since we now have the wooden shields and silk items that helps with armor and such did we ever figure out about the armor helm I and II

did we find a way to have them out of chitin or some other natural combination so it doesnt conflict with the druid oaths

Why? Druids can cast a better form of Barkskin. If you totally need the extra AC that the Helm of Armor gives, you should consider playing a fighter.

yes but since it took this long to get shields and such taking away quest items kind of makes just two more that druids just wont do

and it isnt about barkskin persay
yes our barkskin does last longer and is stronger but it does help when you can have something like it to give that boost when your having to play cleric and need your spell slots for all the healing you can get

I think a simple solution is to just make the "helm" look like a cloth hood. Just because it says "Helm of Armor" does not mean it has to be made of metal, does it?

Is someone going to come up and accuse you of wearing a metal helmet when what you have is a cloth hood?

No, that is not a solution. It is still a helm from an armory, not a flimsy little druid hood. This is akin to a cleric of Lucinda turning their full plate's appearance into a cloth robe and claiming to stick to the dogma.

Well, they do have a VERY nice form of Barkskin that lasts longer than the Helm one well before the level most of the druids on the server are at (level 5 is when they're equal in duration, I believe). The Mage Armor's just a fallback...

Acctually a druids barkskin is equivalent to the helmet of armor at level 3.

Are there any open-face helm designs suitable for a ranger? Aesthetically speaking... I'm pretty sure there aren't any in the original NWN content...

If other classes can get a helm that gives a spell or two from caster classes (ie barkskin and mage armour) how would fighters and such feel if we got helm that gave us weapon specialisation and weapon focus?  The way I see it that helm cheapens druids at low level.  Bark skin is a very important spell for druids especially at low levels and seeing all other classes wander around with bark skin up while I had use one of my few level 2 slots for it seems very unfair.

I really rather hate the barkskin helm. I rp my character as being completely offended by it and refusing to cast protections on anyone that uses it as a metal helm casting a nature spell is an affront to her abilities in her opinion.

Healer's Hug, Athus' Gloves... They are really unfair to all clerics present! And this is not mentioning UMD! Oh, dear! That's the unfairest of all! Giving rogues/bards the ability to use SCROLLS! That's just plain insane! And giving them the ability to use RAISE DEAD scrolls!

It doesn't work this way.

In a low magic world with almost a completely lack of AC items (and other fighting improving items), it's really hard for fighters. Compared to some other classes, like, clerics, they are pretty weak in the beginning, the middle and only sometimes catches up in the end. Barkskin from the helmet is in my opinion a little bit too much, as it renders all natural AC items useless, but that's mainly because of the very long duration.  Heh, I don't see the problem with the mage armor in the helmet. Actually, I very seldom see people use it at all, just due to the short duration.

Actually I agree... but I won't get into that as you were obviously being sarcastic.

We pay for each potion we use, we pay for each scroll we use, and have to go through great lengths to create them.  To get the helm all we have to do is gather a few weapons from the -same- town or a neighbour, then there we go a very useful helm... for ever.. you cant even accidently drop it even if you wanted to.  Thats essentially having 2 barkskin and 2 mage armour potions on you every time you rest!!

So yea... sorry your comparison doesnt work nyah!

Hehe, yes... My post was overflowed with sarcasm and it's still valid for, say, the amulet/ring of bless (you go and collect a few things, make it through the CNR system and voilá, you got an item able to cast bless once per rest!). You have the amulet/ring of shield too!

And... Healer's Hug, Athus' Gloves and so on aren't considered high level drops and actually something a mid level character easily can get from either picking it up as loot or simply buying them!

As long as these items only give the same effect as a low level version of the spells, I'm fine with them. I've hardly ever seen anyone using the mage armor bit of the helmet as it's use is very limited later (only +1 dodge, because the other AC bonuses aren't stacking, for a single battle).

Lastly, as I mentioned before... I wouldn't mind the duration of the barkskin spell getting shortened, though. Making it turn/level like for most other spells of this type. In that case, I believe we will see a sudden decrease in helmet-barkskin usage.

Personally (and this is my opinion as a player of a druid) I'm not sure why a druid would wear a helmet of any kind, chitinous or otherwise. No druid character of mine, PnP or NWN has ever worn a helmet. I just can't see the justification to do so, and I can think of plenty of reasons not to, regardless of materials.
  You guys are talking about mechanical things like spell slots and equipment slots and such. To me, these seem incredibly OOC issues.
  This perspective, incidentally, has nothing to do with why such things don't exist in-game. That has more to do with the time it would take to set that up (new NPC quest, etc.).
  Personally, I'd rather see some other kind of item besides a helm, but then I'm of the mind that even an item is fairly pointless in this role.

I truly wish there were a way to make headbands actually headbands. As it is, they're helms like the rest.

That might help with a few problems that are being faced.
