Dual horse back riding
« on: January 03, 2007, 01:22:11 PM »
I was speaking to a fwe people in game and most of us had the same wishes so Im posting asmuch for them as for me.
How much more difucult would it be to have someone hitch a ride horse. Meaning having two person ride the same horse at the same time. I think. we thought that this could be a little fun for rping taking rides with other people.

I'd love to see this happen.... but I can imagine it is a tough nut to crack!

Almost impossible, really.
At least with our horse system and another horse system I'm aware of.
Our horses actually change the phenotype of the rider to appear mounted on a horse. When mounted, the horse and rider are a single object. If attacked, the combination uses the rider's AC, the rider's HPs and so forth. In other words, you're not riding a horse, you're running around looking like you're on a horse, from a mechanical standpoint. Only when dismounted are the horse and rider actually two separate creatures.
Hitching a ride would require somehow having another set of phenotypes for dual-ridership, some way to completely disable the passenger during the ride and so forth. Quite honestly, we have enough problems with the current system. Adding another layer of complexity on top of it would be ugly.

Perhaps a way to add the old "follow" command, that would only apply to the horse and rider, and then change the phenotype of the follower to a sitting one? Or a carriage or something?

There are known exploits with the follow command, sadly.

From what I've heard, it has been in-game before, but later removed due to the messyness to follow hasted and/or monk people. :)

Yeah we removed the "Follow" feature from the Emote wands because people were "drafting" behind monks, so that everyone would get the benefit of monk speed. Since horses allow faster travel, the same would hold true here as well. It's just too abusable, sadly.
