House keys
« on: July 16, 2005, 01:31:00 PM »
I used the key creator chest to create two keys, I went outside, picked up some aloe and returned to the house, when I clicked on the door, I was told that the key was old and it broke, tried again (had three keys on me) and the same thing happened, tried third time and door opened.   So I had the character I am sharing the house with create a key and try, same thing happened to him.  So I destroyed key creator and bought a new one, same thing.  Seems if I have more than one key on me it will break one if I try to enter my house

Other strange thing is that I created a key and so did the other character, I thought only the original could be duplicated.  These are the only two keys to the house, to the best of my knowledge, since I bought the house.

If you have any old keys that are no longer usable it will destroy them, were these valid keys that were getting destroyed? Or did you change the locks?

I just created these keys tried the door and they broke, then changed the key creator, and same thing happens.

I have not changed the locks.

I have experienced a similar situation.  One of the keys that used to work on the house stopped working.  I used the key creator I had made the keys from and made a new one.  When the person tried to use it it told her she was using an old key and broke it.  I was wondering if it has something to do with the ability to change the locks.  I have not changed the locks to the house.  Should I buy a new key creator?  Maybe I should change the locks and make all new keys?  Let me know if you find out what's going on.  Thanks.

You just have to make certain you have no old keys left on you after a lock change, if you do then it breaks the new one as well and you have to change the locks again. Before you open the door try throwing away all keys except the one that works.  Then the key shouldnt break, or so I have found.

*wonders how he managed to spell so badly the first time*

So if I change the locks should I destroy all the keys to the house before I change the locks?  Will it give me a new key when I change the locks or does it modify my existing key?  Thanks for the info.

Ok you change the locks and it breaks the old key and gives you a new one. Make sure you throw away the old key before you use the new one. I think it tries the old one first and then breaks all keys to the house you have. Just make sure after you change the locks, before you try to open your door again you throw away all the broken keys you have.

I dont think any of the people reporting this had changed their locks at all.  They just had trouble with their keys thinking that the locks had been changed.  Thats how I'm reading it at least.
