes a look to Daniel*
_Daniel: *cringes under glare* Tis true... Your hand was changing before the Commander came over with the key!
_Argali: Herr hand... *looks down at it once more*
_Daniel: *steps forward again* Now, will you allow myself or El to look at it at least?
Jennara: *quiet voice* I would trade if I could.  Maybe there is a way.
_Daniel: Stubborn dwarf. *somehow manages to sound respectful*
_Argali: *looks like she might begin to sob*
_Argali: *then her eyes flash*
Caerwyn: Hold fast, Argali. Let Daniel try.
Iellwen: *comes up to rest a hand once again on Argali's shoulder*
_Argali: Magic! *angrily*
_Daniel: Aye, Magic. *determined*
_Argali: *releases a full blown tirade in harsh, grating dwarven; it almost accosts the ears to hear it spoken*
Jennara: *quiet voice* If I were not stubborn, we would have taken the key sooner and this would not have happened. It is my fault.
_Daniel: *stands firm under the barrage, only his eyes betraying the hurt he feels*
Jennara: *quiet voice* Don't be mad at the others.
_Argali: *doesn't seem to hear anyone in her long rant*
_Daniel: *holds out his hand again, with a patient look as she goes on and on*
_Argali: Waur'n, waank'o, khaazzi'ahur'th lazkazi!
_______: Foul, filthy, treacherous magic!
Jilsepo: *raises an eyebrow at the dwarven language*
_Connor: *gives the scene in front of him some time to play out... for now, anyway*
Caerwyn: *tilts his head and looks at Jil*
_Argali: *goes on and on in her tirade*
_Argali: *her voice begins to go hoarse*
Jilsepo: *looks to Caerwyn* You don't want to know.
_Drexia: *waits, watching Argali with a mask of equanimity*
_Argali: *eventually, just stands there, fuming*
_Argali: *looks quite immovable*
_Daniel: *turns back to Argali* Does reason resume or shall I have Tuggins give you a hug, Defender?
_Argali: *and unapproachable*
_Drexia: *continues to wait, her face unchanging, her posture patient*
_Tuggin: *looks at her again, then back to Daniel* Ummm...
_Daniel: *crosses his arms and steps back* I will not force treatment. Come to me when you are reasonable, Defender.
_Argali: *for the moment, her dwarven rage is quite all encompassing*
_Tuggin: Er... when you're ready, I think we're assembling at the other end of the room.
_Drexia: *stands a hair beyond arm's reach of Argali, trying to project calm and serenity at the fuming dwarf*
_Daniel: *gives Argali a backward glance and walks stiffly across the room*
Caerwyn: Come with me, Argali. We'll get this sorted out.
_Daniel: *mutters as he approaches Ferrit* Stubborn dwarves...
Caerwyn: *offers her his hand on her good side*
_Argali: *lets out one last shriek before withdrawing into herself*
Caerwyn: *takes her good hand in his and urges her along*
_Argali: *glowers at the silver dragon statue*
_Argali: "Thurr urwa Hurwaahaar." *shoots the dragon the foulest of looks*
_______: "Son of Rofirein." *shoots the dragon the foulest of looks*
_Argali: *nurses her hand between her side and her other arm*

//  Returning from the Pits, the group journey back to Xora's Tower...
//
_Ferrit: Could you look at Argali's hand, please? It seems like it's turned to stone.
_Tuggin: *nods in agreement*
_Tuggin: *gestures for Argali to move up*
_Daniel: *nods* I can effect no cure for Argali, perhaps your magic can. *geniune concern in his voice*
___Xora: *arches her brows somewhat and turns toward Argali*
_Argali: *looks a little uncertain*
_Argali: You arre not doing the amputation of it?
_Argali: Orr casting the magic on it?
_Daniel: *winces*
_Daniel: *pulls at his collar looking at the ceiling a faint blush on his cheeks*
___Xora: I'm no surgeon, good Dwarf, and if there is any casting it will be with your permission. Are we agreed?
_Tuggin: *grins, watching Daniel*
_Argali: *nods*
___Xora: Present yourself then, let's see what there is to see.
_Argali: *and draws off the right gauntlet*
_Argali: *she presents her hand, blackened and slivered as before*
_Daniel: Ahem... I have already attempted a restoration. We discussed what Argali mentioned earlier, am... er... *goes quiet at the sight of the arm*
___Xora: *doesn't visibly react to the sight of the arm and only stretches her arms outward then places them on either side of the arm. She stoops just a small amount for proper positioning...*
___Xora: *She looks over the arm's surface for a few moments then her focus shifts to something deeper, and once again she is silent and distant for a time*
_Argali: *holds her arm up a bit more to minimise the stooping required*
_Ferrit: *watches hopefuly*
_Drexia: *looks on quietly, intrigued*
_Daniel: *steps closer, again curious*
___Xora: *she narrows her eyes and seems to focus harder, despite not moving at all*
Jilsepo: *Stays quiet and watches the proceedings*
_Argali: *watches uncertainly*
_Daniel: *nods encouragingly to Argali*
_Argali: *her eyes flit back between her hand and Xora*
___Xora: *she straightens and shakes her head slowly* This... This is a matter of a different shade... *she taps her chin and looks across the bookshelves*
_Daniel: The more learned folk can examine it, the better your odds of a cure, Defender. *quietly*
___Xora: Excuse me please.
_Daniel: *steps aside quickly*
_Argali: *looks somewhat concerned at Xora's remark*
Jennara: *puts her face in her hands*
___Xora: Mm... *runs her fingertips over the middle shelf of books*
Iellwen: *watches Xora*
_Daniel: *scans a few titles from the other side*
___Xora: *drags out a hefty tome and carries it back the way she came*
_Argali: *still holds her hand up*
___Xora: *drops it down on the desk and opens, turning several large chunks of pages before beginning to turn through them more slowly*
___Xora: *absently* At ease, no magic will be flying tonight for your arm.
_Daniel: *nervous chuckle* I think that means you can lower it for now, Defender.
___Xora: Ah, yes... *reads over a page*
_Argali: *seems somewhat relieved by that as she lowers her arm*
___Xora: *nods slowly* Unsurprising, I'm sure you will find, this is Dragon Magic...
_Argali: *frowns to herself*
___Xora: *turns to focus on Argali* Something very rare indeed and not so well understood as other forms.
_Daniel: *glances at Connor*
_Connor: *listens with interest*
_Argali: *makes a small sigh*
___Xora: In all seriousness, your best chances for a 'cure' are with a dragon expert. Or a dragon.
_Daniel: *respect in his eyes then back to Argali*
_Argali: Oh.
_Daniel: Hmm... Do not the Lucindites have several Dragon scholars among their number?
_Connor: The Dragonlinks, yes.
___Xora: The Dragon Links *she nods to Daniel over her shoulder*
___Xora: *smirks slightly at Connor before turning back to Argali*
_Argali: *arches a brow*
___Xora: I can tell you little beyond this, I am afraid, but if you can suffer the presence of Lucindites to examine you or perhaps have a friend of the scalier sort... *trails off rather then repeat herself*
_Drexia: Perhaps, um... Rork O'Mollory, was it? Might know something...
_Daniel: There is also... the Golden Emerald. *quietly* She may if asked nicely or service is rendered, Defender.
Jennara: *quiet voice* I know a dragon.
_Connor: *raises his eyebrows at the mention of Rork*
_Argali: *frowns somewhat at the mention of friendly dragons*
___Xora: *glances around at the various speakers then back to Argali with an arched brow*
_Argali: *the looks to Jennara*
Jennara: *shrugs slightly*
Jennara: *quiet voice* Maybe we can talk to him.
_Drexia: Argali and I both met him at a meeting... *at Connor's raised eyebrows*
_Argali: *makes a nod at Drexia's remark*
_Connor: *mouths a silent "Ah" *
___Xora: *glances around, turning a bit to look to everyone*
___Xora: Any other matters to address?
_Argali: *begins regauntletting her hand*

1486-08-xx - Bankor Rockdust's Voyage
« Reply #16 on: April 07, 2012, 11:05:38 PM »
//
//  These events take place at the Harvest Ball and after.
//  In lieu of anything else, I'm using the Calendar date of August 1486.
//

Bankor Rockdust had sailed a very long way for his first trip away from Rhugal's Realm. From one end of the world to the other. What would his family think! Still, he had wanted to see the world, and when the invitation came from her... how could he refuse?

Travelling south along the coast of Dregar, the journey had gone on and on and on, such that he thought it might never end. Even the climate changed over the course of the voyage. When finally it had reached the port of Lor, the Toe of Dregar, he was told his journey was only a little over half completed!

Still, after such a long trip, he had reckoned himself somewhat of an experienced traveller. That was, until the next leg of the voyage across the open ocean. That had been unnerving, especially for a dwarf. It had been somewhat comforting to have the coast of Dregar always in sight, even if it was only a thin pale line on the horizon. Now, he felt a very small dwarf in a very small boat.

And that was before the storms had hit. Ugh. It had almost been unbearable. Lurching up and down, being towered over by great rolling black waves. He had taken his cue from the crew. They had not seemed like cutting their wrists or throwing themselves overboard in despair, so he had held on, held on to the reason he was making this perilous journey. And hoped to the Forge Lord he would make it.

Finally, finally they had made it to the coast of Alindor. He had strongly considered travelling overland from Katherian, but the crew had advised him that the journey around the coast would be more pleasant and much quicker. So, he steeled himself for another boat journey. They made good time, and when the ship drew within sight of the Fort of Kings, Bankor was actually enjoying the trip.

Even so, stepping onto the docks brought a sense of relief. He had made it! The [POST=1728596]message[/POST] waiting for him at the Inn of the One-Eyed Dolphin was unexpected. It also had the strange affect of dispersing the trauma of his travels, blowing them into the realm of yesterday; he had arrived, and she was close.

The next day, to his alarm, he had over slept! He had had trouble getting off to sleep in a bed that did not roll with the sea, but once he had gone, had fallen into a deep restorative rest. Hurriedly, he made himself ready, and was out the inn quick smart, only to be caught up in a strange city in the middle of a grand festival. He spend several hours [POST=1729199]wandering[/POST] about until the main pavilion had revealed itself.

He presented his invitation, and was ushered in. Still, the tent was full of tall humans, and finding his way through the throng was not easy.

Until... there she was, sitting in a corner, a vision of green and copper. Their eyes meet briefly, then she looked away. He was almost upon her before she looked up again at him, radiant, and so pleased to see him. He remembered himself, and bowed formally, then reached across to take her hand and plant a kiss.

"My Lady."

1486-08-xx - The Harvest Ball

The events leading up to the Harvest Ball had been quiet entertaining, though much of Bankor's attention was taken up by his escort. She seemed genuinely captivated by each spectacle and the endeavours of the participants. During this time, they had exchanged pleasant small talk and the occasional childhood anecdote.

They attended a ceremony for the fallen which was conducted by the King of Erilyn no less. She was obviously moved by the dedication of a magnificent statue to a certain halfling lass. She explained that this Chimes person had not only been involved in the restoration of the Jhemina to Layonara, but had also given her life in the pursuit of the Cure to the Dragon Poison. It caught Bankor off guard when he saw a tear glisten in the corner of her eye.

The ball held in the castle was another auspicious occasion. The Queen of Erilyn inducted several people into knighthood, some of whom his host was very familiar with. She also enjoyed the dancing, and put more and more dwarven enthusiasm into each dance as the night progressed.

But he did have to hold that hand of hers. At first, he could barely tell the difference through the velvet glove she wore. It had even been quite cute when they were sitting at the banquet table and she had leaned across to whisper into his ear to ask him to cut up her food for her, briefly adverting her eyes to her hand. However, as the evening had progressed, he had become more aware of how like cold putty the hand was. It was... unnatural, almost ghoulish.

And yet she bore it without any hint that anything was untoward. Another wound from battles fought and won and lost.

By the end of the evening, any semblance of formal dancing had given way to a more intrinsic nature as she capered up and down the hall at full clip. The dancing only ended when finally she took to a chair looking a little bedraggled, puffing at a stray lock from her copper fringe.

He escorted her back to her domicile. They walked through the cold night air together with barely a word spoken, carried by the euphoria from the night's festivities. On her doorstep, he bid her good eve. She reaching across to draw him closer and planted a brief kiss on his cheek before turning to steal away inside.

1486-08-xx - "Argali Trueaxe"

With the conclusion of the Harvest Ball festival, Bankor was feeling the anticlimax of the return of normalcy; he had travelled for weeks and weeks across vast oceans to spend several full and exciting days with his intended. Now, now he had the prospect of a long arduous return journey... alone.

And then she asked him if he would like to visit the famous Bloody Gate. Bloody Gate, an icon of dwarven resilience against overwhelming odds and a baleful foe. An offer he could not refuse, even if there had been no prospect of spending more time in her company.

They spend several weeks travelling along the King's Road together. Sometimes in the company of other travellers, merchants, or common folk, but mostly alone on foot. There were many hours to be filled, sometimes with quiet conversations about childhood anecdotes, stories from the war, strange folk, and bizarre adventures, but even about ordinary things, plain things, trivia. And although he was somewhat in awe of her as a warrior, and she was certainly self assured in her ability, she did not dominate. She was quiet happy for him to handle interactions with others; she did not interject or correct.

Bankor found the dwarves of Bloody Gate similar to his own kin. Both had been under siege throughout their respective long histories. It seemed that Bloody Gate had entered a time of relative peace, and yet there was still that huge ominous dark cloud haunting the entire horizon to the east. She had taken him into the foothills, up as far as a signpost promising all sorts of dire consequences should they go further. Peace, for now.

In a suggestion that caught him a little off guard, she proposed visiting to the Hills of Taur'en, to her clanhome. Back along the King's road they went, back to the Fort of Kings, then across western Erilyn, and finally into the Taur'en Hills. The minutiae of travel became more apparent to Bankor in this second leg of their journey, along with aching legs and sore feet.

Her clanhome was not quite what he was expecting, the first of many things. It was a modest hold somewhat hidden in the hills. The way thereto was little more than a path. However, clanfolk more than made up for this plainness in their exuberance to see their long absent daughter, and were warmly welcoming to her guest.

As time passed, Bankor became aware of a miasma that had initially been obscured by the plethora of introductions and gatherings. He gradually became aware that something was obscuring his perception of what was going on about him. Gradually, in moments away from the throng of eager relatives, perhaps in quiet side conversations with an aunt or uncle, he was able to penetrate the fog.

He learnt that this clan was, in fact, part of the Ash Shield clan of the eastern part of Taur'en. Thus "Trueaxe" was not her clan name, but rather an epithet; not unusual amongst dwarves, though most chose to use the name of their clan.

A bit more disturbing, however, was how they addressed his companion. Nobody called her "Argali"; she was Deonna, [POST=710092]Deonna Ashshield[/POST].
