Help with stories for The Dragon's Whisper
« on: July 07, 2006, 04:57:00 AM »
This is a plea for help getting stories about major quests for The Dragon's Whisper. I see many, many great world quest writeups in player's char dev threads. I've posted enough requests or made them personally that it would be natural for most PCs to know that Bumblebee always seeks stories. If you have taken part in a world altering quest and write something in your char dev thread, please consider PMing me with a cut&paste of a section of it. I would OOCly greatly appreciate it. Too many stories of the lands are not shared widely, in my opinion.

I'll edit Ozy's tale of Blood's defeat and Pyyran's of Pranzis, and get it sent, either tonight or tomorrow. Logs are really helpful.

Haven't all three finale quests been covered in it?

Maybe, but I figure it can't hurt.

((OOC  I'd like to get more stories of current tales.  I have hope that the future Layonara's lore will have mention of current PCs and their heroic or infamous deeds.  This is your chance to have your PC's actions be recorded for history!

What I would like:  Written stories of no more than 10k characters (the size of a bird message).  They can range from a few sentences to many paragraphs.  They should all include the names of PCs and month and year the events took place.

Here is a made up example:

It was late autumn in the year 1401 when the heroic actions of Pelegrino proved his skill as an undead slayer.  Over the course of several days, a multitude of warriors had entered and fallen within the confines of Krandor's crypt.  The area was littered with scorched stones of the Soul Mother.  Pelegrino, seeing the faded adventurers discussing their fate in Hlint, offered to single-handedly return them all to their stones.  By morning all 17 souls had been returned to their owners.  It is said that for the first time in remembrance the entirety of the crypts lay still and quiet, the souls at rest.  Pelegrino's name will long be recalled as the leaves change to brilliant colors every autumn.

Doesn't have to be a GM quest for it to be considered worthy of remembering.  Many of our adventures feel routine; write about the ones that make a special impact upon you and your party.

Deliver your stories to me either by bird message, written ingame parchment, or PM here on the forums.  I'll do my best to include as many as I can in the newsletter, but I do reserve the right to ICly question the tale.  I might also edit it slightly to better fit the parchment, though I won't alter the story itself.

Bumpity-bump *SPLAT*
That was the sound of a rotten pumpkin rolling from the roof of the bank in Hlint. Where the *SPLAT* took place depends on your reflex save vs. DC35. Now, you can lower that DC significantly by submitting a story to The Dragon's Whisper. Good luck!

Here is an example of a CDT entry that I truly believe should be marked down in the annals of history (ie The Dragon's Whisper).

Someday that PC may be epic or a WL. Think how fun it would be to go to the Great Library many months from now, pick up a back issue of The Dragon's Whisper, and see that little tale.

There.  I submitted a veracity-challenged story to the Dragon's Whisper.  Its a somewhat accurate version of what actually happened.  If it meets with your approval, let me know, and I'll continue with the ongoing adventures of Gunther N'diknik, adventurer extraordinaire (and his minions, many of which I hope dont read the Dragon's Whisper).

I am clearing the cobwebs from Bumblebee's tiny cranium and soon the birds will fill the skies again. However, unless you wish to receive blank pieces of parchment, I'm going to need some tales of heroics and lore, present and past.
Have a fallen comrade you wish immortalized on the pages of The Dragon's Whisper?
Have a GM/CDQ/WLDQ you want to write a few paragraphs about?
Looking to spread word about your future WL PC's deeds and goals?
Are you a bard or storyteller and wish to share a song's lyrics?
Send them in: Forum PM, LORE letter, ingame parchment.
I will be relying more heavily on submitted material, rather than interviews. However, if you are OOCly interested and have a PC that interviewing others for their stories makes sense for, please do so. I would welcome the help.
Current subscribers can look forward to an "I'm back" issue in the coming days.
  Release the birds!

Alright, it's time to stop making excuses and do a little bit of typing.  Me?  No, I mean you!

Top three excuses for not sending anything for inclusion in the ingame version of The Dragon's Whisper:
1. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
Lame!  Yes, I'm sure your PC is on some uber secret GM quest to save the world.  I'm sure if you told all the other PCs ingame about it, it would surely fail and we'd all die. *yawns*  How about writing up a couple short paragraphs about the quest and saying, "((OOC this note arrives for Bumblebee on June 1st."

You know what?  Lots of us don't go on these world shaping quests.  Here's your chance to be a hero and tell us all about your great deeds.  You're not getting my vote for WL until I see some proof!
2. I'm a horrible writer.
A good excuse.  Writing can be intimidating. I can help, though!  Just pretend that we're ingame and Bumblebee is asking you questions like in an interview.  Send that "log" file to me and I can easily convert it to a story starring.... you!
3. I don't have time.
That may well be the case.  I too don't have time to meet each and everyone of you ingame.  I would love to do that, but it's not possible.  Think of this as a public CDT.  In fact, if you just drop me a PM with an entry in your CDT that I can pretend to have heard ICly, that would work too.
4. Well, why don't you just ask for the stories?
This is a favorite comeback by many of you.  I know you have good intentions and think this is a way of being helpful:  It's not.  I cannot possibly know OOCly what questions to ask.  Help me, I beg you.

I am unable to attend any plot quests (or largely any other quests either).  I do not know the stories behind players, events, areas, etc. to ask about.
5. Who cares?
You'd be surprised.  Wait until you read about yourself ingame!  Imagine reading about a perm'ed PC of yours three months from now.  Think about adding your name to the permanent history of Layonara.

Seriously, who's going to remember you OOCly or ICly if you don't share your stories?

PM me here on the forums with a few paragraphs of a tale you'd like remembered and retold.  You're either part of this world, or playing a multiplayer game alone.

Church leaders!!

I am looking for some motivated clergy RPers to step up and be the voice of your deity's church.  Each issue of The Dragon's Whisper ingame newsletter will have a section devoted to church news.  Example news:
 • Joe "Mighty Wind" Harris was promoted to First Chair Flutist in the Prunilla marching band.
 • The next pilgrimage to Vorax' temple will be in Oclar 1417.
You church clergy, time to step up and do some preaching.
