Thought I might start writing a journal of the goings on around Hlint and other areas I visit from this point on.  Tomir Gasternaff...

I first arrived in the area around Hlint after I left the training of my first master several months ago.  I used to think that the only thing that mattered in my life was my blade strapped to my back and establishing myself as the world's best warrior.  I didn't think allegiances mattered, didn't think helping people would matter, and I didn't think that I could be a part of something larger.

First person I met when I arrived in Hlint was a military man can't for the life of me remember his name now and I'm too embarassed to ask.  He asked that I bring him some ears from some goblins that had been hanging around outside the town causing trouble.  It didn't take me long to find them they were quite difficult to defeat at first.  When I had collect several sets of ears I felt a sense of accomplishment and said to myself this is what I was born to do.  Some people kill in defense but I felt like not only could I help a cause (a cause that I have never had in my life) but also hone my skills in the process.

joined a group of adventures one day late in the afternoon on a trip to a local mining cave which come to find out was inhabited by several kobolds and other evil beings.  They asked me to follow them and help to defend the group against attacks.  In the process I was able to procure a necklace that some bard had lost.  I enjoyed the thrill of battle with the kobolds but enjoyed more so the battle when it included other men and woman at my side in the fray.  It felt like mercenary work but it was still exciting.

Several days later I met a man I think was a dwarf while I was looking to upgrade my weapons.  He hangs out among several merchant caravans.  I thought maybe he would be selling equipment to adventurers.  He approached me about the problems all of the merchants in the area were having.  Apparently they have been attacked of recent by a group of goblins inhabiting a cave outside the gates of Hlint.  As proof of my accomplishment he wanted me to return to him with the head of their leader.  As usual I looked at the situation as a great opportunity to hone my skills as a warrior.  I had no idea that this task would take so much time and require me to seek help.  I met a magic user named Tha'Azail (who I would adventure with many times in the future) who was already adventuring in these caves and offered to help me on my perilous quest.  He blazed his way through the goblins, burning them up with spells the likes of which I have never seen.  Come to find out at a later date Tha'Azail was a cleric of some renown and this magic interested me.  I have no experience with magic of any kind but wondered if I could be capable of performing these incredible feats.  I have no intention of ever laying down my sword but wondered who might be able to teach me about magic.

Since I started writing this journal after I had been adventuring around Hlint for some time I will probably not have any of my notes or thoughts in chrnological order but it really doesn't matter since I'm the only one reading from the thing.  Last month I read a note in Hlint posted in the bar that requested the help of warriors and magic users to enlist in a mercenary army formed by a gentleman name Cole.  I throught what the heck I might as well put my skills to the test and earn some money at the same time.  The first meeting Cole tested our skills by having us lead a small group of people in defeating and collecting some loot from a group of ogres near the Zainge river outside of Fort Llast.  I did suprisingly well in leading a few troops and collected the money but also got hurt pretty bad.  We all got hurt for that matter, but the job got done.  I was given the title line leader by Cole and was asked to meet the next month in further training.  Mercenary work could be good and Cole gave us some homework.  We were to collect Platinum for him whenever we could.  I also learned that my skills were not nearly as complete as I once thought.  During the training Cole had to help us with the Ogres several times.  He flung his enchanted sword and left piles of Ogres in his wake.  I desperatly wanted to feel like I would one day be as powerful as he was.  Again I learned that spell casting was important in my pursuit of being a great warrior.  Not only could Cole fling magic but he was also devestating with his weapon.  I was envious.

Last night I tried to help a little girl in Krandor with finding her grandfather's ashes that she lost in the crypt.  I thought hey skeletons and zombies can't be all that bad for a warrior of my renown and courage.  I thought wrong.  I got past a couple pretty difficult ghouls that didn't pose too much of a problem.  I moved through the crypt and came to a barred door with a heavy lock.  I just whacked it a couple of times with my sword and it fell to the ground.  I saw a stairs near the door and moved down it towards a long hallway.  At this hallway I got surrounded by four ghouls and it took some digging down to vanquish them.  After I dispatched the ghouls I took several hours and applied not a few bandages and took some potions of healing I had earlier bought in Fort Llast.  After I felt better I moved on and came to another door.  At this point I should have turned tail and ran but my pride took over and I tried to stand toe to toe with about seven or eight ghouls and a rather strong skeleton with fire burning his hands.  I quickly got surrounded and fell.

After I woke up in Hlint I was met up with some friends namely Tha'Azail, Owen, Lao, & Kaizer.  The first attempt we made to retrieve my grave from the crypt left our party with some more casualties but we finally made it out with the power fo Kaizer and the magic of Owen and Tha.  Again I came upon the magical side of the races of our world.  I continue to be impressed with the ability of some to draw upon this power and I wanted to ask them how I could learn this ability.
