    Right so we've proven you're an idiot... first person to tell me how this next thing works (yes I already know) gets a cookie and a badge that says, "I'm Not an Idiot." Ready? Set! Go!

OK...the math works out in a predictable pattern...and the result is always a multiple of 9 (9,18,27, etc.)

From the top:
99 -> 9+9 = 18 => 99-18 = 81
98 -> 9+8 = 17 => 98-17 = 81
.
.
.
89 -> 8+9 = 17 => 89-17 = 72
88 -> 8+8 = 16 => 88-16 = 72
.
.
.
And so on.

Look through the table and you'll see that all the multiples of 9 have the same symbol.  Each time through, the symbol changes, but the multiples of 9 all have the same symbol.

And how the actual math works...

Let's say X and Y are the two numbers that form the two digit number, X being the tens. X being anything from 1 to 9, and Y being anything from 0 to 9. Z is the result number, the one you look up from the table.

So the math goes like this...

(10X+Y)-(X+Y)=Z

10X+Y-X-Y=Z

9X=Z

So as yoou can see, as X is any number between 1 and 9, Z can only be 9, 18. 27, .... ,81 And all those numbers always have the same symbol, which the stupid mindreading ball then shows.

And I thought it was aligning my retinas point of focus, working out the inter occular distance, converting that through some cartesian translation into a screen position, obtaining the X,Y coordinates, and then using some whizzy javascript finding out which character I was looking at. and Hey ho.. displaying the character I thought of..

Oh well, you live and learn.

    The pattern is not always predictable.
