*sealed with the sign of an ankh*

Daniella,

I cannot answer for what Beacon Dubois's motives are, nor will I speculate. It is the sworn duty of any member of the Shining Hand to act with impartial judgement in accordance with the Good Law and save vengeance for the obliteration of the undead. A Toranite is forbidden to take the life of a living unless it is in defense of self or others. Only then can it be justified.

However, you must be aware that if it was Anne Ravenwind that had slayed both Beacon Wainright and that poor girl, then despite the resurrection, it is not the All Watching that leads her. It is herself and soon it will be entirely that of the dark lord if she is not careful. Good intentions are exploited by the wicked and the pride in oneself can be the tool they use to carry these exploits out.

Do not assume she will accept your hope in her and that you both will return back to the temple together. I'm sure you're quite aware of this fact and I say this not to criticize you. I find a heart of yours so rare to come by and I would pray that your mentor returns to you. But you must trust me that if you truly wish to serve Toran and she, then you must place that emotion in the right place. Allow first your mind to guide you. One does not arise overnight to become a dread priestess. There are only two ways that can happen. One is that she has achieved this path through considerably selfish and violent sacrifice to appease only one master - a master that can see the heart as well as any god. The other way is that she is trapped and being used as a pawn. If the latter is true, you will have justification to confront Beacon Dubois for a change in his course of action. I personally would not condone the assualt knowing only what you stated in your letter to me, yet there is no one more than I that wishes to see the Corathanite order cleansed from this world.

And so my advice to you, dear girl, is to show great inward strength. Accept the fact that your friend may have been corrupted and be prepared to do what is necessary if such is the case. This may not be what you wished to hear. She may be just a pawn in which case there is still some time to save her from the dark and bring her back to the Church. She will still be held accountable, but if such is the case, and you can prove her service to him and that she was not responsible for these crimes, then you act as He would act, and you defend her.

But always remember - the dark is not silent, nor is it unguided.

May Toran protect you.

Dear Mother and Father,

It's been some time since I've written, I know, and I deeply apologize for that.  I want to assure you that both Jacob and Samuel have arrived safely, and are getting acquainted to the land and their skills have improved even since they have gotten here.

There have been many rumors about the attack that is coming toward Mistone that we are hoping to defend against.  I will not write them here because there is no need.  I'm certain that the Citadel has also learned of these rumors, and therefore the both of you already know as well.

Mother, please do not worry too much for us.  Toran is with us and we will do what we can, what is right.  As we all have done in the past and will continue to do.  I know that deep down, regardless of your fears you agree with what we are doing.

Father, I don't know if you have also decided to rejoin the ranks of Toran's force again, and I know there is nothing I can do to stop you if you should decide to fight.  To have my family near me in times of war is both wonderful and worrisome at the same time.  You are the greatest paladin I have ever known, and I would be honored to fight beside you.[strike]  But please do not try to stop me from worrying myself, and please do not try to deter me from my duties, as you do not wish me to try to deter you from yours. [/strike]

I would be honored to fight beside you again.

All my love.

In Toran's Light,
Daniella

Dear Mother and Father,

I hope that you are well.  There are some things that I suppose I should have told you, but I have not been able to find the words to explain, nor have I been able to visit.  For this I am truly sorry.

First and foremost, I have been chosen by Toran himself.  I have pledged myself as His Champion.  I apologize for my blunt approach in this, but I know no other way of saying it.  He has blessed me in ways I only ever dreamed possible.  I know my mission, my path is set.  I serve the Will of Toran above all else, as I have always done, but now I am acknowledged by the All Watching.

Second, I have been engaged to a man named Chaynce Baldu'muur, son of a former paladin of Toran Creighton Dallorius.  Father, I don't know if you ever knew him or not.  I didn't know how to tell you about Chaynce because I've been so busy since I first asked him to marry me, and then with being Chosen... it's not as simple as it once seemed to be.  That I love Chaynce I am certain.  But I cannot say that I love him with my whole heart given that Toran is so prevalent in my heart, my thoughts, and my life.  Samuel and Jacob have both met Chaynce since their arrival, and while I'm not certain that I have Samuel's approval, I'm not positive that it matters anymore.  I'm not sure if Chaynce and I will be able to overcome our differences in the very basic matter of our beliefs.  I'm no longer sure that it will work out.

I feel that Chaynce blames Toran for his father leaving both the church and his family.  That was his father's choice.  But I am not sure how to explain to him the deep and overwhelming devotion I have to the All Watching.  I'm not sure he'll ever understand.

I am deeply sorry that I have not come to you with this beforehand, but now you know.  I will attempt to visit soon, but with the war having already started here on Mistone and the search for a bloodwell by the enemy, I know that things will be tied up for some time.  I wish you both well.

My love always,
Dani

Gauntlet Gallant,

I've recently heard about the threats and mising members of the Order.  I would like to help with the investigation into these attacks, and any information you can provide will be helpful.  I am currently staying in Ft. Llast to help aid against the Dragon Cult attacks, however, if you would like to meet me somewhere, please feel free to propose a location.  These attacks must be stopped at all cost.  The Order of the Shining Hand are hunters, not meant to be hunted.  I will do whatever is in my power to help in this.

Champion Stormhaven,

My apologies for the timeliness of this reply, however, many missions have caused me to be away from Huangjin for quite some time.  Your correspondence has been received and will take your generous offer into consideration.

I have great confidence that your other church duties take up a sufficient amount of your time and should not be neglected for a matter being dealt with by the Order of the Undead Hunters.  The Order has operated quite well in it's current state without outside assistance from other sects and missions of the church and we are handling this matter internally with great success.

I may also remind you that your personal interest in the main subject of the investigation, Miss Anne Ravenwind, puts you at a significant disadvantage and compromise which could be used against you in the apprehension and prosecution of the villain.  Feel free to seek updates on the matter from one of my assistants in Huangjin.

Paladins of Toran must follow the Paladin Code, as laid down by Navarre, the First Paladin and the god Toran. If you deviate from the Code at any time, you will no longer be allowed to use your powers as a Paladin.

1. Truth, honor, and loyalty are your highest calling. Never deviate from these principles, even if it should mean your death.
2. Never question Toran, nor his priesthood. Your loyalty to your God will be put to the test in a time of trial. Remain steadfast and loyal during that time and all shall be achieved.
3. Aid those that you can, and neither ask nor expect reward. Your valor and honor will bring glory to Toran's name.
4. Do not suffer evil, hatred, or corruption, for these are the greatest sins of mortals. Battle against these sins and those who commit them, but be mindful that there is no shame in retreat, especially to preserve your life and the lives of other innocents around you.
5. Your word is your bond. Keep your word, even should it bring you to death's gate. The faithful of Toran must honor their word and trust in their valor and their God to aid them in keeping their promises. There is no honor in a vow that calls for the death or dishonor of innocents, and such promises may be freely broken.
6. All life is sacred. Rapine, pillaging, and other crimes of war are strictly forbidden to those in Toran's service. Killing should be an act of last resort. Honor your enemies, regardless of their race, even in defeat.
7. Make no demands of others. A knight of Toran should be proud and self sufficient. There is no shame in accepting offers of help, but A PALADIN IN TORAN'S SERVICE SHOULD NEVER REDUCE HIMSELF TO BEGGARY OR DESPERATE PLEAS.
8. Unless specifically directed by Toran or his priests, DO NOT ENTER ANOTHER GOD'S TEMPLE except in times of extreme duress. Even when desperate, you may only enter temples of gods sympathetic to Toran.
9. Remain virtuous and honorable in all ways. DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANYTHING THAT WOULD REQUIRE YOU TO COMPROMISE YOUR CODE. These are the laws of the Paladin, and THOSE WHO WOULD TREAT THEM LIGHTLY ARE NOT WORTHY OF THE TITLE.

Commander of the Hurix Guard, [insert name here],

How is the rebuilding effort?  I want to ensure that your forces are strong and have been trained and equipped properly in case such a threat should ever arise once again.  If you are in need of men, or if you are in need of training, or anything else, please inform me, and I will see that your needs are met to the best of our abilities even if only to train those that you already have.  Self reliance is important, and I would like to see that Hurix is built to a better structure and spirit than before, reinforced by the good spirits of those who gave their lives to defend it.  I hope that there have been people of our following that have answered the call to come and assist you, but please let me know.

Chaynce,
First of all, I am fine.

I was attacked by an assassin in our home.  By Toran's grace, I was not killed, but the attacker got away while I was unconscious.  I got some rest at the temple, but I have not had a chance to clean up the blood from the floor of our home yet.  I hope you have not arrived home and thought the worst.

I asked two of the paladins to go home after the attack and check to see if the assassin was still anywhere near, but I fear he or she may have used the portal and taken a quick escape.  I asked two more to guard me at the temple so that I could get some sleep.  I will be fine.  It was my own fault for letting my guard down.  I should know better.

I am fine.  Please do not worry too much.  I'll see you when you get home.

Toran,
I have never doubted your presence in my life. You are a constant, my light, and someone that I have never doubted. But Chaynce has lost to you. He's lost his father, and he feels that even though I remain, he has lost a life with me that I know, looking back, that we could never have had. The choice and path to follow you, to serve you to do what is right in this world leaves casualties. I know that, but even still, I know that those sacrifices will be worth it in the end. But I have to ask you... please watch over Chaynce. I'm worried about him. He's so angry with you. I know his ways are foolish and I've explained to him that no matter how many letters he writes to you asking you to have tea with him, you have many more things that are so much bigger than any one individual of us. Deep down, I don't think he truly blames you. I think he feels that somehow he and his mother were not enough, or could not compare to You. I think that his love for me has only made that feeling worse for him. But in spite of that, he has been there for me. I tried. I tried so hard to show him your ways and help him come to terms with my choices and reasons and love for you. The problem is, Chaynce already knows your ways. Even in his odd mannerisms and crudeness at times, he is one of the most dutiful men I know. Loyal to a fault even when it means he puts himself at risk... which often it does. In spite of his anger and hurting of feeling always second to You, he is the most selfless man I have ever known, and a pillar of goodness if there ever was one. I've seen his restlessness lately. He feels his time in this world is coming to an end, and with that I ask you with all my heart to please look after the man that has taken care of me in this life... to look after him in the next. I am not looking forward to his loss, but I feel that I must prepare myself for it. I ask you to take care of him, to take him with you, so that he may know that through it all, he was not lost, he was not shunned, and that his life was lived well. A life of service and honor. If he leaves this world into your care, I know that he will be safe. I ask that if he must go, to please fill my heart and his with your love. Please remind him from time to time that you care for him, and let him know that I have loved him in this life, and I've asked that he go with you until we can meet again.

Lady Commander Stormhaven .

Its by this mean that i greet you and send my best regards wth notices from the front in Nessar,
The city was overrun by infiltrated by Drachs and Myr-Drachs, it seems that they were able to enter thru some tunnels and underwater caves , with help of traitors inside the city , The place is a lawless chaos where everyone is looking for himself, The authority is inexistent.

Haartwarden Argali, had led the effort to put an end to the assesination attempts and I sent you word with ( insert result of the quest here ) .

There is also something that catched my atention and I think the council might find intresting to know, Acording with what the insiders said, It seems that the cult somehow had found the way to turn stonebound people into Drachs, this is indeed worrysome , and would explain the intrest and the rewards on the bindstone kin hunting that we had lived in the past years.

I am on my way back towards Sederra, once the situation is under control here, but i'd most likely return here as soon as the situation in Sederra is under control, Toran's willing .

I am sorry for not being able to tell you this face to face, yet I remember you fondly, and hope things are well on your side, I'd try to make a visit next time i am on Mistone , but as you know duties comes first.

I am doing good, in the field, no progress yet towards what we spoke last time , so nothing to report on that regard ,

Send my regards to my father when you see him please, there are some other news that i'd like to share with you, since you've always cared about me, I am still shocked about that, and since this is the best way i'll be able to speak with you in a while , better tell you now.

I am going to be father , I don't know how to manage that and i've learned that just some weeks ago. Still its just another Toran's test for this humble knight .
May his light shine on your path always .

Dear Tyrian,

I wish that I could be writing to you under better circumstances. I regret to inform you that your son has died. He died a hero, which is fitting for the life that he lived. He came to Hilm Castle to help defend the last stronghold of the Hilm Protectorate under the onslaught of Molvaren's forces and the Green Dragon Cult. He fought bravely, and still with the cheerful disposition he almost always seemed to have about him. Before his final battle, he smiled at me, a smile I will never forget. We fought near each other in the final battle, but due to the overwhelming numbers of our enemies, I lost sight of him.

I know that it won't help, but I want you to know that I loved your son very much. For as long as I've known him he has railed against Toran, complaining to me about him, and always telling me that he simply wanted Toran to have tea with him so that he could understand why his father left, and why I could not marry him. And even still, he lived a life that would be a good example to follow and one that I think even Toran would smile on. He was a man of honor, and a man who always sought to protect those he could even at his own expense. I pray that maybe now he will get the answers that he never seemed to be satisfied with in life because they came from me instead of directly from Him. I hope that he does get to have tea. And I pray that Toran will watch over him, and that he will now be able to see his father again.

I have no body to send home to you, but I have his armor, his sword and shield, and his belongings that he had with him in Hilm as well as his belongings at our home in Trelania that I have not been able to return to yet. If you have any want of any of his things, please feel free to ask. As his mother, you probably have more right to them than I do.

With your blessing, I intend to place a shrine for him alongside the other fallen heroes that have been honored at the Citadel of Toran in Huangjin. He truly was a protector of paladins as he claimed to be. He died doing what it was that he did best. Saving the world.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I know my words probably won't be a comfort to you. I know they aren't much of a comfort to me right now. If you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to ask. Your son was my family.

Sincerely,

*signed*

*Sometime after the war clean up a letter is sent to Revered Knight DeLourney.*

To the Revered Knight DeLourney:

Dear Sir,

I was speaking with Mister Richard Watchman and he informed me of the duty that you placed upon him to be my guard and see to my safety as well as to make it so that I did not have to worry about anything other than the tasks at hand back when I underwent the trials of Rofirein.

I wanted to simply tell you thank you, and to let you know that Mister Watchman apparently still feels the need to make sure that I do not have to travel alone. He says that he feels that our roles are more juxtaposed and that I am more his bodyguard than he is mine, but he has turned into a fine man, and a very talented wizard from the "naive young spellflinger" he said he was when you first gave him this mission. He said also that since you never actually dismissed him from the task, he will continue on until he feels it is no longer necessary.

So once again, I thank you for your thoughtfulness. The gesture touched my heart, truly.

In Toran's Light,

*Signed*

*Several days after Molvaren's army begins to withdraw from around Hilm Castle a letter arrives from the Fort of Last Hope.*

Lady Daniella,

I salute you in your endeavors and thank you for the wisdom and insights you have given me into a number of things. You have made me question all that I have believed in to date and all that I was fighting for. Word has only just started to arrive to myself with orders from Molvaren himself for me to pull my army out of Hilm and return to Kuhl immediately in order to secure the nation against any and all aggressors. I find myself questioning all that I have believed in, the nature of men, the nature of dragons.

I have decided for the time being that my men and those within Kuhl who will begin leaving and joining me here will stay here and hold what remains of the Fort of last Hope after Ractrafiorez destroyed it and all those within it.

Do not think to bring an army against me. My men and women are loyal and we are still great in number. I will consider my options over the coming months but for now Fort of last Hope and its surrounding lands belong to the Siphe Garra, as we are now called.

Yours in Command,
Jaedon Siphe

*Sent to Jaedon Siphe along with the outlines of a truce/non-aggression pact between Allied Forces and the Siphe Garra, and written in her own hand.*

General Siphe,

There are times that we look back on our lives and we realize that we stand at a crossroads. We can continue the way we are going, we can go back to where we came from, or we can choose to go another path entirely. From your letter it seems that you have decided that you cannot continue the path that you have been traveling thus far, and I am relieved to hear as such. I know that the decision that you must make now is one that must be extremely difficult, and I tell you the truth that I do not envy your position and the choice that you must make. I offer you my support, and I offer that there still is a greater good to be sought and fought for, even in times like these when all seems as if the world should not make sense. Even when we have lost so much.

I don't know if you follow any gods, General, but in times like these prayer is my only solace. The god I follow knows the position that you and I have stood in and continue to stand in, in his life He felt the burden of leadership, He felt the pain of loss... and I believe that He is with me now giving me the strength to continue to fight for the people of this world, and to pursue what indeed is a greater good for Layonara even in the face of such overwhelming odds and such wanton destruction and loss of life. There is no way I can recover the lives lost to this war- not of my troops, not of yours. I only can fight so that others will have a future free of the monsters that Molvaren has created.

If you need someone to help smooth out your thoughts, you are welcome to speak with me.

Sincerely,

Daniella Stormhaven

Lady Daniella,

I recognise the position my men and I now find ourselves in. Ours is a precarious one. However make no mistake we will see any attempt to remove us from our location as an act of war and will use all of our significant force to withstand it.

You too are in a difficult position since now what armies you have left must continue to fight to reclaim Kuhl which will not perhaps be as easy as you think, and will leave you vulnerable.

I will make you this offer in respect. We of the Siphe Garra will not attack any allied forces during the time which the war continues for the capture of Kuhl. If we in turn are not attacked. Of that you have my word.

I will consider your words in light of the future I find us facing.

General Siphe,

You have my word that the Allied forces will not attack you, those of the Siphe Garra, where you stand now, and I will hold you to your word that you will do the same. We will not attempt to remove you from your location, however, if you should attempt to expand your holdings further than the lands immediately surrounding the remains of the Fort of Last Hope that will be considered an act of invasion and war. I urge you to not do this.

Those that fight under Molvaren and have chosen not to join your forces do not fall under the same terms. Attacks made upon you by Molvaren and/or his forces are not subject to these terms as they are not sanctioned by Allied forces. These terms are subject to modification and agreements in peace talks pending the outcome of the war and will be able to be discussed with the Hilm Protectorate as well as the Dwarven protectors of the lands you now occupy.

But I ask you to consider fighting with us against Molvaren. Help us gain back what we all have lost. War makes many enemies, General, but sometimes it also makes unlikely allies. It's not too late.

To the Esteemed Father Mithril, Fenrir Thornaxe,

I hope all is well with you in your current endeavors. When last we spoke, we were in the midst of trying to fight and win a war, and while the battle has been won for the time being, there are other battles that are in our future, and I write to you regarding some of those concerns.

As you know, after the fall of the Fort of Last Hope to General Jaedon Siphe, formerly of the Kuhl Drach Garra, General Siphe has defected and taken the lands of what was once the Fort of Last Hope and is rebuilding it, continuing with the mission of the previous stewards of the land to keep out the demons that encroach upon Hilm. He has established a new government under his leadership and has started to rebuild the fort, now called Fiorez City, within what is now considered the Siphe Principality. There is an agreement of protection of some sort between Lord Siphe and the dragon Ractrafiorez, to which I am attempting to discover, but for now it is only known by Lord Siphe and the dragon. I tell you this because I want to be open and honest with you before I go into what it is that I am going to request. I have warned Lord Siphe of the liability that the dragon presents. I believe he knows, but he is doing what he can to see to the safety of his people. In the meantime, he states that the wounds sustained by Ractrafiorez during the battle for Briardusk have made it so that the dragon should be in limited capacity until he heals, which he believes will takes some time.

The Siphe Principality is now recognized as a sovereign state unto itself and I have visited and examined the lands and how it is being run. Siphe is a fair ruler under the sometimes desperate circumstances that with which his people are now often faced. The lands surrounding the fort, however, were ravaged by war, and they are having difficult times both in fighting off the surrounding bandits as well as trying to grow their own food. Due to the tentative nature of the new alliances, trade agreements for supplies and food are difficult.

After consulting with Lord Siphe, he has requested a meeting with you personally. He has heard of your Battle Academy, and in the interest of furthering relations between his own Siphe Principality and the nations of the Alliance against Molvaren. Siphe is a very skilled military leader, as I'm sure you are aware, and his ability to train his men is legendary.

If you would be willing to meet with Lord Siphe and me, we would like to propose a possible sister school to your Battle Academy to be built within the Siphe Principality. This way, in exchange for military training, we can work out a trade agreement for food and supplies until they are able to rebuild, and in return our varied militaries may gain the benefits of working with the Siphe Garra to learn their techniques as well as information and techniques from an insider's view that we may be able to use against Molvaren's armies.

He has expressed his respect for your reputation and has heard reports of the skills of those who have trained at your Academy, and has requested that I contact you on his behalf.

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have, but I do hope that you will consider this request. Lord Siphe is not our enemy any longer, but I would prefer to strengthen an alliance that may prove beneficial for us in the end.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and may Toran's Light be with you and yours.

In His service,

Daniella Stormhaven

Champion of Toran's Divine Will
Lady Commander of Toran's Military Forces.

Kind Champion of Toran,

It is a pleasure to hear from you and to confirm your safety and everpresence at protecting the ways of your deity.

I am aware of the delicate state of realm we are in and have used the rare moment of what seems like peace before another storm to work with and within my academy.

While I know the person of General Siphe, I cannot say that I know him more than that, thus I would reserve my judgment of his actions for another time. As a man of arms as both you and I, he deserves our reverence, but if anything, past events have shown, that what arises from smoking ashes is not always a phoenix of hope, no matter what it may appear to be to the seeing eye.

Therefore I hope for your vigilance and trust that you take care to deal with him with a keen mind and a healthy touch of distrust.

My academy has one great purpose, which is to develop the art of war and release it from its shackles of tradition. It is to be a neutral haven for those wishing to learn and teach, not to be tainted with the disdain of politics or beliefs, unless urgently required and decided by me personally, with the assistance of my closest allies.

If you so wish, I will entertain this call for a meeting, however I promise you nothing, as the matter is delicate for me and as such, I cannot promise you that I will burden my Academy with matters that should not concern it. Please do not take this the wrong way, I will gladly help to work towards aiding the people of the newly-founded state, I just cannot promise you that the Academy can be used as a bargaining chip for treaties.

Please let me know, how you want us to proceed.

Kind Wishes,
Fenrir Thornaxe
