Layo Video
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:02:51 AM »
After reading Ionnarin's post about the recruitment drive and Hellblazer's idea to make video's to post on YouTube, I became inspired. I want to make videos that show off the beauty and awesomeness of Layo. Unfortunately, I have no idea how. Anyone knowledgeable in such things that can get me started?

You'll need a video capture program. There is one but I don't remember the name of it. Silverdraco would be able to tell you the name, he used to use it.

You'll also need a video editing software. Windows movie maker comes freely with your os, it's basic, but it can do the job well. It depends on how complex you want to make the video. I'm sure there is other free ones you could find out there. I just don't know them. Not a video editor myself.

Also a little note. If you do a video, make sure that you play the game with full graphics creature shadows, area enabled shadows and anti-aliasing so that the graphics looks nice. I don't know how your system can handle it with out having a poor frame rate, but if it can, then go for that.

Here is some of the video capture softwares I am talking about. I'm pretty sure that's not the one Silverdraco used, but still

It doesnt have to be a motion video either does it? You can make one off screen shots using Windows Movie Maker, if you dont have the system that can handle taking video and video editing.

A word of caution: please don't make my mistake and use copyrighted music to back your video.  The artist whose work I used associated the video with Layonara, rather than with me, and threatened legal action, which isn't at all the kind of attention we're looking for.

I suggest Jamendo, a Creative Commons-licensed music site - or you can always write your own!

Also, I've had success with Camstudio which is another free screenrecording program.

You can use one of my pieces that is on youtube if you'd like. Or if you're in no hurry, I can always make a new one, when you have done the video editing and I'll try to score the video to music directly.

Awesome.  Thanks everyone.  I think my computer can handle doing the editing so I will probably try and make something original.  Anyone with collaboration ideas, let me know.  If the Team wants to see a certain type of video get made (or not get made), also let me know.  I will probably start with something atmospheric, like an establisher for the Layo world.

If I wanted to get to secluded and/or abnormally dangerous areas, could I arrange the help of a GM to port and supervise the "filming"?

Exciting!!!

I'll help with the GM side of things. I'm available EDT weekday evenings. I'll even help in the collaboration if you like.

May be I'll use it to help advertise a new set of adventures...
