yeah I've just started playing that a few hours, when I need a little break from the layoness. Don't have the expansion though and my poor card is having a rough time.

This mod might help improve your FPS in Oblivion.  It reduces the grass meshes from 20 triangles to 8.  Even my beast machine gets choppy when an area's too grassy from time to time, and I can't really tell the difference between looking between the two styles.

There's also another mod somewhere that increases the quality of the grass meshes, which I'll download about 4 years from now when 16-Core Terrahertz machines with 50gb VRAM become available. ;)

Yep, reason I've not been around besides the unsocialable times I work - GTA IV, and Rainbow Six Las Vegas 2 (which took over from CoD4).

Call of Duty 4 had awesome graphics and gameplay, but I HATE the ally AI with a passion.  My idiot teammates in the solo campaign keep leaping out in front of me when I'm shooting, or lobbing grenades at my head.  They also could have managed respawn points a bit better.  I keep dying, then the mission restarts, and literally as soon as the screen begins to show where I am, a rocket blasts me in the head and I flatline again.  So then repeat 3-4 more times, load up, die, reload, and finally I manage to sprint to cover right away.  And then my AI teammate lobs a grenade in my foxhole.

gah.  Only fun if it's multiplayer.

Oh, I have Battlefiedl 1942 as well, I used to love Forgotten Hope on it, perhaps I will buy the BF2 and install FH on to it too, now that it seems to be out (finally)

I just beat STALKER. I recommend it to anyone who likes shooting Russian people, and self-hating Soviets.

GLaD OS is the creepiest villain since... Ever.

Ever play System Shock or System Shock II?  SHODAN was waaaay creepier than GLaDOS.

Even creepier than the weird dead little girl who got turned into a sinister AI in Resident Evil?  I wanted to put a slug in her mainframe so bad near the end... all those sinister traps and taunting.

One of my favorite villains was Jon Irenicus from Baldur's Gate II.  You never knew what was up with him; he was either taunting you all flat-voiced like Hannibal Lecter or snapping and flying into manic rages.  Then he just lets himself be put into the mage's asylum and takes the whole place over.  That guy was classic, 10x better than Sarevok.

Another end boss I liked was the one from Tomb Raider.  I don't remember much about her since it was a long time ago, but I remember a long fight and finally defeating her (and the relief I felt that it was over), just to have her pop up a minute or two later (which freaked me out), and a running battle to defeat her while getting out of the collapsing dungeon.

      TombRaider! What a classic!

I dont even remember the end bad boss... but I remember climbing up the cliffs near an underground pyramid... and nearly er... pooping my pants when a flying mummy came diving at me. Classic!

If we're poking at the classics... can we all have a moments silence for Final Fantasy VI.

So, Portal's main campaign was both terrifyingly creepy and disappointingly short. But that's why they made challenge and bonus levels!

Have to say Portal made me laugh from start to fnish because of the humour, the ending song topped it all off.

On that note Orange Box possibly the best valued game  - includes:

      Half life 2 - Episidodes 1 + 2
Team Fortress 2 (was an addict for a while - have to play it every now and then)
      Portal

(I'd advise it on the PC rather than the xbox though! ,portal with a controllor is not easy).

@ Lord Cove - Played VII and VIII, didn't really get into any others.

NWN2 mostly. Still waiting by the benches for layo version 2.

For the latter I recommend entering a google search of "Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines unofficial patch". That ought to fix a bunchload of the nasty bugs that Troika had to leave to the game. It's a big download, and you just got to patch the game to Troika's last patch, and then unpack the large file to the install directory, and voila :)

Thanks! You just saved me from getting some major bug-related headaches! I'm tempted to start playing again now :)

Oh! Fun game, but Secret of Mana 3 just tops it over by a million-fold. I use to play it all the time in high school with a friend since Ragnarok Online was blocked on the net. =/ It was a great way to pass the time when the teacher would drown the classroom in noise.

          *edit*
Forgot to mention Clive Barker's Jericho. Didn't have too much going for it so I tossed it away after a short time. Anyone out there have a good horror game to recommend?

There was another Clive Barker's horror game, situated to somewhere around 1850 and into a mansion, pretty cool. Ghosts, some creepy scitterish monsters and a creepy atmosphere, I loved the game! It's a shoot-em-up, of horror.

Horror/Suspense games are usually the biggest hit-or-miss category out there.

I played Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth, and it was certainly creepy.  Very difficult though, they make you run from almost everything, including the townsfolk cultists.  It certainly has a suspense feel to it.  Didn't get too far in it because I reformatted and had to give the guy back his DVD, but the graphics were very good, and it had me freaking out in some areas.

Also played that Indigo Prophecy game, but wound up hating it because most of the gameplay was based on randome Simon-like button mashing sequences.  Now whenever I look at the game sitting thee collecting dust, I feel rage for having spent 40 bucks on it.  Man I hate this game.

For old old oldschool creepy games, I really loved that horror-puzzle game the 7th Guest.  It was one of the first games to ever use cd and video actors for PC.  You'd go from room to room getting taunted by ghosts and solving geometric and chess-based puzzles in order to unearth the truth about the mansions demonic owner Stauff.

Then there was the first Alone in the Dark, which was pretty much the forefather of the Resident Evil game format.  Run around, solve puzzles, find guns and ammo, slay zombies.  There were then a series of really crappy sequels after that, though the latest one in the works looks good, and back to the basics...  YouTube - Alone In The Dark Trailer Tralier 5-13-08  Should be coming in June, I'll likely pick up a copy.

Another good oldie was Sanitarium, where you play a patient with head trauma who is locked up in a hellish experimental facility.  He keeps having visions and slipping into alternate realities as different people as part of his psychosis, and the characters he meets are truly disturbing.  There are deranged mutant children running amok in one town, evil insect armies eating centaur children in another, aliens, Quetzecoatl... just a very messed up storyline all around.  Definitly pick it up if you see it in a value bin or used somewhere and you like the old click-and-explore style of the Sierra-Quest series.

I haven't bought this one yet, but I might get it soon... Condemned: Criminal Origins.  IGN gave it an 8.5 and the readers gave it an 8.7 on the review page IGN: Condemned: Criminal Origins which is pretty high for a suspense game rating.  Next paycheck I'll check it out.

And I think the Clive Barker game mentioned above was Clive Barker's: Undying.  I played it a bit, it was ok.  I didn't stick with it though because Half-Life's engine spoiled me for FPS graphics.

If you really like the Resident Evil style of suspense game, Silent Hill series was pretty good too.  I only played one of them, not certain which one, but it started off in a deserted carnival with lurking mutants and dead guys in mascot bunny suits everywhere.

Right now I'm replaying my old copy of Black & White 2.  Not a horror game, unless you take how I treat my worshippers into consideration!  *picks up a child and flings him over a mountain, then sets everybody's house on fire and lets loose the creature!*  ;)

Being the creative kinda guy who also enjoys galactic conquest, I was thinking Spore looked promising.  I mean, who can resist evolving an entire race from a single-celled organism into the scourge of the universe?  Of course, you can also go the other route and make your race the nice-guys of the universe too I suppose, but that doesn't seem as much fun.
