*first entry after pages have been torn in an old battered book with burnmarks on the edges*

Shortly after having arrived at Hlint I discove it was not only in my home region that the lizardmen have grown stronger. Here in Hlint the Captain of the guard have said he would pay a reward if I come show him the chieftains head of a nearby tribe of lizardmen. Even if he didn't pay I would still seek out the tribe...

Is there some connection or has all evil grown as much in strenght as the lizardmen?

After having spent some time in Hlint getting to know the surroundings, I've have heard disturbing rumors about the demise of my family. Rumor says that Giants were involved in the raid somehow. But how come I only saw lizardmen then? Giants are hard to overlook.
*scribbled in margin* must look into this matter and find where the rumor comes from!!
On the bright Side I have meet some friendly and very helpfulll people. And even helpfull dwarves with else but gold and gems on their mind. Like Gulnyr for example, thought he can be hard to understand sometimes. Also met a lady Alanya or something, high spirit in spite of her cold, but a TERRIBLE singing voice.
*printed in small at the bottom* I felled my first Giant today, felt really good, especially after the rumor I just heard...

I have now met persons, of many of the races that are said to be evil. How come there in these times of evil growing, also seems to be an increase of people choosing other then their kinsmen? Or is it just me that has become more aware of those that are among us? It would be easier if all tieflings, drows and half-giants were evil. Then one vould avoid them or kill them on sight, maybe they are just being nice to infiltrate us...
Had a most disturbing experience yesterday, Fort Hope was desserted. There were only the merchants left and they didn't know anything. But the Inn was empty and there was blood on the floor just inside the door. We looked the best we could, but we could not find any clues at to what had happened.
I have now seen people change their form, and maybe it wasn't lizardmen that attacked my home, but instead giants disguised. It would explain how the lizars had become so strong as to overtake our home. We had defended them off for years with no real problem, but not that one night... But I don't know if it's even possible to change from giant to lizard, I've only seen people change into animals... but then again, lizardmen ARE animals *last line is scribbled in quivering handwriting*
*drawn a picture of a wolf and in small print beside "Vend"*
Ah, always calms me to think of him...

It sure is a long time since I've had time to write, but many things has happened. One of them is that Vend is no longer my companion. The travelling life with all its danger got too much for him. So instead I now have a Brown Bear named Nimp. He is young and can heal better from the wounds he get from saving my behind.

I still haven't told anyone my real family name, and I don't think I will be doing it anytime soon. After much thinking on the matter, I've come to the conclusion that my family names isn't as respectable as I once thought. Seems my father had dealings with some of the more unpleasent beings around. It definately fits better with the great business he had in such a remote area. Come to think of it I've never seen any of the people he had dealings with. I was content with living my rich life with all the money and women I'd care for.  But that still won't stop me from having my revenge on who ever was behind the attack, even if he did bring some of it on himself.
I don't complain of my life as a ranger, and I believe I live a better life now, but I do sometimes miss the great feasts.

            *pages missing*
I really should learn to only write here when I have my head on straight.
I think it's time I got some help finding out more about who my father had dealings with. And since I have no intention of telling everybody my family name, I must decide who I can trust. I have gotten good friends with Geir Sigurdson, and he a bard. He would be good at getting that kind of information, or at least so I think. He knows a lot of storiers of old, but how much does he know of more recent happenings? Anyway I think I'll ask him one of these days... poeple don't think so much of it when a storyteller asks for information, as they do when a scarred man of the wood like me asks the same questions. This seems like the harder part to do... I've told a lot of people about the raid, and many have said they would help when the time comes to avenge it, but I don't feel as confident they will be as eager to help if they found out Dad had brought it on himself.
