    Question about NWN2 and Layo
    « on: July 12, 2006, 03:14:54 PM »
I've been keeping an eye on the other thread regarding characters and the switch to nwn2 when the time comes. With all that in mind, I have been wondering if Leanthar or any of the rest of the team  have any plans of what the new campaign will be about. From the other thread I've gathered that it will be set some amount of time into the future from the current Layo, but that's about all I've seen. Perhaps there's an overview somewhere that's similar to the history in the current Layo handbook?
Here's the main list of things I've been curious about:
    * Are the deities still the dragons [I would assume yes]
    * Will there be some threat to the world [like Blood or the dragon wars] immediately upon the server's beginning?
    * Will there be political organizations [city/world councils, etc] that PCs can have a part in that can shape the world even more?
    * Will the character and PrC submission process change at all?

I know that the estimated switch is still about 6 months away, but I thought something might at least be in the works plot wise :) If nothing has been planned so far, would the Team be open to suggestions? I would be ok with this thread being turned into a suggestion thread if they are.

    Pejsaboy,

I can tell you that the GMs, Build Team, and Design Teams are working on implementing as many of the systems of Layonara 1 as they can into Layonara 2.  This being said at this time we can not confirm really too much.  The reason behind this is that we do not know what the limitations impossed by NWN2 will be.  Rest assured that L has some great ideas in store for Layo 2.  So well thought updates, fuctions and features are all in the Layo 2 future.

    1)  Only a few of the deities have ever been dragons.  There are still other dieties that are not dragons.
    2)  I would guess that it will take sometime to develop the main villian plot line into the world.  Just my thoughts though.  It will take time to get all the balancing and issues out and I doubt L will be too hasty in getting the plot rolling.
    3) Layo 1 has political organizations that PCs participate in ... you can be rest assured that L has thought of this and has some special surprises in store.
    4)  This question I have no knowledge of.

As with all aspects of Layonara, the GMs are very open to suggestions ... most of the updates are driven by player inputs and suggestions that the team turns into a reality.

That was quick, thanks Aragon! After some more thinking on the suggestions part, I wonder if they would be better suited in the community submission forum as opposed to [this or another] thread in General Discussion?

What Aragon said is pretty much right on the money. To add just a bit to his answers....
As a general statement, we have not yet fully decided whether we will convert to NWN2. The key issues are primarily technical in nature and likely won't be decided/resolved until the game has been released.
Also, in terms of gameplay issues, what will or will not be in the game is mostly still up-in-the-air at this point. So anything I or any other GM says here can easily be changed at any time, and should not be taken as fact yet.
        1) Not all gods are dragons, not all dragons are gods. Unless something really funky happens, the gods of today should be around if and when we convert.
        2) Of course! And gee...why limit ourselves to just one villain? *evil GM grin*
        3) Yep, yep, and yep.
        4) The submission process is one of those things that's kind of dependent on what we can do with NWN2, what we want to change, etc.... What we are planning on doing, however, is re-balancing EVERYTHING (classes, magic, items, etc.) through all 40 character levels, even though only 20 will be initially available due to NWN2 limits. We want to plan ahead this time rather than try to shoehorn a higher level game into a structure that wasn't designed for it...and we want to make sure that everything scales appropriately instead of our rather patchwork, piecewise retrofits that we have today.
But the short answer to #4 is...we just don't yet know.
As for suggestions....they're always welcome, but as I said above, it's all very difficult to decide on or plan for until the game is actually released and we know what we're dealing with.

Very good points Dorganath. I guess I'll just start keeping a notepad file with suggestions that I think of, and wait to suggest them until things have been figured out a bit better.
as far as your 2) goes, I think you should most certainly NOT limit yourselves to one villain. Perhaps only one super powerful villain, but other villains [both in connection with the one and not] would be a good idea as far as I'm concerned.
But then again, I'm the guy that would get a kick out of randomly dropping a dracolich in the middle of town just to see PCs run for their lives *Bellowing evil laugh of doom*
hmmm, it's a good thing I'll never get a character appropriately powerful enough and properly aligned to do that with....

Maybe :) But the question is, will you, the players, know who it is/they are, or not find out until later *evil grin*
But rest assured, it's in the works.
