Front Line Assembly: Implode is my favorite album of all time.  It was right around where they evolved from their old harsh, simple style into wicked breakbeats with heavily distorted NIN-like drum kits.  Coming in a close second is WASP's KFD, a sharp point in history where a former hair-metal band from the 80s suddenly snapped and made the most violent, angry and demented dark metal/industrial album in all history.  Every time I listen to it, my pulse goes through the roof and I fly into a barbarian rage.  I think that makes Blackie Lawless at least an 8th level skald... ;)

Just a quick suggestion. Just heard of this new band called "Family Force 5". They've got a couple music videos "Kountry Gentlemen" and "Love Addict" they're pretty freaking awsome if I do say so myself. If you've got a Yahoo account or some way to check out music video's (or myspace) I suggest you do. Lemme know what ya'll think.

Music eh? (stares at a large dusty section of his wall that is 4' by 6' and packed with CDs).

No one seems to have touched on this one but I really enjoy a lot of classic celtic, tselagi chants, rock, alternative (isn't that the old buzzword for everything that is a mix of something else??).

Group wise:

My top two are:
Dick Dale (and the dale bots)
Gorillaz

And a few more that I like regularly
Smashing pumpkins
Limp bizcuit
korn
Sheryl Crow
Iron Vein (could be wrong here, they have a song called mephisto)
Porno for pyros
ugly kid joe
The sound track from Rocket Jockey (one of my all time favorites)

Nyorsk shouting couruses are also pretty fascinating (it feeds my inner virking :) )

Recent stuff I'm a bit clueless on as I've shyed away from anything on the media, out of pure disgust. And mythtv doesn't fill what I want to watch with a lot of useless trash :)

80's pop. Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Michael Jackson (Before he got *REALLY* weird) Swing music, some country. Mostly music that I can understand the lyrics. I get enough of people shouting at me when I am at work.

I am a music/lyrics nut...raised by my (almost :)) hippie dad on nothing but Sabbath, Rush, Seager, Skynard, Nazareth, and Thin Lizzy (What I'm listening to now as I browse the forums).  If I'm hyper I listen to Killswitch Engage (if I ever started a band, it'd be them), Black Label Society, Iced Earth, more Black Sabbath, a lot of 80's-90's hair band music.

My newest fascination is this *hates labels, but is going to use one anyway* pop-emo-rock.  Fallout Boy being a good one when you're down (Some of the song titles make me laugh so hard though).  Coheed and Cambria is my newest fascination...a good mix of guitar rock, storytelling (a'la Rush), and lyrics that...well, if you ever break up with somebody, Apollo I: The Writing Writer, or it's analogue, The Willing Well III: Apollo I, The Telling Truth, constitute the best break up song ever written (and a pivot point in the story of Coheed and Cambria).

A P.S. to OneST8's Rant:  Metallica should be on this list, but are dropped due to loss of respect, and the fear of lawsuit in case James or Lars should ever hear me playing one of thier songs on one of my guitars (which they probably created also, B.C. Rich should be paying them royalties at this very moment) /Rant

Basically everything except (c)rap and country... and then just the twangy country.. there is a place for Garth Brooks and Shania.

Special places in my heart:
Great Big Sea
Spirit of the West
Beatles
Tchaikovsky
Shostakovich
Bach (A nice complicated 5-handed fugue, particularly)

Yep, reggae rocks, I like some rap... but most of it sucks, I love crazy old music too, like video killed the radio star, and whip it! (devo), and rock, yep and of course the pop-emo-rock, emo people, there are so many layers to them..... *stares off aimlessly into the distance*

and dragonforce!!!!
(they're so cheesy, all their songs are about dragons and quests and journeying, the sad thing is, they're serious, that's why they rock ;))
