Remove Pixies as Familiars

We would see how popular pixies as familiars really are if they had no levels of Rogue.

Probably not. I don't remember if the pixie is usually that roguish in the classic D&D, but I'm pretty sure that was the Bioware way of handing a tool to the mages so they could disable traps and doors and search for hidden thing in the sp game.

Because the whole topic of familiars keeps coming up, it's worth reminding people that familiars and their progressions are pretty much hard-coded into NWN in their current forms.  While it is possible to adjust familiars, there is no "in-place" option.  Making any changes to pixies would require that we re-make the pixie familiar and all 40 levels of their possible progression, which is, in effect, 40 new creatures plus whatever skin and attribute items they might have.

Or to put it another way, it's a huge effort for what can be solved by encouraging a behavioral shift by those who have pixie familiars.

*whistle innocent* and I'm sure the rangers in the party cheer when ever the raven is used as a scout? the point being, regardless of familiar it will have a use that step on some class, so maybe the answer should be.... common sense on the mages part?

Personally my mage never summons his familiar and has stopped casting spells too as this is only emulating the rogue ability to cast scrolls and use mage specific magic items and my wizard is only getting in the way
 
 
 So instead he started using a sword   - but only in non magic areas when there are no fighters in the party, If fighters are there he resorts to bandaging people ....
 
 but if a cleric is there he hands out food parcels instead....
 
 unless a food crafter is there, when he shouts encouragement....
 
 unless a bard has already taken that role.....
 
 then he resorts to some seasonal bah humbug......

I say we just let mages keep there pixies. I was apart of Harlas's impromptu quest the other day. We had traps to disarm and no one qualified to do it. So the mage brought out his pixie and dealt with it. The mage did ask if we had someone here to deal with it before he brought out they piixie.

Yeah, I guess it's all a matter of self-control for magic users. Pixies could probably be the last-resort when dealing with a trap or lock. I remember playing a trigger-happy Sorcerer back then, and I casted mass-killing spells in a group that was completely capable of killing the spawns, and it was disrespectful to the Druid in the group that wasted Storms of Vengeance and Stonehold spells. So now, I tend to just buff up and deal minimum amounts of damage with my longsword. Ha!
